    Smothered Biscuit

We love trying places we have never visited before. Today we tried Derek's cafe. Great diner atmosphere. 60/70's music playing in background. Great vibe! Service was quick and efficient. Breakfast menu is pretty standard fare. I had the smothered biscuit. Eggs were cooked nicely, the biscuit was ok, but the gravy was very tasty. The grits were good. When I asked if they had cheese grits I received the grits with a slice of cheese on top :). However, once mixed in it was good! My son had pancakes. He liked them ok, however he has a very high bar for pancakes. Overall I would return if nearby. Tasty breakfast diner as you would except.

We were looking for a quick simple breakfast and this was the place! Very simple and classic dishes. Reminded me of eating at home but I didn't have to cook! It's a very diner vibe. Seat yourself and pay at the counter. Our waitress was great even though she was very busy. Not a huge place. We'll go back to try more dishes!

My elderly mother -- a weekend guest -- loves corned beef hash. Though I hadn't been to Derek's in years, I remember they touted their homemade hash. Based on Yelp reviews, I was hesitant to return. Since moving to their snazzy new location, did this once great hole-in-a-wall fall to the wayside? NO, they did not! First off, if you want an omelet, skip the Marietta Diner. Derek's has different options; I ordered what I guess is their signature dish, "Derek's Omelet" with sausage, bacon, green bell pepper, onions, tomatoes, & topped with cheese. I don't use the term "perfect" often -- but this really is. Too big to finish, I brought half home. The grits are delicious. Better than Cracker Barrel's, which I always liked. The only negative are Derek's biscuits. They need to be served toasted and hot. Otherwise, they're tasteless and dense. My mother gives the corned beef hash five stars. "I forgot to tell them that I like it crisp," she said. But no need. That's apparently how it's prepared. Yesterday Georgia's governor lifted COVID requirements. Too much too soon, in my opinion. But I was happy to see that servers and cooks behind the scene (I peeked!) wore their masks. Regarding the wait staff -- some Yelpers complained about poor service. Management must have taken comments seriously because they were all staffed up with pleasant and efficient people who frequently checked in on us. If you prefer dining al fresco -- generally my choice -- there are three tables out front. You can seat yourself inside or out. Note that the main portion of the restaurant is divided in half, each with its own television. One side aired MSNBC, the other Fox. Derek's not only serves delicious food -- but they're apparently politically neutral. Smart move!

The food was fire, ambiance is about what you'd expect from a greasy spoon. Go for the food alone! Yum.

I would like to thank Derek's Café for consistently providing hearty, fast breakfasts at extremely reasonable prices for #Thankyouthursday! I am a huge fan of their coffee - not sure how they make it so delicious. It is a no-frills diner but always busy when so arrive. Despite the crowd, they serve customers quickly! We need more local breakfast (and lunch) places like Derek's!

After driving past this place for years it was time to give it a try. So I tried a nice Mexican dish because it had jalapeño's and I love them especially fresh ones. It was surprisingly very tasty but the hash browns were not as appealing. Server was very attentive. Definitely a good breakfast spot.

It even has a drive thru. My personal favorites are the gyro, the party melt, and perogies romano, but everything I've had here is consistently good. The servers are always top notch and it's constantly busy, even at midnight in a weekday. Truly a must visit if ever in the neighborhood for an authentic diner experience.

Some things never change, the portions are massive and the service is quick, friendly, and efficient. I ordered a club sandwich, my wife ordered a tomato with chicken salad, and our son ordered an egg sandwich. We ordered an appetizer of onion rings, which of course was a mistake due to the amount of food in our order. The onion rings came out first. Large order with ranch dressing. Crispy and hot. They were very good. Again, I understand that is really doesn't take much to prepare a club sandwich but it was very good and the bacon was crisp and smoky. My wife and son really enjoyed their meals and spoke of how delicious they were. Again, massive portions. Friday morning our son chose the Marietta Diner again and we had breakfast. I ordered the deluxe pancake breakfast with home fries. My wife ordered Eggs Benedict, and our son ordered pancakes and bacon. Unlike many places, these pancakes don't rely upon syrup or toppings for their only taste. they are simply good. Bacon was cooked perfectly for my taste. The home fries were delicious and a massive portion. Again, I could not finish everything. Our son agreed with me on the taste of the pancakes. My wife loved the Eggs Benedict with the only complaint, one egg was cooked perfectly runny and the other overcooked. Service was fast and efficient again. If you are in the area and looking for quality food, good service, and a huge variety to satisfy anyone in your group, this is the place to go.

As I was preparing my coffee, the customer behind me--who appeared to be of the same race as the cashier--also ordered an orange juice. I immediately stated that I had already been sold an orange juice and asked what I was expected to receive. I was then told I could have apple or cranberry juice instead. This interaction left me confused and concerned, as the only apparent difference between how the two transactions were handled was race. Regardless of intent, the situation gave the clear impression that I was treated differently based on skin color. Experiences like this are unacceptable and deeply troubling. All customers deserve equal and respectful treatment. If you are tired of racism in any way shape or form stand up and do not support this. Unfortunately, as someone who has eaten burgers all over the world the Trucker Burger was disappointing on many levels. First of all, it felt like a misleading description to describe the burger as having two "smash patties". These were definitely not smash patties under the traditional definition in my opinion. The bun was good, but the burger patties themselves were far too plump, lacked bounce, had no caramelization in the edges and were not juicy on the inside. It tasted like a burger you'd find at your neighbor's backyard BBQ with a general lack of flavor and course texture like the lean to fat ratio was off and the burger was cooked on too low a temperature. The staff was very friendly and the food came out quickly. Unfortunately, the burger was a let down and extremely overpriced. You're better off going to a fast casual spot like Freddy's where you can get a great smash burger for much less.

As a first generation Cuban-American born and raised in Miami and married to a Cuban man, I am happy to report that Cuban Diner is the real deal. This is authentic Cuban food that is as good as the Cuban food easily found all over Miami. We started with croquetas and mariquitas. I ordered the bistec empanizado, hubby ordered the vaca frita, my son ordered the ropa vieja, my MIL orders the palomilla, and my FIL ordered a papa rellena and tamal along with a natural guava juice. We all shared bites of our plates with each other and everyone agreed that everything was absolutely delicious. My favorite was the vaca frita, so I stole a good bit from hubby and I also loved my FIL's guava juice. Service was good, but we got there shortly after opening so we had the place to ourselves. We noticed as it got busier, service definitely slowed considerably, but there was only one server for the whole place and one more handling to go orders. The one server did a fantastic job despite being the only one for multiple tables, but I did notice one couple left in frustration when they were not attended in a timely manner. I loved that they offer a total of 3 sides with the entrees, so you don't have to compromise on sides. I really enjoyed our meal and will be back to try more things on their menu soon. I definitely recommend Cuban Diner, but urge you to pack your patience if you go when there is a crowd. The good news is that the food will be well worth the wait!
