We loved the food here. The omelettes and scramble options had a nice amount of veggies, meat, and cheese on them. I also like that they aren't heavy on the salt. The children's options are a great value if you have a little one. My only concern is that when we went in on our first go, I know that I ordered French toast for my child. When the waitress brought out our food, my child had pancakes. When I brought the error to her attention, she seemed rather quick to say I was wrong about this. I let it slide because we're not going to have a giant argument in a restaurant with wait staff over a small infraction like this. I get the feeling that our waitress may have an issue with accountability and would've continued to argue had I not given her an easy way out and said "It's ok, we will settle for this. Don't worry about it." She responded by offering to bring out some French toast anyway, which was kind, but flat out telling your customers that they're wrong is maybe not the best way to go about this to have a healthy, trusting relationship. My husband even confirmed that I had ordered what I said I ordered afterward. Maybe some staff training regarding approaching situations like this would be appreciated, such as having wait staff confirm orders once the entire table has started their orders prior to transferring orders to the kitchen would help eliminate this issue. Breakfast menu is pretty standard fare. I had the smothered biscuit. Eggs were cooked nicely, the biscuit was ok, but the gravy was very tasty. The grits were good. When I asked if they had cheese grits I received the grits with a slice of cheese on top :). However, once mixed in it was good! My son had pancakes. My elderly mother -- a weekend guest -- loves corned beef hash. Though I hadn't been to Derek's in years, I remember they touted their homemade hash. Based on Yelp reviews, I was hesitant to return. Since moving to their snazzy new location, did this once great hole-in-a-wall fall to the wayside? NO, they did not! First off, if you want an omelet, skip the Marietta Diner. Derek's has different options; I ordered what I guess is their signature dish, "Derek's Omelet" with sausage, bacon, green bell pepper, onions, tomatoes, & topped with cheese. I don't use the term "perfect" often -- but this really is. Too big to finish, I brought half home. The grits are delicious. Better than Cracker Barrel's, which I always liked. The only negative are Derek's biscuits. They need to be served toasted and hot. Otherwise, they're tasteless and dense. My mother gives the corned beef hash five stars. "I forgot to tell them that I like it crisp," she said. But no need. That's apparently how it's prepared. Yesterday Georgia's governor lifted COVID requirements. Too much too soon, in my opinion. But I was happy to see that servers and cooks behind the scene (I peeked!) wore their masks. Regarding the wait staff -- some Yelpers complained about poor service. Management must have taken comments seriously because they were all staffed up with pleasant and efficient people who frequently checked in on us. If you prefer dining al fresco -- generally my choice -- there are three tables out front. You can seat yourself inside or out. Note that the main portion of the restaurant is divided in half, each with its own television. One side aired MSNBC, the other Fox. Derek's not only serves delicious food -- but they're apparently politically neutral. Smart move! read more

Low volume hits from 80's and 90's but not loud so you can easily hold convo; it's faintly in the background. Viva La French Toast is excellent but they have everything. My go-to breakfast diner. I got an swiss bacon mushroom omelette with hashbrowns; the omelette had no cheese inside, just two sad slices of cheese drooped over the top; the hashbrowns had no salt. Tasted like the food from an old folks home. As far as ambience: every surface is covered in advertisements as though you were eating off a dang NASCAR. Again: no idea how so many people rate this place highly, it is very bad. I almost never leave reviews, but it was so bad I felt compelled to leave a warning for others. The menu is unique, it has lots of options, and it's very cheap. The food FOR THE PRICE is excellent. Here we had the chicken and eggs benedict and a Derek's breakfast. We also added on some other options as well so we got to try a good amount of the menu. Without describing the all the details, I feel every component had the same thing we can say about it. Everything we had embodied very good flavor and was quite good. We liked it. It was however quite obvious this is not top of the line, A class products and other things are not from scratch. We know the waitress who was serving us and we follow her to anywhere she works because she's awesome. But I lost my appetite. We just paid our bill, tipped our waitress, and left - plated hair fully visible. Today, we decided to try again. When they were fairly empty at the tail end of breakfast, we revisited Derek's. While we did not encounter any sanitation issues on this visit, today we did experience a number of issues. Our order was taken after two tables that came in after we did. It took almost 30 minutes to receive our food from the time we arrived. The eggs were cold, unseasoned, and undercooked, although the rest of the food was quite good. Our waiter, a tall, thin adolescent-looking young man, was unresponsive to our needs. When we provided feedback, the young waiter was passive-aggressive and unprofessional, which further detracted from our experience. As a result, we would like to bring these issues to your attention, as we believe that they may impact the overall quality of your restaurant. We hope that you will take the necessary steps to ensure that all staff are adequately trained to provide excellent customer service. read more

You do the math... Had the French toast. Taste was good, simply made. Also had chicken biscuits. It was good but was disappointed it wasn't southern fried chicken, instead it was a chicken nugget. Note: This review is regarding my one experience at this dump about 3 years ago. It was bad enough to stick with me this long afterward. I heard a lot of good things about Derek's so I dropped by to have breakfast one day. Okay - just yuk. Nothing good at all about the food. Nothing. I could've driven another 500 feet to a Waffle House and had a much better meal. Wouldn't go back again on a bet. And the kicker? My debit card number was stolen and used within a couple of days of my visit to this place. Did the staff at Derek's steal the numbers? Let me start by saying the people here were very friendly. That's where the good news stops. As I was eating I noticed some dark colorations on the plate my fruit was adorning. I noticed black marks around the plate. It easily wiped off which meant either it wasn't cleaned or I was served something not clean. I took various pieces of fruit and examined them. I used my white napkin to clean some of the fruit. The napkin quickly became dark with dirt. At that point I didn't have much of an appetite. If they're not cleaning fruit what else are they not cleaning? I decided to cut my late lunch short and leave. I felt nauseous as I walked out of the place. Food fresh and hot. The Derek's was excellent. Turkey bacon crisp and flavorful. The eggs were cooked bit more than over easy, but still good. Hash browns were great with salt and pepper to personal liking. Biscuit was excellent. The gravy was good and perfect as an "on side" order. Nick kept watchful but distant eye providing just right amount service. As leaving, the buffet was being set and looked great! Would absolutely recommend to all!
