I had an extremely disappointing experience at the Rick's Cleaners location on Jollyville, and I cannot recommend it. The moment I walked through the front door, I was hit with an overwhelming odor that smelled like rancid, fermented mildew mixed with heavy incense. It was so strong that it was honestly nauseating. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, thinking, "Surely my clothes won't come back smelling like the building. They'll be freshly cleaned." I couldn't have been more wrong. Every single item I picked up had absorbed that same pungent, fermented, mildew-like odor. The smell had completely permeated my clothes. It was so overwhelming that I was literally gagging each time I tried to smell them. I can't imagine wearing these clothes in public, let alone putting them back in my closet. As it stands, every item now has to be cleaned again elsewhere, assuming the odor can even be removed. To their credit, I contacted Rick's Cleaners before posting this review to give them an opportunity to make things right. Their solution was simply to re-clean the clothes at the same location. Unfortunately, that isn't a reasonable solution when the problem appears to be the environment itself. I have absolutely no confidence that sending my clothes back into the same facility would produce a different result. I asked if they would at least provide a partial refund so I could have my clothes professionally cleaned somewhere else. They declined, leaving me to pay twice to correct a problem that I didn't create. If you're considering using this location, I would strongly encourage you to walk inside first before dropping anything off. If you notice the same overpowering odor that I did, think carefully about whether you want your clothes exposed to that environment. Based on my experience, I won't be returning to this location or using Rick's Cleaners again. I sincerely hope this review helps others avoid the same frustrating and expensive experience. read more

I've been coming here for years and have only ever had positive dry cleaning experiences. If you need a super stain removed, this might not be the right place, but the price is right for regular cleaning, I've never had any items lost or damaged, the in store service is fast, and regular clothing items come back in 2 days (household items like table clothes or bedding take longer). Yes, the shop is a bit dumpy...but to me, that doesn't matter. Working as counter staff seems like maybe not the best job in tbe world, but the staff is friendly and helpful and most have been hete a long time. I'll continue to bring my business here. read more

I don't usually get clothing items dry-cleaned so I wasn't sure what businesses were good and which ones to stay away from. I was in the Arboretum area and made the decision to give Rick's Cleaners a try with a tux (jacket, pants and shirt) of mine after I had worn it for an event. When I walked in I was greeted immediately by the workers behind the counters. I was asked what I was wanting dry cleaned as well as the fabric material, which would inform them on what method would be best. Sylvia, who I believe was the business manager, took care of me very well and it added to my experience. The pricing for the three items was affordable and great. The turnaround time was quick, I got my items back within 4-5 days. Inspected everything and it was all spotless and perfect. I had such a great experience I immediately took another tux of mine some days after. One thing to note: when checking in on Yelp a coupon comes up for a "free item to be dry cleaned"--they had issues getting the coupon to process in their system--I decided to just pay for the item to be able to leave. they used to be so good but lately not so good. I have multiple blouses that have stains still on them, but have been "cleaned". I had a pleated skirt that got wrinkled in the dry cleaning basket that came back completely unpressed, totally wrinkled. Im honestly not sure if they actually did anything to my clothes aside from take them out of the basket and put them on a hanger. The clothing does not seem to be cleaned. They've also lost pieces of clothing in the past and did nothing to reimburse me. I suppose I should have learned the first time but a good dry cleaner in North Austin is hard to find. I dropped off a down comforter at Rick's Cleaners for dry cleaning when I went to pickup it had a very strong smell of perfume which the employees agreed. They dry cleaned and then washed four times to get the smell out, this has taken 2 months. Now the comforter smells like dirty socks and the store owner said that all they would do is give me back my money, absolutely no compensation for ruining the comforter. I gave them the comforter as it smells so bad that it is now ruined, the Owner had the employe give me back the initial charge of $30. and change and refuses to take any responsibility for ruining a $200. comforter. Zero stars. Go somewhere else. Here is what you can expect if you go here... Sylvia will ring up your clothing items incorrectly and then your clothes will be lost for weeks. When you follow-up, they will tell you that YOU are the one who lost your clothes. Then they will call back a few days later to tell you that they think they found your clothes after all (if you're lucky), but they're not positive whether it's actually yours or not... They will take another week to get them back from "their plant", then they will charge you at pick-up, because after all, it's YOUR fault that you didn't pay for them at drop-off... After Sylvia told me she thought my clothes had been found, I had to call their location and stop by in-person multiple times only to be told that "the boss hadn't sent them back to her yet". When it was finally time for pick up, not only did I not receive any kind of apology, discount or credit, Sylvia told me that "the boss/owner instructed her not to release the pants to me unless I paid for them". To whomever "the boss" is, I'm more than willing to pay for a service (which I did!), but don't blame your customers and then charge them for your incompetence. Best of luck to you. read more

Rick's is right next to my apartment and really low priced so I gave it a try. If I could give a zero star review, I would. And this is a couple of weeks after my horrible experience. I decided it wouldn't be entirely fair to sit down and write a scathing, angry, petty review the week they ruined my best suit...so I waited. And you know what? I'm still going to write a scathing, angry, although hopefully not petty, review. I don't own a ton of expensive clothes. I have one wonderful, beautiful, comfortable, well fitted, name brand, black suit with gray pinstripes...well, I had one. I picked up said suit, and another gray one, and took them home. They looked clean and well pressed and ready to go. Four days later when I went to put on my beautiful black suit, I heard a slight ripping sound and stopped, one leg in...the silk lining of my beautiful suit was ripped to shreds. Not one little hole. Not one of those "string pulls" where the seam had unraveled. TWO gigantic rips across the front of the legs and the ENTIRE inseam through the crotch was practically shredded. I won't be ashamed. I cried. It was heart breaking. I went back to the store, showed the girl at the counter the damage, and she took the pants, the original receipt I brought her and informed me the manager was only in from 7am to 3pm, M-F, and she would let her know. Ok, fine. I get a phone call two days or so later informing me that 1) it looked like the pants had been worn again (they hadn't); 2) I needed to provide an original receipt (I had); and 3) due to store policy this needed to be brought to their attention within 48 hours of pick up or they were not responsible. My pants were available for pick up at any time. The next day, I went in at 7:30am and was told the manager was out sick this week, but my pants were ready if I wanted them. I called the number they told me to reach the manager and left a snippy message. I subsequently got another phone call informing me that "rips in the lining of clothing [were] not [their] responsibility." I was offered no money back. I was offered no compensation to have the lining fixed. I was essentially told, "Sorry, not our problem." I have NEVER been so angry at a business in my life. Ever. DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS if you value your clothing; because apparently, your clothing's well being is "not their responsibility." read more

I don't know what they washed it in or what it was next to but it smells so sweaty. Definitely will not be going back. Dropped off a long dress, short dress and button up shirt on Monday 7/26. Was told everything would be ready to go by Wednesday 7/28 at 5 PM. I swung by Thursday at noon and was told they weren't ready. Turns out the long dress was ready, but the other items weren't. Asked for an idea of when the others would be ready, was told the weekend. I asked if I could get some type of refund, was told by Sylvia that she would reach out to "Dale" because she couldn't do anything at store level. I understand and that's fine. We'll talk when I come pick them up. Still not ready on the weekend and get a text on Monday 8/2 saying all clothes are ready. I go in to pick up the other clothing items, remind her of the situation and ask hat refund can be done by Dale. Never reached out, but took down my name for Dale to reach out to me. This was Monday afternoon and I haven't heard anything back. $25 for three trips and five days late just feels like a rip off. read more

I've used them for FIVE years and had ZERO problems getting men's shirts laundered. And they've never missed a promised clothes back date. I will share the "worst" experience I ever had. I had a maybe 4 year old dress shirt I brought it, with a button that had fallen off before at the last cleaning, because the fabric had worn out. The shirt was like $20 from an outlet mall, and I'd expect it to be at the end of this life. It was the top collar button so I didn't really even care if it was fixed. They repaired it without me even asking. That's the closest thing to a problem I've ever had, and couldn't be happier. That said, I got cocky and thought all dry cleaning was just naturally great. I recently tried delivery service with MW cleaners at the Kenzie at the Domain. It was 30% more base price, and they damaged a shirt. Long story short it too 4 phone calls, 3 weeks, and missed promises to get it back. I literally had to call the VP of Operations with the 4th call at the other place. Absurd! I immediately returned back to ricks cleaners, and my recent load was as good as always. I'd rather grab my clothes on my way home from work, than deal with the 4 phone calls to a higher priced cleaner. read more

Wow... where to begin.. first of all, they double stapled all the dry cleaning identification numbers to the tags in the back of my shirts! Since when am I supposed to have to take a staple remover to my dry cleaning?! Next, they stole all the button cufflinks (which i usually keep in because they are a royal pain to remove) in the french cuffs of my shirt, which I probably should have expected since there's a big sign in there saying "we are NOT responsible for lost or broken buttons." which I should have interpreted as, "say goodbye to your button cufflinks, jackhole!" However, I'm not knocking off any stars for that because I think, as Jesse points out, that's part of how they keep a low overhead. Unfortunately, I think they also keep costs low by doing a half-ass job of cleaning and pressing clothes. The laundered shirts are okay, but my dry-cleaning from here has been consistently shabby. Stains are not effectively treated, garments are awkwardly pressed, and my clothing now has a powdery feel and chemical odor. I would not take business suits or nice dresses here for cleaning. I used to take my work clothes here all the time to be dry-cleaned. I never had any issues and the prices are some of the best I've seen. Also, I love the 7am-7pm hours which is great for the working people of Austin. The only reason I don't go anymore is because I cut back areas of my budget and dry cleaning is something I can live without. I still take an occasional piece there every now and then. read more

The finished product (my laundered shirts) turned out well, and picking them up turned out well too. But dropping them off - ugh, the worst. I walked in about 45 minutes before the store closed, and the woman at the counter told me that they were closed and I'd have to come back another day, when she saw the shock on my face, she laughed and said she was joking. As she was checking in my shirts, I tired to make small talk with her, but she complained about working 12 hours a day due to being short staffed. Have been going to Rick's for last couple of years. Although I had heard bad things before going, at the time the price was worth the try. For the first year I had a few broken buttons and one issue where they were hesitant to replace one but they went ahead and sent it back in for a cleaning and fixed the button. So for the price I was happy. Unfortunately in the last year I have had more regular issues where pretty typical sweat stains on the neck or under-arm were not removed. I'm not one to go through each garment while I'm still at the cleaner, b/c I assume the job was done well. The first time I brought it back I got questioned if the clothes had actually been cleaned at that location. After they looked they confirmed I had brought it there before and then re-cleaned. Now that this has happened a 3rd time I'm going to look elsewhere for a cleaner. I just don't have time to take back clothes that with a simpler stain it isn't removed the first time. read more

Caution, Dangerous Chemical burns! My wife got Chemical Burns from this Cleaners. When we got our clothes back for Ricks Cleaners on Jollyville Rd. we noticed a smell of chemicals on them but didn't really think much of it. My wife wore a sweater to lunch and within an hour her skin was burning. She had whelps and rashes all over her body. She is also pregnant so we are very concerned. I called the store and ask to speak to a manager they gave me another number, I called that number and a lady told me to call another number, when I called that number they said no manager was available and said call back tomorrow. None of these people seemed to care are offer to reclean my clothes. I told them I want my money back and the lady said no, your clothes got cleaned. I have been going to this and other Rick's for many years. This last time they messed up my dry cleaning order. Someone else's pair of pants was included with my other pants when I went for pickup. I took it home and found it was same color but not my size. Next day I took it back and gave it to Sylvia hoping somebody will return the WRONG order like mine in a few days. Been there half a dozen times by now in last 5~ weeks. (its 10/19/18 today). No care, no response, absolute callous behavior by the manager. Very rude. One of the stupid response was "those have to be your pants". My question - DO I NOT KNOW MY PANTS?? How irrational the world can be? I know one should not generalize ! Worst Dry Cleaner ever!!! And I use Rick's at a different location. My son dropped off his expensive suit to be dry cleaned on Saturday and told them he absolutely needed it by Monday at 5:00 or before. They said they would have it. He called them 3 times on Monday afternoon and 3 times they told him it was almost there. Then it's 5:00 and guess what - they can't find it. He has another interview for medical internship the next day in another city and we have all been waiting to leave with him. No suit. Air b-n-b paid for, my work rearranged, his schedule super tight because of these interviews, and they don't know where it is or maybe they can find the driver, but he's on 183, except they don't know where because they forgot to ask. He was there but he didn't include the suit with the clothing he unloaded. If these were my employees, they'd be fired in a nano-second. Finally go there and wait until 6:00 when they find the suit. Don't go here! Don't trust what they say. They SUCK!!! And I'm no longer going to take my own clothes or my elderly parents' clothes to ANY Rick's Cleaners after this experience! read more
