So I had a Yelp event in Davis,but I got out there about an hour early,so decided to pregame a bit at a bar located across the street. We headed over to G Street WunderBar located on G street in downtown Davis. We ended up parking on the street-so many parking spots in Davis-so it was no problem. When we walked in,it was quiet,not a lot going on but I knew this was a fun place. Wasn't hard to imagine how much fun this place would be on a Friday or Saturday night in this college town. I asked the bartender lady and she pretty much verified that it gets nutso in there on weekends. This bar has lots of tables and multiple rooms,so they have capacity for many people. They have multiple pool tables and video games in the back room,along with an entirely separate bar back there. They have a big screen projector screen and many small TVs along the bar to accommodate anyone wanting to watch any live sporting event. The Happy Hour here is pretty solid as well,$5 drinks were available. I heard the food here is pretty decent but we weren't here for that-maybe next time. My favorite part of this bar though easily was the bartender-She was such a breath of fresh air,so much personality and her hockey knowledge was amazing-she really made my visit to this bar quite enjoyable. In closing, If you ever find yourself in downtown Davis and need to kill some time or just want a quick drink,don't hesitate to drop by G Street Wunderbar-it's a good time. read more

Stopped in for a beer and loved the atmosphere of this place. It was early yet so place was pretty empty. Seemed like a nice variety of draft beers to choose from but the drafts werent working so I settled for a bottle of Lucky Buddha. Plenty of TVs with sports on, and in the back, another large area that had older video games, some pool tavles and some electronic dartboards in the corner. Always a fun time with friends, drinks are good, some of the DJs do a great job keeping the crowd dancing, bouncers take care of any issues that arise but the women's bathroom is a travesty. Why, oh God, why is there always a biblical flood of nasty toilet/drain water all over the floor?? Of course, none of the stalls have a working lock, so you're forced to contort yourself to both hold the door closed for your friend and try not to get dookie water on your shoes, just to fail anyway. Wunderbar fares as an ok bar for a night out. My date suggested this place and I had my hesitations as a 25 year old with no interest in reliving my college days, but I felt pleasantly reassured to see some people that appeared in their late 20s. The bartenders serve you with a smile and there's always a lively group of patrons mingling. Pool tables sit near the restroom if you can manage to secure one. Don't get your hopes up though; it seems like a finders-keepers type of situation once people occupy the tables. I didn't feel like anything particularly stood out about this place. Some reasons are inherent to its location in the heart of a college town; there's always competition with other neighboring bars. Also, most undergrads don't bat an eye at the ambiance as long as alcohol and music are involved. But some of the reasons are self-inflicted... the dance floor needs more space and the DJ sounded like he had a generic club playlist on shuffle. Forgot to close my tab so I met the bartender the next morning with a lovely 20% surcharge. I know that's the standard for many bars (even though I see it as a mere cash grab), but 20% feels like such an insult for the subpar experience here. If you're a student at UC Davis, you should still give this place a visit. I'm sure it's a blast for the average 21 year old. After all this time, I recently visited again, and it still has that classic downtown Davis vibe that feels familiar and welcoming. I grabbed a brew and caught some sports on the TV while killing time before a show nearby. As an Asian American, I've been very lucky to rarely experience direct racism...until last night at G Street Wunderbar. If you are a person of color, beware of the bald bartender with tattoos. I tried to order multiple times, only to be ignored while he served white customers who had just walked up. When I asked him point blank if there was a reason he couldn't take my order, he just smirked and took the order from a white guy that was behind me. Then, when I asked if they had Japanese whisky, he pulled down a bottle of Glenkinchie and told me that was their "only Japanese bottle." Really? It literally says Scotch whisky right on the label. The only explanation is pure ignorance--he must've thought "kinchie" made it Japanese. ‍ Mr. Bald Bartender, you are way too close to the Bay Area to be this ignorant and racist. California is too diverse and multicultural for you. Maybe you'd feel more at home in Jacksonville, FL--or anywhere else but here. And to the owner: it's telling that multiple reviews mention the same issues with this guy. Why keep him around? I can't help but assume, you are probably just as racist. read more

Terrible service at this bar, and the drinks are way overpriced for the quality. Bald bartender has a crappy attitude and takes forever to serve anyone. They weren't even that busy, yet it took on average about 15-20 minutes to get a drink. He would also just straight up ignore people standing at the bar trying to get a drink and wait on others as soon as they walked up. Decent experience here. Nothing wrong with the place itself but if you're a young college girl keep an eye out for older guys that try hitting on you lol!! Great spot meet up and get a drink with friends. The food isn't anything special, but does hit the spot while you watch some sports, attend a seminar hosted by UC Davis, or play some pool. It's a bar, so expect to clean up after yourself to some degree, but the bartenders are pretty relaxed and make great conversation. Definitely people worth talking to if it's a midday drink or late night beer. Like many others already have mentioned, DO NOT COME HERE WITH AN OUT OF STATE ID! I came with two other people (21 and 22) who are from CA and got checked just fine. When they took a look at my ID (I'm 23, from NY) the bouncer proceeded to fold my ID in half and start bending and twisting it. He had to call for a second opinion and when I asked why he was doing all these things he just said "it's out of state". Thankfully the second guy looked at it and within 30 seconds recognized it as real and told the bouncer he had to give me back my ID. I was getting worried I would have to call the cops to get it back. There are plenty of other good bars nearby that had no problem checking my ID without me being worried they were going to break it. read more

Great setting good crowd yet a bartender there seemed to make it a drag. Went there Friday spent a good amount and left a tip of 10%. Could've been more I understand that but it's a college town bar and I am a college student. I go back Saturday and he refused to serve because of the tip saying I've been there 2 weeks in a row not tipping ideally? I was not there a prior week. The quality of service that's being ran at this establishment is horrendous. The other reviews reiterate this too. To the bald man child manager who has clearly never held a higher position before in his LIFE, you need to work on your customer service skills asap. Not only that, but work on becoming a better human-being because the way you relate to people who DO NOT look like you, based on whatever implicit bias you have about them, is sad to say the least. It definitely comes off as racist. Instead of you to service a black patron who had been waiting there for the longest, to give money to the ESTABLISHMENT that you work at, you decide to be rude and serve someone else. Then when the patron rightfully lets you know that they were there first, you proceed to get them kicked out? What type of idiocy is that? Mind you the white woman security guard is a problem in itself. Not sure why you felt the need to put your hands on that patron and his black friends as well, but that was completely unnecessary. They were already on their way out (for no reason at that) I've seen a couple reviews about the manager who's bald with tattoos and he is the type of person who doesn't need to be working in this type of environment. A warehouse job is more fitting for him and would pay more. Let's get this out of the way; the G Street is a dive bar. Always has been, always will be. That being said, it's a fine. Reasonable prices, lots of stuff to do, good entertainment. Do you want the same shitty burger every bar in America has? This is the place! Basically, G street has three scenes: Day drinkers; local drunks who come in for a pint or six every day. They won't bother you, get your shitty burger and play some pool. Early evening; the "sweet spot". this is when the bar has a good vibe, the depressing day drunks have mostly left and it isn't too crowded. Get a beer here between 6 and 9 and you can enjoy all the G has to offer. Night: This is when the G gets weird. Are you an extremely drunk person in Davis? You are probably at the G. It gets crowded, attracts a mix of naer do well townies, undergrads between the ages of 21 and 22 who enjoy binge drinking and extras from the movie "Dune". This crowd also accounts for 99% of the one star reviews. They are usually pissed off because they acted like morons and got kicked out. To be fair, the bouncers can best be described as "Joe Rogan enthusiasts". Combine this with the people they have to deal with on a nightly basis and there is an understandable amount of friction. TL:DR: it's a cool bar between 6 & 9pm. Leave before 10 unless you want to get weird. PS: I did a really bad fart in the bar like 10 years ago and it cleared out half the place. My bad. read more

I had the pleasure of coming here on a date. The screens were large enough that I was able to watch the Titans vs. Niners game with my date. I ordered the lamb burger, fries and a cocktail. The lamb burger was extremely tender and a good portion. I enjoyed the feta cheese and spinach on the burger too. I was able to eat a burger on a date without looking like a messy eater. Don't waste your time. Bouncers are on a power trip. They're rude and abrasive and management is a joke with no willingness to address the problem. They probably didn't get hugged enough as a child and have no control over their lives so they like to use the little bit of power they have as a bouncer to order people around and kick them out without reason. But at the end of a day you guys work at a small shitty college bar and get paid to babysit drunk people so enjoy your insignificance. Gave this place a second chance after not going there for five years. I got a smoked brisket sandwich that was like a half dried turd on a plain cheap roll. To top it off they didn't give me any barbecue sauce or even napkins! I had to go back and request. Bartenders looked half hung over and unfriendly. Went here recently for a midday fundraiser for a friend. Tasty BBQ inspired menu items and fast, friendly service. The mac & cheese was velvety, super cheesy and delicious. I also got the pulled pork sandwich with potato salad and baked beans (which also came with a small bag of Lay's classic potato chips, which I found unnecessary). The house-made beans were a perfect balance between sweet and spicy, while the potato salad was sweet and simple. The pulled pork sandwich had a nice soft bun, but was on the skimpier side for both the pork and coleslaw offerings. I asked for some extra coleslaw for the rest of my sandwich, since I couldn't eat it all in one setting. Really good! read more

On the plus side, I didn't get hassled last night....just sat with a couple friends and enjoyed their companies. The seating was open and plentiful. Perhaps this was the case because it was Monday, but this place may make its way back in to the Davis rotation provided they keep to a somewhat passive policy. When I got the burger it was NAKED. No regular burger goodies to put on it. No fries to share, no nuth'n. I had a glass of red. WAS NOT a Pinot Noir. Service was absolutely abysmal, and the place honestly seems dirty and dive-bar-ish. My friends and I came in to celebrate living through finals. Football was on, so they had a big projector screen showing it and all the tables-of which there were not many- had groups of two and three people sitting at them, so nowhere for us to sit. Annoying, but not a deal breaker. The floor was also sticky pretty much everywhere, which grossed me out immediately, and there was basically no airflow so it was humid as hell despite being like 50 degrees outside. My friend went up to order a drink, and the blonde woman behind the bar made a bitchy, passive aggressive comment about it being "complicated" and how she "normally just serves whiskey". Fuck my friend for wanting a mixed drink at a BAR, right? She then charged her $12 for a rocks glass that was not even half full. When my friend asked if she should tip, I will fully admit that I told her not to. The bartender was rude and her drink was overpriced. I stand by that. After that, the girl in our party who didn't drink asked us to see if she could maybe get a virgin daiquiri or something. When my friend asked, instead of saying something like "oh, we don't have a blender"-a completely understandable reason to not make a drink-she replied with "this isn't that kind of place" in the cattiest tone possible. What kind of place? One that serves fucking drinks? After all of THAT, I was already ready to leave, but the guy in our party who brought us there wanted to do a round of shots, which was the whole reason we went out in the first place. When he went up to ask, the bartender told him "I'm making minimum wage and I have to focus on people who are going to tip", and straight up refused to pour us shots. The absolute craziest self-fulfilling prophecy in the world- we didn't tip in the first place because she just couldn't keep her rude ass comments about what we were drinking to herself. He came back to our group looking confused as hell because he didn't know she said that because of me telling my other friend not to tip, he just thought she was being rude to him for no reason.
