Decent spot for beef noodle soup. Staff were friendly. Clean enough store. We heard from others that the only food worth ordering was the beef noodle soup so that's what we got. However when we were there the other dishes looked ok to me, especially the popcorn chicken! Only complaint was that I think they should add more noodles.

We went at dinner time and there was hardly anyone there. I was pretty excited because this place has pretty good reviews for authenticity and yumminess. It's a clean place with seating spread apart. The service was relatively quick. My girlfriend got the signature shrimp wonton beef noodle soup and I got the dry version of the same thing. I definitely prefer mine and found the soup to be a bit heavy and more vinegar-y than I expected. It's my first time having this style of noodle so maybe it's just not my taste. The beef is tender and delicious.

The beef noodle soup was delicious! The beef slices are very thick and soft. The soup is rich in flavour. The noodles are perfectly cooked and very bouncy and chewy. I liked that they serve the pickled veggies on the side, they have a hint of sweetness to it, not too sour.

Service: great although we felt rushed Parking was street parking. Food: the noodle was ok. The beef was tender but my wonton was not warm, let alone hot. The XLB was not very good.

I probably should of tried some noodles to give this place a proper review - but ended up trying the beef brisket rice - Brisket pieces were soft and fair sized - however flavor was pretty lacking in the sauce and meat - possibly wasn't marinated long enough? - Rice had some clumpy bits that were a tad bit cold - but when you mix it around with the rest then it was okay. Service was pretty fast, no wait on a Saturday afternoon is a win - tables were all spread out - so conversing shouldn't be an issue. Well lit, didn't notice any music - so the vibe was just people chatting. I may come back to try the noodles - however the rice was a miss for me and won't be a repeat.

GREAT food!!! It's over my expectations. When I walk by the restaurant, it looks like those fast Taiwanese food restaurants, I didn't expect the food was that good. We order pork chops rice and beef noodles (their signature I think). The pork chops were a lot and very soft, it also came with Taiwanese kimchi, it sounds weird but I love it. The beef noodles were AMAZING, the beef melt in my mouth. The restaurant is bright and clean with an open kitchen. The staffs were very friendly. The most important thing is their prices were reasonable.

Reasonably price and all taste great. Will be back

Great tasting beef noodles. Both beef dishes are great. Love the soup. Server is great but wait is long

We were wandering around Chinatown on a Sunday afternoon. Every restaurant was sooo busy with an hour wait. We stumbled upon this place and wasn't too crazy. A Taiwanese restaurant with very delicious food. Four of us ordered a few dishes to share and try. - Stir fry garlic and basil beans - garlicy bean, a bit on the softer side. - Wuntun beef dry noodle - sauce was very flavorful, love the sesame flavor. Great combination with the veggie, meat and noodles - Spicy beef noodle - not really that spicy but the flavor was good. Not too salty - Xiao long bao - so juicy and steamy pork bao...tasty Food was great. Service was quick and attentive.

I love this location, as it's a centrally located in the heart of Vancouver's bustling Chinatown. The staff are super efficiently, friendly, and they seated us right away. We've had lots of Taiwanese food through mutual friends, but we love the flavours this restaurant serves up. For a quick snack, we shared the beef noodle soup with a side of brisket + pan fried beef wraps. The broth for the soup is amazing, and the meat is super tender. The beef wraps are an incredible ratio of savoury to sweet. Definitely left us wanting more, but we had dinner plans so didn't want to put us over the edge. Will def come back with friends, as we really enjoyed it. They have a pretty diverse menu for both vegetarians and meat lovers and seafood lovers.

Found this place while walking with a friend in China Town in August. Ratings looked good on Yelp so we had to see with our own eyes. The restaurant shows they boil the soup for 12 hours with Chinese spices. They specialize beef noodle on the menu and the price varies depending on topping. I got Beef Tendon and Noodles ($16.55) while a friend got Signature Beef Noodle ($15.55). It was bjg and filling. Meat pieces were tender. Noodles were good. Food was okay. I didn't see what's so special about their food. It didn't fit into the price tag, could've been better.

There's nothing like this picture in their menu

Had been here few times, they cannot keep their quality control. We ordered the Cucumber with Minced Garlic, they gave us cold a plate of cucumbers without any sauce or minced garlic. We asked them to change, they came back with cucumbers with a few whole garlics (not cut at all). They said they changed the menu because one of the customers didn't like the garlic What an idiot excuse, am I a customer here. They just came up with an excuse. This is not the first time. Last time we ordered rice with meat sauce, they gave us overnight rice

Good size portions on their dishes

When our original lunch plans fell through.. we surprisingly saw this restaurant down the street. We got seated right away and service was quick and welcoming. Very similar to dimsum ordering.. we click online to choose which dishes we want and the server goes over it again with us in person to verify. It didn't take long for the food to come out and they came out piping hot. It's hard to compare flavors to Din Tai Fung but it's closely comparable! Flavors are there and portions are decently large. My favorite was the salt & pepper chicken rice bowl. The chicken was perfectly fried and seasoned.. with pickled veggies and a boiled egg added to the rice bowl. Ww also ordered the beef brisket noodle soup.. very flavorful and amazing. We ordered spicy wontons, shumai & shrimp dumplings. Tasted pretty fresh and good size! Overall we were blown away with the flavors and lots of different options on their menu. I would definitely come back!

The guy in front of me, Deng, looked at me with such envy as he cut in line. This place is incredibly popular! Every time I pass by, there's a long queue. Even on rainy days, people are willing to get soaked in the rain just to have a bowl of hot tonkotsu ramen. While you're queuing, the staff will hand out menus. The ordering system is similar to Ichiran Ramen; you can choose the noodle firmness, broth consistency, spiciness, green onions, oil level, and MSG amount . The basic ramen is only $13. I added a soft-boiled egg and pickled cabbage for $2 each. Although the pickled cabbage is really expensive , I can't help it, I'm a pickled cabbage addict! The pickled cabbage paired with the rich tonkotsu broth was refreshing. The broth was flavorful but not greasy, the noodles were chewy and springy, and the portion size was just right. Overall, it's incredibly good value for money; no wonder there's always a queue. After eating, you really get that "Ah~ this is the taste of happiness" feeling

There was a lot of hype around this place when it first opened and i passed by it many times. I…read moredecided to check it out for dinner, mostly to check it off my list of Japanese restaurants to try. As a transit user, It's conveniently located across the street from chinatown stadium skytrain station. I like that it opens a bit later until 10pm so i can go there after an evening movie at international village a 5 minute walk away. There was basically no queue to order so i was able to order as soon as i walked into the restaurant. I told the staff i was a first time customer and asked what was the most popular dish, and they said number 5 which is the nikutama udon. It comes with sweet beef, BK sauce, and onsen eggs on top of thick udon noodles. The braised sweet beef was alright in terms of flavor and it definitely hit the spot. It's by far the best ingredient in the udon. I had never tried onsen eggs before, and I didn't really care for them. It's basically eggs that were cooked slowly at a low temperature. The texture and appearance is unusual in my opinion. i thought the nikutama udon overall was pretty good and it has unique flavors and ingredients. It's not amazing but I can understand why people love the unique BK sauce's flavors. There's not many customization options but you can get the dish served hot or cold, and you can choose to get a regular version or larger version for only $1.50 more. There's apparently a lot of hype around the BK sauce but i didn't find it that great. It has a unique combination of salty, sweet, and smoky flavors. The portion size is a little smaller than i prefer so i'd definitely get the large size. But i think most people will find the regular size just fine. I was able to eat my whole dish within 5-7 minutes and im not a person that wolfs down their meal quickly. Price-wise, the cost of their udon is fair. They are around $12-13. Slightly cheaper than other ramen places. The tempura add-ons are expensive in my opinion but I saw lots of folks buying them anyways. At the time, other ramen places like Kinton Ramen had a $15 set meal, which I thought was a better deal because it came with a special summer drink and gyoza. I wish Marugame's nikutama udon had something like this. Like adding a choice of a couple tempura and a drink for a similar price. The dining area was a little smaller than expected because half of it was closed at the time. But I was still able to find a seat at the counter where i could eat my dish. They don't use a wait staff but it's cafeteria style where you get the food at the counter and bring your dish to the table, and bring it back to the cleaning area yourself. I like that you can get your own water at a tap, napkins, utensils, and cups too instead of asking for them at the counter. The dining area was pretty clean and spacious. Overall, I give Marugame 4 stars out of 5. You should definitely check it out at least once if you are a fan of Japanese udon. Try the nikutama udon with BK sauce and see if you'll like it too.

last minute plans called for a quick catch up with friends before an event at the queen elizabeth…read moretheatre. with viff happening and sting playing that night, i figured the area would be busy, so i was pleasantly surprised to walk into marugame udon before 5:00 pm and find no line up at all. the setup is quick and casual: decide what you want, move along the counter, choose your add on tempura and pay, grab your own cutlery and water, then find a seat. perfect for a quick pre or post event meal. i'd heard about marugame's freshly made udon, tempura and fast cafeteria style service. i'd also seen some long line ups when they first opened, so i was curious to see what all the fuss was about. unfortunately, it just didn't do much for me. i ordered the classic kake udon with thinly sliced beef and an onsen egg, along with a prawn tempura. the beef was quite fatty and slightly overcooked, while the broth tasted pretty bland and soy forward rather than deeply savoury. the prawn tempura was also pretty mid, edible, but nothing memorable. the onsen egg, meanwhile, was mia. it didn't take centre stage on top of the beef or noodles, and it wasn't even hiding underneath them. nope, no egg in sight. i wasn't particularly hungry anyway, and since my friend paid, i didn't check whether he'd been charged for it. the yuzu drink was another miss. i expected something bright and refreshing, but it tasted more like sugar with a little yuzu syrup added for good measure. there also weren't any crispy tempura bits available when we visited, which was a little disappointing. those little crunchy morsels are perfect for adding extra texture to a bowl of udon, and i was hoping to sprinkle some over mine. i get the appeal of marugame: it's casual, quick and convenient, with freshly made udon and plenty of options to customize your bowl. for a pre show meal, the speed and lack of a line up were definitely wins. for me, though, the flavours felt flat, the beef was fattier and more cooked than i prefer, the tempura was forgettable, and the yuzu drink was much too sweet. maybe i caught it on an off day, but while it did the job before the event, i'm not sure the udon gave me a reason to hurry back.

That said I came here wanting soup anyway. Service was curt but pleasant. I got a soup and egg roll combo, but the egg roll was small and bland. Just pass on the combo. The meat had some grisly bits (expected) but was super tender. Noodles were perfectly cooked, not too hard but not too soft. I ordered the beef noodle soup, and the noodles were prepared well (good texture and not soggy) and the soup had a slight but not overwhelm sour taste from the preserved vegetables. The beef wasn't as tender as it could be, but it wasn't chewy or tough to eat. Prices are reasonable at around $20 after tax and tips. While it wasn't the best or most authentic beef noodle soup I've had, it does hit the spot if I'm craving Taiwanese food downtown or want a hot bowl of noodle soup on a cold day.
