We had one person who could not eat pork, and the server was very helpful in answering questions we had and offering potential workarounds. A note that the carbonara was a little on the salty side, which might not be enjoyable to everyone! The restaurant has a cohesive vibe to it, is understandably popular and has a little bit of a wait time before being seated if you walk in without a reservation. I stayed with a friend in Brooklyn and she took me here for some pies! Being from the Chicago area, I know all about good pizza. The only other region that does pizza well is the east coast. I am a big fan of wood fire pizza and Roberta's does not disappoint! My friend is recently gluten free (health reasons!) so she got the Little Gem salad, no breadcrumbs. She seemed underwhelmed by her $17 plain salad. My other friend and I split a couple of pizzas. We went with the Lil Stinker and the Bee Sting. We both loved the bee sting-the soppresseta is delicioso. The best thing about the lil stinker is it's name. It's got a fun kick, but the combination of onions, garlic, and pepperonchini is overwhelming. Maybe there is just too much of each ingredient. Our server was really friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. He did suggest two pizzas for us, which was a lot for two people. Unless you're starving, one pizza is plenty for two people. When we decided to visit New York, I told Nate that I only wanted to eat like two slices of pizza while in town. Well, that was silly, because we ended up eating at least double that. It's true, New York has lots of pizza places. We stopped by Roberta's with some friends and hung out in their tiki tent while waiting for a table, which was pretty cozy and they had a fire going outside in late November. Once we were called in, we were seated at a cozy communal table and ordered several pizzas, including the famous bee sting, white guy, and the Vladimir Puttanesca. We also started with the 'nduja stracciatella, which was delicious - super rich, creamy, and with perfectly toasted bread, it was a great share plate for the five of us. The pizzas were delicious and wood-fired, thin crust, aka my favorite type of pizza. My least favorite was definitely the Vladimir - it just had a weird flavor I couldn't place. Iconic pizza joint in NYC, with this location being the OG. I think it's definitely worth a visit! Walked in on a Saturday evening with four people around 7:30pm. Was told the wait would be 45 minutes and it actually went by much faster. We probably got seated in 25 minutes. Fyi: There's a very casual little tiki bar right next door you can hang in while you wait. You can also eat take out from Roberta's there too. Ambiance is very casual. Service was amazing! Our server actually comped our pasta because it came out a bit later then the rest of the food. Totally unnecessary of her, but very thoughtful! We ordered the below and it was the perfect amount of food for four: -Marinated Cucumbers: light and fresh. If I could only pick one green, I'd opt for the salad instead though. -Little Gem Salad: pretty basic, but this was really refreshing and the lettuce was so crisp. Good balance to the pizza. -Bucatini Cacio E Pepe: so good. Standard cacio e pepe, but the noodles were perfectly al dente. Super cheesy and peppery. The portion is somewhat small, but it was fine to share with all the pizzas too. -Bee Sting: delicious. Reminds me of the Hell Boy from Paulie Gees. I've always heard amazing things about Robertas, since even before the pandemic to be honest, but I'd never once been inside. So cool actually cool and delicious food and craft cocktails. We all shared the Bee Sting Pizza and got individual pasta dishes. My Carbonara tasted more like Cacio Pepe, there were literally only 2 pieces of Guanciale...... It was still delicious. The ambiance was really nice server was attentive but not pushy. I had not been in the Bushwick area of Brooklyn in decades. Once upon a time I just knew it as the area to avoid if you didn't want trouble. Nowadays the area still retains some of its more down to Earth feel, but it is also home to a number of well reviewed eateries. When meeting a friend for lunch recently I searched Yelp and I found Roberta's as a suggestion. Trusting in my fellow Yelpers, I went for it. Roberta's really encapsulates the feel of the neighborhood. Huge painted murals decorate the side of the building and restaurant with an emphasis on pizza (and animals). One entrance leads to a take-out area while another leads to the actual restaurant. Chunks of the restaurant appear to be made out of metal containers, wood panels and so on. The interior has dark lighting with string lights and the decor has a rather retro vibe. It feels almost like a structure from some post-apocalyptic movie or video game, but I'm saying this as a GOOD thing. This place has character and I loved the feel of it. Seating inside is mostly long benches so it has a communal feel. I wound up sitting at the end of a bench with my friend. Here's where I get to why I'm not giving this place a full five stars, and I admit another visit may be warranted before I make a final decision. The service was rather uneven. It *started* great with a host seating us immediately despite not having reservations and a waitress taking our drink orders quickly. However, soon she would wind up taking the order of the party that came after us before us (a pet peeve of mine). Later we seemingly got passed on to another waitress who was absolutely confounded when I asked for a glass of ice (my ice had melted and it was warm that day). I did eventually get the ice from a *third* server about ten minutes later. I have no idea why such a simple request was so complex. I will say this, our food came fast and I was very impressed with the speed of the service. We ordered a Rosso pizza (tomato, garlic, oregano, extra virgin olive oil) with pepperoni and an order of the Smoked Heritage Ribs (house dry rub, togarashi, honey and lime zest). The pizza was fantastic. Beautifully done crust cooked *just* right with a crisp at the edges and a nice chew in the middle. The sauce, cheese and pepperoni were wonderfully savory and sweet. I was very impressed! I was equally happy with the ribs, which were wonderfully seasoned and the meat fell right off the bone. I wanted another order immediately (but held back). Roberta's is an NYC institution, widely recognized for making some of the best wood fired pizza in the world. They opened in Bushwick in 2008, way before the neighborhood was cool. Since then they have expanded within NYC, and even have an LA location, which I have yet to visit. I wanted to try the original location first. My husband and I placed a delivery order, which arrived quickly. But, since it delivered via bicycle, the pizza was cold on arrival. This would normally be no matter, but we were staying in a hotel. Cold pizza is still good pizza, but both the Famous Original and Bee Sting left us underwhelmed. The crust was so thin and floppy that it fell apart upon being picked up. It could not support the weight of the toppings. The sauces were tasty, but there needed to be twice as much of them; the overall vibe was somehow dry and soggy at the same time. The star of the meal, surprisingly, were their Brownies, which come in a pack of 3. The perfect middle ground between fudgey and cakey, and topped with flaky sea salt, these were the best brownies I've had in my life. So we were in the hood this Saturday night 9/24/22 @ about 10:15 pm rolled up to this funky pizza spot ..... all the walls are canvassed with graffiti it seems to be the thing over here in this hood ... Both pies were very good; however they dust their pizza dough balls way too much with flour both pies were like chalky to taste our lips had flour dust on them ... Their sauce is excellent and their cheese & sausage were definitely high end ... Parking is definitely a challenge over here between the residential & bars & restaurants but we parked at the fire hydrant ... I stayed in the car after all I worked all day ... lol !!! The wifey said the place was very clean & the service counter people mostly kids were very friendly ... The wifey & daughter said there is a guy in there that looks like Justin Bieber.... And the award for the best pizza with hot honey goes to... *drumroll* Roberta's! I was surprised that there was no wait on a Saturday during lunch time but I'm assuming it gets busier at dinner hours. My partner and I were immediately seated and we ordered the bee sting pizza, the classic margherita pizza, the white guy pizza, the marinated cucumber salad, and an iced tea. I'm not exaggerating when I say the bee sting pizza left me speechless. One bite was all it took for me to fall in love and for the whole duration of lunch I was singing praises to the pizza in front of me. The downfall of a lot of establishments who try honey on pizza is that the honey makes the pizza soggy as the crust absorbs the the honey. Roberta's doesn't have this problem as their crust is perfectly thin and crispy with the power to withstand the moisture of the honey. The flavor is also an amazing combination of sweet and savory deliciousness that is unrivaled by many pizzas (maybe other than Lucali). When your first bite of pizza is the bee sting pizza, it is hard to compete with a classic margherita pizza or a white pizza but both pizzas held their own. The margherita pizza is fresh, well executed, and should be a standard for what all classic margherita pizzas should taste like. The white guy pizza is just as flavorful. All the pizzas aren't very greasy which makes it easy to have multiple slices. The marinated cucumber salad is a refreshing relief to the carb heavy pizzas that were being devoured at lightning speed. The marinated cucumbers were tasty and fragrant from the fresh herbs. Lastly, the iced tea helped wash everything down. To top off our experience, the service was friendly and efficient. The waitress let us occupy two tables to serve all our food. She also checked in a few times and made sure our water glasses were filled during our visit. Amazing service and amazing pizza is not easy to find. And if you do find both you'll have to sacrifice at least an hour to get into the pizzeria. One of the best thin crust, brick oven pizza places in NYC! Made a reservation for 5 and was seated promptly in the patio (good lighting, perfect for my pictures!) otherwise the rest of the restaurant is pretty dimly lit. My favorite is the Beastmaster. Not sure how they do it but the flavors work out so well. It's about 12" so more like a personal pizza because it's so thin. If you like sweets, I'd recommend the sticky bun! Only downside is that it's pretty deep into Brooklyn, so be ready for a trek if you're not from the area! We drove there and was able to find parking around the corner. read more

Probably another review that the internet doesn't need- I'm just piling on here to say that no, Roberta's doesn't disappoint, and yes, it's worth the hype and everything your friends said it would be. It's delicious enough that it feels upscale for a special occasion but casual enough for an everyday lunch or hangout. The service was prompt and attentive - I felt very well cared for and was impressed that multiple people checked on us throughout the meal. If you like Caesar salads, the little gem salad is a simple Caesar riff executed to perfection. I literally ate the whole bowl myself. The crisp leaves, the rich umami dressing, the cheese grated so finely it melts in your mouth, the salty crunchy breadcrumbs?! One of the best salads I've had in a while. I love a white pie and this one was a perfect example of why. The crust here is so well done - light, chewy, airy yet structured. Makes you think you could eat like 4 pizzas. Delicious, but expensive pie. That is all. What, did you seriously think that was all I was going to write? This is the original location, right in Bushwick, and this gem of a restaurant exemplifies that true to form. From the wooden tables, to the loud music, to the personalities of the wait staff (more on that later), you get a taste of this northern Brooklyn neighborhood without even having to go too far off of the L train. When I got there, I was pretty torn between which pie to get (no slices here folks!), as the Bee Sting and the Margherita each sounded great. I ultimately went with the Bee Sting as it did not fully compromise my principles, but gave way to something different from what I have been doing already. The pizza arrives fast and it looks beautiful. It is cooked in a wood fired oven at a ripping hot temperature, allowing for a faster cooking time. It works kind of like a Neapolitan pizza, and the crust has that similar taste and texture. Everything else on it, the spicy honey, the soppressata, follows suit in amazing fashion. It is a shame that I was still hungry after eating this, because this was an absolutely delicious pie, despite being $23 (before tip). Now before I close, I would also like to take a minute to talk about the amazing service I received. I do not know if this was by design, since I was a solo diner, but my server, Ilene, was absolutely spectacular. Not only is she very attractive, she is also very bubbly and pulled out every stop to ensure that I was taken care of properly. She is genuine and clearly wants to see her customers smiling and having a great time. Even after I was done eating, she continued to talk to me about almost everything, and considering the week I just had, I was happy she was interested in what I had to say and not just being that typical server looking for a handsome tip. So while this is not the cheapest ticket in town, this was a great experience that I feel grateful to have partaken in. What is there to say that lots of others have not already said? Roberta's has incredible Neopolitan pizza (big difference from Neapolitan as it has a crunchy crust), and an amazing little tiki bar that makes delicious frozen cocktails. If this joint was closer by I feel like I'd go at least once per week. If you like neopolitan style pizza, this is one of the best places to get it in the city. My personal top 3 for this style (so far) goes Razza, Roberta's, and Fornino's on pier 6, so it's among stellar company. The tiki bar and loungy seating are just an awesome cherry on top, really captures the hip feel of bushwick / East Williamsburg. Overall it gets a very high recommendation from me! read more

Roberta's is a New American restaurant and pizzeria that opened in Brooklyn, New York in January 2008. It was founded by business partners Chris Parachini, Brandon Hoy, and Carlo Mirarchi. The idea for the pizzeria was conceived in 2006 when Parachini and Hoy were both having pizza at Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana in New Haven, Connecticut. Mirarchi decided to invest in the concept and initially came on board as both a partner and head chef. Their friend Mauro Soggiu (who would later become a partner himself) put them in touch with someone in Italy looking to sell a wood-fired pizza oven for cheap. The partners opened the pizzeria in the Bushwick neighborhood and Parachini named it after his mother. Slowly but surely, the popularity of Roberta's grew by word-of-mouth. Customers often remark that Roberta's didn't just bring great pizza to Bushwick... it also made the neighborhood a desirable place to visit. Those delicious wood-fired artisanal pies eventually earned Roberta's two Michelin stars. In addition to the flagship location in Bushwick, additional full-service locations opened in Brooklyn's Domino Park, Montauk (Long Island), and Culver City (California). There are also seven pop-up locations around the world. As of 2015, Parachini is no longer a partner. I recently visited Roberta's while I was cycling around NYC with a cycling buddy of mine. We stopped by in the afternoon and the place wasn't too busy. The kitchen crew was working really hard. An old Orthodox Jewish man named Yankel stops by often to deliver pallets of freshly chopped wood for the oven. After looking over the menu, my friend and I decided to order and split the "Bee Sting" (Tomato, Mozzarella, Soppressata, Basil, Chili, Honey). This combo is becoming popular at several artisanal pizzerias and Roberta's version was excellent; very flavorful and excellent crust! Roberta's also has an excellent craft beer selection. Tried placing an order over the phone but waited 20 minutes each time I called before it went to voicemail. When I arrived to the location, there was only one front person who was in charge of taking orders, completing the transaction, and boxing the pizzas. Perhaps someone didn't show up for their shift and there was one person down for the morning. Will take it as a blip and hopefully, the next time I drop by their service will be more efficient. Things have changed now the staff are not properly trained and extremely immature. we were seated immediately, but it took them over 10 minutes to get us some water and another five minutes before someone gave us menus. Not a great combination but individually both were great. Service is pretty good. Typical Williamsburg vibe and service. Inside has a lot of seating. I recently ate at Grinchys the popup adjacent to Roberta's. The experience was a little lackluster and disappointing. The food itself was delicious and the drinks were so cute but the service left a lot to be desired. I had the pretzel and it was tiny, my friend ordered the Grinchy and it was small but came with a salad and my other friend ordered the stew which was substantial. The decorations were great for a holiday bar and we didn't have to wait hours to be seated without a reservation. Roberta's and Grinchys are on two separate reservation systems so the wait for the regular restaurant was 2+ hours , but we could do a walk in at Grinchys. Our server did not come take our order for a long time and was chatting in the corner of the bar. We also got our food well before our cocktails came out and my friend ordered stew and they didn't give her a spoon and it came after we had gotten our food and after our drinks. Returned to Roberta's on what must have been the windiest day in recent memory. They've reopened and the operation is running smoothly. If you want to eat and drink on-site, order your food on the restaurant side then head over to the backyard for drinks and a table. Send someone from your party back to pick up the food after 15 minutes. My group shared two pies, a Bee Sting and the Axl Rosenberg. The soppresata is crispy and flavorful on both of these pizzas. It's a delicious meaty treat with a delightfully charred brick-oven crust. The hot honey on the Bee Sting makes it a fan favorite, still absolutely worth it. Our umbrella almost blew away in the wind, but after the sun set we didn't need it anymore. On a warm evening, with a plastic cup of IPA, this was the place to be.
