Cute little cafe, and inside is super clean. They have a really nice art piece right when you get in. Parking is really easy, big lot, and plenty of spots. Employees are friendly and service was pretty quick. All of the employees here are super pretty too. On their menu, they half a good chunk of it crossed out. It was mostly the food though I think. I didn't look too deep into it, because I already kind of knew I wanted something simple. I got a cold brew with pumpkin cream foam. The barista asked if i wanted cinnamon on it, I said yes. To be honest, I didn't taste anything pumpkin about it. I would definitely come back though and try a different drink. read more

Cool cafe! Lots of seats and drinks to choose from! I was also surprised to see that they have sandwiches too. They also have some donuts and pastries. I tried their matcha latte with less ice. It not sweet, which is how I like it, but I wish the matcha taste was a bit stronger. I was gonna try their coffee, and I should have lol. After ordering, I saw that they have chagaccino (mushroom coffee)! Need to try this next time! Love the ambiance. It's quiet and good for chatting with others. The staff member was very friendly. First time at this coffee shop and if it wasn't for Yelp, I wouldn't have ever know there was a coffee shop in this plaza. My husband and I came here to try out some drinks. We ordered The David (iced Vanilla Latte made w/H+H and topped with Cinnamon Vanilla Cream) and Cereal Milk Smoothie w/Cinnamon Toast. The David was really good - just the right amount of caffeine to sweet to creamy for me. It's definitely worth a try at Roots Cafe. However, the Cereal Milk Smoothie was a huge disappointment. The "smoothie" was more icy than creamy and basically felt like I could've made it at home. Wish the drink had blended better since it's listed as a smoothie on the menu but wasn't the consistency as expected. There's a few tables for customers to sit and one restroom for customer use. Roots is located in a pretty decent plaza with tons of parking. The atmosphere is more calm so I can see someone coming here to study or meet with a friend to catchup. read more

Not a place for real coffee drinkers. It was the early afternoon, and I just wanted a cup of black coffee. I had been there before to try their lattes and other drinks, and those were ok. So I asked them if they had just plain black coffee, and they said they did. I watched as they got a cup of old coffee from the morning, put it in a small metal pitcher, and then use the steam wand to heat it up! McDonald's has fresher coffee than that. I was desperate for caffeine, so I gave it a try -- it was as bad as I thought it'd be. Old coffee that was now warm. Never again. Too many other, better coffee shops out there. read more

Their Iced Vanilla Latte (love getting it sugar free vanilla as well), is my favorite iced latte!!!! It is the perfect flavor profile for me, can't explain it but i've had it at large coffee chains, other mom & pop coffee shops, yet, the Roots Cafe one just... speaks to me. And its delicious and perfect. Only downside is that there isn't a larger size than their large! I'd gladly treat myself to a super big iced vanilla latte, but the large will do just fine :) read more

I absolutely love the coffee at this cafe! If I was closer to it, I would stop by nearly every morning. It's a nice vibe with plenty of indoor seating. It is located in a small business plaza with ample parking spaces. This cafe serves tea, waffles, avocado toast, and more. Their waffle was decent. It was a nice treat to share between two people and comes with a scoop of ice cream. Personally tried the matcha waffle, which comes with condensed milk as a topping instead of the traditional syrup. I've gone twice now to roots and feel like I'll be coming here often. Not only for the drinks but for the relaxing atmosphere. They have a good amount of drink offers as well as foods with tables that are all two tops. No more no less. The tables are on the smaller size to doing assignments with textbooks, laptops, and notebooks might be a tight squeeze. The cafe offers their own merch and has a playlist to my liking, sorta catered to the younger crowd like myself. Roots will now be my "go to" for my latte cravings as well as when I need to get assignments done. read more

Always on the lookout for a great coffee shop, and finally got enough coffee time today. Got myself a toffee nut latte, hot for takeout. Quick and personable server at the counter, he rang me up for my purchase. A different lady prepared the coffee itself. Cute little coffee shop, with some small tables, probably to encourage short visit customers rather than those looking to use the WiFi. I noted some small objets d'art and other crafted goods for sale. Coffee beans by the bag were $15 for 8 ounces or so. Took home raisin cookies, a lemon square (think of lemony coffee cake) and the banana pudding. Not sure if the desserts are made in house but that banana pudding is a perfect sweet end to anyone's meal! I had a spoonful of it after my workday and it just made everything seem so much better than it went. I was going to get a second cup but they close at 5 pm , it will have to wait until another day! I ordered an iced s'mores latte for myself & a hot chestnut latte for my husband (both were sooo good!) At first, the hot latte was accidentally made iced, but the barista was very sweet & insisted on remaking it for me even when I said it was okay (even let me keep the iced coffee). Our attention went towards our traditional and favorite coffee option, a hot Honey Oat Latte with oat milk and a dash of ground cinnamon on top. A warm honey oat latte is the perfect way to start the morning, and Root's rendition of the drink did not disappoint. The warm cinnamon and honey fuse never goes wrong! We also ordered an Affogato. After months and months of desiring and craving the vanilla ice cream and espresso mix, and not being able to come across it, Roots Cafe had what he was looking for. It's the perfect coffee dessert as the bitter espresso neutralizes the sweetness from the vanilla ice cream. Roots elevates their item even more, adding Nilla Wafers into their affogato. If you guys are looking for an affogato, come to Roots!!!! Before starting Coffee Thursday, we've gone to this location and had their churro waffles, and they were certainly delicious. This week we had their avocado toast with bacon bits. Each coffee shop tries their own version of this toast, and Roots definitely does well, adding a great amount of seasoning and lemon juice to it! As previously stated, we've been to Roots before. They have certainly improved in taste. From this location, we also had their rose latte--delicious. Their lavender latte--also delicious. Another Sunday, another new coffee spot...Roots Cafe. For starters the place doesn't open until 9am on Sunday, which by that time I'm usually a couple cups in, but I didn't hold that against them. The reason we gave this place a shot was because they had a drink called "the David", and obviously I had to try it. Walking in they have a sign that they have the best banana pudding, of course I was intrigued, but not really something I have for breakfast with coffee. I ordered breakfast burrito without cheese, but they told me they were all premade and couldn't remove the cheese...which sucked....so now I had no choice but to order the banana pudding! Everything ordered was good, "the David" was nice, I could smell the cinnamon coming from the cup, but it wasn't overpowering. Now to the banana pudding...it was good but hard to say it's the best. To their defense though I find banana pudding is either good or bad, and this was good. They had a steady flow of customers, which was good to see, because this place is tucked away in a shopping center with lot of vacant shops. Definitely give them a shot if you're in the area or looking to try a new place. read more

Roots Cafe is one of my preferred coffee shops in the area. Not only do they offer all types of drinks that other places do not offer but they carry their yummy banana pudding that I love. Roots has lots of options of lattes. Besides just a normal basic latte you can get a lavender or turmeric option. If you have not tried their hazelnut latte then you must. Although they do not carry organic milk they have options for sweeteners, like monk fruit, which most places do not. They also have matcha, smoothies, other coffees and teas. Their food is also good. They have waffles, sandwiches, toast, and of course my favorite, their banana pudding. It's not too sweet and is always made fresh tasting. The staff is always nice and the pricing is just right. OVERALL Roots Cafe is a small cafe in Cerritos, CA, that serves breakfast and brunch items all day long. I loved having our girls' brunch here meanwhile listening to a business meeting at one small table behind us and a book club of about six women at joined tables to my left. RATING BREAKDOWN | Food: 4 | Service: 4 | Environment: 4 | Price: 4 | PARKING There is ample free parking in shared plaza lot. LOCATION/AMBIANCE It's a small place. I'm going to complain about the door being so dang heavy and difficult to push. Lol. You order at the counter. For drinks they will call it out for you to pick up. If you dine-in, they will call your name out and bring your food order to your table. The tables are minimal and small. I would not come here with a large group, however, I saw several patrons come in to pick up their online orders. The shared gender neutral restroom hasn't gotten a deep cleaning in a while, but we were grateful there was one so we could wash up before sitting down. THE GRUB My daughters and I ordered the following at 10AM on Sunday (4/3/22): + Breakfast Waffle ($10.00) - came with sliced bananas and strawberries. Meh. I preferred the churro waffle. + Churro Waffle ($9.00) - this was really good. Recommend it! My oldest asked an employee if they made their own ice cream. They don't. Lol. + Breakfast burrito with a small side of salsa ($8.00) - It was okay. I would not order it again, though. + Americano ($4.00) - my Yelp friend told me it was Intelligentsia Coffee. Damn good coffee if it was. + Frozen Hot Chocolate (regular size = $4.25) - my daughter chose this. It's a smoothie. Not very easy to sip until it thawed out for a while. Tasty, though. + Bottled apple juice ($2.25) LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB No kid's menu. It's okay for bigger kids who eat well or can share with you, but for babies and toddlers - definitely a no. SERVICE Service was very friendly. MY FAVORITE PART My Americano. That coffee was served piping hot. Full-bodied roast. NOT SO FAVORITE PART The eggs in the breakfast burrito tasted weird to me, plus they neglected to give us salsa with it. I eventually got a small container - not spicy whatsoever. Roots Café is such a great little spot. The coffee here is solid, always good and consistent. But honestly, what keeps me coming back is their banana pudding. It's absolutely phenomenal! I don't think I've had anything like it anywhere else. I'll go out of my way just to come here for that. If you're a banana pudding fan (or even if you're not), you need to try it.
