The Highs: The sweet potato pancakes were the reason we came here based on an IG review. They were actually really good. The grits were flavored nicely. The chicken sausage was pretty good as well. The Lows: I ordered on their website at 11:25 and requested the order for 12 pm. It wasn't ready until about 12:15. The Mac and Cheese wasn't very good. I expected more from a place that is supposed to have that southern comfort food vibe. If you like creamy Mac and cheese with the cheese pull... This ain't it. The In-between: we ordered food to go. The place is located in a shopping center next to the tropical smoothie place. Parking wasn't hard at all. It wasn't that busy when we went on Sunday morning. As noted, I had to wait about 15 minutes passed the original pick up time. They invited me to sit at the bar but no one offered me a water or anything while I waited. When I did finally receive the food, there was no apology for the delay either. Little service recovery attempts like that can go a long way. read more

Phyllis Brunch Bistro is one of the best brunch spots in Marietta, Georgia. What makes this restaurant special is that it was created by a son who wanted to showcase his mother's recipes, and you can truly taste that homemade Southern flavor in every dish. We tried the chicken croquettes, honey biscuits, fish and grits with Creole sauce, and a skillet. The honey biscuits were absolutely amazing, and the fish and grits were seasoned perfectly. Everything tasted fresh and made from scratch. The hospitality was 10/10. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The decor is beautiful and creates the perfect atmosphere for brunch with family and friends. If you're looking for Southern brunch, comfort food, fish and grits, homemade biscuits, or a great Black-owned restaurant in Marietta, I definitely recommend giving Phyllis Brunch Bistro a try. It would've been excellent if we ever received our food. We made reservations for Sunday brunch after church today on Open Table and were really looking forward to enjoying the Sweet Potato Pancakes. They had a full staff, it seems, but they were running exceptionally behind on orders to the degree where multiple tables left, and we had to unfortunately do the same due to some additional stop we had to make today. The server was kind but I'm not entirely sure with all of the help they had why they were so behind on orders. We literally waited 45 minutes with just drinks and not even our appetizer making it to the table. They need to sit and have a discussion logistically about their operational flow but it they will not last long with what we experienced today, and I had to say that. Your customer want to enjoy your food but if we never receive it, how could we? read more

We have driven by this establishment before but never paid attention. I found it on google and I'm glad we tried it. It is a family owned restaurant so it's always great to support local. The venue is beautiful. We were able to get a reservation online fairly easily. There is ample parking. The hostess and server both were so kind and warm. Cassandra our server was very caring! She made good recommendations made sure we had a pleasant experience! The food is delicious! The pictures don't do it justice. The sweet potato pancakes with the cinnamon sugar butter is perfect. The grits was the perfect consistency and richness. The chicken and waffles was well balanced. The corn bread was a little dry but it wasn't a big deal. There is something for everyone on the menu. We will definitely return! read more

Let's start with the 10 minutes I stood at the door while being told they were going to clean off a table for me. I got there a little after 2 pm on a Saturday and it was not busy. Multiple tables were dirty and the servers were moving very slow. I really wanted to taste the food so I waited patiently to be served. I then watched as they cleaned the empty tables before I was even given a menu, an hour later I received undercooked bacon, and weirdly flavored grits, eggs that were sparsely sprinkled with cheese that was an up charge. The only good thing was the sweet pancakes. Now I am watching at how long it's taking for the table near me to get checked out, and it seems like their bill is messed up. I should have left after the first red flag. I submit this review hoping that this business will do better. read more

Came to Phyllis for brunch with a couple of friends and everything was so good. I ordered the steak skillet with potatoes--perfectly seasoned and super filling. One friend had the shrimp and grits, and the other got the catfish croissant. We all loved our meals and cleared our plates. The bottomless mimosas were definitely flowing, and the lavender lemon drop was a must-try--so smooth and flavorful. The vibes were great, food was on point, and it's honestly the perfect brunch spot. We'll definitely be back for more. read more

HELP. THEM. JESUS. Let me start by saying... the food is good! Really good actually. And now after reading reviews, I believe this is what saves this establishment; because it most certainly is not the service! You know it's a sad day when the kitchen staff cares more than the manager and servers about a guest's needs. And while I understand this is not a fine dining establishment, why can't it be a fine experience? I love supporting B.O.B.s but why does it have to come at the cost and compromise of quality, care, and service? So we came on a Sunday after church midday. When we arrived, the restaurant wasn't even half full. We were at the host stand for about 5 minutes, which seems like longer when you have a reservation AND the restaurant is almost empty. The red headed-dread server who postured herself like the lead server was at the host stand managing our seating. Yet, she was moving at a snail's pace with total lack of urgency. She ended up seating us right by the door (steps away from the host stand) which further lead to the perplexity of the seating study and delay. Anywho, we sat down excited to review the menu and prepare to see if the food would live up to the social media rave that prompted our visit. We weren't greeted for at least 10 minutes. During that time, two more tables came in after us, and were greeted immediately. We then were spoken to by a guy who seemed more like support staff, than a server. He was lackadaisical and informal. "Can I get yall something to drink?" We asked for a plastic cup or a to-go cup for our daughter. He seemed to not comprehend the request. He went and picked up a clear cup. Then he took it back before delivery. Then he came to us with a coffee cup (with no lid). I could say so much more about this bizarre exchange. But the point is, it was evident HE WAS NOT a server, or at least had a gross lack of training and understanding. After our drink order was delivered, it took him another 15 minutes to return to take our food order. Yet, we were ready to order from the time he originally came for drinks. Now, the kitchen... strongest point of this experience! Food was prepared fast! And we watched the 3 servers walk back and forth past our food as it sat in the window. After watching this for about 5-7 minutes between 4 people (including the manager), I had to prompt another server to please check and see if that was our food sitting. Of course, it was. Smh. No expediter. And no care from other servers about hot food. It shouldn't matter if it's your table's food. Hot food in any restaurant should be of the UPMOST importance. What was mind blowing was all the while food would sit in the window, the manager sat with his arms folded, not lifting a finger to serve or support. Sir, why are you here?!? Shameful and sorry. Once we got our food, our server never returned to see if we were ok. We were missing salt on the table. I was waving to the manager to ask for a salt shaker. He was starring into space and grossly ignored my flailing wave. It took a cook in the kitchen to prompt the same server who delivered our food (not our server) to check on us for me to make my salt request. The syrup canister was completely sticking and stuck to my hand. A number of things wrong. But the food... the food was right!! My husband is very picky about his catfish. He gave this one the seal of approval. The sweet potato pancakes ARE really good. ...Not too sweet; great density. ...Real (fresh cracked) eggs... many restaurants don't like using these anymore. And flavorful grits. So again, great job to the cooks and the kitchen. (And Phyllis whose recipes these are). This restaurant was my husband's idea. And he found himself apologizing because he knows how poor service and a poor experience can ruin a good thing for me. This did that! Servers and managers don't care. This place has so much potential based on location, food product, concept. But if they don't get this service thing together, they won't survive the restaurant 2 year max threshold. I pray they get it together because right now, this is almost qualified for a restaurant nightmare episode. Good concept. Great food. POOR SERVICE. And people DINE OUT for SERVICE. I would love to see the owner of this place do well with Phyllis. Feel free to reach out; Im happy to consult for improvements. read more

Great food, service was absolutely horrible. Over a 2 hour wait and we had reservations. This was a private event and we were never offered any refreshments while we waited, we had to ask for water. Setup for our reservation was to be buffet style nothing had been done until we actually sat down over 2 hours later. All in all it was bad and I don't feel the need to go back nor would I recommend it to anyone that I know. read more

Great spot for brunch. Wait time on Sundays are long to get a table and for food to come out but the food is really good. And the music is on point. I ordered the Fried Catfish Croissant. Just left the restaurant at 11:20AM where we were turned around due to no staff showing up for work. They've been open since 9AM and we were told no one decided to show up. This isn't the first time I've tried eating here and the staff was non existent. I guess I'll never get to try this place. The guy at the front door was really nice about it as it wasn't his fault but it's a pretty lengthy drive for them to hardly be open. read more

I've held out as long as I can writing this updated review! I've been pretty loyal to this spot since it opened. For a while, my friends and I would come here nearly every Sunday after church. We had gotten on a first name basis with several of the wait staff. The last 5 or more visits have been awful and today was the last straw for me! We've experienced the restaurant running out of food and not notifying us until 45 minutes into our dining time (on at least 3 occasions). We experienced the owner coming in with Walmart bags of groceries trying to fulfill orders. We've experienced undercooked fish and accountability avoidance more than I've ever experienced at any establishment! Receiving to-go food in a soggy paper plate wrapped in plastic wrap today has nailed the coffin for me! Completely careless! Again, this review comes after many times of keeping quiet and wanting to support and see this business thrive. I'm done! read more

They're open from the morning to late afternoon, and there's plenty of parking. They have some outdoor seating, but not much. Walking in, you get seated to your table and it looks like a typical brunch restaurant. This is the place to go if you're wanting soul or southern style food. I got the chicken croquettes, shrimp and grits, and sweet potato pancakes. The croquettes were smaller than I had expected, but was perfectly crispy and paired well with the Cajun sauce. The shrimp and grits are made with Gouda cheese, 5 seasoned shrimps, and is very large. There were some clumps in the grits but wasn't as bad as other places. It is pretty heavy, and wished there were some more shrimp but overall was rich and flavorful. I had ordered the sweet potato pancake breakfast, but only got the pancakes. Despite the mistake, the pancakes were paired nicely with cinnamon honey butter, fluffy, and not too sweet which is perfect for me. I also ordered a coffee, but it tasted like it was a day old and wasn't hot. Service was good, but I feel like there's always room for improvement assuming this is a fairly new establishment. Regardless, it's worth a try because the flavor is there!! read more

Nastiest breakfast I had in my life. Everything tasted off and. It took forever to get your food.

Ambiance was nice. They played LOFI music to set the tone which I love. Food could have been seasoned a little more for my taste but everything was good overall. The shortcake was a bit too dry for my liking though. Service was amazing. I appreciated the attentiveness. read more

Phyllis - Shrimp and grits with chicken and waffle with a side of Mac and cheese - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Marietta, Georgia

Alright so boom - I rolled into Phyllis on a Saturday afternoon, needing a proper brunch to settle the soul. This place hits the mark, serving up Southern comfort food, brunch, and cocktails in a medium-to-large setting with plenty of seating--no need to fight for a spot. The entire experience was made smooth by the excellent service. The staff was genuinely friendly and on top of things from the jump. My server was attentive, quick with the essentials, and made the whole brunch feel easy and welcoming. Good hospitality is key, and they nail it here. For my order, I chose the Sweet Potato Pancake breakfast. The plate was generous, featuring two large pancakes, two eggs, and my protein selection, which was the chicken sausage. I also added a side of home style potatoes. Everything on the plate was delicious. The eggs were cooked properly, and the chicken sausage was flavorful. The home style potatoes were a great side--crisp exterior and soft interior--providing that essential savory balance. The sweet potato pancakes, served with that beautiful cinnamon butter, were undoubtedly a highlight; they were fluffy and perfectly seasoned, easily the star component of the dish. Phyllis is a must-visit for a weekend brunch. Between the friendly service and the satisfying, well-executed food, it's a reliable and enjoyable spot. read more

Today was honestly a waste of time. I found this restaurant on TikTok and thought it would be a nice place to take the ladies I train for a fun brunch outing. Unfortunately, the experience was terrible from start to finish. We had reservations for 10:45 AM on May 23. Due to the rain, we arrived around 10:53, but some of the ladies were already there waiting. After being seated, it took about 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us to ask for drinks. We all ordered water... and then we waited. And waited. About 30-40 minutes passed without anyone taking our food order, even though the restaurant was not busy. We noticed another group who came in after us eventually just get up and leave. Honestly, we should have done the same. Around 11:30, as we were gathering our things to leave, the owner came over asking where we were going. I explained that no one had taken our order and that we were hungry. She convinced us to stay and brought out chicken croquettes and biscuits "to hold us over." The biscuits were decent, but the croquettes were not good. Then we waited ANOTHER hour. Our food didn't arrive until around 12:30 PM. During that time, my sister and I literally walked to another restaurant nearby, ordered food there, ate, and came back -- and our food had just arrived. To make matters worse, the chicken was undercooked. As shown in the photo, it was raw inside and dripping excessively. Absolutely unacceptable and unsafe. On top of all of that, when I went to pay, I noticed I was being overcharged. I had to ask for an itemized receipt, and suddenly the total dropped significantly. That alone was frustrating and unprofessional. The overall environment was also uncomfortable. The cook was sweating heavily over the food while talking, which did not make the experience any better. I paid for meals my family didn't even enjoy just to leave and go somewhere else to actually eat. The only thing decent about this experience was the homemade-style biscuits. I do not recommend this restaurant if you are expecting good service, timely food, professionalism, or quality control. This was my personal experience, and unfortunately, it was one of the worst brunch experiences I've had in a long time. read more

We never received our food, and after waiting an hour, we had to leave to return to work. There were only three tables seated in the entire restaurant, yet no one provided any updates or explanation about the delay or any potential issues in the kitchen. To make matters worse, the manager was in the food preparation area without a hairnet, which was very concerning from a cleanliness and food-safety standpoint. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, and we will not be returning. read more

Hubby and I arrived on a Saturday morning around 0930 for brunch. Our visit started off rough as they seemed to be out of everything we ordered. They were out of biscuits and turkey sausage, but the waitress quickly turned things around by offering a croissant instead of the biscuit. I'm giving 5 stars for the food and ambience of the restaurant. I am a consistent customer because of the awesome story (read the plaque on the wall). As someone that wants the restaurant to stick around, I must share...you all need more help. I've visited during the week as a party or 1-2, morning time, afternoon time, and on the weekends with bigger parties and every single time I've came, the team members are swamped, food takes way too long to come out, people are flustered. I always get an apology for the wait, which is appreciated. Please hire more staff members in the kitchen and serving staff, it will make the experience for everyone a ton better. Definitely going to make my way back to this restaurant! It is a must try! They market and pride themselves in southern homestyle cooking and it definitely hits the spot. The restaurant is clean has attentive staff/service, & parking is very accessible. The lot is about medium sized and is neighboring with a Panera Bread. I would say it may get crowded on weekends. I can't imagine there being an extremely long wait as the service was pretty quick (but don't hold me to that, again, I can picture them getting crowded on weekends). The food was delicious! It tasted fresh and of great quality. I am eager to try other dishes that were on the menu like the catfish and grits, fried lobster and waffles, mac n cheese, and many more. Our waitress recommended a lot of items as they all seem to meet expectations. I like that they also have some healthier options for anyone who may not be super into fried food. The only reason why I'm not giving it 5 stars is simply because of how they prepare their Honey Butter Biscuits. I really prefer for my honey butter to be glazed on and into my biscuit vs. getting it on the side and dipping it in the saucer (this is just my preference) Other than that, I'm excited to go back for a nice brunch with family! read more

Came here for my girlfriend's birthday and was extremely disappointed in this restaurant from the service to the food. The waitress/hostess was extremely unfocused. The couple seated after us received their food first. Our food sat in the window and I had to call the waitress' attention. The chicken and waffle was mid at best. There was no flavor to the chicken. I sent the waffle back as it was not fully cooked. I ordered turkey and greens as a replacement The turkey and the greens was extremely dry. Sometimes you have to try something new. I had been waiting to try this new brunch spot in Marietta. I saw there were decent reviews. My son and I love trying new food spots together. It was easy to find off Cherokee Street. There is plenty of free parking. It is a medium size establishment. We went at right time with no wait and few tables left. The wait staff was friendly. We got some good food suggestions. I went with the sweet potato platter. My son got the lobster and waffle. The sweet tea did not disappoint. I can't stress how much I love my sweet tea. This was real southern sweet tea. Loved it! Yes, I had 2 glasses. Lol! The decor was simple. It wasn't too much. It's a contemporary design style. I loved it. Less is more. Simple with enough personal touches to make you feel like your in good hands. The food came out in reasonable time. Everything was fresh and hot. No complaints. We both ate all out food. I had chicken sausage with my platter. It was tasty. My son said the waffle was good. The lobster was not overcooked. We had a pleasant experience. The food and drinks were mid-prices. A little high but worth it. I would come back and eat again. Food price and portion size were decent. read more

The food was good but the service was not. Waited an hour for our food. When it finally came, two plates had been given to another table so they asked us to wait while they remade them. Waited ten more minutes, still no plates, asked for the check and told the server we weren't paying for the missing plates. She said she'd have to ask the manager. He took them off the bill but then turned off the light in his office and left the restaurant (you can see his office from the dining room). The server handed us a to-go bag with our missing food as we left the restaurant. Ambience was tight, loud, and warm. This place has potential but the manager just stood in the doorway of his office watching the chaos and doing nothing. These people need training regarding customer service, follow-through, team work, and simply how to take care of business. The manager provided NONE of that, not even talking with his staff. I've not been as consistent in wringing reviews this year but I figured I start by getting back on track with this review! A bit late but I'm baaaaaack LOL!.... My honey wanted to go to brunch but instead of going to our typical Sunday spot I wanted to adventure out to try something new. I came across Phyllis on TikTok and saw a few reviews on yelp. There were some mix reviews regarding customer service particularly but I decided to try it out for myself. Boy am I glad I did!! Phyllis is a minority owned & operated business. Parking is free, convenient, and easily accessible. Customer service was stellar from the time we entered the establishment to the time we exited. I made a reservation for 12pm. I was a little concerned because seating appeared full. However , there was a table that was out of my view that we were placed next to the bar. Our waiter was Tyler and he is AWESOME! Tyler greeted us immediately and ensured we had everything we needed. Once Tyler found out it was our first visit he made sure to give us a thorough run down of the menu and even gave us recommendations. When I say EVERY recommendation Tyler gave was on point, it. Was ON POINT!!! Here is what we ordered: Appetizer: Crab cake - my my my, more crab than breading just how I like it - DELISH! Entree: Fried Catfish & Grits w/side of collards - ALL items were seasoned to perfection. I only asked for hot sauce because I like a little kick in my collards and catfish but I could have honestly devoured it without it - DELISH! My honey elected the Chicken & Waffle but he substituted the waffle for the sweet potatoes pancakes per Tyler's recommendation - TASTE SO GOOD MAKE YOU WANNA SLAP YO MOMMA LOL -DELISH!! Cocktail: French 75 Bloody Mary Coffee Old Fashion - Every single drink listed was top notch. But ya'll this right here was AMAZING!! The overall ambiance is very nice, relaxing and there are nice paintings mounted on the walls. There's a nice range of music playing in the background at the right volume, just enough to groove and carry a conversation with your party without having to elevate your voices. I think the prices are reasonable and well worth it. I highly recommend checking this establishment out if you're in the Marietta area. Another added note, there was a female musician that was setting up as we were checking out. She plays the harp. Very talented. Next time we will have to stay long enough to hear her sounds. One things for sure, we definitely plan to return and very soon! Shouts out to Tyler and the entire Phyllis staff for the SUPERB hospitality. See you soon! read more
