Michelle took great care in delivering great service to my family and I. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a venue or just a nice dinner on the waterfront. The staff have set up a superb atmosphere for their guests to wind down in. Great selection of wines and appetizers! John must have dined at a different restaurant because I've been here for three hours with open ears and eyes. My order came out in less than twenty minutes. I've only been to the Reef for their Sunday Bunch Buffet. It usually very good. If you ask for Augies section (he is one of the waiters), he will be sure to do crazy things like bring you a super long straw, or take your phone if you are using it, and start talking to whoever you're on the phone with. He is all in good fun but some people who are uptight might not be able to handle him so be warned in advance if you don't have a sense of humor. The food is fantastic though , eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, the usual.. cakes and pastries, chocolate fountain to cover marshmallows. Made to order Pasta station. Came for the buffet brunch. For $50 I was disappointed. Besides the bottomless champagne everything else was mediocre and not good. Came for a birthday and everyone had the same review. You order crab and "blackened" shrimp and all it is is cold shrimp and crab in the shell with a handful of seasoning thrown on top. The meat/shrimp itself is not seasoned so the seasoning is pointless. The waffles are airy and crispy instead of said and fluffy. The only items with decent reviews were the foods that you order; the sliders and omelets. Definitely will not be coming back. A waste of calories and money The service however was good. We walked in on a Saturday and we ask for table for two the lady said this it's busy today I said well can we sit at the bar she said I think so I think it's still happy hour. Everything is I think I think I think you work at entrance desk you should know if the happy hour is open or not. We took a few pictures and a happy hour section and then we finally sat at the bar it took them some time to notice us and then I finally asked someone could they help us and he took our order and that took a while for our drinks and food to arrive back to us. i waste a full drink and ask the gentleman could he clean this up he gave me the towel to clean up the drink and never replaced my drink. The bartender was not attentive at all I had to ask another bartender could he make me another drink and that was after 20 minutes and he did and it was a little better. We attended a wedding this past weekend here and it is a very nice setting. What truly impressed me was the gentleman who apparently was the site assistant for the wedding. He kept everything on track and was always smiling and very pleasant. The bartenders were efficient. The food servers did a fine job with our meal and all it entailed. I would suggest that the venue invest in a few outdoor space heaters. It got very cold in the evening and some well placed outdoor heaters could have helped. The fire pits just weren't enough. Sunday brunch is as fab as it sounds. We did ask to be seated outside and were ignored for like 15 minutes as the waiter clearly passed our table numerous times and refilled everyone's drinks and didnt even acknowlege us. That is generally a deal killer for me, but lucky for them I had passed the buffet and already committed. We asked to be seated inside and had great service. We went here to try the DineLA menu and boy we were unimpressed. To start out, we came on a Saturday afternoon and noticed that the place seemed slow (as in not so many customers, but later realized the service was literally slow). We were greeted and told it would take 5-10 minutes to prepare a table, which I thought was unusual seeing how there were many empty tables. We ordered the following dishes: calamari, clam chowder, prime roast French dip sandwich, pineapple bacon fried rice, lava cake (they were out of the tiramisu?!) Ratings: Bread and pesto/butter... warm, soft, tasty pesto, and best of all free! 5/5 Calamari... pretty standard except the batter kept falling apart 4/5 Clam chowder...no complaints here! 5/5 French dip sandwich...very soft meat 5/5 Fried rice... good presentation but lackluster taste. Short grain rice. Barely any pineapple or bacon 3/5 Lava cake... small and pitiful presentation. See picture 2/5 Our server checked on us only once and disappeared for the rest of the meal. We had to grab someone else to get the check and almost left to pay ourselves because it was taking so long. Very disappointing service. Went with a friend and orders 12 oz prime rib, it was delicious , also orders calamari, it was done right. We sat outside for the view under the shaded seated area. Beautiful view and good food. Clean place and nice workers and customers. I'll have to come back in evening time for the night light view. This place is trash. Absolute trash. All it's really good for is a nice view of the bay. The food is HIGHLY mediocre. The same type of bland, whack cuisine that would be served at a Holiday Inn continental breakfast buffet. And then they pretty much up charge all that just because they have some fancy halls and a picturesque view. The servers were all extremely rude too. We held an event here for family and they were super unhelpful and gave off attitude when asked for things. Honestly wouldn't come back here. The Reef is a beautiful Venue and the food is pretty good but I've had really bad experience with the event staff and attending their brunch. First Issue with Event Staff: I visited the restaurant in late August to book a Surprise birthday party for my mom for the end of September. I explained that the room HAD TO BE HANDICAP accessible. There was one room available which I was able to see from photos since it was being painted. Everything looked good including the menu but I advised I was not comfortable booking until I saw the room. I was told to comeback Friday. When I came back Friday the room was booked to someone else which was soooooo unprofessional. They didn't even give me the courtesy of returning Friday to see if I still wanted it. The event manager proceeded to show me another room..which was upstairs and NOT Handicap Accessible. Then showed me a loud OUTDOOR rooftop as if that would be acceptable for a 60 year old's birthday party. I was offered no alternative dates. They didn't call the other party to see if they were willing to swap rooms. Nothing. All I got was a "oh I'm sorry". I was unable to throw a party for my mom which was super important to me. To make matters worse I sent 2 emails to the restaurant regarding my experience and NEVER received a response. 2nd Issue: Even though I told myself I would NEVER support their business again. For my birthday weekend I wanted to enjoy a nice peaceful Sunday brunch with a nice view. So I gave the Reef another shot. It took 1 hour for my omelette and shrimp to come from the kitchen. My server only came to the table 2x in like 2 hours. Nobody came to clear ANY of the plates that I was done with. Empty plates were piling and flies were swarming and still nobody came over. I had to seek out the manager..who comped my meal but that didn't make up for the horrible experience. Never would of thought that this restaurant would have ruined mine and my moms birthday within a few months. I really used to love this place. Now it sucks that I wont be patronizing them ever again due to horrible service across the board. read more

Beautiful scenery if you sit by one of the big bay windows. Parking can get a bit challenging. I was here for a family gathering. We had good service and good food for a large size party. Went here for restaurant week LA and had a good time. We got a fried calamari, a salad and then fish n chips. The views and the ambiance are actually very nice. Right on the water with a great view of the bay down in Long Beach. Really enjoyed that. As to the food it was pretty good for the most part. The fried calamari came with an interesting sauce, Tomato based, that was pretty quality. Fish n chips was a little over breaded. I'm not usually a dessert guy but for dine LA it came with it, and here's where the reef lost stars. First there was a bizarrely long wait for the dessert. Substantially longer than any of the other waits. Then when my lava cake showed up it waS completely not a lava cake. It was a delicious brownie, but the point of the lava cake is the lava. This cake was solid through and through. No idea what messed up there, but otherwise it was a good place. Just skip dessert. read more

My daughter brought me here for Mother's Day. This place was really, really crowded. The food is good, but the lines to get the food are ridiculous and that was the most frustrating thing. While this restaurant has a long history & great memories, it apparently has changed management & is no longer maintaining the service, food or excellence of yesterday. If it continues down this disastrous road, it won't be here much longer. R.I.P. We had a party of 12 & an early 6:30 reservation, 6 individuals after having placed their orders were told at deferent times their ordered food items were not available. The waitress was rude & incompetent from the beginning. We had to bend to her rules & the customer was never right. She even argued & refused to delete ordered items on the check that were not provided. The food was inedible either from being way too salty or no taste or seasoning at all! How does a restaurant, which was quiet empty (now I know why) run out of 6 menu items before 7:30 pm? The most disgusting thing was when the waitress brought out cut up salmon after having previously told the customer that she couldn't have her ordered salmon because the last one had been dropped on the floor. She explained that the cut up one had been left over from a banquet! REALLY??? - it wasn't eaten because who could be sure which explanation was true! You've been warned & should avoid this mismanaged restaurant like the plague! read more

The Reef has a fantastic Champagne brunch on Sundays that I have been to a number of times over the years. There is a tremendous variety of high quality food available. The restaurant is in a beautiful location on the water with a great view of Long Beach across the bay. You have to try to get into Augie's section. He makes you feel at home, is very entertaining, and keeps everyone in the room laughing and having fun with him and the other guests. I do not know how he does it. Took my dad out for his 70th birthday and managed a great window view for a party of 11 on a Sunday night at 6pm. There were 2 weddings in the adjoining areas but the section we had was empty and quiet. As soon as we sat down we found ourselves killing a trail of ants on the window sill and a few stragglers that made their way on the table. I didn't want to ruin the mood for my dad who was at the far end of the table away from the windows so my brother and I took to the task of insect control ourselves. The service was great. We had one waiter who was attentive and accurate with our order. The drinks servings were hearty and the opening breads were fresh. They have generous sized meals and offer a pre-fix menu from appetizers to dessert that worked out great for some in our party. The rest of us ordered regular entree items. Quality of food was good, although thinking back now, it wasn't memorable enough for me to recall exactly what I ordered. Could have been the ants and the flies on the window that distracted me from really appreciating the meal. Had it not been for the insects, I might consider coming back but I may not. This is a review for a wedding event. I was the wedding coordinator/ planner (Mellie Bee Events) hired by my clients for their wedding on 1/25/2019. The wedding took place in their grand ballroom off to the left of the venue away from the reef's main restaurant. The view of the harbor from the ballroom was very pretty. The ballroom has their own build in dance floor, however it is kind of dated. My client did rent her own all white seamless dance floor and it definitely brightened up the room. Tall centerpieces were necessary to fill the room up, however the venue's standard draping with chandelier helped fill the room too, so not much decor is needed to be brought in. For set-up, the staff were all very helpful and friendly. They assisted us with whatever we needed. I am very glad to have coordinated here, as the view was spectacular. The Reef has a gorgeous view, and that's pretty much what you're paying for. The strawberry lemonade is good (no refills). Fresh lemon and strawberry flavor. The pesto sauce that comes with the butter goes well with the bread. The clam chowder was good. It was more creamy than anything else. My palate was begging for some salinity. I should've asked for oyster crackers. The clams were abundant and large, but the dish was still lacking that seafood brininess. The tropical ahi poke was refreshing. The tuna wasn't at the peak of its flavor but it was good enough. The large chips provided a much wanted crunchy textural contrast. The cucumbers and mangoes paired well with the tuna. This meal could have been four stars, but the hawaiian ribeye was a letdown. It seemed to be select grade, which is one step below choice grade. It was thin, and not too flavorful. I had a great experience with the hawaiian ribeye at Houston's, so I ordered this here because I wanted to compare. There is no comparison; the hawaiian ribeye at Houston's is far better, and it actually costs less. Spending $38 at the Reef for a Denny's quality steak just doesn't cut it. The bok choy seemed to be an afterthought. The "crispy" onion straws were soggy. The mashed potatoes were the best item on the plate. I ordered medium rare and it came out medium well. At that point I didn't care enough to send it back. The meal started with potential but ended lackluster. I probably wouldn't return unless someone else wanted to come here. read more

I was supposed to have my wedding reception here but it got canceled due to covid. My fiancé and I were told by Jaime that we were approved for a refund, and that our check would arrive within 30 days. Its been 3 months and we still havent received anything. I called and spoke to Nicole 3 weeks ago and was told once again that we were approved and would receive the check within 2 weeks. That check must have gotten lost in the mail because it still hasn't arrived. We are done playing games with the Reef!! I would think twice before booking an event here! It's our 13 year wedding anniversary so we decided to have a date lunch. The view is amazing. My vegetable skewer seasoned just right. They were out of tofu. No big deal. Which meant I got more veggies. I didn't expect my raspberry tea had sugar but it had right amount of sugar. Seasoned French fries were light Ana's hot not greasy at all. Atmosphere-view is gorgeous. I came in with my best friend for a late dinner with a reservation for 7pm. The restaurant was packed and we weren't seated until almost 8pm. While there, the bartender Victor was amazing! He was very busy but he was able to let me know that my order was put in. They white peach punch was delicious and strong. The when it was time to be seated, my server Jay was nothing short of perfection. Jay made sure all my needs were met, made great suggestions, and was overall a great server. He was very authentic and once I return, I would definitely request him for my server. Give that man a raise or promotion! I surprised my boyfriend here for Sunday brunch and we had an amazing time! Valet service is great and it was also complimentary. We arrived 5 mins late with a request to sit outside on the patio and were accommodated so quickly. Everyone we interacted was so kind. Our servers were Richard, Nick, and I believe the third gentleman's name was Hugo. Richard gave us a tour of the buffet and the layout. They also have an incredible menu like omelets, sliders, steamed crab legs, eggs Benedict, options that are apart of the brunch and all you need to do was order those items with your server. This place is very vegetarian friendly. My boyfriend went crazy over the seafood, waffles, and menudo. I loved their bottomless champagne. Even before I could flag down a server for a refill one of the three gentlemen were one step ahead and had a bottle by! I also loved the music that was played here, perfectly 80's and so appropriate for the beautiful harbor weather! My review is based on Sunday brunches only. We've been here at least 4 times for Sunday brunch now over a 2 year duration. I do remember really enjoying it the very first visit, which led us to come back. The view is breath taking and right on the ocean and that hasn't changed. Although, the food selection could be better, especially for the price ($40 per person with tax, not including gratuity). Service is also just OK. The waiters do make sure that your glass is full with champagne when you are running low, but not once did it feel personable, it's like they are robots. The items I enjoy still are the omelet and pasta bars. The Mexican food area is not very good, the options for kids are "frozen food" options, which sucks if you are actually paying for them. For example, they serve the frozen chicken nuggets, French toast sticks, mini corn dogs, etc. Really? I think I am all reef'ed out, I don't think I'll be making my way back here unless it is for someone else's event. read more

My best friend who lives in Long Beach wanted me to have a great breakfast before I got on my plane back home. this place is huge and there is just so much to choose from! Recently celebrated a birthday on Saturday, It was during the holiday season and the restaurant was extremely beautiful the restaurant staff was extremely nice our server was awesome the food was exquisite!!! Not one to give bad reviews but I really felt that The Reef should be ashamed. The food was miserable and the service needed something to be desired. The place comes across as trying to be a high end restaurant, the location (right on the water) is nice enough, and prices are high but the food is really bad. I had the French Dip, the meat was over done, fatty, and was a really thick cut. My salad even had way too much dressing. My wife's fish and chips where over fried. My father in law and brother in laws meat was not cooked correctly. My daughters food never came out. Orders not taken correctly. Etc., etc. I have never given a bad review like this but I was really frustrated... I hope the restaurant can listen and learn from this review. read more

The service was okay, and the view was nice. The Clam Chowder was edible. And now I am out of positive things to say. The Caesar Salad was a bunch of lettuce doused in dressing, and the entire thing was inexcusably sloppy. There was a chunk of uncut lettuce the size of my fist just sitting on the plate! I ordered the Prime Rib, and it was literally the worst thing I've ever had. It looked like a tree stump and had the texture of wood. I didn't know meat could get this dry. Then the Grilled Shrimp & Scallops with Pineapple Bacon Fried Rice. the skewers had so much seasoning on them, it was impossible to swallow without coughing or choking. The quality of the seafood was fine, but my eyes were watering. The bed of fried rice tasted like it was cooked in 2 week-old oil. I almost died laughing when I saw the check. $98.06 after tax and tip. Seriously, nearly 100 dollars. For what?! I could get good sushi for less! We tested out the food here because we were considering reserving some space for our rehearsal dinner. Pretty view, plenty of outdoor areas, perfect for family-friendly fun.
