We walked in on a weekend and the place was busy. It is a small shop with two tables, and enough seats for maybe 8-10 people and some standing room at the counter. The service is fast, you order at the counter, and then can seat yourself. They also have sauce and seasonings on the side. When we first arrived there was no space to sit, but by the time our food came, we were able to get seats. I ordered the beef rice ball and the salmon rice ball. The rice balls were just ok, they tasted mostly plain, with not a lot of filling.
A really disappointing visit. The onigiri/rice balls are a decent size but it tasted pretty bland, as did the sides. The chicken, while tender, was obviously poached before briefly finishing on the grill - my chicken has a layer of coagulated protein around it... which was a little off-putting. What made this a disappointing visit though, is without a doubt the terrible service I received. The lady working behind the register was more interested in her phone than taking my order/providing recommendations (I just got a mumbled reply when I asked). When I left and said bye, I was met with a glare. Rude staff and mediocre food. I won't be coming back.
Cozy organic Japanese spot in Fort Greene :) I love Onigiris so I thought should've stopped by. I was ordering 3 onigiris but realized If you order more than two onigiris, I would say should try the bento box which is so worth it! ($15) I got Chicken Bento box and you can pick two sides and you can add $2 miso soup! :) The grilled chicken was Wooo I can tell very well marinated with Shio-koji! I enjoyed this Negi-lemon chicken a lot. Hijiki side was wonderful!! They use organic brown rice and very tasty! I got salmon and original miso-negi paste :) Both are good :) also got a Grilled sweet corn onigiri... which was the best. Overall, I wish the register lady would be helpful but what I expect for to go? I'll come back again.
I've heard of this place but was never in the area during their open hours until recently. When I asked for recommendations the person taking my order was very curt and mumbled so quietly I almost couldn't hear her. I got a chicken bento box which came with 2 onigiri and 2 sides. I thought the chicken was pretty tender, although it did have more fat congealed on the outside than I prefer. I would have liked if the onigiri had a bit more filling. Sadly the food was not as good as I've had at other similar establishments, and on top of that the rudeness of the staff made the experience unpleasant. When we left I tried saying goodbye directly to the cashier, but was ignored.

They make the onigiris with brown rice, but they hardly have any filling. With the plume onigiri, for example, it was more like a garnishment. This place showed signs of gentrification. When I was here, some tech people from LinkedIn started talking aloud about their work, so I thought I was in SF for a second.
My partner and I hit that weird time where it was too late for a big lunch but way too early for dinner. We came to rice and miso, got a two rice balls each (tuna and salmon) and a miso soup. This was the perfect amount of food that left us feeling good but not overly stuffed! Neither of us could decide which rice ball we preferred, they were both tasty. The miso soup was different than any other miso soup I've had before. The inside is small but very nice and has a few place to sit. They also have some seating outside if it's not too chilly for you!
4 stars, probably closer to 4.25. Rice and Miso is a fast casual place that boasts health and portions. The inside has limited seating, but people are in and out in 15 minutes or so. All of their bentos come with 2 standard onigiris and 2 sides which are displayed on the counter. The onigiris are pleasantly warm and made with brown rice (which I actually prefer). I chose the salmon and tuna mayo for my chicken bento. The tuna mayo was great, but the salmon was overly salty. The chicken itself is super tender and well cooked. They give a decent amount of chicken too, which I really appreciate. The sides are really cold, but are flavorful. I got the butternut squash and the wakame salad, but would probably try something else next time.
Such a good spot for a quick lunch! Walked over from downtown Brooklyn after craving simple Japanese food and this place really hit the spot. They have a small menu where you can get a bento which includes a protein, 2 sides, and 2 rice balls (doesn't include grilled rice balls) or purchase items a la carte. I ended up getting the salmon bento with salmon and beef rice balls and sweet potatoes and string beans as sides. It was a perfect meal when you're craving healthy comfort food. The salmon was good perfectly and I loved the salmon rice balls. The sides are served chilled and work great with the rice and protein. As a note I liked that the rice balls are made with brown rice which was more filling and added a great textural element to traditional rice balls. There's a small table inside and one outside if you're looking to dine-in or it would be a great takeout spot as well.
I ordered from here without knowing that they use brown rice for their rice balls. The brown rice was cooked nicely, but it made me realize that I prefer my onigiri with white rice! I placed a pickup order for their tuna mayo ($4) and grilled sweet corn ($5.50) rice balls. Sadly the nori got soggy by the time I had a chance to eat the rice balls, which made the experience a little disappointing. It would be nice if customers had an option to order their to-go rice balls with the nori on the side so that it stays crisp. I was surprised at how small the rice balls were for their price. The grilled rice ball was a little bigger than the tuna mayo rice ball and came in a soup container. The grilled one was seasoned really well with soy sauce and had a strong sesame oil aroma. The sweet corn inside the rice ball wasn't anything special. The tuna mayo rice ball had a decent amount of tuna mayo in it so that I could taste some tuna in every bite. However, in some parts with less tuna mayo, the rice was quite plain. In general I would not have minded if the rice was a little saltier. If you plan on coming here, I recommend getting the grilled rice balls (they also travel a little better since they do not have nori).
I cannot get enough of Rice & Miso; their food, though simple, is so delicious and satisfying. The quality of the ingredients truly shines through from the chewy nuttiness of the brown rice in their onigiri to the snap of the blanched and seasoned string beans (gomae). My usually order is the Atsuage Tofu Bento ($13), which features three delicious pieces of tofu covered with a shoyu, koji, and roasted onion sauce and comes with your choice of two onigiris (I always opt for the tuna mayo and the beef), two sides (my favorite are the wakame salad and the daikon slaw) and a miso soup. The homey, healthy fare offered here is fairly easy to make and I'm always inspired to make my own homemade bentos but their house miso and koji are always sold out whenever I visit. Rice & Miso gives me a lot of ideas and guidance for eating healthier and creatively, and that's what I love most about this place.
It's a small quaint casual spot with some seating indoors and 2 chairs outdoors. I got the beef and salmon onigiri to go. I received my onigiris pretty quickly shortly after placing the order. The onigiris are made with brown rice. Not the same as the 7/11 onigiris from Japan, but it will do for a light healthy lunch or snack to fill you up.

There is limited seating inside with One Four Top and One six top with lovely wooden Hexagonal prism stools. I ordered the Chicken Bento box with Ume and Classic rice balls with Hijiki Salad and Green bean salad. The rice balls were moist and not too sticky with a great neutral flavor. The chicken seemed more baked than grilled. Both salads had a good texture and flavor.
I was craving rice balls and have been wanting to try this spot. I got the bento box to share and an extra grilled beef rice ball. The sides are really good. The chicken is tender and lemony. The tuna mayo rice ball is a little bland. I'd definitely get the grilled beef rice ball and the curried cauliflower again.
Onigiris are having their well deserved moment right now. It's the perfect light lunch for hot summer days when you completely lose your appetite. Rice & Miso rice balls are rather simple with single toppings and limited sauce usage. What makes them stand out tho is the brown rice they use It's cooked perfectly with an amazing texture and a slight sweetness the more you chew. This place is so cute with the option to mix and match your own bento box with onigiri and lots of side dishes! I got the atsuage tofu with gomaae, hijiki, and a basic (black sesame) and original (miso paste) onigiri. My favorite was the miso paste onigiri. The black sesame was good but it was a little dry. If I were to go again, I would probably get the ume onigiri instead! The aestete of this place is really good but there's very little seating so it's more of a to-go place. read more
If I lived near this restaurant, I would eat come here every other day (at least). I pre-ordered online, and picked up right as a customer was complaining about waiting for her food because she couldn't wait any longer - should've pre-ordered like me. Salmon - perfectly salted and cooked, both warm and juicy. The skin was kept on, which always adds flavor to the salmon. Veggie Sides - both the Gomaae and the Pickled Radish gave a nice vinegary contrast to the rest of the meal, and I really enjoyed them. Rice Balls - you can't find decent rice balls in Texas (unless you want to overpay). Granted, these aren't cheap, but since they come with the bento, it's still a pretty good deal. I generally find rice balls to contain too much rice, but these were delicious throughout. read more

This place was amazing. Take out only. There's a small bench in front that can seat 2 people, otherwise there was no seating. The woman working was extremely nice and considerate from providing options for our entrees to offering us the trash bin when she noticed that we finished our food. I'll definitely be back here. The food was delicious and had a home cooked feel. I got the tuna and black sesame seed rice balls with chicken and two small sides. Sounds like a lot of food but this meal left me feeling perfectly satisfied. read more

Salmon Rice Ball + Grilled Beef Rice Ball - 7/10 The rice balls were pretty standard with the fillings being quite light in flavor. Definitely would go for the bento box. Grilled Chicken Bento Box - 9/10 The grilled chicken was extremely moist and the lemon scallion sauce was the perfect pair. Loved the side veggies they provided as well. read more
Rice and miso is a casual Japanese restaurant that has been on my list for awhile. I first came here at the end of February for lunch with a friend. Their set up is very casual, and while they do have some outdoor seats, these are best for people who are sitting and waiting for their takeout food, rather than lingering over a meal. There are no heaters or covers, and there is no indoor dining available. The food is ready within 15 minutes after ordering, and is served in biodegradable packaging in paper bags, making it ideal for grab and go. The first time I came here, I got the tofu atsuage box. They offer three bento boxes, with chicken, salmon or tofu as the main. Each bento box comes with two rice balls (customisable from their menu) and two sides (also customisable). Most of their ingredients are organic, and the food is inexpensive, but top quality, healthy and delicious. I came here twice for food that week, and will continue to get food from here while I live nearby. read more

This was quite the simple looking restaurant that serves simple but great tasting food. I was near the area looking for some sort of soup and Rice & Miso appeared on the search. Due to Covid-19 safety and restrictions they are not letting people in the restaurant but you can order at the door and either have it in their outdoor seating area or take it to go. I chose the latter, but it's good to have the option to enjoy it there! I ordered the Chicken Bento Box, with a Tuna Mayo onigiri and a Original onigiri ( scallion and miso paste), for the Osozai (sides) I had the Edamame and the Wakame (seaweed) Salad. Also ordered two Tuna Mayo onigiris for my friends to try. I also got the Yuzu Koji Soda. Food took a reasonable amount of time, and the server brought out to me while I enjoyed the sun at their outdoor area. The Bento Box really had the home made feel and taste! Definitely a Mama's food! Chicken was tender and juicy, seasoned just right to compliment the rice balls, the edamame wasn't dry and it was perfectly seasoned, without the salt sprinkles you normally see people just put on top. The wakame salad was also quite refreshing served with cherry tomatoes. The rice balls were so good! I am not a brown rice kind of guy, but I ate every last bit of it! The only thing that didn't sit quite well with me was the. Yuzu Soda, It barely hinted to the flavor of Yuzu and it was mainly just a seltzer. Additionally was a bit small for the price. My friends enjoyed their Tuna Mayo rice balls as well, overall, a nice place to eat the Bento Box is certainly the best bang for your buck! They offer a Salmon and a Atsuage Tofu steak version along with the Chicken, so everyone gets a Bento! read more

Everything about this place was perfect and I cannot wait to go back and try more food from their menu! The shop itself was super sleek, modern, spotless and I loved the jazz music playing in the background. I ordered the ume and original rice ball. I am Japanese and it was my first time eating onigiri with organic brown rice. It definitely had a different taste and tasted very healthy, but still VERY good! I seriously want to go back and try more things from the menu. Highly recommend checking this spot out! read more
I found this cute little spot through yelp, and I'm glad I stopped by. This is a small restaurant, it has a very modern and minimalist style, which is great! This place can get packed, people are coming and out. The women working the front was patient and answered my questions. I ended up getting two tuna balls, which were pretty good. They make everything to order, so be patient. I'll most likely come by again sometime in the summer to try some of the other items. read more
If you are looking for a clean, tasty Japanese lunch in a bright, unadorned space, you've come to the right spot. I feel like I could eat Rice & Miso's simple fare every day and be a healthy man.* They specialize in onigiri, and these brown rice balls flavored with tuna and mayo, or grassfed beef, or the original scallion miso paste will hit that spot if you have a craving. All are well constructed and served inside a sheet of nori, almost like a taco. I like to add a few sprays of tamari soy, but you do you. Personally, if I want a $4 snack in the hood I'm more of an actual taco (or empanada guy), so I prefer the more balanced meal and better value of the bento boxes.** The chicken option (tofu is the other choice that I've never made) comes with two onigiri, two osozai, excellent miso soup, and a few small pieces of shio koji marinated chicken. There's a hint of lemon, and they are perfectly tender and hugely flavorful, especially with the red yuzu kosho*** that offers a nice splash of color and spice. The osozai (sides) are what make the meal, though. Every one of these little salads has hit the spot so far. The gomaae, the curried cauliflower, the squash...get something fermented and you're going to like it. To be clear: this is everyday food. It may not blow you away, but it certainly feels like I'm taking care of my mind and body when I sit in Rice & Miso's minimalist space, listening to jazz and eating some fairly healthy fare. _____________ *I must say though, I often eat out because I can get food cooked with more butter and salt than I have the stones to make at home. This is not that place. **If there's one thing I don't love about this little shop, it's the very odd decision not to serve the bento boxes until 12 noon. You open at 11:30 am and there are like five things on the menu. Why not serve them all when you open, instead of waiting a half hour? Or just open at noon with the full menu? ***The owner of Rice & Miso tells me that this sauce is often green, but they prefer red because of the color contrast. Clean place and clean food as well. Nothing is over seasoned or over the top. Love the overall design aesthetic of the place. The rice balls are delicious. They use brown rice and offer it on its own or [2] in a bento box. They also have 2 grilled options (corn and beef). My favorite is the sweet corn and tuna mayo. Side dishes are good as well. Will try their miso soup and tofu bento next time! read more

I was very excited to spot this place on the map, it was the perfect lunch spot. Every bite of my bento lived up to my expectations and had delicious flavors. I had the tofu bento with a tuna and a salmon rice ball as well as curried cauliflower and edamame for my sides. If i lived here I would stop in all the time for a rice ball snack or a bento lunch or a refreshing tea. read more

Really great wholesome delicious Japanese food. Very fresh, great portions and prices! Perfect lunch stop. The bento box is such a good deal for the quality and how much food your get. You can pick a meat or do a tofu veg option, then you also get two sides and two rice balls of your choice. The sides range from seaweed salad, to curried cauliflower. I really enjoyed the green beans in a sesame sauce. Had a nice nutty flavor on top of the crisp beans. The rice balls were also really good! I liked how they were slightly warm and not like chilled like the rice balls you typically might find. Everything was cooked very well- tender, crisp veggies, soft yet firm rice, & tender salmon and chicken. I left here feeling satisfied and happy. Will definitely be coming back to try other options in my bento and I herd the grilled corn rice ball is very good as well. read more
