We were happy to stumble on this place on a walk from our house and loved the fun vibe (minus the fog inside from the kitchen). The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The house made spring rolls were fresh and delicious. However, our entrees weren't as amazing, unfortunately. My husband ordered the crispy rice at the server's recommendation and he requested the filet (additional $6). I ordered the Pho with beef (small size, which was more than plenty!). My Pho had very tasty broth but the beef was thin and extremely tough. I couldn't eat it. My husband's crispy rice was tasty but loaded with tofu (more than I have ever seen) and maybe three small bites of filet. We were confused why it had both tofu and filet. When we asked the server, she said they were small pieces of filet and they still serve it with tofu. This was confusing as we paid for the up charge and got tons of tofu instead of all filet. They have really have a great atmosphere here and are very welcoming. The rolls came in alllll kinda of varieties which makes it hard to choose just ONE. The broth of my pho was very clean. I'm usually very picky about my pho cause I feel some pho spots make the broth to sweet so I drown my bowl in lime and siracha but this bowl was well balanced. The cuts of beef were very tender. I've been here twice, and the food and service has always been excellent. The second time, we had some really great cocktails. I was impressed that they served me a mojito made correctly- the traditional Cuban way. It's very difficult to find a good mojito in AZ! The pho was delicious and flavorful. I love the multiple options of spring rolls they have. They have some creative choices that you can't get anywhere else. The patio is very cute and cozy, and actually what initially drew me in. I've been curious about rice paper for awhile. Vietnamese food isn't usually very vegan friendly, but they have several items marked vegan on the menu so it's been on our radar to try. We ordered the tofu and shiitake bahn mi (minus the mayo), crispy tofu and enlighten me fresh spring rolls. My husband enjoyed the bahn mi. The bread was flavorful, the mushrooms were cooked well and the tofu was perfect. He got the garlic fries with it - which were thin and crispy. I had the enlighten me fresh spring rolls - which included tofu, jicama, vermicelli noodles, jalapenos, and sriracha sauce. They were served with peanut sauce. The rolls were very spicy - too much so for my husband. I pulled out the jalapenos, but other than that thought they were excellent. The peanut sauce was very good - thick, slightly sweet and with a nice savory peanut flavor. It's not the very best I've ever had, but certainly better than most in Phoenix. We shared the fried tofu. It was interesting, but I haven't decided if I liked it or not. The breading was very sticky/almost caramelized, and very thick. The lemongrass flavor was intense, and there was some other seasoning I couldn't put my finger on that I didn't like much. It was a little fishy tasting to me, so I hope they really were vegan. Could be a seaweed seasoning? My husband didn't taste the same thing as me so it might be just my palate. However, the tofu itself inside the breading was cooked very well - soft and silky, not chewy or dry as some fried tofu can be. The tofu was served with the same peanut sauce as the rolls. I think since the breading was so flavorful, the peanut sauce didn't add much. I probably wouldn't order them again, but I am interested in going back to try other vegan options and have the spring rolls again! The restaurant was quiet (we were there mid-afternoon on a Saturday) and cool. Most of the dining room is taken up by the bar, with tables around the edges. Rice Paper is the worst excuse for Vietnamese food I have ever eaten. Service slow and inattentive. I started out with a Bloody Mary,the worst I've ever had. As best as I can figure they mixed it with 7 UP,sweet and was fizzy. It was beyond gross. There over priced Pho only comes with rice noodles,I prefer egg noodles.The broth had a funky sweetness not appetizing. The hot chili sauce normal Vietnamese restaurants serve isn't an option here. My glass of ice tea was never refilled,the place wasn't busy. There are a lot of great Vietnamese restaurants in Phoenix this isnt one of them. After coming regularly for 2 years the best spring roll is the surf n turf, the Bruce lee, and the double trouble if you want shrimp. The lobster puffs are delicious, pho and steak meal is the BEST. This spot deserves a little more hype because the outside of the bungalow looks a little deceiving but once you enter, you'll love it! Overall good is good but their Pho chay with vegetarian broth was AHMAZING!! and one of the biggest reason we will be returning back to this establishment. Now the drawbacks are definitely serving time and staff can be bit inattentive at times especially if you're sitting in their outside patio. The building appears to be an old house that has been flipped into this little restaurant. Our server was friendly and attentive. He was swamped with business and was working hard! They have a small and large option for pho, and I opted for the small... which wasn't that small and perfect if you're not one to finish a large bowl. I loved it and I am not big on soup for dinner. I will say I was surprised at how filling it was and how delicious. Everything is so fresh so you can tailor the items going into your bowl of Pho as you prefer so that it's really easy for you to blame yourself if it's too spicy or not enough or if you prefer more herbs or lime or etc... Wanted to give this place a go based on some of my friends feedback. Parking entrance is off of 7th street via narrow path. The parking is really small and there is not much room to maneuver. The place itself is quite small but has indoor and outdoor seating. We tried the fire cracker shrimp, the pork spring roll and the chicken pho. The pork spring roll was ok. They do have a variety of combinations and choices which is nice. The shrimp was basically just fried shrimp with spicy sauce. Nothing special. And unfortunately I did not like the chicken pho broth. It was pretty late on a Monday and I was feeling a little bad for stopping in for pho with little more than an hour until close. However, Jimmy (or was it Jim) the bartender was so awesome and in high spirts that my dread of being there late faded quickly. I had pho ga and it was delicious! The small serving sir is plenty for one. I wish I had room for a spring roll because they looked amazing. This spot also has a pretty good happy hour, or hour rather. With all the different specials throughout the week and weekend, people can find a great deal on some killer Vietnamese food!
