The BEST chilaquiles
Brenda I.

Cute breakfast/brunch food restaurant that has indoor and outdoor seating. It was a lovely day , so I chose the patio. Lots of yummy classic breakfast offerings with a twist! I ordered the chilaquiles. I placed my order with the friendly waitress and my food came out promptly. I was pleasantly surprised with the dish. The chips were bite sized ! Sooo much easier to eat than normal. It had just the right amount of verde sauce. Probably the best chilaquiles I've had!! The server also said this dish was her favorite... I will be bringing my hubby and daughter here in the future for sure!

Fried Chicken Katsu Sandwich-Fried and Loaded Chili Cheese Fries
Tyler K.

The food was delicious! I ordered the fried chicken Katsu sandwich and upgraded to a side of chili Cheese fries! The fried chicken was crispy and crunchy and the Cesar salad was crisp and fresh! The only thing that could improve is the service. Our waitress was friendly but could have been more attentive for refills and napkins. Also I didn't appreciate that we ordered a side of ranch and butter that took over ten minutes to come to the table but we're charged extra for each one! In my opinion that is a bit greedy to charge for a small side of ranch and small scoop of butter. Overall it was nice but service was subpar. I probably won't return. It was good food but service and extra charges are off putting... there are so many phenomenal breakfast places and I wouldn't say that this one is one that stands out. Hopefully, they can improve the service by being more attentive to the customers and not have charges for such small sides of condiments that take excessive amount of time to receive to the table.

This place is hidden in a strip mall near a Wells Fargo bank and a bunch of restaurants. It's open for breakfast and lunch with a choice between inside or outside dining. We chose inside and it's quite loud, despite being only a handful of people. My friend and I both ordered the Belgian waffle and I added the bacon and a side of whipped cream. The whipped cream was made in house, not the oozy kind from a spray can. It was delicious and worth the 75 cents. Service was good, coffee was refilled frequently. I wish they offered a larger mug instead of the small, probably 10 oz one that needs refilling frequently, especially since they charge $5 for it. We came on a Friday morning and it was pretty busy. I can only imagine how busy it would be on a weekend

Birria omelet with house potatoes abs sourdough toast

Went here for breakfast after doing our taxes. The restaurant is located in a shopping center with a Ralph's, CVS, H&R Block, a gym, etc There was a small crowd outside the restaurant which indicates a wait and of course the popularity of the restaurant. After putting our name down on the waitlist, we waited outside for about 20 minutes. We were seated inside. Our waitress came by within minutes to drop off water and take our drink order. After a couple of minutes she came back and took our order. My husband got the Green Chile Verde Omelet with hashbrowns and white toast. I got the Short Rib Birria omelet with house potatoes and sourdough toast. Our little one go a side of bacon and fries. Our food came out within about 10-15 minutes. We all enjoyed our breakfast. They had good portions and both our omelets were flavorful and delicious. I couldn't finish mine so I gave the rest to my husband. He loved it and said he would order it next time. Overall, staff was attentive, nice and friendly. Food was so good I can't wait to go back. Would highly recommend .

We finally had the chance to try Sunny on South and we are glad we made a reservation on Yelp. When we arrived, there was already a long wait, but since we had a reservation, we were able to get seated right away. Definitely recommend reserving ahead if you plan to visit. We ordered a vanilla latte and a caramel latte. Both were good and a great start to the meal. For food, we tried the Monte Cristo and the Corned Beef Benedict. The Monte Cristo was delicious. The batter was light and not too heavy, and the jam paired really well with it. The fruit on the side was fresh and a nice balance to the dish. The Corned Beef Benedict was also really good. The corned beef was tender, and the eggs were cooked just right. We chose the house potatoes on the side, and they were cooked crispy with just the right amount of seasoning. The place itself is small and can feel a bit crowded, especially during busy hours. That said, the price feels fair for the portion sizes. Overall, a great brunch spot and we will definitely come back. If you plan to try it, making a reservation is a good idea.

Nana's Breakfast Mess w/ 3 corn tortillas!!

Owned by Chef Tommy Ortega, who is also the owner of Amor Y Tacos (located in the same plaza), Sunny on South is a cute brunch spot. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, with many folks opting for the patio seating. The decor inside is also very cute - with a wall dedicated to street names in Cerritos and breakfast themes and phrases. I've been on a hunt for a good Monte Cristo, and I was excited to see that they had it on their menu! So, of course, I ordered the Monte Cristo with crispy hash browns, Nana's Breakfast Mess, Short Rib Birria Benedict, Belgian Waffles (comes with mixed berries), Fried Chicken Katsu & Waffles, and Loaded Chili Cheese Fries. My top three were Nana's Breakfast Mess, which comes with scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, ham, peppers & onions over roasted breakfast potatoes, topped with sausage gravy and chives. It comes with flour or corn tortilla, which I opted for the corn tortilla. I loved all the different textures in this hot mess of deliciousness! The Loaded Chili Cheese Fries were also solid, and the Short Rib Birria Benedict was very flavorful. The Monte Cristo wasn't as memorable, but I'd definitely come back here for the other items mentioned.

Corned Beef Benedict

This was a nice place to try. The restaurant has a quaint feel, and the large outdoor patio adds to the overall experience, especially if you enjoy dining outside. The corned beef benedict was well prepared and flavorful, and the biscuits and gravy were a solid, comforting option. Both dishes were satisfying and nicely done. Our server, Gloria, was pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu, which made ordering easy and straightforward. Overall, a pleasant experience and a good spot to check out if you're in the area.

hair from the staff! please wear hairnet or hats.

This used to be our local go-to breakfast spot. The food has always been decent for the area if you're craving breakfast, but the service was always kind of mid. Recently though, it's gotten really bad. The staff looked like they didn't want to be there, and it felt like customers had to do the work themselves. We had to get up from our table just to ask for utensils and again to find someone so we could pay, almost like we were inconveniencing them. One of our dishes even had a hair in it, which honestly wasn't surprising because no one in the kitchen wears hats or hairnets. We lost our appetite immediately. They did replace the dish, but there was zero apology and the staff came off hostile the entire time. Restaurant business is tough, and with the way this place is being run now, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it closes down soon. Hopefully new ownership can eventually turn it around because the spot does have potential.

Stopped by on a Monday morning around 10:30 or so. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and were given the option of indoor or outdoor seating. They also let you pick the table which was nice. I decided to try the iced vanilla latte with almond milk which was okay. I also got the Monte Cristo which was good. I really liked the batter? Not too sure how it's made but it reminded me of the fried food from a fair! Personally I didn't like the spicy syrup or jams that is offered on the side so I just had it with regular maple syrup. The house potatoes were great! They had great seasoning. I would definitely check it out if you're in the area!

Good breakfast! Good latte! Great service! I would recommend this place for a nice, local breakfast. I will probably go back eventually.

Brunch burger

This is a great spot for brunch. Nice atmosphere where you can seat indoors or outdoors. We ordered the chicken katsu and waffles and the smash burger. Both were great, delicious. The chicken katsu was super thick and I enjoyed the tangy syrup that was glazed over it. Had a little kick, not too much. I asked the server how the lattes were and he was a bit confused I asked and basically just said they are sweet. We ended up ordering two lattes. They were basically sweet milk flavored so I wouldn't recommend that.

Chicken Katsu Waffles
Melody C.

Kind of sad that we finally got to try this place! Wait was not too bad. When we ordered, a server tossed the extra napkins on the table. I thought that was a bit rude. My husband got the chicken katsu with waffles and it was good. Katsu was nice and crispy. The waffles were a bit undercooked but good enough to eat. I got the short rib birria omelette with house potatoes & tortilla. I ate mine like mini breakfast tacos and finished whatever I had left after eating the tortillas. They give you 3 tortillas! I wish they gave a bit more pico and meat. Portions were pretty good. Flavor was good. Pricey but worth it because food is tasty. Only thing that got me was that they include tax in the suggested tip. Usually top suggestion is without tax.

Signature Sunny French Toast

Wait time It was New Year's Day so I assumed it might be calmer, and nope, there was a wait. I hopped on the waitlist and we waited about 25 minutes. It's a good breakfast spot, and you'll want to go earlier or get on the waitlist early, because it's not really worth a long wait. Seating It had rained earlier, but it dried out by the time we got there. When a table opened up, they wiped down the patio seating and sat us outside, and my chair was still a little wet. So, we left with wet booties and full bellies :) Parking Easy breezy. Always appreciated, especially on a busy morning. Service Our server was really sweet. My son is 10 but talks like a grown-up and refused to order off the kids menu. She was clearly amused while taking our order and kept looking over at me like, "Okay mom, what's the verdict?" Cute moment, good energy. Food My son got their signature French toast and it was the standout. Soft, sweet, buttery goodness. The strawberries were a little tart since they're not really in season right now, and the French toast itself was so good it didn't matter. I ordered the chilaquiles verdes with eggs. It came out crisp, and overall it was fine, just very mid. The verde sauce could've been brighter and more punchy, like that fresh, tangy, slightly spicy kick that makes verde chilaquiles pop. Price Most things on the menu were around $20, and it felt a little overpriced for what we got. Overall We both landed at a 4-star experience. I might go back, especially for that French toast. French toast yes, verde chilaquiles maybe. Next time I'd either go earlier or be ready to wait.

It was busy but there was room at the bar top so we sat there. He ordered the pulled pork sandwich that had Mac n cheese and onion straws in it. And garlic fries for the add. What a flavor bomb! The bread was toasty and the Manx n cheese paired nicely with the sweet and savory pork. The onion straws were perfect for texture. Very good very rich, we should've opted for slaw on the side, but the fries were delicious. I had the grilled cheese and homemade tomato basil bisque soup. That was so darn delicious! The soup is VERY mild in flavor but nice. The cheese to bread ratio was spot on, the bread was toasted perfectly. I ate it by both dipping in the soup and on their own. Served was very nice but she was busy! Great experience. Will return!

It wasn't too crowded and there was a lot of seating available. They have tables and booths around the restaurant as well as some seats at the bar. They had some sports games playing on the TVs at the bar and there was an ice cream bar at the front. The service was great. Everyone was quick and attentive and really nice. Since we made it for happy hour we were able to get some zucchini sticks for $5. They were crispy and delicious. Really flavorful and soft on the inside. I got the meatloaf Sam- which which was HUGE. My husband got the Tuesday special which was a smash burger with fries and a drink for $15.99. He got a margarita as his drink so he got a great deal. The burger was a little small but he ate the other half of my giant sandwich so it worked out. The meatloaf sandwich had a delicious crispy sourdough bread with a lot of melted cheese. I added some ranch as I thought it was a bit dry but overall it was good. It came with a big helping of fries as well and I got the garlic fries. They were very garlicky but so good with the ranch. My parents got the Cobb salad and the turkey pop pie. My mom didn't love the pop pie, I think because it wasn't really a pie- just a dish with biscuits on top but the Cobb salad was really hearty with a lot of toppings and it filled them up plenty. They ended up taking most of the pop pie to go. This place has a lot of great deals so make sure you check them out. I think Thursday's kids eat free so it can get a little crazy then but the menu is great as there is so much to choose from so everyone can get what they want!
