roots has been one of my favourite cafes since i moved into the area a few years ago. found them by happenstance on uber eats and immediately knew they would be a forever-cafe for me. the avocado toast here is my go-to order, add 2 fried eggs and it's perfect! their everything seasoning is better than anything i've gotten in grocery stores; makes each bite so addictive. i've tried many of the waffles with no complaint, and the cuban is delicious. before i realized i was allergic to bananas, their banana pudding was everything to me. such a yummy treat and i miss it every day!! the david is a solid coffee, but i prefer it hot over iced. but speaking of coffee... their espresso is out of this world - i have purchased their beans countless times because they're that good! my go-to drink is an iced honey lavender latte and it hits EVERY SINGLE TIME!! i will literally never get sick of it. if i recommend any drink, that's the one! every worker here is super nice and accommodating, i've never had any issues with anyone i've spoken to and everyone is sweet and welcoming. the inside of the cafe is cute and cozy, but it does run warm in there even in the summer, so just keep that in mind if you plan to kick back and study! the parking lot is annoying at certain times of the day, especially on weekends because of the kbbq next door, but you can usually find something if you don't mind a super short walk. i could rave about them all day, but they're definitely a staple in my cafe runs! read more

Amazing coffee, especially if you're a fan of lavender lattes! Not only was it smooth to drink, the flavor of the espresso wasn't overpowered by the fragrant syrup, so I was still able to get that full coffee taste that I love. Bonus points because I was feeling super energized and ready to take on the world once finishing, and regretting not ordering a larger size. If you're looking to change things up, they have turmeric lattes, matchas, milk teas, and smoothies as well as a wide variety of eats like breakfast burritos, avocado toasts, churros, and waffles. Though I haven't had their food, everything looks fantastic and will warrant a stop-by soon. This is a great local shop if you're looking for some great coffee. Highly recommend. read more

Long overdue honestly came here for the cereal milkshake and after seeing all the banana pudding advertisement gave it a try. As a southern born and raised man I must say this is the best banana pudding I've ever had, and I'm not exaggerating . Great comfort food and a really friendly staff! The burrito was delicious. The good was quick and the service was good. The salsa was yummy.

I went today and was very pleased with everything! I got the Iced Mocha and really enjoyed it. It has a stronger espresso flavor than usual, which I liked. I also tried the Strawberry Hibiscus Tea, which was just... wow! It was definitely on the sweeter side, almost like a juice, but I cannot even begin to describe how delicious it was! I have also tried the breakfast burrito, and it was pretty salty, but had a good flavor. The service was great, and it was pretty quiet and empty, so I was easily able to find a table and get some work done. I will definitely be back, if for anything, the strawberry hibiscus tea! read more

One of my favorite coffee shops both in Cerritos and in general! I like their flavored lattes---my go-to being the toffee nut latte. They do have other menu items such as cold brews, cream top drinks, milk teas, etc. I believe they serve some food as well. The coffee typically comes out in under five minutes and it's always delicious! They have a variety of plant based milk, including oat milk which is my preferred choice. The service is decent, some cashiers are friendly and welcoming, but all of them are pretty quick with making the drinks! Parking is not a problem, it's a large parking lot but does get packed on weekends if you don't come early in the day. read more

Cute place in this strip mall. An outdoor tent is set up with chairs. You order at the counter and they bring your food packaged in to go containers. We had the hot chaga drink and an iced strawberry matcha. The avocado toast had a nice seasoning and paired well with the egg on top. The matcha waffle also had lots of flavors with all the toppings. Plenty of parking in the lot and when we got there at 9am it wasn't busy. Started to get busier around 10am. read more

Oh Roots, what would we do without you? We LOVE roots and I love trying/finding new coffee shops. Support small businesses right? Roots has done it right. Their menu is so simple. Nothing too over extravagant just the usual latte, cappuccino, cold brew, espresso, americano.... they don't have lavender white chocolate latte or caramel vanilla blah blah blah. It's simple! It's coffee done right! Nothing burnt. Nothing acidic. It's your good ol' amazing coffee. When you walk in it smells amazing already and we usually order iced latte. Sometimes a double shot. Simple syrup and it's perfection in a cup! I don't even have to ask my husband (but I still do sometimes) what coffee he wants. I already know it's Roots For him all day everyday. If you haven't tried it then you are missing out. If you are looking for great coffee, you have to go here. Oh! And we have tried their waffles (matcha) it was amazing too! They have avocado toast. This place was the only reason I had to visit so far back this plaza. The seating area was a bit small here, but serviceable. Ordered the Honey Oat Latte and a Breakfast Burrito. Had to ask them to check on the burrito for us since it hadn't come out 15ish minutes after ordering. The Honey Oat Latte was a five star. Perfect sweetness and creaminess and the coffee notes really stood out. The Breakfast Burrito was okay, made with cheese, egg, sausage, and a side of salsa. I wasn't a fan of the sausage, but overall a decent burrito. In the future I'd get my coffee here and pick up breakfast at a different spot instead. read more

I don't usually leave reviews unless I find the spots a fantastic find. We decided to come here before our Disneyland trip, we tried other coffee shops during our visit, but I would have come here every day until our vacation was over. The food was great. The coffee was great. The attitudes of the employees were great (unlike a lot of other ones we've been to). I don't determine if a place is good or not due to how the attitude of the employees but it definitely makes one feel welcome. 100% recommend. read more

I was super excited to try Roots because the avocado toast and waffles looked really good online. The egg was so well done it was like a hard boiled egg. The guy was nice enough to make me another egg. But still, no runny yolk. Way too overcooked. What a disappointment. The thai tea was good. Milk tea was too bland for my taste. And the churro waffle was just ok. Again, not much flavor to enjoy. Even the ice cream was bleah. Not creamy. Seemed more like ice milk. I had to hold the line because my party was the only people inside on a weeknight. That being said, I slowly took my time to review the menu. I ended up ordering an Affogato, and it served with thin wafers. Would I recommend it? Yes. The decor of the place had an urban feel to it. I think the maximum seating was close to twenty (20) with a few two-seat tables and one group table. One reason I came to this place was that the place listed open for business until 9 pm. Sadly, this wasn't true. They said the cafe closes at 8. Although we were the only group inside, the cashier was kind enough to extend the time for an additional twenty minutes. First, I want to say I love the font of the cafe!! The actual Interior is quite small but it looks like a good place for studying or catching up with a friend. Don't quite get all the five star reviews for this place. I am very hesitant to try any coffee/tea places because there are so many of them and they all basically do the same thing. I only decided to give this place a try because of so many five star reviews. It was ok but there definitely wasn't any WOW factor for me. It's a fairly small place with an I-shape layout. The menu is pretty simple and prices are reasonable, although not great. Prices have gone up since about a month ago (based on some of the older menu photos). For coffee drinks, this places uses Stumptown. For tea, it uses Art of Tea. I got the Green Tea Latte (iced) and Churro Waffle. The latte was decent but not much different from any other place. I really expected more from the waffle because of so many people raving about it. It was just ok for me. It's basically a regular waffle with some cinnamon sprinkled on top and served with ice cream and whip cream. I didn't care for the ice cream it came with. I actually would've preferred without it because the ice cream was rather dense and had some ice crystals in it. I added sliced strawberries for $0.50 extra but the strawberries didn't even look that fresh. I was even more disappointed because the price on the waffles went up. I came in thinking the price was still 40% off regular price (from looking at some of the older menu photos). It was not only at the regular price, but even the regular price went up from $7 to $8. I've become numb to all these coffee/tea places, yet I still keep trying them, hoping to find a place with something unique to offer. Seems with each new place I try, I feel slightly more hopeless. read more

We got the fruity pebble smoothie with oat milk and to be honest it was a waste of money. If it was idk, a shake with regular or non dairy ice cream and they put some unblended pebbles in it too it might have been worth it but basically just taste like you let a bowl of cereal get mushy then you blended it. For the price you could buy a whole carton of milk and a box of cereal and it would taste better so id suggest just doing that instead. read more

This place is so cute! It's a small cafe in the plaza with Carrow's on Bloomfield & South, conveniently located right next to my nail salon, lol. We came here around 7:30 pm on a Saturday night. There were maybe 5-6 people on their laptops or doing some work. At first I thought the music was too low, but I can see now that the low music makes for a relaxing environment and is not distracting to those who need to concentrate. We ordered a lavender latte with almond milk and a caramel latte with soy milk, both hot. I completely LOVED my lavender latte. The flavor wasn't too overpowering, and it wasn't too sweet. Definitely recommend getting it! The caramel latte tasted good as well, and wasn't too sweet either. We also ordered the matcha waffle, which was delicious! As we were waiting, we could smell the waffle cooking, which got our tastebuds going! The waffle was perfectly crispy on the outside while still being soft. Just like the drinks, it wasn't too sweet even though it had ice cream, whipped cream, and condensed milk. I would definitely come here to grab some coffee with friends or get some work done. They also had some board games by the front. The environment is very serene with minimal noise, and the service was friendly as well. There's also a Groupon for 50% off as of 9/1/18! Drinks are 8/10, but the staff and really nice and kind. I got a iced matcha latte, definitely a little chalky and was there was little lumps of powder on the bottom but it was still enjoyable. If you enjoy sweeter match you'll enjoy, if not ask for less sweet. They also have really good vegan donuts. read more

Service was fine, but being that they serve in a box when you are eating makes it difficult to enjoy. I ordered the Belgian waffle, which could have been hotter, and it was served with syrup that was on the colder side. On a plate with hot syrup and this would be 5 out of 5. Before the covid situation I came here once a month for a drink to meet with my mentor. I switched between the matcha latte, matcha strawberry latte, and non-caffeinated teas and they're all great (caramelized pear was my go-to). I do wish the staff members were more consistent in asking if you have a stamp card/if you would like one bc there have been occasions where I completely forget and wish I got my purchases validated on the stamp card (but that's prob my fault ) During the covid situation I called in an order once and it was done by the time I drove from the Cerritos mall to Roots, and a very easy and safe transaction. This is more of a 4.5, but I'll round up to 5 because I can't go halfsies on Yelp and the people here are just so pleasant. Roots is a lovely little new cafe next to Red Palace KBBQ. It's got a hip Downtown LA cafe feel but brought to the quiet suburb of Cerritos. They serve high quality coffee, teas, and snacks that are above what you'll get at most other cafes in the area. They serve Stumptown coffee, so, if you like that, this is the place for you. I like to come here for some light studying. There's free Wi-Fi and the ambiance is pleasant. It can get a little warm on a hot day, though. The seating is also a little limited. I haven't had a bad drink here, and the churro waffle is really good. My only complaint here (thus the half star reduction) is that everything does cost more than I'd usually want to pay. The churro waffle is good, but not good enough to where I'll be getting it again soon. But I will keep coming back for good coffee; that is a necessity. read more

It was there grand opening when I stopped by today so they had a 40% off deal on their toasts and waffles. I ordered an avocado toast and asked the barista for drink recommendations. Based on her suggestion that the slushes would pair better with the avocado toast then the cereal smoothie I was eyeing, I ended up ordering a strawberry yogurt slush. The employee at the register was super nice and gave me a discount on my drink as well. My avocado toast was pretty good, especially when I added tapatio to it like one of the employees suggested. My drink was also pretty refreshing, just like the barista described. My total came out to about $7, when it normally would have been $11-12. While I enjoyed my avocado toast, I'm not sure I would be willing to pay their full price for it ($7), as I've had more filling avocado toasts for around the same price. However, I do want to come back and try their waffles and cereal smoothie, which sound pretty amazing. On a side note, service was great and the interior was pretty cute. read more

A fantastic addition to the local coffee scene and a much needed boost to the plaza it's located in. This small coffee place has a modern interior with a handful of two-top tables, a counter and a large communal table. It's cute yet nothing fancy but the quality of food, beverage and service make this a destination stop. The staff here were all very friendly and treated me very warmly. Their menu is limited but frankly it makes it easier to order than at those places that have 100 different options (most of which taste terrible). Here they offer Stumptown coffee which is great stuff, deep and full-bodied in flavor as evidenced by the Americano I ordered. I also had a couple of their macarons and the churro waffle. The macaron flavors I ordered were chi tea and pineapple-coconut. Both were delicate and soft with very flavorful fillings. I especially liked the fruity pineapple flavor. There are so many places in this area offering below-standard macarons that these really stand out from the pack; without a doubt the best ones I've had in south L.A. or north OC counties. They're made the way macarons are suppose to be. The churro waffle was superb. The waffle was perfectly made: slightly crunchy exterior with a warm, soft interior. It was covered in a cinnamon sugar with dollops of whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. Holy moly, this was really wonderful. Prices are excellent - no sticker shock here. I also enjoyed the music they were playing (tunes from the 80s) although I'm not sure that's what'll always be coming through the speakers. My only negative thought is that I wish they had more seating because this place will need it once everyone discovers it. read more

We've been twice and won't be back. The girl in the front is cold and plainly hates her job. It seems others have given a similar review over the course of a year about her, and yet she remains. I asked for cream in my coffee and she measured a tablespoon out for it. When I asked for more she was disgruntled by the fact that I wanted like four more tablespoons. It was an odd encounter. When we asked if we could double up on meat in a breakfast sandwich she replied no because their "cook wasn't in". It's deli ham. I don't get why that applies? We paid for bacon and egg for my husbands avocado toast and got neither. If the service was kinder, we'd give it another go and try the churro waffle everyone raves about. A total bummer because the coffee is good, it's a cute little place, and it's so close to work. read more

I'm conflicted on giving this review but it has bothered me enough to write an updated review. I still love the coffee that I get from Roots - the quality I get from them is consistent. The Cold Brew with Lavender Cream is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine, and everything else is generally pretty good. That said, I'm not quite sure what the policy is for Roots, but there is always one female employee (typically on the weekdays) that never wears her mask when greeting employees. She tends to scratch her hair and rub her face / nose when taking orders, handling our cups (which she sometimes grabs from the inside), or taking our credit cards. Obviously with COVID and its variants continuing to go around, I feel like customer safety / cleanliness should be at the highest priority for lots of businesses so the lack of mask is already one thing, but it is just totally unsanitary to be doing what she's doing before handling people's orders. I'm often disappointed when I decide to go and see that she's working, which stinks because everyone else tends to be super friendly and courteous, but it has definitely discouraged my willingness to come back as often as I used to. read more
