Used to be good before covid. Now they give you smaller portions in plastic containers for dine in. No refills on the coffee/tea and they don't check up on you. They need to lower prices if they're not going to serve food the way they did precovid with full service and portions. edit: it is Thai tea. I use to live red 88, especially their vegan ka-ree soup but the past few visits have been awful. They've brought me nonvegan chicken soup when it was specified for it to be "vegan" . The first time it happened, the manager came out and personally apologized for the mistake, saying that they had just hired a new cook/ kitchen worker and assured me that they take dietary restrictions very seriously. But for it to happen a second time when it was made clear TWICE that the order is vegan is disheartening. I don't feel safe to eat anything at red88 anymore. Dumplings. The only way to mess up dumplings (in my opinion) is when it was not cooked fully or when it is not dumplings. I would like to claim FALSE ADVERTISEMENT on their dumplings. For they are NOT dumplings. Imagine my surprise when I opened my takeout box to see NOT dumplings, but siu mai, another Chinese dim sum. As a confirmed Chinese person as well as a human being with eyeballs, it is easy to see that the food I had gotten was their poor and unfortunate version what they must think a dumpling looks like. (btw I got them steamed) How did I know it was siu mai? Well, it had the indistinguishable red mark at the top also THE SHAPE??? Like it wasn't even in the shape of a dumpling! it was like a square with a circular bottom (I'm not majoring in shapes don't @ me). Other than the fact that the "dumpling" was NOT a dumpling, the taste could be expressed through the word "whatever". It definitely wasn't the best in the taste department, it was waaaay too expensive for the 6(?) pieces I got, and I'll say it again for the people in the back, IT. WASN'T. DUMPLINGS. I had also the privilege of ordering their "special" fried rice (which is just their fried rice. Doordash kindly recommended them to me thanks for that by the way Doordash). I was feeling not meat so I got fresh tofu (which is like not fried tofu). The tofu was bland, simple. The fried rice, was fried rice without like... the feeling of fried rice. I feel like if I got it with a meat, the flavoring would be better, but I didn't, and I didn't like it. I didn't try the hot sauce (sorry) because my spice tolerance tonight was zero so... yeah. 10/10 do not recommend. They place four drinks on a wooden board, then all four grab the board and lift it at the same time to chug your drinks. I would say that is worth trying for sure. I've never had a chipped plastic glass at UOB. The meal for my wife and I (with 20% tip) was around $50.00. I LOVE BEER. It's as important to me as the meal. If you screw up my meal you screw up up the beer - and if you screw up the beer - so goes the meal. $50.00!!!! No thanks. Came in on Valentine's Day from bar hopping with friends. The place got busy quick but I've been here on a lot of other occasions as well. Bartenders are always kind and friendly! Our drinks have always been consistent. Our group had to split to do 3 different ski shots in the night and we tried the Green Bastard, The DTF and LFG-- everybody enjoyed all flavors of the shots Our table also got a few appetizers (potstickers, wings, and fries) and other mixed cocktails: The FML, AMFML, Watermelon Sour Patch Shooter, Sour Skittle Shooter, White Gummi Bear Shooter, Kiss My Blossom, and Pacific Rim. Everybody enjoyed their drinks definitely the stronger drinks did what they were supposed to do and the other cocktails tasted great and were easier to sip/take down ! I came here when I started my sophomore year at UCD, had pretty good food but got food poisoning from it (duck fried rice). I just chalked it up to coincidence but was afraid to come back for a while. I really hate complaining about a place but I just can't let this slide. Fast forward to 7/22/15 evening: I was craving noodle soup and decided to give this place another try. Service was amazing and food came out quick. The 2 guys (bartender/manager?) that were nicely dressed were very attentive and I saw them accommodate a large group really quickly. Literally A+ for service. I ordered the Thai boat noodle soup and my boyfriend ordered the BBQ pork and shrimp wonton noodle soup. When I first tasted the soup, it was light and not too salty. The beef was strange, thick and very chewy. Something was a little off with it but I brushed it off since I was starving. The veggies in the soup tasted very bitter too. For my boyfriend's soup, it tasted light too but the wonton was literally a shrimp with the wonton wrapper (shrimp was rubbery). It was nice that the thai tea was unlimited but there was a very bad aftertaste, probably made from powder. The prices were decent and I thought I could give this place another try. Nope. I went home and puked my guts out for several hours. Just like the last time, I got sick a bit after my meal here, ate nothing else between then and going home. I would've ignored it once, but a second time? No way! Final Thoughts: There's something in this kitchen that's not right. Came here after a hike and the bottomless Thai Tea was REFRESHING! Got at least 2 refills with an attentive waitress filling it up as soon as it neared empty. Great service during weekend lunch! For my entree, I got duck fried rice and I absolutely loved it. The hot sauce that comes with it is yummy! Portions were huge. My best friend got the spicy mac and cheese. It was so greasy, which is why I finished her leftovers. It was surprisingly yummy (I'm a big cheese lover). If you spend over $10, you get a free pass to Ket! Come here for their Midori Sour, Pacific Rimjob, and Thai Tea. Been here more times than I care to admit, but oddly never got around to leaving a review. I mainly come on Thursday or Friday nights when I'm out bar hopping with my friends. They have cheap drinks and food after midnight, but you have to be at the front of the line after THEIR time states that it's after 12am. They will also give you free passes to Ket Mo Ree with a certain amount of purchase. Honestly, the servers can be pretty darn rude during busy nights, so the 4 star rating is for their regular lunch/dinner hours. Wish I remembered our server's name when we came in for a late lunch around 3pm one Saturday afternoon. She was very attentive and we left her a nice tip for it! Bottomless Thai tea is what you should be coming here for! The food is honestly just average. She was very nice when I asked for more half & half in my Thai tea refills. They also box and label your food with the dish name and date! Take note: you cannot take your last cup of Thai tea to-go after you have gotten more than one refill.
