Friend of mine and I were there for lunch today and what can I say but, "Just wonderful!" Staff was prompt and VERY friendly. I had the Monte Cristo sandwich and I could not have made a better choice. The turkey was roasted just right, ham portion size was outstanding. The french toast added the right touch. I would highly recommend this sandwich, as well as, the restaurant to any and all, young or old. There is a little something there for everyone. Prices are very reasonable and affordable. I love giving 5 stars to a place that knows what it is and does it well. You can tell it's a labor of love. Tucked away near the Patch neighborhood, Riverside is nearby the Mississippi, so it's not just a clever name. It's got that homey, diner quality, as well as being bright and clean. My only regret is that I'd never even heard of this place until today, and I live just 10-15 minutes away. A friend and I wanted diner brunch--not fancy, but classic. Yelp led us here, and it was exactly what we were looking for. We had the daily breakfast special. The biscuit with gravy was savory and delicious, with just the right kick of mild heat in the sausage. The bacon was crispy and thick cut, the potatoes crunchy, seasoned perfection, and my over medium eggs were exactly how I hoped they'd be. At $9 per meal, we couldn't argue with the price, either. The atmosphere is small town, classic diner. The service is warm and friendly. The burgers we saw headed to other tables were so tempting, we can't wait to go back and try those. Great place and one of the few places I'd say you get actual sustenance for what you pay - I almost asked if she was sure my total was accurate. It's a small joint and it's accurate when they say you'll think you're in the wrong place, but it's there. Loved it! We had planned to stop in Soulard for breakfast and place was packed. Started heading out 55 and did a Google search for restaurants nearby and discovered Riverside. My new favorite breakfast place. There was a wait for a table but chatted with folks outside and they insisted it was worth it. They were right. Service was outstanding and staff we interacted with were all friendly. Darling diner, very nostalgic. And the food? delish!! Portions are huge and prices very reasonable. This place has fantastic food, but after my experience today I feel compelled to warn others. There is a website that will return in Google searches for Riverside Diner (riversidedinerstl.com) containing the exact name and address of this restaurant and has an online ordering option. Do not order from this website. I attempted to place an order, the website encountered an error and my card was charged. Upon calling the restaurant, they informed us that they in fact do NOT have a website OR online ordering. We placed an order over the phone and when we got there and asked about it again, they again confirmed that this website is not theirs and mentioned that someone else had encountered the same issue recently. We paid (again) for our food and they did not mention that they were doing anything about this issue or looking into it, which was really disappointing to me. I would be extremely alarmed if my customers were being scammed out of their money while trying to patronize my workplace. Again, I am always extremely pleased with the food at this place, but before I return I will need to see that this issue has been resolved. read more
