The Lows: I ordered on their website at 11:25 and requested the order for 12 pm. It wasn't ready until about 12:15. The Mac and Cheese wasn't very good. I expected more from a place that is supposed to have that southern comfort food vibe. If you like creamy Mac and cheese with the cheese pull... This ain't it. The In-between: we ordered food to go. The place is located in a shopping center next to the tropical smoothie place. Parking wasn't hard at all. It wasn't that busy when we went on Sunday morning. As noted, I had to wait about 15 minutes passed the original pick up time. They invited me to sit at the bar but no one offered me a water or anything while I waited. Phyllis Brunch Bistro is one of the best brunch spots in Marietta, Georgia. What makes this restaurant special is that it was created by a son who wanted to showcase his mother's recipes, and you can truly taste that homemade Southern flavor in every dish. We tried the chicken croquettes, honey biscuits, fish and grits with Creole sauce, and a skillet. The honey biscuits were absolutely amazing, and the fish and grits were seasoned perfectly. Everything tasted fresh and made from scratch. The hospitality was 10/10. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and made us feel right at home. It would've been excellent if we ever received our food. We made reservations for Sunday brunch after church today on Open Table and were really looking forward to enjoying the Sweet Potato Pancakes. They had a full staff, it seems, but they were running exceptionally behind on orders to the degree where multiple tables left, and we had to unfortunately do the same due to some additional stop we had to make today. The server was kind but I'm not entirely sure with all of the help they had why they were so behind on orders. We literally waited 45 minutes with just drinks and not even our appetizer making it to the table. They need to sit and have a discussion logistically about their operational flow but it they will not last long with what we experienced today, and I had to say that. Let's start with the 10 minutes I stood at the door while being told they were going to clean off a table for me. I got there a little after 2 pm on a Saturday and it was not busy. Multiple tables were dirty and the servers were moving very slow. I really wanted to taste the food so I waited patiently to be served. I then watched as they cleaned the empty tables before I was even given a menu, an hour later I received undercooked bacon, and weirdly flavored grits, eggs that were sparsely sprinkled with cheese that was an up charge. The only good thing was the sweet pancakes. Now I am watching at how long it's taking for the table near me to get checked out, and it seems like their bill is messed up. HELP. THEM. JESUS. Let me start by saying... the food is good! Really good actually. And now after reading reviews, I believe this is what saves this establishment; because it most certainly is not the service! You know it's a sad day when the kitchen staff cares more than the manager and servers about a guest's needs. And while I understand this is not a fine dining establishment, why can't it be a fine experience? I love supporting B.O.B.s but why does it have to come at the cost and compromise of quality, care, and service? So we came on a Sunday after church midday. When we arrived, the restaurant wasn't even half full. We were at the host stand for about 5 minutes, which seems like longer when you have a reservation AND the restaurant is almost empty. The red headed-dread server who postured herself like the lead server was at the host stand managing our seating. Yet, she was moving at a snail's pace with total lack of urgency. She ended up seating us right by the door (steps away from the host stand) which further lead to the perplexity of the seating study and delay. Anywho, we sat down excited to review the menu and prepare to see if the food would live up to the social media rave that prompted our visit. We weren't greeted for at least 10 minutes. During that time, two more tables came in after us, and were greeted immediately. We then were spoken to by a guy who seemed more like support staff, than a server. He was lackadaisical and informal. "Can I get yall something to drink?" We asked for a plastic cup or a to-go cup for our daughter. He seemed to not comprehend the request. He went and picked up a clear cup. Then he took it back before delivery. Then he came to us with a coffee cup (with no lid). I could say so much more about this bizarre exchange. But the point is, it was evident HE WAS NOT a server, or at least had a gross lack of training and understanding. After our drink order was delivered, it took him another 15 minutes to return to take our food order. Yet, we were ready to order from the time he originally came for drinks. Now, the kitchen... strongest point of this experience! Food was prepared fast! And we watched the 3 servers walk back and forth past our food as it sat in the window. After watching this for about 5-7 minutes between 4 people (including the manager), I had to prompt another server to please check and see if that was our food sitting. Of course, it was. Smh. No expediter. And no care from other servers about hot food. It shouldn't matter if it's your table's food. Hot food in any restaurant should be of the UPMOST importance. What was mind blowing was all the while food would sit in the window, the manager sat with his arms folded, not lifting a finger to serve or support. Sir, why are you here?!? Shameful and sorry. Once we got our food, our server never returned to see if we were ok. We were missing salt on the table. I was waving to the manager to ask for a salt shaker. He was starring into space and grossly ignored my flailing wave. It took a cook in the kitchen to prompt the same server who delivered our food (not our server) to check on us for me to make my salt request. The syrup canister was completely sticking and stuck to my hand. A number of things wrong. But the food... the food was right!! My husband is very picky about his catfish. He gave this one the seal of approval. The sweet potato pancakes ARE really good. ...Not too sweet; great density. ...Real (fresh cracked) eggs... many restaurants don't like using these anymore. And flavorful grits. So again, great job to the cooks and the kitchen. (And Phyllis whose recipes these are). This restaurant was my husband's idea. And he found himself apologizing because he knows how poor service and a poor experience can ruin a good thing for me. This did that! Servers and managers don't care. This place has so much potential based on location, food product, concept. But if they don't get this service thing together, they won't survive the restaurant 2 year max threshold. We have driven by this establishment before but never paid attention. I found it on google and I'm glad we tried it. It is a family owned restaurant so it's always great to support local. The venue is beautiful. We were able to get a reservation online fairly easily. There is ample parking. The hostess and server both were so kind and warm. Cassandra our server was very caring! She made good recommendations made sure we had a pleasant experience! The food is delicious! The pictures don't do it justice. The sweet potato pancakes with the cinnamon sugar butter is perfect. We never received our food, and after waiting an hour, we had to leave to return to work. There were only three tables seated in the entire restaurant, yet no one provided any updates or explanation about the delay or any potential issues in the kitchen. To make matters worse, the manager was in the food preparation area without a hairnet, which was very concerning from a cleanliness and food-safety standpoint. I got the chicken croquettes, shrimp and grits, and sweet potato pancakes. The croquettes were smaller than I had expected, but was perfectly crispy and paired well with the Cajun sauce. The shrimp and grits are made with Gouda cheese, 5 seasoned shrimps, and is very large. There were some clumps in the grits but wasn't as bad as other places. It is pretty heavy, and wished there were some more shrimp but overall was rich and flavorful. I had ordered the sweet potato pancake breakfast, but only got the pancakes. Despite the mistake, the pancakes were paired nicely with cinnamon honey butter, fluffy, and not too sweet which is perfect for me. Today was honestly a waste of time. I found this restaurant on TikTok and thought it would be a nice place to take the ladies I train for a fun brunch outing. Unfortunately, the experience was terrible from start to finish. We had reservations for 10:45 AM on May 23. Due to the rain, we arrived around 10:53, but some of the ladies were already there waiting. After being seated, it took about 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us to ask for drinks. We all ordered water... and then we waited. And waited. About 30-40 minutes passed without anyone taking our food order, even though the restaurant was not busy. We noticed another group who came in after us eventually just get up and leave. Honestly, we should have done the same. Around 11:30, as we were gathering our things to leave, the owner came over asking where we were going. I explained that no one had taken our order and that we were hungry. She convinced us to stay and brought out chicken croquettes and biscuits "to hold us over." The biscuits were decent, but the croquettes were not good. Then we waited ANOTHER hour. Our food didn't arrive until around 12:30 PM. During that time, my sister and I literally walked to another restaurant nearby, ordered food there, ate, and came back -- and our food had just arrived. To make matters worse, the chicken was undercooked. As shown in the photo, it was raw inside and dripping excessively. Absolutely unacceptable and unsafe. On top of all of that, when I went to pay, I noticed I was being overcharged. I had to ask for an itemized receipt, and suddenly the total dropped significantly. That alone was frustrating and unprofessional. The overall environment was also uncomfortable. The cook was sweating heavily over the food while talking, which did not make the experience any better. I paid for meals my family didn't even enjoy just to leave and go somewhere else to actually eat. The only thing decent about this experience was the homemade-style biscuits. I do not recommend this restaurant if you are expecting good service, timely food, professionalism, or quality control. I can't imagine there being an extremely long wait as the service was pretty quick (but don't hold me to that, again, I can picture them getting crowded on weekends). The food was delicious! I was a little concerned because seating appeared full. However , there was a table that was out of my view that we were placed next to the bar. Our waiter was Tyler and he is AWESOME! Tyler greeted us immediately and ensured we had everything we needed. Once Tyler found out it was our first visit he made sure to give us a thorough run down of the menu and even gave us recommendations. When I say EVERY recommendation Tyler gave was on point, it. Was ON POINT!!! Here is what we ordered: Appetizer: Crab cake - my my my, more crab than breading just how I like it - DELISH! Entree: Fried Catfish & Grits w/side of collards - ALL items were seasoned to perfection. I only asked for hot sauce because I like a little kick in my collards and catfish but I could have honestly devoured it without it - DELISH! Came here for a birthday breakfast with my husband and had the best time! We were welcomed by Trent who wore many hats at this restaurant and wore them well. From greeting, to serving, managing it all everything was well taken care of. The restaurant has a diner sort of feel to it, but fresh! We enjoyed fresh squeezed juice that was customized to our tastes by adding mango. We then enjoyed the turkey gravy & biscuits as an appetizer. (Very filling!) My husband got the chicken and waffles and I got the sweet potato pancakes, Mac and cheese, collard greens and grits. Everything was great! Great customer service. Inside was very clean. The sweet potato pancakes was a ten out of ten. The catfish grits was solid, needed a little bit more seasoning. Would definitely get that again. Very affordable restaurant. read more

For context: We arrived shortly before the church crowd but right as a large party was being served. Based on our server's comments they were short staffed. Pros: Nice ambience, parking was ok; wait time wasn't too long. Sweet potato pancakes & honey biscuits were good. Cons: Waiting area is really small; wait time for food was 30 minutes for our appetizer/30 for our entrees; ordered a sprite and got a can with no "refills"; grits lacked seasoning and the catfish was too salty. Portion size was small; overall overpriced. Server was over it; she kept making comments on how the place was poorly ran yet she lacked customer service skills. read more
