Very hole in the wall cafe in a complex with a lot of restaurants. They serve stumptown beans so the coffee is decent, but was a bit disappointed with the lack of basic knowledge of espresso. Specifically asked if they could do a single espresso and macchiato, since I noticed that they pull doubles and the portafilter is split into two channels. And also asked it for here. Received a piping hot cappuccino (not macchiato amount of steamed milk) in a 12oz paper cup to go... was a bit confused and I'm not the type to ask for a remake on most things and since this would require explaining the intricacies of a macchiato (barely any steamed milk, temperature cooler, served in a small cup) I just drank it and left. Was pretty decent and there's a lot of potential here since they aren't worrying about coffee quality and roasting since stumptown is pretty name brand and sufficient, but it would be great if they could hone in on the coffee aspect like training and knowledge. After looking at the yelp, this place seems like they want to primarily focus on food and snacks, while also having a decent coffee option. But it's weird to see that it's structured and looks like a coffee shop rather than a dining cafe. One thing that supports this is that Cash App doesn't recognize this place as a coffee shop, so there's no $1 off discount :-( It's a shame though, I would rather go here than solid if they knew how to do coffee. Solid coffee is really subpar and the next best options around (Stereoscope, Enchanted, Coffee Code) are really far from me. If they could get the coffee aspect down, I would seriously consider being a regular. It's small, low key, quiet, hidden, and has great potential, but they aren't there yet. Perhaps I'll stop by in a few weeks or months (they did mention they were new) to see how progress has been. read more

First time here and I love the overall aesthetic. I feel that in the new day an age decoration and aesthetic prove to be very important. I ordered a lavender tea with oat milk (which is delicious) and I am in love. I would also like to mention that not only does this place rate 10/10 on the gram factor but also provides a perfect place to quietly chat and study. I had a hot cafe mocha and my date had a Thai latte. It was a rainy day and just wanted to get warm after lunch. So we wandered in and as we ordered I thought coffee and some pastries right!?!? WTH, they ran out...fo shizzle??? Come on G!!! Ops sorry thought that was better than cursing. The place is clean and service was good nothing special but no pastry awe hockey puck that dude. WiFi is so slow. Took me 10 minutes to connect and when I finally did, nothing loaded. The place has only 6 people (not including myself), so no reason for connection to be that bad, right? Very disappointed with this place, not sure where the great reviews are coming from. Husband and I thought the coffee could've been better. Husband got a cold brew and said it tasted "old," granted we did come towards closing hour time. I ordered a iced vanilla latte, and it tasted just okay. Love this local spot that features great breakfast items and drinks! I don't have to drive to Silverlake for the good, hipster-trendy breakfast. It's right next door to me thanks to Roots Cafe. I tried their Churro Waffle, their lavender espresso latte and their banana pudding. I've had Churro Waffles at other restaurants but I would have to say Roots' ranks high among the ones I've tried. The waffle is crisp, all the condiments are on the side (syrup, ice cream, whipped cream) so you don't get a sugar overload, the ice cream is the BEST (Thrifty Ice Cream is the creme de la creme of ice cream) and you can add strawberries for 50 cents. The lavender latte wasn't sweet at all and balanced out my Churro Waffle dish. Also, the banana pudding rivals Magnolia Bakery's famous banana pudding. Happy to have a neighborhood cafe that features all the trendy items I would have had to drive out for! read more

Nice service, although a little slow. Chose a latte, but the tea selection was good as well. Loved my almond milk latte. Hot chocolate looked perfect, but I didnt taste it. Churro waffle was fantastic! Not too sweet, good size to share, strawberries, ice cream, and whipped cream, with cinnamon sugar on top. Waffle stayed crisp. I would definitely order again. The service at Roots was great, they offered a Yelp check-in special, and there are sufficient work spaces with electrical outlets. Oh, and free wifi. This means that you can definitely be here a while to do some work. They also had some music that was more age-appropriate for me playing the day I was there, so I did appreciate that. (That's the old man in me talking). Roots is located near the back most corner of a nondescript rectangular strip mall at the southwest corner of Bloomfield Avenue and South Street (perhaps the most well-known street in Cerritos), and is next to the Red Palace BBQ restaurant. Got that? The cafe itself is quaint and wasn't too busy when I visited for the first time a few weeks ago, but I can imagine that it can get busier during the school year, as Cerritos High School is only a block away. I did notice a steady stream of people coming in to get a morning jolt with some tea or lattes while working away on my laptop, and this was considering the fact that the place is relatively new and not exactly visible from the street. I feel word of mouth has made it out. If you do visit, I recommend their lavender milk tea (hot). I've only recently realized why lavender anything is a thing, and that it is actually helpful to mitigate stress, especially if you're trying to meet work deadlines (or trying to study for an exam). My only recommendation to the ownership is to have the tall seats cushioned and adjusted to fit the high tables, otherwise, the product is great, the staff is friendly and the place feels welcoming. And, if you see an older gentleman working away on a laptop on one of those high tables, be sure you say hi to me. read more

Roots Cafe in Cerritos is a cute and hidden gem! You can come in this place to study, catch up with a friend, and get something delicious while you're at it. I've been here several times and have not been disappointed. I've had the lavender latte, avocado toast, Churro waffle, and green tea waffle. My favorite thing on the menu is the green tea waffle, it's a nice treat topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The green tea waffle is not as sweet compared to the Churro waffle. I give this place 4 stars because they do get rushes which crowds the place and makes the cafe a little less enjoyable. Still, I highly recommend this place. read more

One of my go to cafes! I go to a lot of cafes, but this cafe is definitely the one that I've been going to the most. It's so cute and even though the prices are pretty reasonable, the setting of the place feels like home. I love the look of it and how you can quietly study there. Their coffee is pretty strong which I like because sometimes I need it to make me stay awake. Stopped by to grab my caffeine fix before going to the library. Went with the iced toffeenut latte with no regrets. The taste wasn't overwhelming and it was only lightly sweet, which was definitely what I was going for. Just what the neighborhood needed, especially in a busy plaza where I get my nails did whenever I'm in town! My fiancé and I got the green tea iced latte, cereal milk smoothie, and the matcha waffle and they were all superb. The matcha waffle is insanely delicious and the scoop of vanilla ice cream with condensed milk drizzle is something I could eat everyday. This cafe is cozy and has the space you need if you're studying/working on your laptop or if you're with your group of girls post-mani & pedi. I could also see myself coming here for a afternoon pick me up after eating kbbq next door (always feel sluggish after kbbq!). All in all, great location, great menu items and perfect space. The food is better than the drinks. We ordered the churro waffle that comes with vanilla ice cream and whip cream. It is served warm and crispy and it is big enough to share with two people. The food is great if you want a quick breakfast they are filling and the portions are decent sizes. Our drinks were okay, we ordered the slush and smoothie and it was thick all we tasted was the ice after drinking it for awhile. The flavor was decent, but it was thick that half way through the flavor lessened. If you love coffee and teas - I suggest this place, but if you prefer fruit smoothies and fruit flavored drinkers I would not recommend they do not have many options for those. Service was top-notch, employees were nice and greeted every guest with a smile Had a black house roast the first time and a nitro brewed coffee the 2nd time I was here, both did not disappoint.
