We decided to try this place after some neighbors highly recommended it. We went at 6:30 on a Saturday. They were already out of Pork, Bone-in Chicken, and Ribs. I wanted ribs, but had to choose between chicken and brisket. I can forgive a new restaurant running out of things, but to run out of 3 of your only 5 choices so early after being open a month is a bit ridiculous. I got the brisket sandwich with mac and cheese. We took it to go because there was no place available in the restaurant to eat. That meant they gave us sauce on the side that they had just taken out of a refrigerator, so it was ice cold. The first thing I tried was the mac and cheese. It was awful, completely flavorless, bland doesn't even cover it. I could tell that they didn't even salt the water to flavor the pasta, that's how bad it was. Then I tried the brisket. It was cooked to perfection, tender, juicy and falling apart, but completely lacking in any type of seasoning. That's when I turned to the BBQ sauce. I heated it up (really, who serves bbq sauce from the fridge?). I found it to be too spicy and vinegary. If you like that kind of sauce then I'm sure you will enjoy it. I like my sauce sweeter, but I had to use the sauce to be able to eat the unseasoned beef. They also didn't toast or do anything to the bun on my sandwich. In short, it was severely lacking in flavor, they haven't worked out what they need to cook to keep enough food on hand, and they give you ice cold sauce. I wasn't impressed at all. read more

I usually reserve 5 stars for a meal that is as much about the food as it is the experience. In this case, I'll make an exception. The BBQ was certainly 5-star. But how much "experience" do people really expect when getting BBQ? It'll compromise with 4.5 stars because the dining area is tiny and won't support a large group, but I don't think Yelp has an option for half-stars. You won't get a better smoky flavored BBQ anywhere in Atlanta. You don't need to add their sauces, but they've got them for those that like it that way. And they're good. Plus, they keep the BBQ moist by wrapping the butts in plastic wrap after they've reached temperature. So you get that perfect charred outside plus the moist inside without the danger of overcooking. Regardless of when you come in, it's like you are getting the butt out of the smoker at the perfect time. I could spend a lot of time talking about the brisket as well, but let's just say it's fantastic. Tell them you want a mix of fatty and lean brisket and you won't regret it. Moving on to the sides, I've only had the potato salad, baked beans, and brunswick stew. The baked beans weren't bad but they were pretty plain and a little watery. The potato salad is perfect, though, and you could make a meal out of the brunswick stew...it's to die for. Don't forget the Texas toast with its mix of garlic and other spices. It rounds out the meal just fine. I'll wrap things up with a note on the banana pudding. You probably won't have room for it, but if not, get some to go. You'll thank me. Lastly, I'll say that Righteous 'Que is remarkably consistent the few times I've been in there. Solid every time. I wish the space was bigger so you could sit and enjoy things, but the owners have chosen to keep it simple...and it works. Visit soon. read more

Needed to find a new BBQ restaurant in Marietta, so I decided to give this place a try. The food is pretty good. We got the brisket plate, pork sandwich, and kid's chicken combo. The sides were brunswick stew, green beans, and mac n cheese. The brisket was excellent. Very flavorful and not too tough. The pork sandwich was also very good. The kid's chicken combo was a couple strips of chicken in a sandwich, which was enough for my son. The entree sizes were ok. I wish they were a little bigger. The sides especially needed to be more. The brunswick stew was really good. The green beans and mac n cheese were average. But the portions were very small. I really wish they gave a little more sides. We got our food in to go styrofoam containers, evev though we were dining in, and the sides were fit into those small individual compartments in the container. For the price paid, a larger portion of the sides would round out the meal and make it more complete. read more

We've ordered takeout from here for many years and were always pleased ... until last weekend. The pound of "pulled" pork in our order was presented in 3 large, greasy chunks. It was darker in color than previous orders and had a gamey flavor. I am awarding 3 stars because we were happy with orders in the past, but their quality is hit or miss. So after 4 years of this place being in business and located 1.5 miles from my house, I'm excited! Very nice and enthusiastic folks working here with a great offering. However; my first experience was the best and it just seems to decline from there. Don't take this as a negative review, but perhaps something management needs to address. As mentioned the first trip was great. Walked in, ordered, chatted, and walked out with some great food. Next experience. Called in my order. Told it would be ready in 15 min. Arrived in 15 minutes. That's when they started my order, because they failed to ask my name on the order. Walked out 15 minutes later... apparently, even though I called t he order in, the folks in front of me took priority so I had to wait while their order was prepared and served. Testing patience at this time. The problem is... the food is awesome! So, go-around number three. It is Saturday night. They close at 9p (it should be 10p). At 8:25p I call in an order for a pork plate... sorry, chicken only. Seriously? After 4 years they haven't figured out the inventory for a Saturday night? Trust me... The food is awesome. The people are great, but it is hit or miss on actually getting what you want in the time frame promised. Incredibly disappointed...we went here based on the positive yelp reviews. Unfortunately, it was not great. The pork sandwich was pretty good, but the sauce is average (nothing special). The mac n cheese was really greasy and did not have much flavor, and the Brunswick stew was disgusting. After two bites, both my husband and I threw ours out. Wow! Amazing food... and I do mean amazing. My son and I had the "Soul Saver" sandwich... and holy cow! If you like meat, you're gonna freak out. Pulled pork, chicken, brisket and bacon on Texas toast. OMG - this alone will sell you. Wife had the pulled pork sandwich and baked beans. Loved it. ALL OF THE MEAT IS MOIST AND PERFECT. My wife even says the beans rival her fathers Louisiana recipe... which is saying something. Had to try the Brunswick stew and banana pudding too. Both were awesome. This is the first time trying Righteous Que. we called the order in and picked it up which was on time. We got home and unfortunately one of the kiddos drinks was missing and so was the oatmeal cookie I ordered. The kids had barely any chicken in the sandwich and my pork was just ok. My husband said his brisket, beans and Brunswick stew was just ok but we weren't blown away with it to be honest. We wanted to try it per the reviews but I am not that impressed IMO. Before today I liked this place. The food is pretty good and the people are nice. But after placing an $80 order for takeout and asking for a 4th (small) container of BBQ sauce, I was told that 2 lbs of brisket only comes with 3 sauces and I would have to pay for the 4th. WOW this place was exactly what I was looking for! I was in the greater northern Atlanta area for the day from California and I was hoping to find some true, authentic southern BBQ while I was here. I checked on Yelp! and found this place with some nearly flawless reviews. I decided to order the BBQ brisket sandwich, mac n cheese, banana pudding, with a sweet tea on the side. Everything about this meal was exactly what I was looking for. The brisket was juicy yet charred just enough for a great texture/flavor combination. The bun was sweet and didn't get soggy when I slathered on some red sauce they had at the table. The mac n cheese was absolutely amazing! So cheesy, gooey, and even the macaroni was cooked well. As for the banana pudding, it's something I hadn't had since I was a little kid and this was even better than I remember it. The Nilla Wafters went perfectly with the balanced banana pudding. I washed all this down with a sweet tea which really made this feel like an authentic southern BBQ meal. So good! We were always disappointed because they seemed to be closed every time we tried to grab dinner here. They recently extended their hours and we are so glad! It might not be the healthiest but it sure scratches that "good ol' southern home cooked meal" itch. The pork is perfectly cooked. The sauce is a slightly sweet vinegar based version. I was pleasantly surprised with the bbq, sides, and the whole menu. The first time I went I had the pork. It was awesome! The second time I went they recommended the brisket. It was the best I ever had. Everything is made there homemade. You can definitely tell. All their sides taste like good old fashion recipes. There isn't table service with servers. When we walked in the door they said all they had available was some pork, no ribs, no brisket, no chicken !! I'm sorry, if you're in the restaurant business to serve customers this should not ever ,ever ,ever happen! After tonight's experience, I realize the owner is just someone who enjoys barbecuing and does not have a grasp on what running a business is all about. Would not try it a second time.
