We came here on a Sunday for brunch right when they opened and had no difficulties getting a table for two. The service here was slower, especially for how few patrons were in there. There was one menu at the table, but nobody (hostess or waitress) gave us menus, so we took one off an empty table nearby. The hostess was within our line of vision but was scrolling and did not seem to visually attend. We both got french press coffee, which was just ok in my opinion. Not very strong flavor profile. The shrimp and grits and the bees knees bites were pretty good though! I'd recommend looking at the menu beforehand. They are open at 11am and offer "brunch" items which are only a few, but they're mostly lunch items. The restaurant is super cute and nicely decorated and I could it see it being a lot more lively during dinner or happy hour times. I don't know that I'd go back there for brunch or even lunch time due to their limited menu items and I feel like there are other restaurants nearby that offer true brunch. I have now visited this place twice. The first visit was for ladies night on Wednesday during the summer! The drinks were superb. Their signature cocktail drinks were very tasty and once we went into the speakeasy, my girlfriend and I had old-fashioned! Everything was great. My second visit was more recent on a Friday night! The live band started at seven and played soft, jazz music! My friend and I only had appetizers and drinks which we enjoyed immensely! Nestled right in Marietta Square. This is a super cute restaurant. Walking in feels like stepping into a time capsule not to mention they have a (secret) speakeasy with passcode entry. They also have brunch, lunch, and dinner which is a plus! I guess I just can't really tell what this restaurant is going for. The decor was straight from a 1920's speakeasy a'la The Great Gatsby, and surprise! (to me anyway) there's an actual speakeasy below the main dining area. Our server Marisa was engaging, warm, and very helpful. While I could see her being very busy behind the bar (those espresso martinis!), she was still attentive without being overbearing. Great selections on the menu, whether you prefer tapas-style shareable bites or a larger main dish that's big enough for 2 to share. Reasonably priced, and all of what we got tasted amazing! Full bar menu included several non-alcoholic cocktails and beverages. Who knew? But it looked like the espresso martini flights were the main attraction! We'll be back just to try those!! For our starters, we tried the short ribs, mushroom dumplings, and fried goat cheese. YUMMM!! There were actually a good selection of vegetarian options on their small menu. This restaurant will be in my rotation because it's so good. Some of my girlfriends had dinner here and it was so wonderful. The service was great. Our waitress frequently checked in on us and gave us recommendations. She didn't hesitate to tell us the truth about some of our choices and I really appreciated that. We started off with appetizers. The fried goat cheese is wonderful and so is the brussels sprouts. The brussels sprouts are big enough to share, but you're not gonna want to because they're so good. For dinner two of us got the short rib bite and my other friend got the salmon. The short rib was very good and tender. The only thing that made me mad is the plate was so small. But the restaurant is top of style, although the short rib bites are labeled under large plates. Just not large enough...lol. While dining, I saw some customers walk around the corner and go down a secret door. Come to find out they have a speakeasy downstairs. I had no idea. We asked the waitress do you have to have reservations to go down there? She said it is recommended but we could just go to the host stand and see if they had anything available. So after we finished dinner, we went downstairs and enjoyed the vibes. I will say it's a very nice speakeasy. And the drinks were good. They're not the same drinks that you can get in the restaurant part. I let the bartender make a drink for me so what I got really didn't have a name. I ordered the citrus beet salad and it was delicious. The servers checked on me several times never leaving me to wonder where they were. I'm only giving it four stars because somebody else was there with dogs that were barking a lot and the barks were very high-pitched which I found annoying and nobody asked them to go elsewhere, which resulted in me packing up and leaving early. I understand it's not your situation and I don't mind dogs on patios where they are allowed. If you have an annoying dog, be kind to those around you and do not bring them. read more

It was my first time at this restaurant ad I'm between a 3.5 and a 4. I went here with friends for our annual birthday dinner. Parking in Marietta Square is always a challenge but we found a spot in a lot near the food hall. It's a short walk away. Once we got inside and I gave my name for the reservation, the hostess pointed us in the direction of our table which was a little odd. I am normally escorted but no big deal- we're a pretty laid back group so we just walked to our table. The server came by and took out drink orders. He was nice and professional. He talked us through the menu, pointing out their popular dishes. We ended up ordering a few different dishes to share since the concept is tapas. Some menu items were marked as gluten free so I didn't mentioned that I required gluten free. When the beets and burrata salad came out, I noticed the bread on the dish that looked very glutinous. While I didn't eat the salad I did taste an apple from the dish and it was delicious. The salad was marked gluten free on the menu but our server did confirm the bread in fact was not GF. I was a little disappointed when the tuna tartare arrived at the table because it was being served with wontons- glutinous wontons. So our server offered me Gluten free bread. I feel like menu items should be listed as MGF if they are not leaving the kitchen as a GF dish. The shrimp toast was tasty as was the queso and chorizo served with house made chips. They have a good wine selection along with cocktails. The espresso martini is also very good here, a lot better than some I've had recently. I would go back for the espresso martini for sure and maybe a bite to eat. read more

This is a super cute wine bar and some really good cocktails with some great food options! We loved the whole ambiance when we came in from the decor to the playlist they had going. First, the service was great. Our waitress, Patience was very knowledgeable and was able to tell us in great detail about all of the items on the menu which helped us in picking some delicious choices. She recommended the Buffalo Cauliflower, which had great flavor and crispness. We've been thinking about them ever since. The Jamaican chicken empanadas weren't our favorite but they weren't horrible just wouldn't order again. And the short rib comes as an appetizer or a main entree which we ordered the appetizer portion and it was sooo good!! We wanted cocktails for this outgoing, despite going to a wine bar which we were pleased with. Marietta Proper exceeded my expectations. A friend suggested it and I was on the fence, having heard they served "small plates with large prices", but I now know better and disagree! Our server, Patience was fabulous. She helped me select a wine which was perfectly to my taste. My friends and I shared queso and chips, shrimp toast, and the cauliflower. With a Maker's 46, what's cocktail! My wife noticed a doorway and asked about it. We were referred to Will, the manager, who took us down to what has been a members only lounge. Super cool and the kind of place we hoped to discover. We mentioned we were looking to relocate and we enjoyed the square in Marietta. He gave us a couple of other places to check out and introduced us to a local guy who gave us more info. What a wonderful experience! This is the kind of community we seek and have enjoyed. So why 3 stars????? The bartender poured Buffalo Trace. When I asked about Makers 46, she told me the menu had a typo. They were only a week old, but were incorrect. Ok, a little sketchy, but not too bad. I went to the restroom and my wife paid. When we got to the car she told me the menu also had the wrong price. Instead of $13 they charged $18 per cocktail. $10 isn't going to break me, but I really felt like this was a bit of bait and switch. The bartender did nothing preemptively to tell us the menu was wrong on the bourbon. But then to not tell us the drinks were actually almost 40% more than what was on the menu? That's something you need to be made aware of, especially when you've already called out an inaccuracy. Love the place, we will come back, but we will ask a LOT more questions to ensure things are on the up and up. The menu should be transparent and taken at face value... These are simple fixes that can be corrected immediately and easily. I know it will be better when we return! read more

You could definitely share this as an app. I had a bite, and they were super good. The bruschetta was great! It's a bun quartered, but it seemed bigger than that. The bread was crispy but not hard like bruschetta can be. I appreciated that it was a bit softer. For entrees we had the short rib and shrimp ravioli. Both were awesome. The portions were good, but if you are famished, you'll need an app or two. The drinks were nice. We both had the play on an old fashion with uncle nearest bourbon and maple. They were sweet but good. They felt strong enough. If I ordered it again (which I will), I'd ask them to cut the sweetness a little. The desserts were ok but not a must. They didn't have a lot of the ones we wanted to try. The puff pastry with fruit was good and large, but wasn't anything special. Dessert was the low point of the meal, but it was fine. My sister and I were looking for a breakfast spot in Marietta and we stumbled upon this one. The restaurant is located in the heart of Marietta Square. Parking can be a struggle. We got lucky and found someone leaving. We only had to walk 1 block. Upon walking in there is no indication of what you should do. We were just looking around and had to ask a staff member to be seated. There needs to be a host stand or a sign indicating you can seat yourself. We were seated at a bar height table. I will say the table and chairs are cute, however, the foot bar on the chair is a hazard. It is slippery and I foresee someone hurting themselves. Our wait staff was Patience. She took our drink orders first. When the drinks came out she took our food orders. I ordered a cappuccino with oat milk. My sister ordered a macchiato with oat milk. I really enjoyed my drink. The coffee is solid! They do offer flavored syrups for your coffee drinks if you desire that. Please also note that they serve traditional macchiato's. Don't expect a large serving size for this drink. I ordered The Proper breakfast which is basically eggs, protein, and house fries. My sister opted for the croissant sandwich with a side of fruit. The food came out in decent time. If you see my pictures you will note that it does not look appetizing! It also was not tasty. Saying it's average is being generous. The only item that had decent flavor was the home fries. If you know me, I typically clean my plate. I left plenty on this one. It was just not good. The saving grace of this place is the decor and coffee. It's a cute space, but it's just not enough for a restaurant. The food has to shine! I will say that maybe the lunch and dinner is better. My boyfriend and I stopped by to have lunch and let's just say we will be back. The atmosphere reminded of a speakeasy vibe very elegant and cozy. During the time of day it wasn't crowded so the servers were sure to consistently check up on us and make sure we were doing good. Most importantly the food was flavorful and comforting.
