Today, I went to Phyllis the first time, and wish I hadn't. I ordered the catfish and grits because of the glowing reviews. The grits were delicious, five stars all the way. The tablespoon of sauce the give you was delicious and it needed more. The miniscule piece of catfish they served me LOOKED delicious. However, it had a VERY fishy taste because it was RAW. I couldn't eat it. When I want raw fish, I'll order sushi. Ruined my entire meal and I don't plan on returning. I gave a $2 tip for a to go order, and my bill was over $28, so the price point is ridiculous also. Guessing they are in a high rent district across the street from Kennestone Hospital. Plenty of other establishments to eat brunch for less than $28. While I waited for my to go order, I casually glanced around to discover there were only two other custmers and seated together in a booth. Not busy at all! The floor was so nasty (at noon and no customers) that I think it may be a safety hazard to eat there. They received their food before some of the people in our group received theirs. Experience was so bad we just had to laugh. I am writing this from the Panera next door where we actually ended up getting food. As vegans, we were excited to see that this place had several vegan options, so we were excited to try it. My husband and I came in at 11:30 AM on a Saturday. Restaurant seemed about half-full. We were seated quickly and our drink orders taken. Waitress kept pushing us to order cocktails, even after saying no a couple times. After we were brought our drinks, the waitress didn't check on us again for over 20 minutes. In that time, a 14-person group came in and was seated. (This is nitpicky, but they dragged metal tables around on the concrete floor for at least 10 minutes setting up for this group and it was loud enough to make you cover your ears. But anyway...) Our waitress took their orders, bussed a table, took another tables order, and then came to check on us. When we ordered, we were told that we would have to wait longer for our food because the kitchen was already working on the big table's food. Which was weird because they came in 10 minutes after us. After we placed our order, the waitress came out 3 separate times over 30 minutes to tell us they didn't have different elements of the dishes we ordered. They also ran out of sweet tea at some point, so I switched to water. On her last visit, we asked if we could just pay for our drinks and leave. All in all, we were here for almost an hour and got no food and barely any service. They even took the time to charge us $2.65 for the drinks we had when we asked to leave... I feel like after everything they could have comped a sweet tea (with no refills because they ran out) and a black coffee, but I digress. We did the pancakes instead of thr waffles with the fried chicken wings, which were fried to perfect and loved the coating. I added a side of scrambled eggs which cooked have been scrambled a little harder. My friend got a side of greens which she loved, they had a little kick that I wasn't a fan of. But all and all, I will be back and oh yeah the bartender, Trent (I think ) was absolutely great. I didn't like the Sunrise Mimosa so he created a drink for me that was green and it was delicious, I recommend that it get added to the menu especially during the Holidays and call it the Grinch. What an absolutely delicious experience! The wings and the fried lobster were exquisitely seasoned, crisp and delicious! The sweet potato pancakes were light, fluffy, and scrumptious! That one can make a reservation, as normally with breakfast places you just have to wait. When I first walked in there was no one at the front to put us on the waitlist. I stood there for at least 20 min. So eventually I walked over to the bar to ask if I could just sit there because I was alone. Instead of listening to what I had to say, the woman with locks immediately said 'we're going to get to you' and disregarded me completely. Another woman came up behind her and said yes I can sit at the bar. I then ordered my food and had to wait 40 min to get it. They gave me my pancakes 20 min into the wait with no silverware. I guess they wanted me to eat with my hands. Then I had to ask for the rest of my food for them to start pushing it. I had steak and asked for A1 sauce. The man said I wouldn't need it, so I'm guessing they don't have that. I tried it and I did in fact need it. Then after my food was done, I was ready to pay and leave. I get my bill and I'm trying to figure out why it's so high because they didn't give me an itemized ticket. The woman was acting like it was what I ordered that came up to it and said nothing about the 18% gratuity that was added on. We went to Phyllis on Sunday, it was very busy..Mother's day. Good thing we had reservations, and we're seated very quickly. About 5 minutes later the young man came took the drink orders, then our food order. 1 hour and 50 minutes later the food came. Needless to say by this time no one was feeling this place, $39.00 for a steak omelet without anything inside, the biscuit that came with the meal..didn't get it. I didn't think they made 1 egg omelets anywhere thats howflat it was!!! Then my sister had the sweet potato pancakes, very thin..first one she said was good but the 2nd one was so hard you could bang it on the plate and still wouldn't bend. By this time I was upset, so I called over the guy, who I think was the owners son, and told him to pick up the pancake with his hand..he was shocked but did it anyway, he was speechless and turned it over, it was charcoal hard and burnt. I have wanted to go to Phyllis's for over a year now, so my son and daughter-in-law took the family for my 80th birthday. We had a reservation for 9 people for 10 AM Sunday Aug 10 for 8. First of all, my daughter-in-law wanted a late' and he said he was to busy to make it. The Service was awful some of us ordered cheese scrambled eggs and nobody got cheese. The bacon was not crisp it was soggy, the cheese grits did not taste like there was cheese in them, the butter was not served with breakfast, we had to ask for it the Biscuits were dry and the food was mostly cold by the time we got it. Nobody came to clear the table so my so cleared the plated off of the table. We Had to ask for butter and cream and had to make a point to ask for refills of coffee. I will not be back there. Brought my mother out for Sunday brunch and I'm glad this ended up being her selection. The service is great, very friendly staff. The food was great! My friend and I were excited to visit your restaurant. From the beginning, the experience was promising. Our waitress was warm, kind, and attentive. We enjoyed the food, and the overall atmosphere had a relaxed vibe that we both appreciated. Unfortunately, our experience took a disappointing turn toward the end of our visit. As we exited our table to leave, my friend stood first, and I followed closely behind her. At that exact moment, a different waitress, Chantel, was walking past. I was unaware she was behind me and accidentally stepped into her path. The waitress Chantel walked around towards the front of me and said in a very nasty/rude tone, "Excuse me," then rolled her eyes. Feeling taken aback, I stopped her and politely asked if the manager was available. She responded, "Why do you need a manager?" I explained to her that I hadn't realized she was behind me, I apologized for accidentally stepping in her path and expressed that her response was rude and unnecessary. Unfortunately, instead of acknowledging the concern, she became defensive, insisted she hadn't spoken to me in that way, and proceeded to ignite a "back and forth." The waitress, Chantel, then says to me she "doesn't have to be kind towards me because she wasn't serving my table." My response to her was that, as someone working in a service environment, professionalism is important, especially in a setting where guests are paying for both food and hospitality. What she said was so disgusting and hateful. Why have that type of attitude?! When I asked to speak with a manager again, her response was dismissive and inappropriate. She ultimately agreed to get the manager and said, "Excuse me, ma'am" with another eye roll and more attitude. Even as she relayed her version of events to the manager, her tone and demeanor remained unpleasant and disrespectful. I expressed my concerns to the manager, Yolan (spelling may be incorrect), however, she did not seem to genuinely care so I asked to speak with the owner, but she said he wasn't there, when in actuality, he was the man standing next to her while she was speaking to me! After he walks away, she then says I could give you a card, and you can email him. I doubt the incident or the waitress's behavior will be addressed! The waitress Chantel was so unprofessional, nasty, and had a very ugly attitude! I want to emphasize that I wholeheartedly believe in supporting Black-owned businesses and uplifting establishments in the community. However, it is difficult to continue doing so when experiences like this occur, especially when they involve individuals who are directly responsible for serving the customers. My friend and I had planned to return, and we were looking forward to doing so. Sadly, after this experience, we've decided we will not be returning, and I will also be advising others in my network not to visit as well. You never truly know what someone may be going through or carrying in their life, so treating others unkindly can deeply affect them and potentially break their spirit. As someone who does meaningful work with other community partners across the state of Georgia, I firmly believe that kindness, compassion, and respect should be foundational values, especially in any space centered on service. When individuals bring negative energy or hostility into those spaces, it creates barriers and diminishes the quality of the experience for everyone. If someone struggles to extend basic decency to others, it may be worth reconsidering whether a role in customer service is the right fit. We had a great experience with the service and the food was tasty. As soon as we walked in, we noticed that the ambiance was welcoming and there was old school R&B playing which we loved. Stopped in after church for breakfast with the family. Hubby had the shrimp and grits. He loved them and said the grits were creamy and the sauce for the shrimp was flavored just right. He got waffle on the side that was good and just standard Belgium waffle. I had chicken wings that were really good. Fried the way I like and seasoned well. I also had the sweet potato pancakes. They were phenomenal, a nice hint of sweet potato that isn't overpowering. They give you a sweet butter that makes it so you don't really need syrup or much syrup if you use. My daughter had a cheeseburger and fries. She loved the steak fries. She said the burger is good but it's just a regular good ole cheeseburger. Tyler was our server and he was great.
