Tried the hainanese chicken rice which was nicely deboned and silky, sitting on a bed of cucumbers. The service is prompt for this small restaurant with about 6-8 tables. They close early which is a real bummer and last call is at 7.30 pm. Half a plate of chicken is a good size for a hungry person $25.50 + a side of rice $3.75. Overall a bit pricey but it's a good hearty meal. Comes with a small saucer of dipping chilli sauce.
Delicious and tender Hainanese chicken! Great portion and price for dine in. Service was quick and the restaurant is never too packed for a sit-down meal. Great place for some comfort food in Chinatown.
Out of all the places I've been to in my life for hainanese chicken (I haven't yelped them all), MamaLee is still my favorite. My mom grew up in Singapore so naturally, she loves hainan chicken and her favorite foods are Malaysian and Singaporean so these foods are absolute childhood comforts for me too. We were taking my mom to cirque de soleil for her 70th birthday and were going to drive to the other MamaLee location but then discovered this one which worked out perfectly because we were able to walk to the cirque venue right after. We ordered the large hainanese chicken rice + soup, nasi lemak, roti canai and curry beef brisket with rice. The hainanese chicken here was just as good as I remember it. Just wow. De-boned, ultra juicy but not really oily, fantastic flavor. Sauce is excellent as well. The side broth it comes with is delicious. Curry beef brisket with rice was ridiculously good. Incredibly flavorful. Just delicious. Nasi lemak - also one of my mom's favorite dishes. Was soooo good here. Roti was great. Super satisfying meal, great service, convenient location, underground parking is easy.
The generous portion of Hainanese chicken was incredibly fresh and I really enjoyed it both on its own and with the accompanying sauce. Ordering is done through a QR code that links to the online menu, with payment made at the counter. The place is very clean and the service was solid. I would come back for this dish.
Chicken rice wasn't bad. The flavor of the rice was a bit bland unfortunately and the chicken itself was a bit overcooked

Just beware - quality doesn't come cheap... === 2. FOOD One Whole Chicken ($45) If you're going for goodness, go all of the way - it will cost you but the pieces of tender, boneless, succulent chicken taste amazing with the included ginger sauce, sweet chilli, and sweet/oily soy sauce. Hainanese Chicken Rice ($18.50) A lunch-sized portion - comes with rice and cucumber slices; it works out well. The sauce-infused rice could make a meal on its own... Curry Beef Brisket with Rice ($20.50) It's authentic - oily, yet the spice is just right. Tender chunks of meat - the rice will be handy in soaking up the flavours! Oyster Sauce Choy Sum ($18.95) The chop sum was nice and crispy still, covered in garlic - the flavour and texture are pretty much perfect!! === 3. SERVICE I did take out; the phone order was quick and efficient; the order was ready for me in 15 mins as promised. === 4. ENVIRONMENT It's a small joint across from the Chinatown T&T; there are a few four-seat tables and some bar-style seats. Good for pre-game/event meals! It is accessible by wheelchair and baby stroller. Parking is interesting though - you could stop in front briefly but parking will really be in any of the nearby parking structures.
Really casual but good Malaysian place. Cash only. Roti canai- really flaky and good, amongst the flakiest I've had. Hainan chicken - chicken is very smooth, rice is very flavourful Laksa - light creamy flavour, coconut, pretty good overall. Beef curry - tender and soft, good flavour Bean sprouts - I LOVED this dish. Really really flavourful. I would definitely come back here. Hidden gem!
This place is our go to for Hainan Chicken rice. We like the way they serve the chicken with a light soy sauce as well as the chili sauce and ginger scallion sauce. This location is not big and during busy hours you might have to wait. Overall the food and service is fine, the taro dessert is nice but mostly we go there for the chicken rice.
I love hainanese chicken so I was excited when we decided to choose this restaurant to eat for dinner. We went around 5pm and got sat down immediately. The inside of the restaurant is pretty small so just a fair warning. The employees were so nice and kept coming to our table to make sure we had plenty of water. We did family style and ordered the following: Full Chicken yellow rice Curry beef brisket w/ rice Oyster sauce gai lan The chicken and curry brisket were so good! I would come back just to order these two items. The only sad part was that they forgot our oyster sauce gai lan and we had to remind them and by the time it came out, we had finished everything already. First time getting hainamese chicken rice at this location. Normally we go to the one in broadway, how've they closed on Sunday. This chinatown keeper st location closed on Monday. Parking: pay parking garage or free temporary parking in the round about. As always service Is great. Trying the new kobucha coconut tapioca drink. Very good. We asked for 50% sugar and no ice. We take to go large hainamese chicken rice. Place is clean and quiet. It's across from t&t supermarket. Btw: now they have loyalty card.
We ordered food online for pick up. Whole hainanese, 3 sides of rice, roti canai, fish ball laksa, and bubur chacha (hot). When we picked up the food the girl at the register was really sweet and had our order ready to go. We had brought our own bag so she put everything in the bag for us and asked if we needed any utensils. The place smelled so good when we walked it. Would want to stay and eat in next time. The hainanese chicken was definitely the star of the show. We enjoyed the ginger sauce. Roti canai sauce had a good kick to it. For take out it was buttery and flakey. The fish ball laksa was also great. For mild spicy it still had a kick. I can see why some other reviews would've wanted more of a coconut flavor but I thought it was good nevertheless. The bubur chacha hit the spot for me as a dessert. The sago and and coconut milk with the different yams and sweet potatoes were comforting. Would definitely recommend this place.
The chicken was cooked so well. Tender but not without texture. The sauces were also super on point. Service was great too. They don't check on you too much but they make sure you have the beverage you want and the food was also served very quickly. Was not too loud. Good for a small group of people hanging out. Will def come back.
Super nice staff! Small eating area but was sufficient for us. Hainese Chicken rice was good but broth was fattier than expected. Lots of chicken on the plate and rice was cooked well. The laksa was delish and had 2 types of noodles. We got the seafood one and it had lots of seafood. The roti was AH-MAZ-ING. Their seasonal Boba was also delish.

I've been searching for a good Hainan chicken and rice place whenever I travel and I think I found one of my favorites at Mamalee. The chicken is so tender and juicy with good flavor and even better if you like to dip it in their home made lightly spicy or ginger sauce. It is fully deboned too. This is the star of the show and a must try if you want to know what Hainan chicken should taste like. I was just at Portland and ate at Nong's Khao Man Gai which is a Thai version of Hainan chicken and Mamalee just blows it away. I will definitely be back to support this small business whenever and as often as I can. Wish they open a location in California or Las Vegas but this gives me a reason to visit Vancouver more often. PS: Free 2 hour parking at International Village Mall. read more

Bring a Malaysian restaurant I was expecting the food to be halal. It does not have any appetizers. The menu is very limited. The food tastes good. Wish they have more variety in the menu. read more

Came here because it was super close to where I was staying, and I don't regret it at all. It was exactly what I needed that day on a rainy day. I ordered the seafood laksa noodle soup and it came out SO fast. It was so good. The mixed noodles threw me off a bit texture-wise at first, but I quickly got used to it. You should definitely check this place out if you are looking for some good soup. read more

The hainanese chicken rice here was great! The texture and flavor of the chicken reminded us of what we had in Asia. The accompanying chili/ginger sauce was a nice complement and the rice was well seasoned. Would definitely recommend this! The fishball laksa was a bit of a letdown. The soup lacked depth of flavor and didn't taste as authentic. read more
Newish location inside the Interntional Village roundabout. Parking here is pretty awful. Maybe try some side streets. The inside is pretty modern, but feels like a cafeteria with the hollow metal chairs. Staff are friendly and helpful. I must say the presentation for their signature Hainan chicken rice is pretty. The meat is served in a nice ring, with the rice in the middle. Stuper tasty. Meat is moist and oily. Served with some cold sliced cucumbers and the usual red (sweet) and green (tangy) sauces. Combo includes home style vegetable soup. The rice is also nice and flavourful without being overbearing. I was happy. Definitely a good choice if one is in the area. Recommended. read more

I can't believe this was my first time trying this really delicious hainese chicken hidden gem. My boyfriend and i were wanting a quick bite before going to see the Jo Koy comedy tour here in vancouver and we decided to stroll through tinseltown chinatown area for some food. Found this place which was so packed when we glanced through the glass window. But it was pretty quick after putting our name down we ended up getting seated. This place only takes cash and debit!!! The Beef Laksa Noodle Soup was completely new to me, i never knew authentic laksa noodle soup has 2 kinds of noodles inside. Not only is there the yellow looking noodles but there's also thin vermicelli inside too .. the bean sprouts just blend right into everything and mind you i actually hate bean sprouts! The tofu puffs totally soaked up the soup and was so delicious. The beef was not dry or overally chewy. Laksa was a good level of spice and creamy! The ultimate highlight was the hainese chicken, no bones wasn't dry, cooked to perfection and the sauce pairing is so yummy. Everything was so easy to gobble up, flavour is on point and very consistent not lacking at all! I hate ginger but it is blended into little itty bits in the rice so well like you can't even really tell. The roti was flakey for my liking though .. spanish latte with the icecream inside was like a dessert practically !! Yummm i can't wait to try their other location! Highly recommend! read more
Based on the yelp reviews, seems like a newer restaurant. Located across from the T&T Supermarket in Chinatown area. Haianese chicken plate is the main highlight. No bone in chicken. The meat was tender, flavorful and very good. Roti pretty good. Crispy and fresh. Beef laksa pretty tasty also. Choysum - simple. The food seemed overpriced. The service is okay, needs better communication with the customers. They are near closing and took really long to make our food. read more

I had their noodle soup with their Hainan chicken. The chicken was good, the service quick and friendly. However, the broth was very salty, thin, and bland (except for the salt). I would consider trying it again for a quick bite, but I don't think I would try the soup again. read more
After the closing of their sister store Cafe D'Lite in the Aberdeen Center food court, their new Mamlee location opened with a soft opening in outside the Chinatown International Village mall. Tried the Hainanese Chicken Laksa noodles. Seems to be a bit of confusion as my friend tried to order it ahead of me, but was told it wasn't available. When I got there, I was able to order it. Nice creamy spicy soup base with egg and vermicelli noodles with boneless Hainanese chicken. Deserts were not available as they were still under soft opening. It seems with the interactions with take out order there was still things they were figuring out. I'm sure things get better with time. read more

Yummy hainanese chicken and roti dish! The roti was flakey and I felt it could of had a thicker curry sauce but overall tasty. The hainanese chicken was done well with very juicy pieces of chicken but the rice could have been fluffier for my taste. Overall amazing food and great service! Highly recommend read more
A visit to the new Mamalee's in Tinseltown/Chinatown was comfortable, quick, reliable, and reasonably priced. Upon arrival, I was greeted warmly. The 2 front staff handled the house efficiently and even managed to come to our table a few times to offer more hot tea and asked about our dishes. They opened in early March but are still doing a soft opening and offered us a taste of their housemade soup which was very delicious. Mamalee replaced a Vietnamese Pho shop. It's wonderful to have a Malaysian Restaurant in this neighbourhood. My friend and I shared Roti Canai (so crispy on the outside and soft and warm inside. Delicious and my favourite); Hainanese Chicken Laska Soup (the soup lacked the spices I usually crave for but still not bad. Liked the mixed noodle and good portion size); and Curry Beef Brisket with Rice (deep aromas and the beef was so tender and a good portion size). We enjoyed our meal and were stuff. Looking forward to coming back. Clean and bright. No alcohol. No reservations. Cash Only. Closed on Mondays. Last seating 7:15pm as they close at 8pm. read more

We got take out at Mamalee and appreciated the quick service. I got the Hainanese chicken rice and R got the beef brisket curry. I thought the chicken was not bad but didn't think it was anything too special. R thought that the curry was too runny and a bit too oily for his liking. Overall, an okay place for Malaysian food. read more

If you can't decide between the Hainan Chicken Rice or the Laksa, get the rice! I would've liked the Laksa to have a stronger coconut flavor, but the chicken was definitely the best part. Service was good and it was pretty quiet when I went. read more

Satisfying my Hainanese Chicken Rice craving at Mamalee in their new location ( in front of downtown T&T). Half chicken with 2 Rice bowls... yummy Chicken Rice is very authentic. we came shortly after noon on a saturday and were the first ones at the restaurant. this place is in a cul de sac, where t&t is by tinseltown, it's new, clean and bright. after a quick glance at the menu, we knew what we wanted and placed our orders and it didn't take long for our orders to arrive. i had the hainanese chicken laksa and my friend had the seafood laksa. the portion seemed quite generous and i didn't think i would be able to finish it, but i did (maybe in part because i didn't want to pay for a take out container and bag, and didn't want to carry it) the soup was creamy with a little bit of kick, but not too spicy. the hainanese chicken was tender and boneless. there were a mixture of two types of noodles, a few tofu puffs and bean sprouts. it didn't take long for the restaurant to fill up, service was warm, friendly and attentive, our waters were constantly refilled. i wish they accept credit cards, they accept cash and debit cards only. two thumbs up, i would most definitely come back! read more

I was encouraged to try Hainese chicken from Mama Lee's as I was told they made it the best. The chicken was smooth and cooked just right. Good rice portion to complement - more than I would normally eat for dinner. It was so good I finished it all. I would expect it would be even tasier eating it hot and right out of the kitchen as it was lukewarm by the time it was delivered to me. Excited to eat in the restaurant in the future! read more
