    Birthday dessert

Service was excellent! My server was from Bogota, Colombia (I think her name was Sofia?) and made sure I was happy with the experience. She recommended multiple items and I went with the octopus and truffle burrata and they were both great. The kitchen forgot to put the honey truffle so obviously there was no truffle flavor, so when I told her she came and brought the honey to drizzle on top. Then she brought me a birthday dessert since I told her it was my bday. The inside is romantic and cozy. You can sit outside, downstairs or upstairs. I bet entree items are also delicious but I didn't have more room in my belly!

From my previous experience, the flavors of the food at the steak room changed little. Everything was delicious - salad, bread, steak, and fries. Even the butter wasn't refrigerater cold this time. Offering was $37, only up $2 from my previous visit. However, everything around it proved disappointing. Only the fries were now bottomless; the salad and bread were not. What really killed this dinner was the service. I went at 10pm with the mutual understanding discussed with the server that the kitchen would close before 11 (their official closing hours). No problem, I could front load some fries. The service for most of the meal was acceptable. However, almost at the dot on 11, I could not find any wait staff to pay the bill. I saw BOH staff leave for 20 minutes without seeing a single server. I had to barge into the kitchen. Does this place not have protocol to check for diners finishing their meals during closing? The food flavors themselves warrant 4*. -1* for eliminating bottomless salad and bread. Having to hunt down wait staff like I'm at a neighborhood HK Style Cafe type restaurant actively pisses me off and makes me want to swear off this place and proactively prevent others from dining here.

Made a reservation for a Friday for the steak frites special. $37 for salad, steak and unlimited fries. We also got bread and butter. Everything was delicious and my steak was cooked perfectly. I loved the outdoor seating, especially on such a nice day and the service was great. We arrived around 6pm and it wasnt too busy. But id highly recommend making a reservation since it definitely was packed as the night went on.

Very nice French restaurant in Boston. We only went for drinks and dessert. The bartenders were helpful and friendly. I loved the atmosphere. The Creme brulee was ok. Not the best.

For the final day of my Boston trip I wanted to find a nice date spot for my lady and I, and I think we got it. The second floor ambience was exactly what I was hoping for, and the service was great as well. I had heard the french onion soup was incredible, and even though I don't care too much for it typically, I enjoyed theirs quite a bit! Not disappointed But what brought this from a 4 to 5 was the duck dinner entree. The duck was so tender and flavorful, the potatoes had a wonderful texture, and the plum sauce tied everything together beautifully. I would go back just for that.

Brunch was great! The bar area has a nice vibe and the service was good. The tuna nicoise salad was very flavorful but there were too many things in it (they could have left out the cucumbers and artichokes). Both the omelette and the eggs benedict were tasty and pretty big. I'd like to go back for dinner.

I stopped at Rochambeau on a trip to Boston after seeing multiple recommendations to eat there, and I completely understand why now. I do have to take off a star because of a scheduling issue, but rest assured, it has nothing to do with the food. All sites (including their own) stated dinner started at 4, but when I arrived at 4:20, I was told I needed to wait until 5 because they only had enough staff to handle a private event. I had a flight to catch and was on a schedule, so this was quite frustrating. I had a great experience once I was seated. I started with the baguette, and it was fantastic. It was crunchy and buttery, and the salted butter served with it was creamy and delightful. The dining area is beautifully decorated and contributed to the overall ambiance of the meal. The stars of the show were the wood-fired sirloin and frites. Many people had commented on the fries at Rochambeau, and they were right to do so. They were perfectly cooked, and the bernaise served with the steak was excellent for dipping. The steak was incredibly tender, and the herbed butter on top was delicious. Something to note that I found odd: fountain drinks do not come with free refills, and they are $4 each. Be mindful of this if you are thirsty! Overall, I loved Rochambeau, and it has been added to my list of regular spots when I am in town.

Came here for Sunday brunch a few weeks ago after seeing it on TikTok, and it was just as good as everyone said! The weather was perfect, so my husband and I sat outside before heading to the baseball game. We started with mimosas (they have an awesome bottle deal, but we just stuck to one this time). We got some fresh oysters to start- so good, east coast fresh! My husband had the steak and eggs, and I went for the duck confit hash. Everything was delicious and well made. Great food and a beautiful spot. Definitely coming back to try the dinner menu next time.

We decided to stop by based on a recommendation from a friend who said their Brioche French Toast is really good. Well they weren't wrong! I didn't order it but I had the pleasure of cleaning up a plate! The slices of toast are really thick but light and airy. I'm not a big fan of banana in my food unless it's banana bread but it was definitely good. It served as a really good dessert for me! I ordered the Duck Hash because I like duck and hash and to have them together seemed too good to be true! So the duck wasn't really all that tasty. It could have used a little more seasoning but it really lacked that duck flavor. The duck itself sat on top of the potato hash which itself was nice and light. The poached eggs were done perfectly and again the bread, was nice. I didn't taste the Salmon Avocado Toast but it was all gobbled up with nothing but crumbs left on the plate so I assume it was good! I also had a Bloody Mary and it was nice and spicy. Our server was nice and very good. He's from New York and recently moved to Boston. I think he'll do well with the food scene.

This is such a pretty spot. It is 2 floors. Sweet server. Everything was delicious! The French onion soup was my fave in Boston so far! It was cheesy, bread was delicious and broth was light but flavorful.

Honestly, one of the best meals I've had! We ate at the steak room and got the fixed menu. The fixed menu included bread and butter, salad and steak with French fries. The steak was cooked perfectly and the salad was sooo delicious despite it being just lettuce and dressing! The bread melted in your mouth and the burrata was sooo yummy. Would come back again!

I made this reservation about three weeks prior because I flew in town for my graduation and I was so excited to try it. I saw the octopus on the menu and I couldn't wait for some fresh octopus so close to the water. Well.. when I ordered the octopus the server informed me that they were out.. Instead, we ordered a dozen oysters, the Tuna Crudo, the Steak Tartare, Shrimp Cocktail and Salmon with Ceasars Salad. The oysters were delicious and fresh, very enjoyable. The Tuna Crudo was also fresh and it had really good flavor and the sour dough pn the side was a nice touch. The Shrimp Cocktail was simple but so so fresh that it was so delicious! Some of the best shrimp I've had yet. The Samon was seared perfectly that it was crispy without making the Salmon dry! And the Ceasar Salad was so fresh and dressed perfectly as well. After our meal, they brought out a swan ice cream dessert because we were celebrating and the server poured a chocolate sauce on it. It was okay but the bread was not good quality sometimes kind of got stale while eating it. And the Moltent Lava cake was pretty good, perfectly gooey in the center and very enjoyable. The inside of the restaurant was very beautiful and inviting with lots of ambient lighting. Overall, the food was pretty decent. I'm glad I got to try Rochambeau but I probably wouldn't come back.

I had a good brunch at Rochambeau. I ordered the veggie French Omelette, and it was good - I did need to season it a bit, but it was flavorful and the portion was generous. My friends also enjoyed the meals they got - my friend especially enjoyed her Eggs Benedict. As for the ambience, the place is absolutely stunning. It is so elegant, intimate, and has beautiful decor. It feels very chic and upscale without seeming stuffy. The service was good - the food came out quite quick. Overall, a good brunch experience!

I don't see escargot on the menu. Was planning to enjoy a traditional French lunch tomorrow. Do they not offer it?

Disappointing. My only negative Dine Out experience (in any city) and the most I've paid for lunch…read more- $36. I'm sure I would have had a much better lunch at one of the other participating French restaurants with lower priced menus. It's a shame because I loved Bistro du Midi the prior 2 times (not for Dine Out). 2 stars because 2/3 of the meal tasted alright (but not great), generous portions, and the location. Even at the very back of a completely packed downstairs, with the fully open front it was nice to see the Public Garden bridge posts and trees behind the cute patio. All of the staff were polite. However, overall service was slow, uncoordinated, and aggravatingly difficult to flag down. 3 people (not counting the hostess) came to my table before my assigned server finally introduced herself. Then 2 others came to refill water, serve, or take dishes. With 6 people providing service it was shockingly difficult to get any 1 person's attention. Literally nobody looked in my direction as they rushed by, and it took way too long for me to successfully wave down someone. I'd been hoping to get my check and pay 20 minutes earlier, which would have made it a reasonable 1 hour lunch for 1. I took photos just for a record, not because I loved the presentation: Cauliflower tartare: I was most excited to try this. It was indeed unique, but in a weird, not enjoyable way. I felt slightly queasy after eating it. It was too oily for truffle yogurt and cauliflower. The shriveled tomatoes tasted awful, and I normally like all kinds of tomatoes. The beet chips were the best part, and it wasn't even mentioned on the menu. Chicken Paillard: A huge piece of pounded thin, nicely breaded, pan-fried chicken with a mess of greens unattractively dumped on it (a very similar visual for the hanger steak next to me). I can't stand arugula, which also was missing on the menu. The frisée was also not appetizing. I would have asked for substitute greens but was already weary of trying to get attention from service and noticing the time slipping by. The chicken was tasty, including leftover for dinner, with the breading still fairly crisp. Chocolate & caramel torte: This had the potential to be 5/5 stars, or 4/5 if they simply repackaged the same elements. Desserts, especially French ones, should wow and delight. I saw a similar to my reaction from the table next to me when theirs finally arrived (after they wondered aloud where their tortes were). Their faces said: "oh... hmm... well, hope it tastes good at least." The first bite was a flop... visually and experientially: as soon as the spoon cut through the soft caramel mousse and hit the first layer of flourless chocolate sponge (which was more a thick fudge texture), it pushed the chocolate part out, making an ugly and uneven mess just trying to get the first spoonful all the way through. It would have been better to just have 1 layer of each instead of 2 each stacked. The caramel ice cream and taste of the other elements were good enough to take more than 1 bite but not "wow", and the packaging of it left much to be desired. It pains me to write this because previously I'd have said Bistro du Midi was a Boston area favorite. But I really regret this Dine Out meal, and I hope they take this feedback and others' to do better like I think they're capable of. I'm not sure I'd go back unless I picked the exact same dishes I got before (the Spanish octopus and 2 kinds of fish were standouts).

The interaction felt dismissive and unwelcoming. Whether intentional or not, it left us feeling like we were judged by our appearance rather than treated as paying customers. We arrived a little early and were escorted to a cozy lounge before being guided to our table, a corner spot right under the restaurant's big windows. From the moment you walk in, you can see how elegant it is, and yet it's not pretentious at all. I spotted people in sneakers and Birkenstocks alongside others who were dressed up which worked out since we'd spent the day sightseeing and were dressed a bit more casual. We started with the escargot, which was delicious, served out of the shell with toasted sourdough. The complimentary bread was also some of the best I've had and I'm not just saying that because it was free. The wine list was extensive but had something for every price range. We picked a delicious Bordeaux for just $80, which was less than I expected to pay at a restaurant of this caliber. My husband ordered the Cornish hen and I had the duck on a bed of risotto. Both were amazing, and the portions were huge. I ended up taking half my duck home which I really wasn't expecting. The duck was delicious but my husband's hen might have been just a bit better; it was so juicy. We also got a side of the horseradish mashed potatoes; divine. I went in expecting small plates and precious portions like most elevated French spots so this was a welcome surprise. We ended with the crème brûlée, it had the most perfect "glassy" top; might be the best I've had. The service was next level throughout. The reviews looked good and I was excited to try their unique menu... well, let's just say we were very disappointed. First of all the prices are very expensive. I know this is Boston, but $17 for a cocktail is ridiculous! Our server was lovely, he was very kind and had a kind spirit. I was excited to try the "Rouleaux" since they remind me of the eggrolls, my mother learned from her Vietnamese mother-in-law. It was very crispy, which unfortunately is the only good thing I can say about it. The flavor was so off. It's almost as if the ingredients in the Rouleaux were loudly competing for my attention simultaneously! It didn't really melt in your mouth either, it just felt heavy. The other appetizer we ordered was called Dumplings croustillants au poet epics. This was actually worse than first appetizer. I like lemongrass, but MAN the lemongrass was so overpowering. I started to wonder... "is this how it's always made"?! I'm not even exaggerating. Overall, the atmosphere was nice - definitely pricey, and the food isn't worth the hype. Till next eats, SJ

Plus, I like that it's further removed from the crazy foot traffic of Newbury Street. My favorites: 1. Duck confit appetizer. Beautifully crackly skin and tender meat, and the combo of fennel, cherry, pistachios all worked together well. If you're not feeling particularly hungry enough for an entree, this is a choice that won't leave you with that heaviness. 2. Potato wrapped halibut. I saw that it came on a bed of chowder (with the Manila clams neatly presented in their shells). The whole dish worked so well together, even though the fish was just a tad overcooked for my preference. Also tried the burrata and peach salad, which was very tasty. Our waiter was the standout, super knowledgeable about the menu, came by often to check how we were doing, quick to make recommendations for one of our friends who is gluten-free. Parking options are sparse in this area (your best bet is to check the street behind the Harvard Club for any open meter spots) but they do offer valet.

The good: Located on Comm Ave. where parking can be tough, but luckily we were able to pay for valet, which was so convenient. Upon walking in the restaurant is gorgeous from beautiful chandeliers, dim lights, to a fine dining atmosphere. They were running a little bit behind so we ended up going to the bar and ordered a few drinks. The bartenders were so friendly and attentive and would offer suggestions when needed. I ordered a glass of Champagne and my husband ordered a Beer. The great: Once seated our server greeted and asked if we wanted to do the wine pairing for an additional $135 per person. We passed but we're excited to order wines separately since their wine list is highly awarded by Wine Spectator. Above and Beyond: Since this was a 5-course tasting menu each dish came out perfectly prepared and we did not feel rushed at all. I also was able to try white truffles for the first time with an extra charge for the ravioli dish. The service was impeccable, highly attentive, well organized and kind. I think my favorite dish was the truffled sunchoke ravioli with white truffles. Also, the leather and exquisite seats are so comfortable. Think: you would probably see them in a high-end cigar bar. Overall: 10/10 Deuxave is not your typical go-to restaurant due to the pricey menu items but I would highly recommend coming here on a special occasion. A place to get dressed up and enjoy a spectacular evening and experience with a loved one. Cheers

I got inspired by watching youtube to make a jambon buerre sandwich - supposedly a popular quick sandwich for Parisians. The sandwich is half a baguette with butter and French bistro ham. I tried searching all over for the French bistro ham with no luck. The only options were online sources with expensive shipping and/or expensive minimum order sizes. Somehow I stumbled upon MA-France nearby in Arlington and they sell jambon-buerre sandwiches. It's a small shop that sells sandwiches, pastries, and a small offering of French food products. Lots of pastries and baked goods like quiche, tarts, cookies, croissants, etc. The cheese offerings were very limited and basic. I can imagine that the cheeses that they sell are the same types and brands that they use for making sandwiches. For example, they sell President brand Brie - that you can also buy at Costco and market basket. Disappointing, but understandable because they can't afford to buy more variety and more expensive offerings without a big enough client base to buy those cheeses before they go bad. Getting back to the sandwich - it was half a baguette with some thick slices of butter and two pieces of French bistro ham. The bread was kind of dense and the crust was more chewy than crispy. I was disappointed that they didn't bother to spread the butter, but if they're not selling enough sandwiches then they're probably keeping the butter in the refrigerator - making it too difficult to spread. When I got home I fixed up the sandwich to my liking. Overall, the sandwich was okay, but not good enough to make me want to go back. At least I was able to solve my hunger for the jambon buerre sandwich.

Now it's quite underwhelming. The apricot croissant is now some smaller glorified danish that has no richness or personality. The plain croissant is quite "bready" now, whereas it used to be light and buttery. I have a sneaking suspicion that they have a different croissant supplier now. What saved this spot from a lower grade is that the pain au raisin and chausson aux pommes are passable. Also a save is that they still offer various French products, from soaps to cheeses to canned goods. I have to find a new French bakery in the area.

We chose to sit outside; it was a chilly fall evening when we went last year, but we got some lap blankets which was a nice touch, so brownie points for service. My friend and I split the pastitsio (meat pasta dish), kotopoulo (a chicken dish), louza charcuterie, and tiropita (halloumi rolls). The rolls were stuffed with halloumi and were dense in the best way possible. Coupled with the louza charcuterie, the appetizers were a hit. The two entrees were small but mighty - they were packed with rich meats but also featured microgreens, herbs, and other tangy, bold flavors that really balanced the dishes. We got some glasses of Greek orange wine that I can't remember the name of but it paired excellently with the food per our waitress's recommendation. Overall, a solid Greek option if you're in Back Bay! But definitely make a reservation if you can.

There were very few redeeming aspects to the meal, and we left feeling both disrespected and unsatisfied as customers. The issues started right away. We ordered drinks--including a pear mocktail--but were brought the wrong ones, and then they attempted to charge us for those incorrect drinks. In hindsight, the cocktail mix-up should have been a warning of what was to come. The pear mocktail itself was also quite bad. The service felt chaotic throughout the night. We asked multiple times for additional servings of steak and fries, but were largely ignored. Meanwhile, nearby large tables were repeatedly served, cleared out entire trays, and still received more attention from staff. For an all-you-can-eat steak frites offering, we each received only one serving despite several requests. As for the food itself, it did not make up for the service. The steak was just okay--some pieces were chewy and overly fatty, though acceptable if refills had actually been provided. The fries, however, were terrible. Our first serving was so hard it was nearly inedible, and the only refill we received was just as bad. I also ordered the spinach risotto, which was slightly better than the steak, but it was so salty I couldn't finish it. Overall, this was a frustrating and disappointing experience. I would not recommend this restaurant and will not be returning.
