They were out of ribs for a while, so I ordered a brisket plate. The meat was tender but salty. I also had green beans and baked beans which were good but the green beans were salty for my taste. I do not normally eat salt. There was a long wait, but it was the holiday weekend. It's is primarily a take out restaurant, but there is bar style seating along the wall. Herb's description says "cozy," but I think that's just code for "we hope you enjoy eating while standing". The seating is so scarce I almost had to sit on my own lap. I tried the pork sausage sandwich, and while it was "fine," it was seasoned with the intensity of a gentle breeze. The bun selection was non-existent, and the one I got had a mid-life crisis and completely fell apart halfway through. Between the bland meat and the crumbly bread, I was basically eating a puzzle I didn't want to solve. To top it off, finding a napkin was harder than finding a seat. The only hero of the day was the rib sample. Those ribs were actually decent--tender, flavorful, and unlike my sandwich, they actually stayed together. So we initially went to Owens and Hull, they were out of ribs. We lucked up on Herbs Rib Shack. Boy am I glad Owens and Hull were out of ribs. The customer service was outstanding. While standing in line a young lady gives out samples of the ribs. OMG we changed our mind from a rib sandwich to a slab. I am a sauce person. These ribs do not need sauce. The ribs are tender but have the perfect pull. There is a flavor on the ribs that requires no sauce. The brisket is to die for, tender, flavorful and moist. We will return to this spot again. Hey guys I went to Herb's rib shack on today sun Oct 5th and it was highly recommended by a colleague. Sorry to say everybody's recommendations aren't solid. Parking is good and upon entering it smells lovely. I ordered the chicken and rib plate with potato salad and corn as they were out of beans. The chicken was tough and skin was rubbery. This is the worst brisket and Mac n cheese I've ever had in my entire life. I am so mad I spent $25 on this BS. Brisket is dry and the flavor is not good. I went over the holiday weekend and they were out of ribs (chicken and sausage were available) so they literally locked the door during normal operating hours so no one could get in, as if they were extremely busy (they were not) or something was going down in the restaurant. The service was excellent but I was not impressed with the food. The ribs were cooked well but super fatty. My collard greens were not edible. It taste like a garlic powder soup. There was way too much garlic powder in the overcooked greens. The baked beans tasted like canned pork n beans. Herbs is gem on Veteran Memorial. BBQ is consistently good, they provide good service and they give samples. Only complaint so far was the fact that they were not prepared for the July 4th holiday crowd. Ran out of food apparently and orders were not accepted online on Thursday late afternoon. Hope they learn from this and get ahead of Labor Day. This won't stop me from taking a drive if I have the time to wait on my order. Also note they are only open Thursday- Sunday. read more

So I'm editing the review b/c the fact still remains that the ribs are on point. But I've had them 3 more times since my initial review & the sides have missed every time. The Mac & cheese has been so bad every time I've thrown it away after one bite. One time the flavor was just off, the other time it was dry, but this time it was so dry that it tasted like flour mixed with cheese crumbles. The only side I'd recommend at this point is the potato salad. The green beans & baked beans are ok, but taste store bought. So I came by here last Saturday with my grandmother and we picked up four slabs of ribs. I just happen to have got a free sample of the rib tips and it was memorable because of the juiciness, but also the bonus in the seasoning and rub and that spice. So I was coming back from Charlotte and I said let me stop and get some rib tips so I go in the first thing I noticed is clean, but it was extremely hot. It wasn't like that Saturday so whatever I'm here for the rib tips cause when I try that free sample. It made me remember those red tips so I come in the lady gave me a free sample of rib tips, but then she came back and gave me a sample of the turkey tips. I ate the turkey tip and it melted in my mouth. It just wasn't the same amount of bonus and spice that I got from that rib tip that Saturday before, but it was turkey and it was still melt in my mouth and good so I said OK that's good right there so I ordered my real tips platter got extra rib tips because I didn't want no sides. I also got the sausage sandwich because my grandmother said that's good there too and also got a piece of sweet potato pie. I get home. I took a bite of that sausage sandwich. I was in heaven. It was moist flavorful and it had that right amount of spice that I like. So then I open up my rib tip plate and I'm looking and I'm starting to get upset because I'm noticing the first three tips that I grab aren't rib tips they're chopped up pieces of rib and it threw me back to a restaurant that I've been to that said they had rib tips, but it was really chopped up pieces of rib that is not rib tips rib tips do not have the actual bone they have the cartilage which is white or clear. So as you will see in the picture, the one picture where the rib tips are at the bottom of the plate. The chopped up pieces of rib are on the top part of the tray. So that is why I gave three out of five stars because I was disappointed that you passed off chopped up pieces of ribs as rib tips. I fell in love with rib tips in south being Indiana, and I knew the right rib tips. You don't need a sauce, but also a sauce can complement it and make it even better. But I'm still upset as I even write this because I know it was 815 and they close at nine. I'd rather you come and tell me we don't have enough rib tips to make your plate and do you want something else but don't just throw chopped up pieces of rib And pass it off as rib tips . Lastly, sweet potato pie is too much nutmeg in that sweet potato pie, but also you can't even hold the sweet potato pie because the crust is soggy. I've never had a soggy crust. i'm putting pictures and video in just to show you because I'm at a point in my life where I really cook for real for real and sometimes businesses can't correct things if they don't know about it or if people don't write reviews and give their honest opinion. I'll be back maybe Saturday because I wanna come earlier in the day and see is the food still the same? Will I get the same plate like I got today? I'm sorry I will not try another piece of sweet potato pie. It's a wrap for that. But I will give them another chance on the rib tips only because it was a Saturday when I tried the free sample. I'm a come back on a Saturday and I'm a come early maybe around 1 o'clock so I know everything is fresh. It ain't close to closing, but I'm also gonna get another sausage sandwich cause that's that's fire.. but why don't y'all give them a try and let me know how it goes because I do really believe they serve good food maybe because it was close to closing and this is what I got. read more

Yelp Fam!! it's me yet again with a nother Yelp review. Ok, so yesterday I was in the mood for some ribs, but not just any ribs, I mean smoked-to-goodness ribs! My go-to location ( Thompsons BBQ) was closed so I decided to check yelp for other recommendations. I stumbled upon Herb's Rib Shack. Ya'll know me, I had to do a thorough review of the reviews to understand what was about to get myself into. Everything checked out. Good ratings, I was able to see various food pictures and even saw they allow customers to try out free samples. This place felt like home because it reminded me of locally owned restaurants from my hometown. The screened front door that leads you inside definitely made this place feel like home. This was my first time there but I felt the menus written on the wall and the digital screen were helpful. I decided to order the rib plate for a side I chose to try the mac and cheese and baked beans. I saw they had flavored teas and added peach-mango tea to my order. I got my order in about 15 minutes, which was fine with me. The food was good! I love that they cut the tips off the ribs and put them on the side. I liked the baked beans they were good, the mac and cheese hmmm not my favorite. I would still recommend this place. It's good to know that there is another spot I can count on for good ribs. Wow! Some of the tastiest bbq I've had! As we drove up, there were several very large, smokers and barbecue pits set out outside in the front of the parking lot with delicious ribs and chicken cooking inside. As we walked inside, we were greeted, and the attendants behind the counter were very friendly, and we even got free samples of rib, tips and chicken. The meat was so good that it did not even need any barbecue sauce on. It had a little bit of a kick to it as well. We got the chicken and rib platter, which also came with rib tips and our two sides were baked beans and potato salad with two pieces of bread. Our meal was perfect for two people. The owner was also there and he was very friendly. Interior, the ambience is nice. There are a few tables set up. From what we were told that they usually sell out early on, so we got really lucky since it was rainy out. I purchased full slab and half slab and beef sausage meal. Not sure if it was a full slab because they gave my half rings and looks like rib tips or the bad cut off parts of the ribs I'm guessing that's all they had left. Ribs are very tough and chewy and they have to much pepper my kids could not even eat them. The sausage looks like a hot dog not a sausage link so be prepared but it was tasty . Ribs also had a lot of fat enjoy at all. Maybe they were over smoked. We also got the smoked chicken plate and it was very good but still a lot of pepper like it's to spicy. This place ribs are off the chain, I was in there talking to Xavier and he was telling me about there move and some catering options, when a lady from the kitchen brought a sample of a rib tip out. I just held on to it until I walked out, as I left I munched on this rib tip, hands down the best rib tip I've ever had, I actually dropped this in the parking lot after two bits and picked that sucker back up to finish it off lol!! I then turned right back around walked in there and ordered a rib plate which came with 3 ribs and around 5/6 rib tips. The aroma of seasoned smoke fills the air, and it's always enough to make me crave some BBQ. After hearing all the hype, I finally decided to check it out. I stopped by on a Friday afternoon and ordered two slabs of ribs with sides of potato salad, green beans, and baked beans. I called in my order, and when I arrived to pick it up, the parking lot isn't huge, but there's plenty of space to park and grab your food. It seems like most people pick up their orders since the restaurant isn't really set up for large groups to dine in, so it's more of a stop-and-go spot for lunch or dinner. The staff was really friendly and helpful, and I've got to give them credit for great customer service. As for the food, everything was well-seasoned! However, I was expecting the ribs to be fall-off-the-bone tender, and unfortunately, they didn't quite live up to that. I sat down and ate some of my delicious rib plate (2 bones, rib tips) with Mac & Cheese and corn. Ribs had perfect smoke and flavor and just downright perfect. I don't know where to begin with Mr Herb's Rib shack. The food was the best barbecue I've had since I've relocated to Georgia in May. I'm a person who loves flavor. The flavor at this place is amazing. We ordered the full rack of ribs with rib tips and a chicken plate. As I walked in, Mr Herb was outside relaxing, watching his massive grill cook. You can see the smoke upon arrival and smell the flavor. Mr Herb greeted every customer and thanked them for coming. When I walked in, I was greeted by the staff, and one of them members came and gave me a sample without me even asking. They had me at the sample. It was so Damn good. It was a rib tip. FYI, the barbecue has a little spice to it. For desert, I got sweet potato pie and my brother got peach cobbler. They were both delicious like my mom makes. After reading the reviews, I was like huh?? Did Ya'll eat at the same place we did. The Good - The Service, the young man at the counter was friendly. Place is clean and inviting. The Bad- I am not a BBQ expert but I've had BBQ in TX, Kansas city and many other cities. I compare any BBQ place in ATL to Fox BBQ, as Fox is my Go to. Today, I wanted to give Herb a try. The brisket plate = $24 and ooh my, it was over cooked and tasted like they added a spicey seasoning to the meat, there was nothing exciting, nor was it juicy, it was medium thin slices but tough. Hubby had the Herb Special-$34 or $32. 4 meats, Sausage, rib tips, ribs, chicken Hubby called the ribs, Jerky ribs(like beef jerky), they were dry, spicy and also tough. The beans?? He said it tasted like they threw a can of beans in a pot, added few pieces of meat and that's it, beans were also dry. The one plate system is not good, cold potato salad on one side, and greens other side. The liquid from the greens ended up in the potato salad. Cole slaw, Nothing special either. I believe cold food should be served separately. Overall, unfortunately this place goes on our first & last list.
