Olivette Diner is worth the wait! When we are in a rush we will take a seat at the counter but if we want to chill we will wait for a big 4 top booth! The food is hot, fresh and delicious! If you come often they'll remember your order if you always get the same thing & come often!

This was interesting. I've driven past this place countless times and figured I should give it a try. I got here at 9:30 and after standing at the door for a minute it was then I realized I could seat myself. The place is smaller than I imagined and due to limited seating, the only open option was an unbussed booth. I managed to wipe away the crumbs as best I could and then someone came and cleaned the table.. After that, the server came over, introduced herself and said she'd be right with me. When she did, I ordered the #2 from the breakfast basics with a small orange juice. Up until that point, everything was going fairly well. All of a sudden, I see this rush of people coming and going. Some walked in and stood there hoping someone would get up while they happened to be waiting, while others put their face to the glass to try and see in. Mind you, the booth I chose, which was the only one open, is right by the window. So not only do I have people hovering over my food, but then I feel the stares of people outside the window. It was uncomfortable and speaking of which, this can also be said about the booth seats. The saving grace was my food coming but unfortunately, my eggs didn't have any cheese like I requested. I informed the server and they were able to put some on. The stares and dirty booth were enough to make me hightail it out of there. But alas, no trip to the diner is complete without it being cash only! Thankfully, they have an atm inside but be prepared to incur a $4.00 fee. The food itself was pretty good; the atmosphere? Not so much.

Experience was mostly typical of local, family-owned diners. Decent food and service (although they were packed and it took a while) but the really interesting thing about this place is that it is the location used by ahead East for the photo on the back of their 1975 album Flat as Pancake... Lived around here all my life and never visited before to find that out.

This is a classic greasy spoon diner. Stools at the counter of 4 top booths. They will t dry to make it work for a group of 6 but come early if you're that big. Cash/check only, seat yourself, and some of the nicest waitresses with speedy service around. This was our second time in and we agreed that while it's good, it's almost TOO greasy. Pair that with a too hot griddle and you get some anemic looking pancakes (see photo). Sure they tasted fine but the look was meh and the gut rot feeling was strong from the heavy grease. Also not sure why the pat down the pancakes and chop the bottom while grilling. Ruins the fluff. Eggs and bacon were cooked well. My parter got chicken fried steak with thick slices of wheat bread and said it was fine. Overall hit the spot but not likely to continue to be a regular in our rotation.

One word, Slinger!! Best in Saint Louis. Make sure you bring ca$h. Only one thing I would change. Serve Bloody Marys, mimosas and beer. Just my two pennies. Trinity agrees!!

This diner is tucked away in a shopping plaza. I. could tell there's a lot of frequent diners because the serves knew almost everyone and their orders. Well portioned sizes and well priced.

Traditional little diner. We arrived for lunch and the place was very busy. I couldn't pass on ordering breakfast for lunch. I got 2 buttermilk pancakes and I added two scrambled eggs. Very efficient place. I noticed the flow and it's impressive. Our food was delivered nice and hot. Everything tasted good. *** Cash only, no credit cards accepted The diner is in a large strip mall so there's plenty of parking.

Wow. Had breakfast here today as a first timer while working in the area. Bananas Foster waffle is the bomb. This the item to try but the pancakes and French toast also look fluffy and delectable. Don't forget to try the deep fried bacon; flavor intensified in this process. Omg. Service fast, coffee perfect. Old time diner feel. The best. Love it!

I LOVE this place! Fast and friendly service, great food, excellent pricing. I have Alpha Gal Syndrome (got bitten by a tick and am now allergic to mammal meats), and the staff was awesome about accommodating it. I left so stuffed, I thought my boyfriend might have to roll me out the door (jk). I had the Spinach Tomato Benny, and omg, it was fabulous!! Boyfriend had Hot Hash and Holly (his favorite)...And the chocolate malt was great, too!!! Loved the staff, also. Would definitely recommend!

We absolutely love this place! Melinda, Sandy, Trinity and the crew always make us feel like more than customers- more like family! We moved to OFallon recently and gladly drive 20 minutes to get some of their biscuits and gravy and the best pancakes in St. Louis. Great ambience, 50s diner feel is just our vibe. If you haven't been, you're missing out on Olivette's best gem.

    Breakfast burrito turned omelette

A friendly place for a weary traveler to land. The Uber ride over was worth it. Just the breakfast I needed to begin to turn a crappy start to the day around. I wanted a breakfast burrito without all the calories and carbs so I turned it into an omelette. What I didn't know in advance was this place is CASH ONLY but there is an atm in the back. There was a $3 fee.

    Jasmine P.

AMAZING!! Small mom And pop dinner that keeps to its roots! Very welcoming for all types of people. If you want fairly priced breakfast/brunch this is the place to be. Make sure to bring cash because it's cash only(they do have an ATM on site). It was so quaint and calm. I enjoyed how nice the employees were. They were helping me navigate the menu to tell me their favorite choices and made great conversation with us! Everything was a great option on their menu. There was an elderly gentleman that began to fall leaving the establishment and the employees did everything they could to make sure he was supported and they didn't leave his side. It was so community focused and they genuinely care for their customers in ALL aspects. I will be back!

    Eggs scrambled lightly!
    Dana B.

My absolute favorite breakfast diner (although they serve lunch as well), the food is on point and delicious. The only restaurant in St. Louis that we have found that can actually lightly scramble eggs correctly! The servers are all sweet and kind and attentive. Service is fast. The place is clean and well lit. A place where regulars go and while everyone may not know your name, you're remembered!

The number 4 breakfast with over medium eggs, bacon, and a biscuit instead of toast with a side of gravy.

I've been meaning to eat southwestern-themed breakfast food since I saw the legendary "chorizo and…read moreeggs" scene from the movie Midnight Run. The opportunity finally presented itself when a member of my old man's bicycle group suggested this place for a Friday afternoon lunch. I was more than happy to step away from my responsibilities for an hour or two, and the only thing that would have made it better is if I'd been able to disappoint a group of people standing in line, like at the DMV. I'd been as far south on McCausland as a shopping center near the intersection with Manchester, for a drug test for a job, which I'll have you know I passed with flying colors. Consulting Google Maps on the way to the restaurant, I was surprised to see that it's on (er, kinda on) Southwest Avenue. Does it serve diner fare with a southwestern flair due to its address, or is that a mere matter of coincidence? According to a guy I know, who knows several people who work there (don't be jealous), it's the latter. Certainly, you wouldn't put a restaurant here for the ambience. This looks like the kind of place where you'd ditch a stolen car after using the backseat for a fried chicken dinner that somehow involved ketchup (why?) and an assignation with a lady of the evening. If you live nearby, I guess it's not off the beaten path, but who lives here? The menu is a veritable plethora of riches. You could have breakfast food, or you could have lunch food, even if you couldn't bring yourself to roll out of bed until after 10:30 AM. It's downright anxiety inducing! I toyed with the idea of a torta or a burger, and I also saw that they had milkshakes. I ended up going with breakfast food, because I love breakfast food and I don't get it as often. Specifically, I went with something called the Rocket to Bacon Land. It's a bacon and goat cheese omelet with arugula and caramelized onions, served with home fries and your choice of bread. I could have gone with various kinds of toast or a sopapilla. I went with a biscuit. It was amazing! It looked like something your mom would make with Bisquick when she's feeling especially lazy, but it tasted great. It may have been better than the biscuits at Popeyes--which is pretty much the highest compliment you can pay a food item. The omelet was also pretty good. I appreciated the generous helping of eggs, which must have run them, thanks to a certain individual who shall not be named. It was definitely an egg-forward preparation. The arugula didn't seem to add much, as I suspected, and I don't know that the bacon or onions were present in sufficient quantities as to be truly dominant. The goat cheese was definitely a choice. It was warm and soft (ahem), but not melty the way you'd expect cheese in an omelet to be. I liked it, but I don't know if I liked it as much as a regular ol' Denver omelet. I'm a close-minded individual. I buy vanilla ice cream for the taste. Would I feel the same way, to varying degrees, about everything else on the menu? There's only one way to find out.

Not only were we not granted an exception on the checks as consolation for not being able to order french fries, there was no indication that this had even occurred to our server. This is precisely the level of temerity we need to inculcate in young women in our society, and I'd encourage her to apply for a job at the women's-only sports bar a few doors down if and when it ever opens. It'd be tragic if she wasn't there if and when I return, but I'd appreciate the fact that she has a greater mission. Hopefully, the deep fryer is working. It being out of commission naturally limited the number of things on the menu we could order. We were only told that we couldn't order anything that required a deep fryer, not given a modified menu or anything. I started going through each item and imagining how it might be prepared, but I couldn't muster the psychological bandwidth to continue. Hit my Cash App if you appreciate the amount of unpaid emotional labor I was compelled to contribute. It occurred to me that I might just get a burger and a side salad, but then I saw that they carry a club sandwich. I love a good club sandwich, and I figured it might make for a light, refreshing alternative, given the weather. There's an option to get a cup of soup for $1.50 extra as a side with your sandwich (no, they didn't offer to eat the charge), and I figured that might go well with my sandwich. I was kicking myself when they brought out someone else's order with the side salad. It looked really good. The Frisco Burger, or whatever they're calling it, looked good too. Meanwhile, the BBQ Beef & Cheddar Soup--the soup du jour (that's French), according to Flo--looked gross, like something your dog might cough up. But damn it was good! It was more beef than anything else. A large bowl of it might actually be too much food. (I'd still eat it, natch.) The overall flavor profile was along the lines of a good french onion soup. It was a reminder that I need to be ordering soup in restaurants more often. I wish the club sandwich was cut into little triangles and fanned out on the plate in some elaborate configuration, like at a place where rich old ladies have lunch, but I guess that wouldn't have been in keeping with the theme. Instead, it was served on the world's thickest Texas toast, with the world's dullest steak knife protruding from its center. This sounds like hyperbole, but I may have honestly been served the equivalent of half a loaf of bread. It was much more bread than I required, but at least it was fresh and delicious, as were all the other ingredients. Turkey used for sandwiches is almost never remarkable, but this was surprisingly great, as good as anything you'd get served as an entree unto itself. Nothing about this place suggests that it would have such good food, but it just goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover. The decor, the overall vibe and the lack of hospitality might not be for everyone, but don't let that deter you.

Outside of that, the service was really good. Great staff, very attentive. Menu had a nice option so it took us a minute to fully review the menu. The food was delicious. Cinnamon roll was very sweet as expected so brace yourself. My menu mimosa was pretty good. A lot of pulp from the mango and not enough champagne but still enjoyable. We will definitely.

My husband and I wanted to try a new breakfast spot. We stopped by another spot in the area but the…read morewait time was over an hour. So we pivoted and came across Chris' pancakes. Upon arriving, the parking lot appeared jammed pack, and you could tell there was a wait. I checked us in to be put on the waiting list. Our wait was about 30 minutes. We were sat at a two top table. A server came over to grab our drink order, and our actual server came over to introduce his self. Our server was polite and willing to answer any questions I had. We waited about 30-40 minutes for our food to come out. I ordered short stack pancakes (w/strawberries and blueberries), bacon and eggs. The pancakes were huge, fluffy, and savory. Bacon was crispy, and eggs were cooked perfectly. My husband ordered a country omelet that came with a side of pancakes. He stated his pancakes were rubbery, but his omelet was good. This place is not very big and can feel quite cramped when full. There's not much room to stretch out, and when people are walking past it feels as if they are all up on you. The building was extremely cold, even with a jacket on. Very filling, and the prices are reasonable!
