What an abysmal experience. Whoever owns/manages this establishment should be embarrassed. Potential customers: It might be tempting to dimiss the bad reviews for this place as one off unlucky experience...I certainly did it and really wished I hadn't done it. Some highlights of our trainwreck- No one came to our table 30 mins after everyone has sat down. Not even to bring water. We had to wave someone down. Another slow 30 mins later, the first round of drinks arrived... Music chair moment - Out of the 6 people getting drinks, 1 didn't get one. Bait and switch/ illusion egg white - the Madame Lavande I ordered promised egg whites in the ingredients. The drink I was served had absolutely no indication of such. When I asked the waiter, he explained the drink only suppose to have "0.2 ounce" of egg white and shouldn't be noticeable. Huh? Let's all put whatever ingredients on a menu and when a customer asks, just say "it's not suppose to be noticeable." We switched to champagne to accompamy our oysters, except the champagne was nowhere to be seen so the oysters patiently waited to be eaten for about 10 minutes. When the champagne finally came, our waiter poured it outside of the glass and didn't bother wiping it up. The waiter also magically refilled the glass for sparkling water with still water. Plates for appetizers were not cleared till almost the main course. When the entrées finally arrived, the accompanied wine was again nowhere to be seen. Our steak, duck and chicken also waited patiently to be eaten. Worked out that the wine was late! One of the steaks was so overcooked anyways that it had to be sent back. By the time a new steak was served, it timed nicely with the arrival of the wine. Out of the 6 people who ordered wine, only 5 got glasses. The duck was fine but the accompanied cabbages were soaked in butter and the apples were just a few slices on top. For a $30+ dish, you would think they would've at least done something with the apples instead of throwing them on top without any work done. At this point, we complained to a different staff who asked how things were going. She apologized and promised us free desserts. Here is the catch - without us getting to choose the selections. The dessert came without serving plates or utensils. After we asked, out of the 6 people getting desserts, one didn't get utensils. This music chair game is getting old...esp 3 hours later. Congrats to those of you who made it to the end with us! Morale of the story: avoid this messed up circus of a restaurant. read more

Solid restaurant with a nice vibe and reasonable food options. Good location next to the Pru, and certainly much livelier than its predecessor, Towne. The night we went, it was certainly a hotspot. Finance bros and tech bros and gals filled the place, and we could not get a seat at the bar. Ended up going to Eataly next door to wait until our table became available. Had the large charcuterie plate to share and the Rochamburger. Both were decent quality, but it ended up being too much processed meat for me in the end. The burger is tasty, but very heavy handed on the seasoning. Service was pleasant. A bit slow, but luckily we were not in a rush. read more

I've been here twice in the last few months. First time we got just a cheese board and drinks. The cheese board was one of the worst I've ever had. Very overpriced for what you got and one of meats was absolutely disgusting. A French place NEEDS a good cheese board. Come on. Second visit we tried the restaurant week menu. The oysters were weirdly fishy, not great at all and came with a side of home fries? They were actually the best thing I had all night but such a strange choice. Next I had the salmon which was very undercooked and nothing special. The decor is gorgeous, the drinks are pretty good but I have not been impressed with the food unfortunately. I'll be generous and give Rochambeau four stars for now with the caveat that the place has just opened. Located in the old Towne space on Bolyston Street, the exterior is sleek with a cool analog clock on the side of the building and nice signage. We had made a reservation for 5 as my friend had to get to another event at 7. I arrived about ten minutes early for the reservation and while I was greeted nicely by the staff at the front, I was told that the restaurant was not open yet and was asked to sit at the bar. I asked to use the bathroom instead as it was a super windy day outside and my hair had got completely messed up outside. When I went into the bathroom, it was very dark, like hard to see dark and when I asked another lady in the bathroom if there was a light switch she told me the lights were centrally controlled and not turned on yet. Weird. Maybe they should program these to turn on a little earlier? I was pleased that there were hooks to hang your coat and bag in the stalls, but disappointed that there was no counter or area where you could put your bag down and brush your hair and do your make up. I basically had to balance my purse on the sink. Thankfully, they don't have automatic faucets. I'd definitely recommend that they install some counters or an area where you can fix your hair and make-up, especially as I am sure a lot of people are coming here after work and might want to pretty themselves up for the night. For a cocktail before the meal, I ordered the Cancan Dancer. While it had a nice apple cider flavor, it was too heavy on ice and too low on alcohol. For $13, you can do better! The complimentary bread was really nice- a small baguette served with mustard and cornichons in a cute little jar. We started with the French onion soup. This was a good sized portion, very cheesy and flavorful. I'd definitely recommend this and would get this again. For the entree, I had the Rochamburger, which was served on a brioche bun with mushrooms and raclette cheese. This was great and I'd totally get it again as well. The accompanying fries were nothing exceptional but certainly not bad. I was hoping for something a little more exciting from the fries- maybe some truffle oil or cheese could liven them up. The house wine, $9, was okay but nothing that great. We were too full for dessert but the profiteroles sounded amazing. Service was very good considering it's a new place. I love how they do the water service, providing a full bottle for the table. They were also very good about refilling the water. My only complaint service wise was that they seemed to rush us a little to finish the soup to serve the main dishes. We sat in a booth in the first floor. The atmosphere is typical brasserie style and low lit. I thought the dance music that started playing shortly in to our meal was a little out of character with the place and slightly too loud, especially given the ambient noise from the bar area. I was expecting more mellow, possibly French music. Highlights: Bottle of water for the table Complimentary baguette and cornichons French Onion Soup Burger Service Lowlights: Literally low light in the bathroom No place to put your bag to fix your hair and makeup Cancan dancer cocktail Fries Weird, loud dance music I'd definitely come back for the soup and the burger and would love to try their profiteroles. Came here for dinner on a Tuesday around 8. No reservation, seated immediately by a kind host. Nice, neutral decor and appropriately dim lighting. Music was good, interesting even, but not too loud or distracting. Ordered the duck breast, came out in about 15 minutes. Duck was perfect temperature and the first bite was incredible. Subtle sweetness from the sauce, deep duck flavor paired great, but was a little one-note by the end. Vegetables on the side were good too. Would order it again for sure. I gave this place three stars because the food was meh. I was so excited to try this place... it was the first place I chose to have dinner at, for our Boston trip. The reason I chose it was because they had pictures here on yelp of a lobster dish with French fries but when I got here they said they had removed it from the menu and weeks ago :( My boyfriend and I split the French onion soup. If you know me (people on yelp probably don't but..) you'd know that I really love French onion soup. This soup was bland, thick and coated your mouth with oil. If it weren't for the cheese it would have no taste. The baguette we got was stale and the scallop carbonara was also bland. It has finally opened, well at least the cafe. Stopped in yesterday for a free cup of cold brew which was very good. Staff is obviously learning but with a smile which is all you can ask for. Came here for brunch before shopping around Boston and really enjoyed rochambeau! We were sat in the upstairs dining room and enjoyed coffee and tea. I ordered the steak frites and not only is it covered in garlic butter, but it also comes with bernaise sauce. It was one of the best steak frite dishes I have ever tried! I went to Rochambeau last night for the first time in a while. I ordered the half chicken, flat bread and profiteroles. Pros: - you can tell they use great ingredients. Nothing feels oily, heavy or skimped on which is so important - the food was cooked perfectly - the ambience and staff there are remarkable. They are patient and don't rush like typical restaurants in America do. -the location is wonderful. Cons: -the prices are on the higher side which makes sense due to the location and quality of food/experience -they don't validate parking. I think this would be a small change the restaurant could work on through a deal with the prudential parking garage Overall would recommend coming here. Loved it!! read more

Food was alright but nothing surprising - very much fusion French, definitely not real French if you're looking for an authentic meal. The best part was probably their baguette which came in a paper bag and condiments incl butter, mustard and pickles. The Friday monkfish special was alright but had a bit too much on the plate. Our table of 7 was brought a group check, and when we asked to break into individual checks it took *30-40 minutes* for them to split the check, take our cards, and complete the payment. I've been to Rochambeau a few times now, and my second visit was a week after the first. It's become my partner and I's tradition to pop in for oysters, escargot, and a glass of wine any time we're in the area. We've also added the charred octopus to our list, which is phenomenal. Texture was the opposite of rubbery, and the tomato sauce had some incredible, unexpected nuts that absolutely made it. I usually get the house red/white, but they they were out last time we were there, and my partner very impressed with the wine recommendation they gave in its place. The space is exquisite. There is a large upstairs with high ceilings, a dark and moody ground floor, and a spacious patio with heat lamps. Indoors can get a bit loud during busy hours, but the seating, even indoors, is very comfortably distanced. Service has been phenomenal every time. Our servers have been friendly, diligent, and the opposite of jaded. This is the restaurant you want to (and can!) keep revisiting. This is the restaurant you want the staff to get to know you as a regular. It is unpretentious, hospitable, intimate, and consistent. One of my favorite places in Boston. read more

Such a cute place and great ambience! A very summery and vacation vibe, with wicker chairs and lovely blue decor and plants everywhere. The food was very good- I loved the escargot and my family loved their chicken sandwiches, pasta bolognese and other dishes! The service was excellent and pleasant without being over the top. Desserts were fun and yummy. The creme brûlée had an interesting cookie crust that was unconventional but delicious! All in all a lovely experience that I'd love to repeat. read more

Walked in and was digging the vibe. Dark and romantic! We were sat down with drink menus, but no actual menu or anyone to help us. The manager stepped in, provided menus and drinks. She was lovely! I thought she was our waitress, but she wasn't. Our actual waitress was aloof, maybe her boyfriend broke up with her... who knows ‍ hopefully she's all right. Food came, the pasta was incredible! However, the chicken came out dry and under-seasoned. The waitress arrived asking how things were as we received our plates, we responded, we will see. Great spot in a very touristy area. Food was a 6/7 out of 10... I started with the French onion soup which was great! My boyfriend had the tarte flambé which was also good. Our entries were good, the mushrooms on the side were not good at all though.. service was attentive but not professional... waiter regularly came to check on us and did not pour our wine or water. Also, they hang random people's jackets on the side of our booth and every time people walk by they hit me with the jackets. Soooo no annoying. I found out after they had a coat check and never offered. I prefer to not be whacked with random people's coats while I eat. Great ambiance and good date spot! What a cool and funky place this is! Didn't know what to expect but when all is said and done, I felt like I was (kinda, sorta) in a Parisian bar circa 1865. It was a busy Sunday afternoon and the place was hopping. I was happy to a part of hustle and bustle. The people watching was extraordinary and the food was better than good. I had a Croque Madam with les pomme de terre frites and they both were c'est délicieux. The service, considering the hustle and bustle, was actually pretty good, much better than I expected. Such a great date place! They recently took over their event space for more tables during COVID and the views are amazing through the huge glass windows! The service is excellent as expected. Although the bread is extra, it is totally worth it! It is fresh baguette and has a perfectly crunchy texture on the outside. When we were seated, the gentleman filling the water glasses spontaneously noticed that the table wobbled and immediately got something to correct the issue without us needing to ask. Everything we ordered was excellent. The cocktails were great. Our server Juan made excellent recommendations and was the perfect amount of attentive; no more present than was helpful. Couldn't be more pleased with the choice. By disposition, I am both picky and critical; it was so refreshing to have no complaints. Tried on a Tuesday night. The restaurant was not crowded. Food was great: the foie-gras and the beef tartare tasted amazing, the fillet was extremely tender, cooked to perfection... and the sauce was unbelievable! The cocktail didn't impress me but the Bordeaux was delicious. Service was good, very friendly and reasonably attentive. Atmosphere is really amazing: loved the decoration and the overall look. First time here and I had made a reservation ahead of time and we were seated immediately. The ambience was pleasant and the decor cute. We were seated in a round booth though and it almost looked like we were in a diner. We ordered our drinks, appetizers, and entrees all at the same time but all of our appetizers came out before the drinks. Our waitress apologized for the hold up but our drinks didn't even come out until we had finished the appetizers. The Fraise 75 was fairly alcoholic but still sweet. My friend ordered La Belle though and she said it tasted like watered down sprite. Someone else ordered the sangria and she said it wasn't until she was halfway through the drink that it became sweet, as if they did not stir it properly. To top it off, the water the placed out our table had a piece of paper floating at the bottom of it. We ordered the octopus, scallops, and tarte flambee, all of which were nothing outstanding and the portions were quite small for the price. They only gave 3 scallops and it would have been helpful if our waitress told us when we ordered so we could at least have ordered two. For entrees, we had the Coq au Vin and Atlantic Fluke Grenoboise. Honestly, the Coq au Vin tasted like thanksgiving turkey with some gravy (note that it consisted solely of one small chicken leg) but maybe I just don't know what coq au vin should taste like. The fish was a little better (also quite small) but it was perfectly cooked and the rice mix was very flavorful, albeit very oily. One plus is that the service was good and our waitress was very kind, checking up on us throughout the evening. Overall though, this experience was underwhelming - we were hoping for a unique night out but the steep prices and average food just didn't do it. read more

We also got the French onion soup which was delicious. The steak room is beautiful and makes the whole experience amazing. The salad was very good and refreshing after are soup, the bread came out warm with butter and was also delicious. I got my steak rare because it is a skirt steak, so I was expecting it to possibly be a little overcooked, but it was cooked to perfection. The steak sauce and fries were also delicious.
