I'd been wanting to try this place for a long time, ever since I started a list of Atlanta biscuit spots. The Red Eyed Mule has been consistently recommended as a top-tier place to get a biscuit in the greater Atlanta area, so I figured I'd finally give it a go. I got the spicy chicken biscuit, along with another biscuit on the side with some cheesy scrambled eggs and a side of country sausage to build my own SEC biscuit. First of all, the biscuits are HUGE. They're the ultra-soft, buttery, pull-apart-but-not-in-a-flaky-way type biscuits, which I enjoy. The spicy fried chicken was good on its own, but nothing outstanding. The country sausage was good, too. Don't get me wrong--I liked everything I tried. That being said, I didn't find them to be anything that had a "wow" factor, so I am glad I ended up trying multiple items just in case I was underwhelmed. I overheard a local in line talking about their corned beef hash, which he said was not your typical dish straight out of a can and onto the flat top, which, for the record, I have no problem with. But man am I glad I gave it a go. The corned beef comes in large chunks of shredded pieces, clearly taken from a big corned beef brisket and then mixed in and cooked with small diced potatoes. This was my favorite dish, by far. I'd come back just for that. I also tried their cheese grits, which was better than usual at a diner style restaurant. The customer service was awesome, and I really enjoyed the atmosphere in general. Worth noting it backs up quickly. I got there at 9:02, 2 minutes after they opened, and there was already a line at the door. I'll be back with friends for a dish of corned beef hash and grits, and I'll probably get a biscuit on the side just to enjoy on its own or with butter and jam. read more

Being a former southern resident, and now frequent return traveler, I've enjoyed many places similar to Res Eyed Mule. But few that were comprehensively excellent! Our food on both days of our visit to Marietta were very good. If the southern eggs Benedict are available on their specials board, have at it! The eggs and gravy were perfect, and the cheese grits were among the best I've had. As good as the food is, the people are outstanding. As friendly as people can be, and attentive without being any disturbance. The restaurant is spotless, and the parking is expansive. I come into town around every year or two, and this is now on my list of those places I will visit on every trip. read more

This place is legit. I got the sausage egg and cheese biscuit with patty sausage and a chicken biscuit. I will say the sausage egg and cheese biscuit was the more buttery and crispy biscuit. The biscuits were so fluffy and held their own against the gravy which was out of this world on its own. My mom got an omelette and loved every bite. My husband got the corn beef hash and apparently it was the best he had ever had, and that's really saying something! It's a tiny place but it is so charming and inviting. This is a hidden gem for breakfast and brunch. If you like biscuits you gotta come here. I can't saw enough at the biscuits!! Every time I come I'm like I need one to go! They are so nice and fluffy and buttery.. and huge! In the flip side I'm a grits girl and based on everything I read about this places grits I had to give them a try. So I tried them twice and each time I was like no. These are not 3 cheese grits and they are missing something. Overall I would not recommend the grits but that's me. Everything else I've had has been on point. The service is good. You come in and order at the counter and they bring the food to you. Hands down the best chicken biscuit in the metro area! And so much more. I absolutely love this place. The corned beef hash is addictive and delicious. The burgers are good. Portions are very generous!!! Seriously, I cannot finish most of the dishes. The mule basket feeds both of us! Service is very prompt and friendly. The restaurant always seems very busy yet we have always been able to easily find a table and parking. (Some kind of weird voodoo going on with that!) Despite the crowd the dining room feels comfortable not overly cramped. You stand in line, place your order, find a table, fetch your coffee and shortly your food arrives. The staff are ridiculously good and offer smiles all morning. Overall every time we eat here it is a wonderful experience. We leave with happy full bellies and smiles all around. We'd been here 2 years ago after the Cobb Co. gem & mineral show to mixed results - I recall a long wait for food & we had to sit outside on a chili day. Today (also after the gem show) was much better. Seated inside (it looks like an old Waffle House or Huddle House-type place but that suits its style), we got burgers, which seem larger than expected & come on Texas toast. They're reasonably priced but the sides are $4 for fries (large enough to share), $6 for onion rings (good). Plus, the server said the o-rings first brought out weren't enough, so they went back & cooked more & brought more out hot. Nice touch. Good tea & Coke fountain products. Other than bringing food out, there's not much service needed but they do clear the table for you. read more

This place was a little different in that you have to order your food, then sit down and they bring it to you. I ordered the corned beef hash and my wife had the Mule Basket. I have to say, corned beef was handmade and the biscuits were amazing! It's definitely one of the best breakfast I've had in a while. My wife loved her meal as well, the sausage and gravy along with the Mule chips were great together. The grits were pretty good too. The size of the plates served are pretty good, definitely enough to fill you up with a little left over. The only thing I didn't like here is the coffee, it definitely needs some work. I have had this place on my "want to try" lists for some time. Mostly for it's burgers. I finally got the chance to go and wasn't disappointed. The location seems to be a retrofitted diner with some counter space and seats similar to Waffle House. In fact, I would bet it was an old Waffle House. They have several outside seatings as well, but I decided not to sit outside due to the heavy. My order consisted of Jakes Sloppy Slaw Burger which has what I guess is a Sloppy Joe type chili and coleslaw topping. I didn't pay attention, but i would have asked for cheese on this, which would have probably held onto the slaw or sloppy jimmy more. This sandwich was what Food Network rated as a top pic for Atlanta. With it, I got an order of Onion rings as well. The burger itself was nicely done at a Medium temp. It was juicy and had just the right amount of seasoning to it. It didn't have any smokey taste but the Sloppy Jimmy and Coleslaw added a bit of a sweetness to the bites. The burger is more close to a melt than anything as it's placed between two buttered texas toast slices. This actually made it easier to pick up, but the sloppy Jimmy and Cole Slaw still wanted to escape a little. Please eat in the safety of your home or table. :D The onion rings were very tasty as well, but maybe a little too salty. The salt was in the batter from what I could tell as I didn't see any salt thrown over it and it was more saturating into the rings than anything. I was never offered any sauce, but had they had a fry sauce of some kind, I think it could have further enhanced the flavor or experience overall of the onion rings. I think I would still prefer these over the fries though. Decorations in the location are all Western Farm like. With the name Red Eyed Mule, I imagine I'm eating at a diner in the middle of Texas maybe, or Oklahoma. Somewhere desolate and boring, but this place brings joy, because you got a good burger in your hands. I would recommend eating here at least once, It's not my favorite, but it's a decent burger overall. read more

I was really craving a really good hamburger and decided to come to the red eyed mule. FYI, the Resturant is going to be packed! So be patient. They're a lot of locals and regulars that come here. we were able to get a seat fairly quickly! we both ordered hamburgers with lettuce, tomato cheese, onions, fries, and a drink. The hamburgers are really good. The only thing I wish is that we had a choice between Texas toast and a regular sesame seed bun. That is my only grip. I prefer buns over Texas toast. My go to is the sloppy slaw burger with onion rings but today they were out of slaw so I went with the Dakota burger instead. Really good. You really can't go wrong here. Quirky little breakfast/brunch diner. We arrived around 12pm on Sunday afternoon and there was literally a line out the door. You place your order at the counter station then seat yourself. The restaurant is quite small with limited seating but the service is fast and the tables seemed to turn over quickly. There's also counter seating as well. All of the food was flavorful. I had a breakfast special that included 2 blueberry pancakes, eggs and bacon. The pancakes were fluffy, a bit tough, but still yummy nonetheless. My husband had the Hamburger Steak plate, which included 2 eggs, cheese grits and a biscuit. He also had biscuits with gravy. The cashier was pleasant. They make orders fresh so expect to wait an appropriate amount of time. I had the burger with pimento cheese and bacon and a side of sweet potato fries. The burger was great! You can tell the patty was seasoned. The bacon and cheese had great flavor too. The fries were slightly burnt. I'd like to come back for breakfast because the menu looks good. AMBIANCE The Red Eyed Mule (TREM) is very diner-like inside, with a good amount of seating. They have outdoor seating, which includes tables with chairs and picnic-style tables with umbrella shades. SERVICE There's always someone working the cashier. You order and pay first before sitting down. They'll take your name and call the order once it's ready. They sometimes bring the food to your table. It just all depends on how busy it gets. FOOD There are a few favorites I recommend. If it's your first time, try the biscuits and mule chips (TREM's version of tots). The biscuits are well balanced: fluffy, chewy, crispy edges, and buttery. No complaints. - Fried Chicken Biscuit: The fried chicken is a good size. It's lightly battered, and the seasoning is good. However, the biscuit is the star here, which makes it even better. - Sausage Biscuit: Again, the sausage is good, but the biscuit elevates it. - Grits: Delicious! Pictures looked great, but when we arrived it was clear this place has seen better days. The green space / park we were looking forward to walking in afterwards was also a bit run down. Nicole ordered chicken and waffles, and I had a special which was a southern style rendition of eggs Benedict, smothered in gravy and a side of cheese grits. It was heavy goodness.
