Jazz + brunch might just be the perfect combination. Rochambeau is a Parisian-inspired French brasserie in Boston's Back Bay, serving French classics with a modern twist. If you can, visit on a Sunday when they host live Jazz Brunch from 10 AM-3 PM! We started with the raw oysters and French onion soup, both absolutely worth ordering, before I had the steak & eggs for my entrée. And definitely save room for one of their unique desserts! Between the food, atmosphere and live jazz, this was one of those brunches that felt like an experience rather than just another meal.

Service was excellent! My server was from Bogota, Colombia (I think her name was Sofia?) and made sure I was happy with the experience. She recommended multiple items and I went with the octopus and truffle burrata and they were both great. The kitchen forgot to put the honey truffle so obviously there was no truffle flavor, so when I told her she came and brought the honey to drizzle on top. Then she brought me a birthday dessert since I told her it was my bday. The inside is romantic and cozy. You can sit outside, downstairs or upstairs. I bet entree items are also delicious but I didn't have more room in my belly!

From my previous experience, the flavors of the food at the steak room changed little. Everything was delicious - salad, bread, steak, and fries. Even the butter wasn't refrigerater cold this time. Offering was $37, only up $2 from my previous visit. However, everything around it proved disappointing. Only the fries were now bottomless; the salad and bread were not. What really killed this dinner was the service. I went at 10pm with the mutual understanding discussed with the server that the kitchen would close before 11 (their official closing hours). No problem, I could front load some fries. The service for most of the meal was acceptable. However, almost at the dot on 11, I could not find any wait staff to pay the bill. I saw BOH staff leave for 20 minutes without seeing a single server. I had to barge into the kitchen. Does this place not have protocol to check for diners finishing their meals during closing? The food flavors themselves warrant 4*. -1* for eliminating bottomless salad and bread. Having to hunt down wait staff like I'm at a neighborhood HK Style Cafe type restaurant actively pisses me off and makes me want to swear off this place and proactively prevent others from dining here.

Ordered escargots. Served hot & fabulous. They were plump & the buttery sauce was on point.

As a gluten free girlie this was 10/10 I went to the bar before and got a couple of drinks. My reservation was with the steak room. I got the oyster Rockefeller without the bread crumbs and they were AMAZING. I also did not know they had gluten free bread which was super kind. I got the Cesar no croutons. And the steak I got the peppercorn on the side. Great place for gluten free girlies.

Made a reservation for a Friday for the steak frites special. $37 for salad, steak and unlimited fries. We also got bread and butter. Everything was delicious and my steak was cooked perfectly. I loved the outdoor seating, especially on such a nice day and the service was great. We arrived around 6pm and it wasnt too busy. But id highly recommend making a reservation since it definitely was packed as the night went on.

This place is a must .... The food was so tasty let me start the bread was soft and crispy on the outside and the salad was delicious and I hate salads but this one was a win. I had the lemon berry pancakes and they wer delicious soft and amazing flavors. Also had the steak and fritz and this steak was the best steak I've had in Boston juicy with that amazing tast that u want and the whole thing was just cooked perfectly. Amazing place great views and decors and good clean place. Service was good guy wasn't as attentive as u would want in a nice place like this but the food towers over everything. STEAK STEAK STEAK STEAK... best steak in BOSTON...

Very nice French restaurant in Boston. We only went for drinks and dessert. The bartenders were helpful and friendly. I loved the atmosphere. The Creme brulee was ok. Not the best.

TOASTED BAGUETTE

I stopped at Rochambeau on a trip to Boston after seeing multiple recommendations to eat there, and I completely understand why now. I do have to take off a star because of a scheduling issue, but rest assured, it has nothing to do with the food. All sites (including their own) stated dinner started at 4, but when I arrived at 4:20, I was told I needed to wait until 5 because they only had enough staff to handle a private event. I had a flight to catch and was on a schedule, so this was quite frustrating. I had a great experience once I was seated. I started with the baguette, and it was fantastic. It was crunchy and buttery, and the salted butter served with it was creamy and delightful. The dining area is beautifully decorated and contributed to the overall ambiance of the meal. The stars of the show were the wood-fired sirloin and frites. Many people had commented on the fries at Rochambeau, and they were right to do so. They were perfectly cooked, and the bernaise served with the steak was excellent for dipping. The steak was incredibly tender, and the herbed butter on top was delicious. Something to note that I found odd: fountain drinks do not come with free refills, and they are $4 each. Be mindful of this if you are thirsty! Overall, I loved Rochambeau, and it has been added to my list of regular spots when I am in town.

French onion soup

For the final day of my Boston trip I wanted to find a nice date spot for my lady and I, and I think we got it. The second floor ambience was exactly what I was hoping for, and the service was great as well. I had heard the french onion soup was incredible, and even though I don't care too much for it typically, I enjoyed theirs quite a bit! Not disappointed But what brought this from a 4 to 5 was the duck dinner entree. The duck was so tender and flavorful, the potatoes had a wonderful texture, and the plum sauce tied everything together beautifully. I would go back just for that.

Veggie Omelette

Brunch was great! The bar area has a nice vibe and the service was good. The tuna nicoise salad was very flavorful but there were too many things in it (they could have left out the cucumbers and artichokes). Both the omelette and the eggs benedict were tasty and pretty big. I'd like to go back for dinner.

Came here for Sunday brunch a few weeks ago after seeing it on TikTok, and it was just as good as everyone said! The weather was perfect, so my husband and I sat outside before heading to the baseball game. We started with mimosas (they have an awesome bottle deal, but we just stuck to one this time). We got some fresh oysters to start- so good, east coast fresh! My husband had the steak and eggs, and I went for the duck confit hash. Everything was delicious and well made. Great food and a beautiful spot. Definitely coming back to try the dinner menu next time.

We decided to stop by based on a recommendation from a friend who said their Brioche French Toast is really good. Well they weren't wrong! I didn't order it but I had the pleasure of cleaning up a plate! The slices of toast are really thick but light and airy. I'm not a big fan of banana in my food unless it's banana bread but it was definitely good. It served as a really good dessert for me! I ordered the Duck Hash because I like duck and hash and to have them together seemed too good to be true! So the duck wasn't really all that tasty. It could have used a little more seasoning but it really lacked that duck flavor. The duck itself sat on top of the potato hash which itself was nice and light. The poached eggs were done perfectly and again the bread, was nice. I didn't taste the Salmon Avocado Toast but it was all gobbled up with nothing but crumbs left on the plate so I assume it was good! I also had a Bloody Mary and it was nice and spicy. Our server was nice and very good. He's from New York and recently moved to Boston. I think he'll do well with the food scene.

I don't see escargot on the menu. Was planning to enjoy a traditional French lunch tomorrow. Do they not offer it?

Moving on to the food: at traditional restaurants, dishes are often brought out at different times, and being a high-end spot, this place followed suit. However, the waiter should've picked up on some context clues--it was 8:45, we had been seated since 8:00, and we still only had the salad. I ordered the steak frites (not sure of its exact name on the menu), and it was great, I'd definitely recommend it. That said, the medium rare came out looking a bit overcooked, though every kitchen does it differently. The frites are typically thin and crispy, but these were thick and a little soggy. The other dishes at the table were solid, nothing to complain about. One thing that did stand out, though, was the bathroom, it clearly needed attention. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned, which is not something I'd expect from a restaurant of this caliber.

The mushrooms on toast was so salty it was inedible as if it had been salted twice. Upon letting the waiter know the chicken was tough, instead of acknowledging and apologizing, he looked quizzically at us. He ultimately offered to make a new chicken but upon dropping off the new chicken, he did so without asking if the chicken was better the 2nd time around, until it was almost 3/4 eaten. However the water service was frequently refilled but that was the only highlight of the service. It was not busy so I don't think that could account for the missteps in service or food. Upon leaving, we shared the feedback with the front desk team and were offered the business card of the manager for the "next time we came by". Another manager asked for more details and apologized but didn't offer to address the issue any further.

Seated immediately and surprised with a customized menu for the birthday girl. We ordered a pile of appetizers: tuna sashimi, truffle fries, mussels, escargot, and pate. The tuna sashimi is as good as it gets. Many years ago it was the first place we had something like it and it remains the standard bearer. Entrees were the tenderloin, sirloin and the duck. The duck and mushroom risotto are incredible. Didn't try the sirloin or the tenderloin but there was nothing left for me to try! We shared the chocolate torte and it was like hungry hungry hippos until the plate was a frothy mess. Have been many times and they tend to rush you. If you're not feeling particularly hungry enough for an entree, this is a choice that won't leave you with that heaviness. 2. Potato wrapped halibut. I saw that it came on a bed of chowder (with the Manila clams neatly presented in their shells). The service became the best part of my lunch, aside from the ambience. The soup came out rather quickly. Not the best French Onion Soup, but not the worst. Flavor was underwhelming and there was too much cheese and croutons for my liking. It wasn't much of a soup, since there was more filling than liquid. The Steak Frites (upgraded to truffle fries) was a disappointment. For $30, you get about 6 bite size pieces of steak, some greens and a handful of fries. The steak was hard to chew and bland, just wasn't great overall. The fries were on the soggier side and lacked the truffle flavor as well. In conclusion, the food was lacking and not good. The ambience, on the other hand was nothing short of incredible. When you first walk in, you are welcomed with the beautiful bar. There's a good amount of natural lighting in the front and back of the restaurant, so it's not too dark like most other French restaurants. Wall designs and the maroon seating are fitting and I think the overall design is gorgeous. Tiropita Rolls: Very straightforwardly delicious. The bread was warm, soft, and airy, with a rich aroma of butter and cheese; the spread was a rich blend of honey butter, and olives, sweet and delicious, perfect as an appetizer. Tzatziki: A slight disappointment. The cucumber and Greek yogurt spread was surprisingly heavy, a bit cloying, and the pickled kumquats weren't as sweet as I expected, but rather had a slightly bitter taste. The pita bread was thick and soft, probably better suited for dipping in soup--like Bourdeto--than for the spread. Bourdeto: The tomato fish soup was a pleasant surprise. The freshly caught grouper of the day was thick and tender, lightly seared to create a crispy crust. The broth was a vibrant, tangy tomato base, with onions, fennels, and red peppers contributing a sweet, layered flavor. Trahanas, fermented wheat and dairy, added richness and a smooth texture to the soup. The broth also had a slight spiciness, making it incredibly comforting on a chilly autumn day. Portokalopita: The dessert that elevated the entire meal. A traditional Greek orange phyllo, the cake, made from crumbs of phyllo pastry, becomes incredibly soft and moist after being soaked in orange syrup. Every bite was bursting with rich orange sweetness and fragrance, followed by a slightly bitter orange zest--perfectly balanced. Paired with Manouri cheese ice cream, the creamy flavor was incredibly rich and creamy, creating a harmonious and layered flavor profile.
