We came here for my sister's birthday, who had just moved to Livermore at the time. Wente had great outdoor seating, but the service and wine were subpar. The wine was okay. It seemed like it had been aerated for a while. We bought a bottle, and it didn't match the tasting at all. In terms of service, our wine pourer was really nice, but she went on and on about her family history, not so much about the wine, but about how her nieces and nephews did or did not pursue winemaking. There was limited shade but people had brought their own umbrellas or pop ups. You could bring a blanket or chair and some people had brought balls to play basic lawn games. While Wente is situated on a beautiful property, it was one of the most disappointing wine tasting experiences. Upon arrival, it seemed life staff were more concerned with socializing amongst one another than offering any assistance. After being seated, we waited a long time for anyone to come give us water or explain to us the tasting options. Eventually Paulette came, but she seemed a bit confused with her assigned tables and didn't seem too confident when presenting the wines listed in the different tastings. My husband and I chose the 5-wine tasting flight, and my mom-in-law chose the Nth degree tasting flight (all reds). The only one I enjoyed from our flight was the Sauvignon Blanc. We went to The Grill at Wente and the outdoor seating was beautiful. Our server was friendly and the service was very quick. We shared the dip trio and the favorites were the hummus and artichoke dip. We also got the brussel sprouts and all of my group loved them they said they were the best brussel sprouts they'd ever had. For me I personally prefer more savory brussel sprouts, so they were a bit sweet for me. I got the fish and chips and the fish was well battered and fried, but it needed some lemon on the side and the tartar sauce really elevated the fish. The Valentine's Day wine and chocolate pairing was phenomenal! The light dishes of shrimp, steak, and ribs paired with the perfect Chardonnay, their new version of Rose', and the Cabs were amazing on the pallet. There are two tasting menus and we opted to do both so we could try all 10 offerings. Steve helped us and gave us some background information about the winery and the different wines. I am writing to express the disappointment by our group regarding the Mother's Day event on May 10th. While my family and friends have enjoyed this celebration for years, the recent changes in policy and organization made this year's experience very frustrating. My primary concern was the decision to ban outside water. On a 90-degree day, forcing guests--including young children and pregnant/breastfeeding women--to empty their water bottles upon entry and forcing them to buy $4 bottles seems like a significant public safety issue. If you aren't going to allow outside water, then water stations should be provided throughout the property. Furthermore, the quality of the food and service did not meet expectations. The menu items were poorly executed, leading to extreme wait times and cold food. The transition from supporting the independent food truck community to exclusively using in-house catering was disappointing. Stay in the food lane you are recognized for. This, combined with the addition of more high cost reserved tables, made the event feel less like a family-oriented vibe and more like an upscale sit-down restaurant feel. Finally, the parking situation was a cluster in itself. Having staff direct every car to turn around at the main entrance and enter through an "Exit Only" gate caused unnecessary confusion and delays. I hope you re-think your strategies moving forward. We won't be back under the new guidelines. read more

Went here on a Sunday afternoon. The wines were good but the service was sub-par. We didn't make reservations and we just walked in. We were 4 adults and 3 kids. They seated us in the corner which wasn't our preference but we understood that we didn't make reservations. The hostess told us she has to start the tasting right away as they need the table for their next guest. We were bringing our friends who were visiting from Utah and this was really embarrassing for us as the whole outdoor seating area was empty including the seating near the fire pits. We were just confused because the whole place was empty and we didn't understand the rush. Then they told us one of our tables will be taken away mid way during our tasting because someone has reservations. Again we were just confused because the whole place was empty at the time and even later on, half of the seating area was empty. We felt unwelcome. Not sure if it's because we didn't make reservations or it was because we are a different color or because we brought kids. I attended Wente's annual white party on 5/25/25. The event was from 1-5, guests are encouraged to line up early. I arrived just before noon and there were a handful of people already lined up. There was conflicting information, some saw online that doors open at noon, and when I called I was told line up early preferably noon or 12:30 and doors open at time of event. We received a splash of their "2024" Sauvignon Blanc upon entering. The lawn area had large tables that seated 9 with white table cloths. There were two alcohol stations, one for bottle service, and the other station for mixed drinks, bottled wine, and wine by the glass. They had 3 food trucks, and a few vendors. The crowd was lively, and the dance floor was bumping. The event was cashless so make sure you have your credit/debit card on hand. A fun event to kickstart your summer. read more

Came here for a wine tasting today with a party of 3, we had reservations for 12noon. Since it was blazing hot outside in Livermore, we called ahead to ask for an indoor seating. I did the $40 tasting menu, and my friends and I shared the charcuterie cheese plate for $25. I also ended up taking home of the $50 Aly's pinot, since it was my favorite from the tasting. Pros: - The staff pouring for us was super knowledgeable about the winery and gave us a lot of cool facts! I had no idea that Wente was one of the oldest wineries in California (she said 1800's!!??) and it's supposedly one of the oldest (if not the oldest?) family owned winery in California, for 5 generations. Also apparently more than 75% of the chardonnay grapes in California are descendants of Wente chardonnay, pretty cool. I love learning about a winery's history so this was fun to listen to. - Pretty unique tasting menu - I liked that they were upfront that Livermore shouldn't try to compete with Napa cabs - but we tasted a really good pinot, and a really good cab franc, and a great duetto. The brute that we started with was also delicious. - Easy parking lot with lots of space, and they didn't get annoyed that we were 15 mins late to our reservation time. It was bustling and clearly a popular winery, but not so crowded where we felt like there wasn't enough space to talk, laugh, and be served. - Really beautiful tasting room! Loved the wine shelf in the middle of the room and really pretty outdoor area. - The charcuterie board was actually really delicious! not cheap cheeses and pretty delicious fruit (a little overpriced but there's limited options there) Cons: - the rose wine was mid to me. - No discounts for bottles you take home if you do the tasting Overall, would definitely not mind coming back for the ambiance, wine, and cheese! My friend and I made a brief stop before my flight back home . I'm so glad we stopped by Wente Vineyard. The vineyard is very large and beautiful. There is a golf course located on the opposite side of the vineyard and a golf shop for golf equipment and other golf related items . Wine tasting is available as well as a restaurant for dining . I'll start with the one unsavory experience before getting to the highlights. Before leaving the vineyard, me and one other person in my party purchased wine bottles to take home. The man who brought over the bottles entered my friend's credit card information manually into the iPad to check out. The receipt was sent to her email, which is where she saw the man tipped himself 36%. If you scroll down to another person's review, they also mentioned another staff member tipping themselves. As for our earlier experience, we had the Cave Tour & Barrel Tasting experience which was $75 per person. You take the tour with other parties unless you choose the private tour option. We first had a white wine while in the waiting room before starting the tour. Portions of this tour is held outdoors, so be sure to bring a hat or sunglasses. Inside the cave we tried a handful of red wines and the tour ended at the starting location where we tried 2 more red wines. If you take the tour, you get the option to purchase wines at a discounted price (this may or may not also be true for when you do the other wine tasting options). The grounds are scenic and there are lots of places to sit and they mentioned there was a walkable restaurant, though no food is served directly at the vineyard. read more

My goal is to try all the wineries in the Livermore area and Wente Vineyards was next on my list. Came on a Saturday afternoon for a tasting and we did not make reservations. It's recommended on the website but the winery is pretty big so there's plenty of seatings in the lounge. Jack was our sommelier and he was so knowledgeable and friendly! The tasting was $30 per person for 5 wines and my favorite was the Brut sparkling wine. Im not a huge wine drinker so quite honestly, I don't know what's good and what's not. Most importantly for me, it has to taste good and easy to go down. We tried a variety of white and red wines. Overall, the experience was great and we really enjoyed the ambiance. At the end, I decided to get myself a bottle of the Brut ($50) to enjoy at home. My friends wanted to go wine tasting, but we needed to eat lunch first. They wanted to go to Wente as our first stop and tried the Grill. We sat outside because the weather was nice. However, there were cobwebs interwoven in the table, and slats of the chairs which left a feeling of unease for spiders crawling on you. My friends ordered the lobster grilled cheese and the chicken salad sandwich. I ordered the shrimp and grits. I am not a fan of shrimp but I'm a picky eater and didn't want anything else on the menu. For the shrimp and grits, the grits or a little too creamy and the sauce did not offer enough flavor, even though they were diced up bits of andouille sausage in it. The shrimp was OK. For the lobster grilled cheese sandwich, my girlfriend said that the lobster didn't taste like anything and the cheese barely had any flavor. She would not order it again. For the chicken salad, my girlfriend said that the seed bread was too hard and cut up the roof of her mouth like it was Dutch crunch, but it wasn't. She will not order this again. The service was very friendly, however, our water was only refilled once after we received the bill and we did not see our waiter to refill our water glasses between the first initial pour to the second pour after the bill was received. read more

Five star experience all the way! My husband and I came here with some family members on a whim, we were in the area looking at the scenery and we decided to just stop by. We walked around the grounds first, and it was very gorgeous, very beautiful day and well kept in general. Everything is very well manicured and beautiful. When you walk in, you can speak to an employee and they will ask you if you have a reservation or if you are essentially a walk-in. We told them we were here for some wine tasting, and we had no reservation, they were able to see us immediately. Our waitress was very personable, I unfortunately do not recall her name, but she was very knowledgeable about all the wines that we were tasting as well as the area and we ended up chatting with her a bit during the winetasting and more so after we were done. Unfortunately, I do not recall all of the names of the wines that we tasted, but I honestly believe that if you were coming to taste wine, you should go on a whim and go based off of your own personal preferences anyway and especially if you're like me and you really have no background of liking wine or drinking it at all, it's nice to sort of surprise yourself with choosing Random ones based on the recommendation of your waiter or waitress. All of the ones we tried were absolutely delicious, the higher quality ones were definitely my favorite, but I feel like that's a given and for me personally I'm not one for very strong tasting alcohol, but I like the fruity flavor and some of the higher quality ones had nice fruity and floral finishes, which I really enjoyed. Our time here was really pleasant, it was just nice to sort of get away from the busy city vibe and relax on a nice warm day. I ended up buying a bottle for my mother who absolutely loves wine so I felt like I could not leave here without getting one for her. The ambience throughout is gorgeous, it's bright and airy and fresh, every corner you turn to is all about wine of course and it really makes you feel like you're away from home. if sitting inside is not really what appeals to you, they do have an outdoor area that you can sit in, or they also have this area of grass in front of the establishment with chairs, so you can literally order your wine and then take it outside and just relax in the gorgeous weather.
