It's a little place on Canton Road in the plaza with Big Lots . It used to be a flower shop. I've noticed it for a few years and never had a desire to stop by. With very limited places to eat because of the coronavirus I decided it was time to give it a try. The smoker in the parking lot will certainly lure you . I ordered a pulled bar b que chicken sandwich with cole slaw and a drink came with it, but I didn't get it; because I do not drink sodas. They only had sodas. It is pretty pricey, while I was there I realized a half rack of ribs, with Mac n cheese plus my order is 30.00 and this doesn't include drinks ... just a scenario I'm not sure if I was charged for a drink considering it was a combo. I'm not that concerned I just know it was pricey . I was so hungry I didn't care at the moment. My sandwich wasn't cooked with the sauce , I was giving a side of sauce and the meat really wasn't pulled ,instead it was diced chicken. I must add it was full of flavor , it wasn't dry and it smelled like a charcoal grill which I love that smell and flavor. I prefer my sauce marinated in the chicken , but the chicken was good enough that I was ok without it .Therefore I didn't add the sauce . There was a hefty amount of meat , I had to take some of it off and save it for another sandwich. I'm not a big meat eater and I couldn't contain the bread with all of that meat. This isn't a complaint, I'm just saying . I asked them to grill my bread which was Texas Toast . I don't like soggy bread with bar b que and toasting or grilling it will help prevent it from the soft , mashed , soggy texture . The bread was good ! The cole slaw was fine . It wasn't too bad , it wasn't dry or sweet which is good for me. I hate too dry, too sweet or too soggy cole slaw. I must've gotten a dud serving the first time. Their green beans and fried okra are also great. What is not to love?! I thought that one of the bigger local barbecue places was my favorite until I happened to be driving down Canton Road and could smell barbecue as I drove past. I decided to pull over, go in and eat that day and I have been back many times. Every meat that I have tried there has been tender and fabulous. There is a great selection of sides, my favorite being the corn fritters. And let me tell you, the french fries alone are worth paying a visit to Lockdown Barbecue. I have never had fries that were so perfectly done before. The selection of sauces is more than you will find elsewhere. My personal favorite is the coffee barbecue sauce. Often times, I go to a place, and then I open up a draft to review the place when I get some time, and then write about it when I feel like I have a nice chunk of time to write about several places at the same time. But every now and then, I go to a place where I'm blown away, and I feel like writing about it immediately so that I can try and contribute a little bit of giving back by virtue of leaving a glowing review. Smitty's Lockdown BBQ definitely falls into the category of the latter. To cut to the chase, Lockdown's ribs were the best ribs that I've had in a long time. I look forward to getting them again the next time that I will most definitely be going. I'm always on the lookout for good bbq, especially since one of the last places I really enjoyed going to closed down. I've actually driven past this place many times, and always thought to myself to give it a try one day, but never actually made the effort, for whatever reason that seemed silly now that I know how good their food is. They're located close to the corner of Piedmont Rd. and Canton Rd. in Marietta, and they're pretty easily accessible via I-75, I-575 or by local roads. They're a standalone structure in the same shopping center with a Big Lots, as well as the East Cobb DDS, so they're the perfect place to go to after you've been in line for 2 hrs. trying to get a driver's license. Many others have pointed out that the building used to be a bank, and consider my mind blown away again at finding out how they didn't bother taking down the security bars, and instead worked it into the identity of their entire restaurant. Going inside, it's easy to not even notice the whole bank thing unless you knew about it ahead of time, because it's pretty standard and no-nonsense inside. It's clean and relaxed, but there's nothing that characteristic about the inside, except for the gigantic mural behind the security bars that you can choose to eat inside and feel a little incarcerated. The menu is large and contains all of the staples of a good barbecue restaurant, from pulled pork, beef brisket, ribs, chicken/wings and a large litany of traditional sides. Because I'd never been to the place, I was about to go with my standard first-time order, which would be a two-meat plate, but Lockdown offered up a sampler platter at the same cost ($17) where I could get _three_ meats instead, to which I gladly ordered so I could try the pulled pork, ribs and smoked wings. Another interesting aspect about Smitty's is the sheer number of sauces they have; seriously, they have around ten different sauces ranging from traditional sauces, Carolina vinegar, mustard, Alabama white, so a bunch of special and experimental sounding sauces. Their coffee-based sauce was very much to my liking, although the sweet tea was a little too odd for me. Needless to say, I hoarded like four bottles at my table while I tried my food. The sampler is this ridiculous platter that I truly feel is a massive bang for the buck, with how much sheer meat was on the plate. The smoked wings have a fantastic flavor on their own, or they go great with the white sauce. The pulled pork is smoky and not too dried out on its own, and went well with just about all the sauces. Their 3S sauce (sweet, smoky, spicy) went well with it, but frankly their regular smoky sauce I think was among my favorites. But back to the ribs, they were frankly perfect. I saw them coming inside from the grill in the parking lot when I got there, and I was super excited when I saw them on the platter. They're nice and dark with a really good exterior char, and if you're a fan of burnt ends, these are the ribs for you. They still pull off the bone pretty easily, and they're chewy, smoky and very flavorful. No sauces necessary on these ribs, and I know that I'm going to get them again, despite wanting to try other things on the menu as well. And if nothing else is as good, I could easily see myself becoming a regular with ribs like these. Not to go unmentioned, their sides are also very good. The beans were pretty normal, but their collard greens are nice and hearty, with a little bit of tang that I require in my greens. My wife's mac & cheese was also very good, and she had nothing but good things to say about their green beans, corn on the cob, as well as their banana pudding. The two of us ate very well for a little over $30, with most of it coming from my troth of meat, as well as fountain drinks. And for as much food as you're getting, I think Smitty's Lockdown is a tremendous bang for the buck. Overall, I can't say anything bad about first impressions. Staff is friendly, value is very favorable, and the food quality is top-notch. The real test is how they are on repeat trips, but make no mistake, after the ribs I had on my first visit, I'm very much going to come back, and I'd recommend it to anyone based on this first trip. Best local bbq I've had in a long time. The 18 sauce options were amazing. We tried nine of them and all were great. (Triple S, lockdown original, and pokey mustard were my top 3.) I got the pick two meats plate. Brisket and ribs with collards and potato salad. The brisket was tender and full of flavor. The ribs were amazing as well. The potato salad was some of the best I've ever had and the collards had a ton of meat so the texture and flavor were both on point. There was plenty enough for two people honestly. Not even close to average at this place. We ordered at the counter at 7:25pm on Saturday night and were told it would be 10 minutes. 35 minutes later, we got our food. I inquired about it twice during that long wait and was curtly told they were working on it. After you order, they give you a number to put on your table. One 4-top table was empty but no chairs. Two other tables had numbers on them but no people. Patio has 3 tables and a huge bench. Definitely not enough seating and the seating in this little room in the back is weird with gigantic benches that are bumped up against the other benches. I think their number card system is really lacking as two girls came by several times asking each table "did you order the 5 wings? Did you order the banana pudding?" No one ever checked on us or offered to clear our table or anything that would justify the big "tip section" on the i-pad that you sign when you order. Hmmm, I hope those girls aren't depending on tips as their salary. My smoked 1/2 chicken was really bland and the skin was loaded with fat, like it may not have been smoked long enough. The fried okra was really good tho - fresh and definitely not frozen. My son had the 1/2 rack of ribs - they were juicy, served with really bland potato salad. We both had the brunswick stew - meh. It tasted like it was made with tomato sauce. I found one lima bean in mine, my son had one tiny potato in his. Food delivery person said they were out of knives - it was challenging to eat a 1/2 chicken and rack of ribs with just flimsy plastic forks :( Horrible smell in the bathroom hallway. First time here. Right off the main road. Before you even pull into the parking lot you can smell the meat smoking on the grill they have outside. Spacious place inside if you have a big party. Visited this location today. It smelled amazing as we walked in and the young lady had great customer service. She described the multilple bbq sauces they had and what they paired with. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw and onion rings. I also ordered a 1/4 lb of sausages. The pulled pork sandwich was disappointing. The meat was lukewarm and the bread was soft as if it had not just been toasted. The pork had no flavor so I drowned it in some of their great sauce. A friend ordered the ribs and said they were pretty good. The mac n cheese is a mixture of cheeses and again just ok seasoning wise. This place has run hot and cold for us - sometimes it is 4-5 star good, sometimes it does not "taste right" - not that it is bad or made us sick, it just did not taste the same. The sauces are what make this place for me - wide variety of sauces and flavors. Speaking for the BBQ only - pulled pork is good - a bit chunky but good with just the right amount of crispy ends mixed in Sliced brisket is some of the better brisket that I have had in this area The restaurant is in an old bank building and creates an interesting atmosphere. There is a bar area that appears to be currently used for storage, so it looks a little strange. I hope they are planning on a liquor license to get that cleared up. Our family enjoyed wings, ribs, pulled pork, corn nuggets (yum!), okra, collards, Brunswick stew (really great!), potato salad, then managed to split some peach cobbler with a scoop of ice cream and banana pudding between the group. The sauce selection is generous. They must have more than 10 options! They provide small cups for taste testing. This restaurant took over a vacant florist shop and overlooks a shopping center, but you wouldn't know it walking in or from the food. Even better: they did a surprisingly good job of making the back patio *not* feel like it's overlooking a Big Lots (Dogwood trees and restaurant signs kind of box it in, in a good way). Eating outside was really pleasant in the high 70's. We're so excited that our area finally got a great BBQ place. Average food at best. I suppose great tasting food is in the taste-buds of the beholder. I read so many AWESOME reviews about the barbcue so I figured I MUST TRY IT. Mac & Cheese was ok. No where near as good as the reviews. The beef brisket was pretty okay. Not great but not bad either. Just ok. The green beans were good. But the skin from the potatoes floating in the green beans was terrible. The peach cobbler was more like cobbler peach; as it was just pure bread and crust with virtually no peach. The meal, uber charges and tips and service charge came up to $32. I would not have mind this cost at all if the meal was an A+ but the meal was definitely a C minus. When I'm craving for some good BBQ, I'll definitely come here again. The staff is super friendly and my boyfriend and I were there when they were handing out their Brunswick soup as testers, so free food is always a plus! How this restaurant works: You go to the counter and order and then go find a spot to eat (outside in the patio or inside at one of the tables) and wait for the staff to deliver your food. My boyfriend and I went outside on the patio and it was nice, especially with the breeze What I ordered and my thoughts: I ordered the beef brisket plate with two sides for $12.99. I got mashed potatoes and their corn nuggets (the corn nuggets cost $0.70 extra). The beef brisket with the hot BBQ sauce was great. If you like a well-balanced fat and meat on the brisket, then you should give this a try. The corn nuggets were also very yummy--it's sweet, but it compliments the mashed potatoes and brisket well. However, there were only like 7 nuggets and with an extra $0.70 charge, I wonder if it's worth it. The mashed potatoes was also in a small portion. My boyfriend got the half rack ribs for $13.99 with broccoli and fried okras. Some of the broccoli were raw and uncooked while others were good and well seasoned. But, they were very generous with their broccoli. The okra was solid. No complaints there. The ribs were delicious though. Definitely recommend it. Service: The service was spectacular. Very friendly staff and food got delivered fairly quickly. So no problem there. Location: This restaurant can be seen from the street and is located in a shopping plaza, so plenty of parking spaces. Brisket plate with cole slaw and M&C - brisket: a good amount of meat consisting of ends and coarse chop. Worst M&C I've had in memory - BBQ sauces: wow, they have a lot of choices! I went with the original, which was just fine, and the spicy, which is actually quite hot for a BBQ sauce. In the end, I mixed the two. Prices are typical, meaning you'll pay more for lunch than if you go to most non-BBQ places. Service is solid - my order was taken promptly and the food came out (twice) in short order. No complaints. I came here for lunch and thought it was a good, solid choice for BBQ but nothing was too out of the ordinary. It's a fast casual place where you order at the counter and they bring the plate to you. There are fountain drinks and a station with several different types of BBQ sauce that you can sample from. I had the pulled pork platter, which comes with a slice of Texas toast and two sides. The pork was very moist and the serving size decent but not huge. I tried a little of the mustard sauce and the regular sauce and both were good. The beans were good and not too sweet and had an unusual flavor that I can't really place. The cole slaw was average. Service was very quick and friendly, and for a fast casual place it was unusual and nice for the lady working at the counter to come out later and ask if everything was ok. There are plenty of tables and a counter in the inside area and a nice patio. There were a few screens around with some games on. Service hasn't particularly improved since they opened and they continue to struggle with register operations.
