We're staying at the Riverside Hotel, and just walked inside the lobby to the Grill. We were seated right away, where we wanted to be seated, but there's a sort-of loud music suddenly distracting our quiet moment! The staff were very friendly! The service was perfectly prompt! They accidentally gave us extra serving of Clam Chowder, and have let us have it for free. We were also given a free dessert, for our anniversary. Fresh cut flowers on our table! :) read more

Update 8/11/2024 I returned with a friend for lunch and had some similar problems. First off, Jessica, our server, was very pleasant and helpful. Service was great! The problem is with the kitchen. I had ordered a salmon burger, with some capers and dill on the side, but Jessica returned to tell us that the kitchen refused to do that, even though It was after 1pm and the restaurant was quite empty. I was willing to pay an upcharge if necessary, but instead, we suffered another bad experience. Even the salmon was overcooked. And don't get me started on the number of flies inside the restaurant. We were excited to try this restaurant for Sunday brunch. Big disappointment, no better than a mediocre hotel breakfast, cold eggs, terrible over cooked potatoes and cheap not very good pastries and desserts. The biscuit and gravy was not bad. The hostess sat us toward one end of the restaurant and didnt tell us about the omelet station at the other end. We saw this as we were leaving. I don't know about most locals but this place wasn't on my radar until recently meeting friends there for brunch. I mean they have a casual bar and restaurant located right in the hotel lobby and I used to pass the hotel daily on my commute downtown but I never really thought much about a bar in a hotel near the freeway. Well my friends this is a nice little gem! First off, the location may be Garden City but it's Boise adjacent and very convenient to both downtown and anywhere else. It's right on Chinden which is a major treasure valley artery. The hotel also is right next to the Boise river. I hear there might be a cafe on site with a patio near the river walkway that's open in warmer months. We met in the hotel bar just inside the lobby. Free self-Parking was easy. We chose to be seated in the dining room instead of the bar tables and dine off the lunch menu at 11. Our server was very nice and accommodating. The breakfast buffet ended up closing while we finished lunch. We were not rushed out although after brunch the whole dining room became empty as people finished and we were chatting and eating slowly. It was a classy vibe for a girls mid-day lunch. Food was tasty and fairly priced. It was nice to sip on cocktails from their full bar with lunch. Definitely will be back. read more

the thanksgiving buffet was over priced for the quality of food imo it was a complete failure....and our service was a 1 at best....first after being seated there was no direction as to where the buffet was at! None of the items were labeled and there was no employees working in the buffet room... stood there for 10 mins to get someone to break out the main dish TURKEY.. most of the trays were empty or the food was luke warm/cold and dried out, for a 530 reservation...server brought water, had to ask for bread as there was none in the buffet room and our server failed to bring it to the table when we were seated..the restaurant knew how many guest for sure as reservations were booked thru opentable and they still allowed walkins...Clearly there was plenty of staff working and NO reason not to have employees working to maintain the buffet! I tried the Thanksgiving Buffet today and I have to say that I was really disappointed. It was my second thanksgiving without my mom, and I made sure to make a reservation a couple months early to splurge on a nice restaurant dinner. The server was great, and staff were friendly, although I did only get one drink refill, which partially led to me not spending too much time there. I was sat around the corner from the Sapphire Room by the stairs near the bar, so the ambience was bargoers watching tv and lecherous old men walking around being creepy to the female servers, rather than in one of the rooms set up for Thanksgiving Dinner. The buffet was poorly lit and items were not labeled, and unfortunately the food itself was rough as well. I couldn't pick out one thing that I truly enjoyed. Items were generally lukewarm and flavorless. The buffet line also did not have a carving station as advertised. Again, the staff were very nice and I appreciate people who work on the holidays, but I was bummed out that the considerable money spent did not make for an enjoyable Thanksgiving meal. read more

I love the revamp the Riverside has done on their whole hotel, and one of the biggest beneficiaries of the update is the Grill. The food and drinks here are amazing. If you stay in the hotel, you get a free breakfast here and the quality is wonderful. There's a design-your-own omelet bar, a range of pastries, oatmeal, cereals, fruit, and yogurt. Everything is fresh and seems homemade, and the service is always friendly and quick. Recently the Riverside must have upgraded their coffee because it went from blech diner coffee to something much better. You can either stick to standard brewed coffee (with unlimited refills) or get espresso drinks like lattes and mochas. While I normally wouldn't order espresso in a restaurant, because typically servers don't make the best baristas, I've been really surprised and delighted by the quality of the hand-crafted drinks here. On a recent morning, I had an amazing spread of some fresh fruit, a scone, and yogurt. I also ordered a cappuccino and was impressed when I got some quality foam and sweet espresso rather than a frothy mess. Normally you'll pay around $14 for an adult breakfast, so it's a good deal if you're staying at the hotel. Definitely make sure you wake up early enough to take advantage of some free food and coffee before you check out for the day. For the price (free), the quality is unbeatable. Plus, you're in a bright dining room with windows facing toward the river, so it's a beautiful atmosphere to start off your day. Even if I had to pay for my meal, I would consider this worthwhile. My server, Stacy, was especially friendly and I appreciated her great service. Go, take your in-laws, and get that breakfast buffet to carbo-load your day. You won't be disappointed. read more

My daughter loves steak so I ordered her a fillet and myself a ribeye at $30 each. Hers was ordered medium rare and mine medium. Hers came out less than rare....I mean cold and purple rare, basically mooing. Mine came out well done and was a super thin sizzler style steak. She ate the rest of her meal and I ate my entire meal before they even brought her a new one....and then it was well done! The chef argued it and said there's no way because they are pre-cooked. $10 for a precooked pizza that was so mushy it couldn't stand up for itself?!? And they still charge you for it... the flAvor could have been good if the cheese wasn't curdled or something also. I come here often for work when representing my company on Job Fairs through the Idaho Business League. Both times I've eaten here, the food has been ample, very well presented, great quality, and most importantly a great taste. I had a salad on my first visit and my most recent I got the spaghetti squash spaghetti which was super yummy and very affordable ($7), completely vegan (I'm not). We had the breakfast buffet and the Biscuits and Gravy...I don't know what the heck they put in it, but they were some of the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had. I have tried seeking out a similar kind of Biscuits and Gravy and success has eluded me. I have accepted I need to just visit Boise again and go to this restaurant. We were looking for a place that was open until 11 pm, and this place said it was. We showed up at 10:20 and no one else was in the restaurant or bar. They could have easily told us they were closing early, but instead we got superb service from the bartender Dominick. He was personable and friendly and the food came out on time, very tasty and very well presented, even though it was so late at night. I stay at The Riverside Hotel about 5-6 times a year for my job and I usually have a pleasant stay, however my dining experience at the Riverside Grill has been very disappointing since they serve you from a small buffet for breakfast since covid. They serve little amounts at a time so you have to get up for more, the hostess we had was rude and not friendly when she sat us down but our server was great. I stayed 3 nights this time and only ate the breakfast one day because the food was not as good and the options are very limited at the "Buffet" as well as the vibe I got from the hostess felt very unwelcoming. If your looking for a good clean room this is a great place. If your looking to enjoy any of the restaurants here? I wouldn't. I checked in after a long drive and sat down at the Sandbar poolside Resturant. They sat me down and gave me a menu and 4 employees sat there talking to each other not taking me order. I waited 10 minutes and started staring at them and they would make eye contact and continue to talk to their co workers and not do their job. I waited another 10 minutes and got up and left. Got room service sandwich. (And told them about my awful experience at sandbar) That food was decent. For dinner I got a steak and margarita from the riverside grill. Asked for medium rare steak, came very well done. Margarita had a FAT bug in it. I alerted them and they brought me a new one. Honestly in 6 hours I've had two huge issues with both restaurants and hotel has done nothing about it. Will be eating elsewhere for the next 4 nights here. read more

While fairly short the wine list offers interesting options. As I write I am enjoying a glass of Laissez Faire red, a European style wine that should go well withy Italian choice for dinner. We made a reservation here for late lunch celebrating my son's graduation from BSU. Although the reservation was made well in advance because we had a larger party (There were 12) they said they'd 'try' to fit us in...when we arrived there were many empty tables available in the dining room but they chose to seat us in banquet room alone. The room was set with 6 long tables that would fit 12 people each - our view was the parking lot. :( Being alone in a large banquet room would have been okay if there was stellar service but that was not the case. The server did not ask to refill drinks, did not know the soup of the day, and could not articulate where the rest rooms were. Regarding the food, to say the menu was limited is a stretch - there were very few things on it- 4 sandwiches and 3 entrees. My husband ordered fish and chips with a side salad - he didn't get any fries !? The Bloody Mary had two garnishes (a limp celery stick and olives that were on the bottom of the glass) The food that we received was okay - not great - and when we were done they did not clear our plates at all - again, a service issue. We were happy to have some lunch but as the hostess of this group it was rather embarrassing and tarnished our special day. The reason I'm giving it two stars instead of one is that they did take our reservation, the restaurant appeared clean and there was ample parking. read more
