I stopped in this place after years of driving by. I ordered some fatty brisket, which is my favorite type of barbecue. Now, I never write reviews, but this brisket was just so bad I had to warn other barbecue lovers not to let themselves down. The meat had no bark on most of the pieces, and also there was no smoke ring. Not sure if it was made in an oven or what. Overall it lacked that delicious salty smokey flavor that makes brisket so amazing. On top of that it was quite chewy and just an unpleasant texture overall. That said, the restaurant was clean and the staff friendly. I just hope they can improve their smoking technique to make the food worthwhile. read more

We just happened to be in the area and decided to look for a place where we could share a meal for a snack. The outside of the building looks a little rundown and it kind of continued on the inside. I know it's supposed to look like a jail or prison on the inside, but everything just look kind of old. The cashier was super nice and answered all of my questions and told me about the special. We ended up splitting the short rib tip plate with french fries and coleslaw. As we got our drinks, we sampled some of the barbecue sauces that they have. There is a huge selection of all different types. We sat outside on the back porch, which was nice. The meal was pretty good. I enjoyed the barbecue the coleslaw is standard coleslaw. I stopped here for takeout at lunch time on a Monday. It had been several years since I tried this place and I must say I really like the changes made! There are more than 10 sauces to choose from and I highly recommend the apple bbq sauce! I got a smoked turkey sandwich on Texas toast and it was delicious. And the fries?? First time stopping in and was really glad I did! The place is very clean, even the bathroom (which says a lot about a place to me!) and the service was quick. Food was made to order so it was hot and fresh. We tried 1 lb of chopped chicken, 1/2 lb beef brisket, fried okra and French fries. We liked the chicken the best, had great smoky flavor! I'm really sorry to leave this review. Over the last 7 years I come here. I even come here over the small parking lot guy down the street. I always try to support small businesses and solo places But this establishment has just gone down hill over the years. I suspect the business has changed hands a few times. Today is probably the last time I will eat here. The staff are friendly I will give them that. The food lacks that BBQ flavor. The brisket was dry and cold by the time I got it. Even the Mac n cheese was lacking. I dont know what went wrong but it's just wrong. Only things I enjoyed were my grandson's fries and the coke. The food is very good. I would say most of the time 8 1/2 out of 10 . The chopped or pulled pork seem as though they have a smidge too much water in them. The brisket is usually good. One time out of three it was a little dry. My personal preferences on the sides are okra, coleslaw, baked beans, or the greens. I like the sauces. I usually do a combo. I would recommend a little taste test before you pour it on your food. The people are always very friendly. It's pretty cool the place used to be a bank. You could Google and read about it. Located on Canton Road in East Cobb/Marietta sits a small BBQ joint in the parking lot of a shopping center with a pretty sweet ATL mural on the building and a large smoker on blocks in the parking lot...and that place is Smitty's Lockdown BBQ! I came in on a recommendation due to mentioning a recent craving I had for some good BBQ and my search for good Brunswick Stew...so a buddy and I ended up here one Saturday afternoon to see what was up! While the building isn't much of looker for the outside, the interior is quite nice, not large, but laid out well and was quite clean and organized. When you walk in, you are greeted by the counter which features a wall of chalk board menus for you to study before ordering. To the left of the register is the bar where you can belly up and grab you a beer. The dining room area features several tables of 2-4-6 tops, a drink station and in pre-pandemic times also featured a sauce station. Also, I can't forget to call out the jail cell seating where about 4 booths allow you to sit and eat behind bars! They also feature a small covered patio as well. Food wise, they have all the classic BBQ dishes and sides you have come to love. You can grab a single or double meat place, sandwich meal, wings, tenders, salads, desserts, sides and any combination of the aforementioned! My buddy and I opted for the (2) Meat Plate, which featured, you guessed it, two meats of our choice, two sides, Texas toast and house sauce. I will say that the price of $19 did seem a bit much at the time of order, but the portion sizes and quality proved the price point wasn't too bad. I got the Pulled Pork, Smoked Wings, Brunswick Stew and Fried Okra. The pork was smoky and tender, and once you tossed the sauce on it, you had yourself some solid pulled pork! The smoked wings were meaty, smoky, perfectly charred and did not require sauce at all! I got a good mound of pork and 6 large wings for the meat then they tossed a cup of stew and scoop of okra on the side. The okra was crisp and hot, so perfect. Now, Brunswick Stew is something always judge a BBQ joint by...if you can't pull off a good B-Stew, then you in the wrong game and luckily for Smitty's, they know what they are doing with this Brunswick Stew! It wasn't the best I ever had, but it is in the top 5 for sure! It was spiced well, great consistency, not too loose, but also not too thick and chalked full of meat and veggies, especially corn! Some folks would say that it is the sauce that makes the BBQ and if that is the case, then Smitty's makes sure you have plenty of options to do the thing! We only had the Original sauce on this trip, as I wanted to be a purest on my first visit, but they have some tasty sauces that I will certainly be having next visit including the Bama White, Bacon Bourbon and Triple S. Service was solid from entry to exit. The young lady working the counter was helpful at the time of order and ensured to check on us throughout the meal. Given the location, parking is plentiful overall, however spaces are limited directly in front of the building. Overall, Smitty's surprised me! I will certainly be back a time or seven when the craving for some smoked wings and Brunswick Stew hits! read more

We ordered online several days prior to the 4th for a BBQ that we were hosting for friends and family. We got a confirmation e mail which I printed out and gave to my husband as he was the one picking up the food. When he got to the restaurant, they were clueless. They said they had no order and would first have to prepare the food. They said it would take 10 minutes which we all know is impossible. My husband then left to pick up our dog from daycare and came back 20 minutes later and, big surprise, the food was still not ready. He waited another 15 minutes and finally the food was ready. They finally found the order which they had under a name that was in no way ,shape or form similar to mine. No compensation, just an apology. Food was good but they are so disorganized. This place was rough... probably the worst BBQ I've had in GA, but there's some hope. I know the owner reads these reviews so I'm hoping they take a look. I ate around dinner time on a Saturday night and it was just me and 1 other table. I got a 3 meat sampler (ribs, pulled pork, and brisket) w/ 2 sides, came out to $27... which I'm obviously willing to pay for good BBQ, but I will likely never eat here again. The good - service was fantastic, super friendly people. The restaurant layout is great, tons of parking, nice outdoor patio. Lots of creative sauces that were fantastic. The bad - the cooking! I think the recipes were ok - the flavor of the ribs was great and the sides were decent... but every single thing I had was massively overcooked. The brisket (which they charged extra for..) was basically shoe leather and flavorless. The ribs were overdone by what seemed like hours, almost inedible. The pulled pork was dry and chewy. Basically you have to drown everything in sauce for it to be edible. Charging this much for BBQ isn't unreasonable, if you can back it up. I hope the owner takes some inventory of whoever is preparing their food and can hopefully get this place back on track. Lots of potential, awful execution. read more

Food was pretty good overall. I tried several things: pulled pork, ribs, brisket, and sausage. My favorites were easily the pulled pork and sausage. Admittedly, I usually tend to prefer those items wherever I go but the ribs were decent. Unfortunately, the brisket was very dry. It was sliced thin enough that it still cut easily but it was dry and even their multitude of sauces were not able to revive it. The other person I had lunch with ordered the brisket as well though and their brisket looked very different, it was actually juicy and pulled apart easily. Back to the sauces though, they have a large assortment of various sauces that are all very tasty. When the collards are the best thing your patrons eat, and you claim to be a barbecue establishment, then you know there's an issue. It also doesn't help when you have a pallet of briquettes stacked in your dining room; real barbecue should be smoked using real wood, not chemically bound particles. Smitty's sauces are good, and there are a wide variety to choose from, however, the meat is dry when it should be succulent. I "sopped" one slice of brisket in the collard drippings to try and revive the meat, but it was still rather difficult to chew & swallow. The pulled pork had neither bark nor smoke ring, both critical elements in BBQ. Given their ability to make good sauces, I hope they can bring their meat game to the same level. read more

So you could see them pulling meat off the grill, fresh and hot! The inside was cute and clean. There is even a small seating area outside. We got there for lunch. We were the only ones being waited on and could not decide on what we wanted so we were giving right at the order counter..... a small sample of multiple items. A lil pulled pork, brisket, baked beans, potato salad, collards and mac and cheese. Wow! We were impressed. We both ordered a two meat plate so we would have dinner later (alot of food-$$, worth it). I got the brisket and turkey with beans and mac! The turkey was absolutely delicious as was everything else. My hubs had the smoked wing with ribs, collards and potato salad. He loved it! Oh don't forget the banana pudding on the side! Lol! It's our bbq go to spot now! You have to try it! Loved this place. Smelled the BBQ as I was driving by and knew I had to order immediately. And so I did. Our family had a lot of food! We had the smoked chicken, brisket, baked beans, mac and cheese, green beans, brisket fries, loaded baked potato, and corn nuggets. Everything was delicious (and it was enough to last us two days)! Anyways, I finally went there and man their food is dynamite ! Everything from the meats to the fires and beans were delicious. I didn't have to wait long at all for the food, and it was steaming hot like it was just pulled from the smoker. I think for what you pay it equates to the value of food that you are getting. To our surprise, the food was even better. When we got our food, we noticed the baked potatoes were doubled up. We were informed that the potatoes were smaller than usual that day and doubled up to compensate. We wouldn't have even noticed, but this shows a commitment to making sure we were happy. I'm so glad I did...I enjoyed the wonderful and above and beyond service! Elijah came from the back to take my order due to a crowd started to form. I was more than okay with waiting and I was set on the smoked wings but for sides, I hadn't decided what to get. My this place is decorated plain and simple but yet creative! The selection of sauces is plentiful. The TEA....OMG! My food was good...I only wish they served whole wings...they are hard to find in GA, as opposed to getting pieces. Nothing to get excited about. The portions are small and the prices are large. We would have gone elsewhere, but our time was limited. We debated on how many stars... 4.5 would be more appropriate, but considering four people didn't really talk at all during the meal except to try each others food rounding up was appropriate. Brisket had good flavor, corn nuggets are a must, pulled pork was good. While I personally was upset the bbq beans had too much bbq flavor... that's just dumb to be mad about. Corn bread is sweet, so if that's not you thing just note it. Peach cobbler is very bready and sweet not my thing, but boyfriend loved it. The homemade ranch is amazing. Driving by, the smoker on the corner pulled me in! The rib tips were very tender and tasteful! The chicken was smoked perfectly and full of flavor. The brisket was tender but it lacked flavor and fat. It was EXTREMELY lean.
