I wanted to serve bbq for mothers day. I wasnt super excited about the cost as we usually have Jim n Nicks. Theyre good but kinda pricey (and they dont sell fried okra). On Friday, I pre ordered some brisket, pork, mac n chee, beans , and yes, fried okra. I picked it up Sunday (moms day) at noon. First off, the okra was the last item they packed up for me, so it sat in the passenger seat within reach. I think I ate half the order on the way home. THE BEST OKRA!! I knew then that I had made the right choice with Luckeys! Everything was excellent! All the moms loved it. All the guys loved it. Will definitely order again! I ordered online and went in for pickup. It's a nice size place with outside seating options as well. I ordered the catfish platter which was seasoned well and fried just right. My sides were Mac n cheese which was delicious and cheesy along with the baked beans, I have to say somebody knows what they are doing in that kitchen. My daughter got the brisket and coleslaw and did not leave one bite. My other child had chicken fingers which were fresh and for a kids meal they gave her plenty. The two ladies working greeted me as I walked in and when the original side I ordered was no longer available they accommodated me with no up charge. I will for sure be returning. read more

My partner is on the carnivore diet and he selected Luckey's for his birthday dinner. They made it so easy for us to order food for him and he absolutely loved it. We had a whole smoked chicken, which was his favorite. We also had a pound of sliced brisket and took a pound of pulled pork home. All of it was so good and we'll definitely be back. We have eaten here before this diet and their sides are all good as well. It was hard not to order that mac & cheese. read more

I got the brisket platter and it comes with two sides. I added a drink and my total came up to about $22. The brisket came out very fatty. No smoke ring, and was dry like it was leftovers from yesterday. The Brunswick stew is a no go. The muffin is bland as well. Definitely not what I was thinking when it comes to barbecue. I placed a pick up order from the restaurant's website. I paid and received an email confirmation. The order should have been ready at 451pm.I got to the restaurant and the cashier said they did not have my order. She said it didn't come through their system. She asked what I ordered. I told her a rib platter with a full slab and two sides. She said they would prepare it. She came back and said they were out of ribs. I told her to refund my money. She said I could come back and get the food I ordered today tomorrow. I told her I wanted a refund. Somehow she miraculously found my order and my money should be refunded to my account in 3-5 business days. They did not offer any type of compensation for my wasted time(at least 30 minutes). Management never came to apologize for the inconvenience. I will not be visiting this establishment again. I spend my hard earned money if they do not appreciate my patronage. read more

The ribs were a bit overcooked and dry. I was also not impressed with the sauce. The sauce taste like the beginnings of a great sauce but hadn't been heated so that the flavors and seasonings could combine. The collard greens were okay. I will say that it was more seasoned than others I've tried but I wouldn't label it great. The baked beans were okay. For the price it was a decent meal for lunch but would have been much better had the ribs not been overcooked. I may give it another try in hopes that the ribs were a mishap. read more

The quality of food here never wavers no matter how busy they are. Went in today which is Labor Day. My son and I decided to dine in which also allowed for us to skip the wait on those to go orders. Plus he likes his fries hot and fresh. The dining room is equipped with a couple tvs and the best lemonade and Tea this side of the Mason Dixon. Lol my son got the pulled pork sandwich and fries and I had the pulled pork platter with greens and Mac add ribs with Texas toast. Both proteins were fork tender. The seasoning on the ribs... Lawd hammercy! It's a "you have to try for yourself." Nothing I say will give it justice. It's a "oh wow" when you bit it. Sauce is not needed at this establishment. But they offer like 5 different options. The gold or mustard sauce is my favorite. Luckey's comes highly recommended. read more

Final update. I saw all the reviews with people complaining about them not answering the phone and while that never really bothered me since they're so close to my house. The last few times I tried to call them, there was no answer - so I drove in and a) they weren't busy, so I guess I had just missed the rush ... and / or b) they were busy, so there was a bit of wait & were out of the item I wanted plus super nonchalant & dismissive - so I was annoyed that I wasted my time driving up there. They've been in business for a while - so it seems like by now they should have a better handle on sales / quantities - so the fact that they're consistently out of of items during busy times makes it seem as though they don't know what they're doing from a business / planning standpoint. Being out of a popular item at 5 or 7pm consistently seems odd. One night I stopped by to pick up some food & my buddy asked me to pick up some food for her child. My buddy doesn't eat meat - but she still feeds her child meat. She asked me to get a chicken based kids's meal, with any non-carbonated beverage. I asked beforehand, found out they have the cheap, pressed / formed chicken tenders, flash frozen. I ordered kid's chicken tenders w/ sweet tea. Tried to dispense tea & it was empty. Asked cashier. She said they were out. No apology. Just kept wiping down tables. For a while now - I've gotten a weird, sorta unfriendly vibe from the owner. The cashiers were friendly - but the owner would make direct eye contact yet never nod or even say hello. I thought it was kinda weird - but I not knowing his background, didn't think to much of (non-Southerners will stare you dead in the face and say nothing and think nothing of it). Happened again tonight. And what made it weirder is the fact that, people after me were shouted a friendly greeting when they entered. I felt so unwelcome that I didn't even leave my customary tip on take-away order. Later, my ex sister-in-law who knows all these folks because of what she does professionally pointed out the relationship with Thompson Brothers Barbecue. So this is a southerner & my TB review was my honest review. I will say - Kudos to Luckey's for a good 'about us' section on website. I love knowing the 'origin story' on a restaurant / restauranteur. And I was surprised to read about owner, Corey Stephens, starting his cooking skills by taking Home Economics. By the time I hit high school - they had stopped offering Home Ecs because parents deemed it sexist & had demanded that it be removed from the curriculum. And even when I was in middle school & knew it existed, they wouldn't let boys take it because they felt like the guys were only signing up to be disruptive or to hit on the girls. Anyway - They were out of brisket. Couldn't tell by the weird way the chose to communicate the 'out' items on the blackboard if they were saying they were out of brisket, ribs and rib tips for the day or IF they were out of brisket for the day and out for ribs and rip tips until 7p. When I asked the cashier - she answered by telling me that they had chopped brisket but couldn't tell me if it was fatty or lean. Dude. I've never had your chopped brisket. I have no idea what percentage of fat and lean you start off with. I know I don't NEED the fatty meat - but I find their lean brisket too dry. Anyway - I chose to just get a pint of collard greens & I had to wait 15 minutes for them to hand to me. Got the Vulcan death stare from while I waited. Also - ordering via delivery is nightmare. We had relatives in a town a few weeks ago. Ordered a bunch of food to be delivered and delivery driver couldn't 'find' them because they were looking for 'Luckey's' but the plaza signage still says "The BBQ Place.' The delivery driver tried calling them repeatedly & they wouldn't answer the phone - so it took forever and our food was cold / delayed by the time we got it. Another issue - and I've noticed a LOT of black restaurants do this - I've called 30 - 40 minutes before closing and asked if it's too late to place a call-in order and they will say, Yes - you have to come in. So the next time - I'll drive in 30 - 40 minutes before closing and say, Is it too late to place an order? And they will say Yes. I'm not an @sshole.* I work from midnight to 8am full time AND I work freelance part-time during the day, so I'm generally just starting my 'personal' time at 5pm. Even with that - I'm not showing up at anyone's establishment 10 - 15 mins before closing ... but if you / your employees want to clock out & get in your car at 9pm, please don't list your closing time as 9pm. Please do your future customers a favor & just list your closing time as 8pm. As much as I like the collard greens, marking them off the list. Positives - Place appears clean. Got a 93 on their last inspection. *PS - Aw. Despite what 'Zaddy' thinks, I think she should Google how IP addresses find a better use of 'her' time. Lol. read more

Went on 8/11/24 for lunch. My family ordered 4 1/2 slab platters with mac and cheese and collard greens. The ribs were very tender, fall of the bone. I love using bbq sauce and these ribs don't need them at all. The rub is great. However, I tried all of the sauces, except the Alabama white, and they were good. The mac and cheese and the collards were very good. The mac and cheese was very cheesy and had a great flavor. The collards were seasoned perfectly and not a ton of stems. I think they need a better process. I tried calling in my order 4 x's and didn't get throough. When I arrived, I noticed the cashier allowing the phone to ring. I can only imagine the amount of orders they may miss out on because they aren't answering the phone. Perhaps hire an additional person who manages on-line and call-in orders. With a smoother process, the service level will be enhanced. Will definitely go back again! read more

I was skeptical at first when approaching Luckeys because it is in a strip mall. Turns out I was wrong to be skeptical. Their smoked wings really hit the spot and their sweet/hot BBQ sauce was a perfect balance of sweet and savory, even had some tang to it. I'm a big BBQ person so my review might be a little biased, with that being said overall it was acceptable to me. Could have been better. Definitely clean and affordable. When we walked in the girl who was sweeping the floor was super focused. She didn't acknowledge us at all; clean that floor girl! Lol. She didn't mean anything by it though. She was kind enough to come by three times after we had already got our food to make sure everything was good. The food again was acceptable. My manager got the smoked salmon platter. It smelled amazing and she ate it up. She got fried okra and mac' and cheese as her side. They gave her A LOT of okra, and I am A ok with that! Will be getting it next time I come. We both felt the mac was lacking in the cheese department. Meaning, it had cheese, but it did not taste cheesy. This was also the case with the mac and cheese fried balls she got, which I tried one and respectfully did not ask for another. I got the smoked sausage platter. I asked if it came with bread, and the girl said yes, but what she really meant is that they will switch out the cornbread that comes with the platters for the bread, which I wish I would have known, because my boss gave me her cornbread and it was good, additionally the bread was so thick and tiny it did nothing to help me eat the sausage unless I cut it in half, but at that point it defeats the purpose. The sausage was good though. I did cut one up and try all of the sauces on it. I only liked the savory and the mustard (barely). All the others just tasted disgusting to me, not knocking them if you like it, but that's not how I like my bbq sauce. I had the mac and bbq beans for my side. BBQ beans get an A plus in my book! I asked the server if she knew what type of sauce they use in it, she didn't know, but we both came to the consensus that it was the savory, which is probably another reason why I liked it. As a "snack," I laugh because just like a good ole bbq place, there snack is a big serving, I got fried pickles. I thought it was different how that quartered their pickles and then fried them. Food was very good. We stopped on a Friday night for dinner. Welcoming dining room with plenty of space. Simple menu. I had 6 smoked wing in honey chili sauce, potato salad and Cole slaw. Wings had a nice smoke ring, crispy and very juicy. My husband had the sliced beef brisket and my nephew had the pulled pork sandwich. Both had nice smoke rings, tender and juicy. Amazing BBQ. My boyfriend loves the Brunswick stew; I usually get the brisket and it's always cooked to perfection. Staff are nice, and restaurant is cute with local decor on the walls. It's seat yourself style so it has a nice laid back vibe to it. Sauce caddies are available for the table. One note - they do cater but we ordered to go once to serve for a small get together and it didn't hold well when we re-heated in oven that night. I guess see if they cater for smaller groups and don't do what we did because after raving about this place to our friends the quality wasn't the same. read more

Catering order nightmare!!! I ordered 2 half pans of macaroni and cheese but when I picked them up they were not cooked and very light and not full. So I complained about the portion size and was told what I ordered was a half of a half of pan for $40, I was told a regular half pan was $60, so I guess a 1/4 pan is $40 but that's not what I asked for and that is not what was on my receipt. So I needed Mac and cheese again so I said this time I'll order a whole pan for $80 and the owner Corey gave me 30% off for the issue with my last order. I go to pick up my full pan on Mac & Cheese and guess what, it's 2 half pans. Now I just placed the order the day before with Corey, and at pick up he said my receipt said 2 half pans so he wasn't sure. How were you not sure when I placed the order with you and the receipt says Full Pan (Large)? They are on some bs, I have ordered this same Mac and Cheese for a total of 4 times now. The pit guy needs to be trained in brisket butchery! So this is my second time patronizing this restaurant. And the first time I had problems, but I never left a review about it. But after this experience I can't let it slide. The first time I came to this restaurant I ordered a brisket plate. I told the cashier I wanted the point end (the fattier part of the brisket vs the flat end which is a little leaner). She relays that to the guy in the back, I even got his attention to let him know what I wanted. His reply was nodding his head and saying "I gotcha man, I gotcha!" I would get home only to find out that he ain't got me because he gave me nothing but the flat end. I'm thinking he must not know the difference. Anyway I eat the plate because I'm hungry and do feel like driving back. It was not too bad, so I just decided to go with "People make mistakes.". Fast forward to the 4th of July. I was going to do a brisket at the house but the weather wouldn't permit it and my wife and I really wanted some. So we saw that the BBQ place was open. We remember the brisket being okay, minus the slip up. Plus they were one of the few bbq spots open on the 4th so decided to pick up from there. So in order to insure we had enough food we ordered 2 lb of brisket, one pound flat and the other the point! So we got home, checked the carton, only to find he gave us all point end! Smh Not only that but the guy didn't even know how to cut it. When you don't cut meat against the grain you make it tough and stringy. I regret not taking pictures so you guys can see how bad he mutilated a beautiful piece of meat. Not to mentioned the meat (pause) wasn't even season well. And I expected the sweet heart to have some heat or vinegar based to be tangy but all the sauces seem to be sweet on sweet. I spent almost 60$ for that kind of experience!?!? Look, I believe in giving a restaurant a second chance after one mess up but after a second there will not be a third. read more
