We made reservations for Saturday at 1:00pm. We chose to the the tasting outdoors. It's completely shaded and there's fans. We came on 94 degree day and it was hot! It didn't make for a very good experience. The wines here didn't impress us much. Not sure if we just don't like Italian wines or what...When we walk in to check in, we were given a glass of champagne before we sat down. There's 4 different flights. There's 3 $25 flights and 1 $35 flight. Very generous pours here. They serve the flights on wine racks. Our lady didn't really explain much to us until we asked about the history and what they are popular for. They are sister winery to Rubino. We thought the wines from ruby hill and rubino tasted pretty much the same. No outside food allowed here. read more

I came here yesterday during their last day open before the shut down for COVID-19. Since I reserved in advance, we were seated in what used to be the members patio. It was absolutely beautiful! The service was wonderful as was the wine. I ordered the standard red flight and my friend ordered the white flight. I ended up purchasing 2 bottles of wine, which waived the tasting fee! I am excited to enjoy these bottles on Christmas Eve and Day with my family :) Finally, I also purchased a wine aerator accessory that is in the shape of a Dinosaur! How cute! I will likely participate in their curbside pickup to pick up some more bottles to try before New Years! I highly recommend supporting this winery during this hard time. read more

I booked the Mello Cielo bus again for a group of friends. We booked the earlier tour that starts at 11:30- we were asked to be there 15 minutes early. They are not really set up to let everyone use their own credit card- so you might want to make that clear to your friends. One of my guests used their own credit card- but for the rest, they paid me back after I put it all on my credit card. Also, let everyone know there is an expected tip at the end. You will also have the chance to purchase wine with a 10% discount. We started with a drink and the rules. Face masks were required- which I appreciate. Do wear closed toed shoes (you cannot take the tour without them) and dress comfortably. The barrel room can be chilly and you need sturdy shoes for the vineyard if you get out to walk around in the Peacock patch. The bus has no seat belts but is very comfortable. Apparently, it was used by roadies on Grateful Dead tours!!!! How cool is that? You will stop at Rubino and do a barrel tasting (Rubino is a sister winery to Ruby Hills). You will then go to the Water Tower and have a sit down tasting. All the wines were delicious and it was fun to explore the cheese pairings. We each had a separately packed tasting box- since with Covid a large communal cheese board is unhygienic. After the Water Tower you go back to Ruby Hills for an after dinner wine which was delicious- and came in a large bottle! The bus tour is quite a lot of fun and everyone had a good time. I moved to Pleasanton over a year ago and I can't believe this is my first time at a winery in this area! Such an adorable winery and I'm so glad we picked this location as our first winery visit in Pleasanton and also for our 10 year anniversary. We made last minute reservations online and it was only a 15 mins drive from our house. We arrived a few mins before our reservation and they gave us a glass each of complimentary Chardonnay. Our wine ambassador was so sweet and knowledgeable with the wines. Got some great tips on the order of how to enjoy them! We ordered a white wine flight ($25) and a jewel flight ($35). Unfortunately no outside food allowed but there is a deli area where you can purchase cheese and crackers, salami. The wine tasting reservation is 90 mins and it allows us enough time to chit chat, eat some cheese and crackers and enjoy the wine. We are no wine experts but i sure enjoyed this experience and the ambiance! Highly recommend this winery if you are in town! read more

The Ruby Hill staff did an amazing job accommodating my group of 20 for a tasting. We were running a bit late but the staff was very nice and understanding about it. The tasting reservation was 90 minutes and we were greeted with a glass of chardonnay. The staff led us outside to the front of the winery where there were many tables. The weather was very hot and sunny this day and the tables only provide a little bit of shade under the table umbrellas. They do have a back patio with a roof cover and fans. Since our group was big, we were divided into 3 tables - one did a flight tasting while the other two chose to purchase bottles. We asked for recommendations and enjoyed the wines they chose for us. We purchased cheese, meats, and crackers from the deli inside. If needed, you can ask for utensils and a wooden board. Due to the hot weather, our wines would get warm and the cheeses started to melt. The tasting experience was very fun and enjoyable, despite the weather and seat placement, so keep in mind that Pleasanton tends to be hot and dry during the summer days if you choose to taste here. read more

Ruby Hill Winery is one of my favorite wineries in the Tri-Valley. The scenery is beautiful and I appreciate how the staff is always so helpful and welcoming. I visited for a tasting and they did a great job explaining each wine and highlighting the key flavors. I brought my own charcuterie board and they even offered to put it in the fridge and bring it to me when I was ready for it. I came here to celebrate my good friend's birthday with a few friends. We were seated outside, no tables filled next to us, and at one point our waitress Lori, asks us to keep it down due to a complaint from another table. It was upsetting because A) we weren't loud and B) we were a table of black and brown Women who were having an amazing time until Lori came to mess it all up. You can pick up vibes very quickly and it was clear those complaints did not come from other customers. Looking around, everyone was having just a good time as we were. It was blatant racism and discrimination. Unfortunately Ruby winery just lost 3 potential club members because that treatment left a disgusting taste in all our mouths. read more

I came here to celebrate my good friends birthday Saturday, July 13th with a few friends. We sat outside at a booth. There was no one sitting at the booth behind us nor at the booth on the other side of us the whole time we was there. There was a good crowd sitting at the tables in the center. It was a good crowed of about 50 people. We were catching up with each other laughing and talking, and partaking in the delicious wine. We asked our server Lori about becoming members to the winery. I was fully prepared to join because I loved the atmosphere and the wine. After 2 hours our server Lori came to us stating, "I am sorry to come with a problem but there have been complaints of you ladies being too loud." We were totally appalled and humiliated. How could we possibly be too loud when there was no one near us and all were talking and laughing. You could barely hear what each table was talking about. I completely changed my mind of becoming a member. As a matter of fact 3 of us was planning on becoming a member. But after Lori's comment we will definitely not become members nor visit your winery again. I will stick to my membership with the wineries in NAPA. It was blatant racism. We were the only group of people that was of color. It was so disgusting and sad that your employees feel comfortable to outright pick the people of color. I wish I could give you a negative star rating. I believe you need to mandate "Diversity Training" for your staff. This put a damper on all of our moods ruining our friends birthday celebration. read more

I had planned this event a month prior with Marsha. We had an amazing time for our private event on Saturday, February 23rd in the barrel room reserved for 30 for (7) wine flights. The weather was perfect and the estate was beautiful. I'm not much of a wine drinker but even I was able to appreciate the barrel room and the wine selections. Our two hosts (I was able to remember Wayne, and another fabulous gal) were so much fun. Our entire party enjoyed our Ruby Hill experience and loved our hosts. We had the opportunity to hear the background on each selection and understand which bottles to purchase after. There were crackers and spread available throughout the wine tasting and there was enough wine for seconds or thirds, even though I didn't make it past the second selection- we had seven to go through! Probably the most fun that I've had at a winery! This little Livermore Valley gem is tucked away in the back hills of Pleasanton. I stopped here after hiking Del Valle and decided to "reward" my tough hiking efforts with some delicious wine. The architecture is stunning from the inside out! Beautifully designed and decorated! So many trinkets and great little items for sale. They have one of the most social tasting bars that I've been too! Everyone is so friendly here and the atmosphere is super lively. It kind of reminds me of V. Sattui but a much smaller version. They produce an array of varietals but are best known for their red wines. Ruby Hill is the sister winery of Rubino Estates and is one of the largest producers of wine in Livermore Valley! What I loved about tasting here was being able to taste multiple great quality wines at a super affordable price! The price points for their wine are extremely reasonable and the best part is that their wines are delicious! I literally enjoyed every single red wine that I tasted, but my favorites were their Grapeful Dead Red Blend, Tempranillo, & Jewel Zinfandel. If you're into floral and fruit forward reds, Ruby Hill is definitely the spot for you! They have 2 different flights available: their estate flight and their jewel flight. If you're looking for variety, I would go with their estate tasting. However, if you're looking for something a little more aged and high end, then the Jewel flight is your best bet! I ended up taking a bottle of their Grapeful Dead Red Blend home and it was delicious! The sommeliers are such a blast here! Shoutout t Shay and Wayne! They really showed me a great time! They had such great service from beginning till the end. The winery, deli, patio was very clean and it felt safe for all different levels of covid paranoia. We sat in the smaller reserved outside patio and people felt comfortable to move, stand, sit at a reasonable/comfortable distance of their choice. After our 90 mins was over, they let us sit in there outside patio out front which was great. We did 2 different set out of the 4 flights of wine tasting. There are so many amazing wineries in the Tri-valley it is really sad that this is not one of them. We each had ordered a flight of wine and a cheese platter and were having a great time. Our evening came to an abrupt end when our server Leanne approached and said, "I need you to leave". The winery closed at 5:30 and we were rudely told to leave at 5:40 by our server who must have somewhere to be. We really expected more from a winery that is representing Ruby Hill and we didn't not get it. We called and the call was returned by the General Manager and basically told, "Sorry, I will talk to her" The point being, yesterday we went to McGrail Vineyards in Livermore and were welcomed like we were family members and had an awesome time. Today we went to Ruby Hill Winery and we're treated like we were bothering our server and told essentially get out. Here is my advice, you are choosing to spend your time and money to have a great time and some great wine, so please choose wisely. You most likely will receive better customer service at a local liquor store then you will at Ruby Hill Vineyards. read more

He asked me to plan a wine tasting for him & a few of my other siblings in Livermore since he had a nice experience when we went to Wente Winery during his last visit. I didn't want to take him back to the same place so I searched for another spot close by and this place popped with some pretty good reviews. In all honesty, since I don't drink, I try to find somewhere that has a nice scenery so I can at least appreciate my time here as well. Surprisingly, this winery pleased us all! My siblings got their wine tasting while I got my Yelp photos. The four of them opted for the jewel flight, and requested for just the reds since they all enjoy drinking reds over whites. They all enjoyed the wine selections, even though they didn't agree on the same wine since some liked their wine light while the others preferred the full bodied finish. Their sommelier, Leo, was extremely friendly and accommodating. He took his time to explain each pour. We didn't feel rushed at all even though it was extremely busy being that it's the Saturday before Mother's Day. My younger sister even decided to buy a bottle to take home because she really liked the wine. She even considered the possibility of becoming a member, but I told her we wouldn't come that often so it wouldn't be worth it & she agreed. Very rude staff !! bad experience considering it was my special day!!! They push you to get membership but they don't allow you to use restrooms when the doors are still open! You respect your customers and they will respect you! If zero stars were available I would have given zero stars. No explanation of wine was given. If you buy a bottle they do not present the bottle to you. They open it at the bar and then bring it out. No confirmation if that is indeed the bottle we asked for. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Although this is a beautiful location, the management is terrible. We were excited to celebrate a birthday so our expectations were high. Midway through our tasting, we wanted to purchase food but there was no employee to be found. I went up to the wine bar where a man was pouring wine & I asked where I can purchase the items and he gave me a rude look and waved his hand at me as if to "shoo me away". That was very disrespectful. Worst part was the case of the bathroom usage. I have never been to a winery that refuses guests to use the bathroom almost immediately after serving their guests wine and lacks to inform them of closure time. If I were the server, I would've said "hey, we close in about 15 minutes, so if there is anything I can offer you guys this is last call! Please note that our bathrooms will lock as soon as we close." This was NOT the case. No information like this was given and when I knocked on the door, there were clearly staff members enjoying themselves inside so I don't see why they would lock the doors if it was a liability concern. Someone did eventually open the main door for us and I politely asked if I could use the bathroom, and this rude little man said "we're closed!" And shut the door on me. They made the excuse that the bathrooms have been cleaned already. Mind you, this was at 6:05pm. If the bathrooms really took 5 minutes to clean, then I question the cleanliness of this establishment. If you wish to be discriminated against for no reason and like drinking subpar wine, then this is the place for you. Otherwise, put your money somewhere else. read more

Ruby Hill Winery has it all- good wines, good people and a nice property. They have indoor and outdoor tables (most outdoor are in the shade.) They offered 3 different tasting flights ranging from $20-$40. The wines are prices between $19-$55. Also, they do not allow outside food but have a little deli with prepackaged meats, cheeses, crackers, spreads, etc. When visiting the Livermore Valley I would recommend a stop here! read more

I wanted to give this place an excellent review, because while there the staff was very friendly and helpful. However, I purchased a cordials/shot glass, which cost $29 that was broken (the decorative piece was separated from the glass upon opening the box. I called twice and both times was told they would call me back because they were busy. I feel that they do not care about resolving this matter. As someone who collects shot glasses when I travel I am finding this situation to be very frustrating. It is the most expensive shot glass I have ever purchased and it's not usable. I was happy with the one on the showroom floor but was given one in the original. Buyer beware if you are not local. Check your merchandise if it comes in a box. read more

Visited this winery recently during the week. Had a really nice time while wine tasting. First, this winery is stuck offering wine tasting in flights. I'm old school I guess because I still like to interact with the server and see the bottles and hear information about the grapes, wine making process and the history of the winery. Here, none of this was offered unless we asked. John was our server and took great care of us. He brought over a glass of their sparkling wine and got our wine tasting going. I love their inside tasting room and their covered outside tasting area had ample room. Reservations were not needed but on weekends we found out they're needed. I can see how they'd get busy. I tasted the Red flight for $25. They'd waive the tasting fee if purchased 2 bottles. I loved most of the wines in my flight. I'll have to try their other wines. This place was so much fun! The service was exceptional, the wine was enjoyed by our entire group. We got the tour thru the Vinyards in the little yellow bus and Clay was our guide. He's the best! I noticed a review stating if you weren't Caucasian you weren't treated very good. Not the case at all. There were 14 of us not all Caucasian and we all had the best time and were wined and dined.
