LOVE Red 88. Such great comfort food & delicious drinks. My food recs: My favorite is the Pad Kee Mow or the Spicy Udon noodles. I put my friends onto the Pad Kee Mow and they were addicted too. Drunken fries w/ birria and Thai Zesty Red 88 wings are sooo good too! Drink recs: The ABG, Hot Lips, Kiss my Blossom, Orgy on the beach pitcher, Thai iced tea Lovely staff & fun vibe. Great for any age. If you have any concerns about your food just let the staff know, they're super accommodating and kind, and they just want you to enjoy. Don't forget to go on your birthday to spin the Birthday Wheel to get a free drink! Hope to be back sometime.
We wanted to try something new but it was a little late so not many options that weren't fast food. so we drove 20 min to Davis to find this small restaurant. It was a seat yourself and order at the bar type vibe which was fine with us. Davis is a college town so it was really packed and pretty loud. That's was a pretty good sign for us. Staff was friendly and helpful with any questions we had. We sat towards the back and picked up some menus before we went up to order, we got an appetizer and 3 main courses.. They literally were all amazing and packed with flavor. We will definitely be coming back.
The service was amazing and our server kept asking what he could do to improve our meal, very nice. The inside was also clean and well maintained. Chicken Potstickers - 8/10 Comes with nine potstickers and a nice amount of filling in each. Very well cooked and juicy chicken. Vegetables cooked well, still a nice crunch. Would have again. Chicken Satay - 5/10 Comes with four skewers which aren't that big. Not my favorite, too sweet in my opinion. The chicken is a bit dry too. Basil Fried Rice with Fish - 8/10 Very big portion. The rice is nicely cooked, the fish nice and crispy, and vegetables have a nice crunch. Nicely seasoned across the whole dish.
I visited Red 88 with my daughter while checking out local restaurants downtown, and overall, it was a great experience. The Drunken Pig Fries were definitely the standout--crispy, flavorful, and packed with savory goodness. The Pad Thai was solid, maybe a touch sweeter than I prefer, but still tasty and well-cooked. We finished with the Sticky Rice and Sweet Mango, which was fresh and satisfying--light, not overly sweet. The atmosphere is loud and high-energy, with lots of college students hanging out, taking shots, and clearly having a good time. Not ideal if you're looking for a quiet meal, but it adds a certain fun, lively charm if you're in the right mood. Service was friendly, and the food came out quickly. Would definitely come back, especially for the fries!
Came here for dinner to treat my nephew and his gf since they both go to UC Davis. Red 88 has a 2-for-$15 deal that's honestly such a steal so we had to come and check it out. You get an entrée and a drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). I got the chow mein with tofu and a Mango Monsoon drink. The drink was great, but the chow mein was a little bland for me and the noodles-to-veggie ratio felt off. Service was awesome though, and their drinks are always on point (the ABG is my fave). Next time I'll try the fried rice and get an alcoholic drink!
Red88 is my go to bar in Davis!! They have cheap daily specials and the best drinks. My go to drink is the ABG which comes with soju, Yakult, pineapple, and rainbow jelly (I added extra popping boba). I also love getting the ski shots here when I'm with a big group!
I used to love this place. Their BBQ Pork Fried Noodle used to have more complex flavors like 5 years ago. Now it just tastes very oily and way too salty. Their dishes seem so enticing but after several bites, the flavor gets boring. Their dishes are unique and trendy but I wish each dish was done phenomenally. Service was great. They frequently checked in on us. Water was self serve. They are such a great place to go for birthdays especially a 21st.
Stopped by for some takeout dinner on a busy day. The restaurant is a little annoying to get to since G street is closed to drivers, but you can find parking around the corner. The staff are friendly even when they're in the middle of a dinner rush and they got my order to me quickly. As a heads up for the noise and light sensitive, there is a LOT going on inside this restaurant and it can get pretty loud. I got the birria fried rice and a Thai tea. The whole meal was super rich and I couldn't eat much of it in one sitting. It was a little saltier than I expected and I did not receive any citrus garnish to cut that flavor. However, it was super delicious! I had the leftovers are burritos that I added some beans to over the course of the next few days. The Thai tea was also really good, though a little sweeter than expected. The portion sizes for both were also decently large. I don't think I would want to go and sit down for dinner here, but I definitely would get their takeout again!
Red 88 is a classic in Davis, and always has a super fun atmosphere- from the Polaroids on the wall to the big bright birthday wheel, and the videos playing of ski shots being taken. They are first and foremost, in my opinion, a college bar. By that I mean their main product is the drinks they make, and they are know for super sweet drinks and shooters with little to no alcohol taste. This is not typically my preference in drinks, and I tend to find their drink menu overly sweet for my taste. Having said that, everyone has different alcohol preferences! So if you are someone who hates tasting the alcohol, and can handle some sweetness, this is your type of bar. The food is very solidly average. Some dishes are downright bad (the Red 88 fried rice is $16 for ...rice. And an egg and some chives. A bit of protein. But not $16 worth, and it's a fairly poor quality dish regardless of the price). Others are enjoyable - pad kee mow is a difficult dish to mess up, and their's is pretty decent! My friend swears by the Birria Noodz, and you get a huge portion! Overall, the food is fine. Most of it isn't outright offensive, but it's not the restaurant's focus, and it shows. It's good food to have before or after drinking, although you can get same quality and amount for much cheaper across the street at Open Rice Kitchen. Bottom Line: Red 88 is a pretty good bar! If you appreciated them for what they are, which is not primarily a restaurant, it'll hopefully be a good experience.
Red 88 is definitely more western than Asian Reasons being (no flavor) - Pad Thai: was too sweet, no flavor at all, and everything was white?... we asked for more pad Thai 'sauce' and the server informed us that the reason why there's no sauce is bc the noodles soaked it all up? - Chow Mein: again bland. - Loaded pig fries: fries were crispy but needed some flavor. Green sauce perhaps? Or maybe a dust of some paprika, garlic powder, etc - BBQ pork noodles (with soup): it's just a ramen packet with msg & a couple of things.. - Fried Rice: rice was too soggy. Wasn't crispy.. wasn't the typical fried rice you'd get at an Asian restaurant. - Thai Tea: was good. Normal. Overall, everything just needed more flavor. Service was pretty good. Interior was cute but the food.. Remember people, if you're not sneezing, it's not seasoned.
Disclaimer - I came on Picnic day, for which they had a special menu. After picnic day activities, my friends and I headed over to Red 88 Noodle Bar and I have to say, I'm not impressed. The overall rating for this place is a 2.5 for me. The good vibes and plenty of outdoor seating give off a nice ambiance, but that's about all that's good here. Wait time was not an issue, we were seated and served fast despite it being a busy Saturday afternoon. Let's get into the food. We ordered the Drunken Pig Fries and the Spicy Ramen BBQ Pork. The fries were substandard and ended up soggy, although the pork on top was pretty decent. The Spicy Ramen BBQ Pork, on the other hand, was a complete disaster. It tasted like a college kid's attempt at asian fusion. The sauce was too salty and lacked nuance, the noodles tasted like it came straight out of a Maruchan's package and the BBQ pork was dry and lacked flavor. This place is a bar first and restaurant second. Admittedly, the dirty Thai tea that my girlfriend got was pretty good, but judged on food alone, this place is overpriced and does not taste good. In conclusion, while the ambiance and seating arrangement were good, the food left much to be desired. The Drunken Pig Fries were subpar and the Spicy Ramen BBQ Pork was downright disappointing. I don't think I'll be returning to Red 88 Noodle Bar anytime soon, unless I'm only in the mood for a drink. read more

Service was great! I ordered the Chow Mein and the Spicy Chicken Sandwich with the garlic gochujang. They were both great, the chow mein had a charred taste, if you like that. The sandwich was amazing and we came in while it was pretty empty and we got served fast. The place is nice and cozy. I'd recommend it. read more

*** Vegetarian Review *** Thai food is my jam. I love all Thai noodle dishes. Curries are a favorite. So how do you make it better? Red88 figured it out ... offer vegetarian meat as an option so instead of just ordering "with tofu" I can order "with vegetarian chicken or vegetarian beef." Would I Come Back Test? Yes. The food was hot and fresh plus the staff is super nice and welcoming. Plus I saw one of those prize wheels and who doesn't love a prize wheel? Tips for first-timers: 1. Free street parking - 3 hours at least. After 6pm, no limits. Because of Covid, they have blocked the entire street for outdoor seating so just park close and walk. 2. Their online ordering is super easy. One of the best Apps. You can even make it vegan or vegetarian with a click of a single button. 3. Can't decide between vegetarian grilled chicken or vegetarian ground beef? Go with the faux grilled chicken. You'll be hard-pressed to tell the difference. 4. There is a $2 add-on for vegetarian chicken or beef. 5. Most dishes come with a side of white rice or you can upgrade to brown rice, garlic rice, or brown garlic rice. Just check the menu. Comparison: If you like the curries at Bangkok @12 or Coconut on T (both in Sacramento), you'll enjoy their curry. You can even purchase a sauce to go if you want to make it yourself at home. Remember, if it's a phone order, make sure to request no fish sauce or vegetarian or you can even request full vegan. If an online order, just click the option you want. Yellow Curry ($14, Grade A): Choose your protein -- I recommend the fried tofu for added texture. Coconut milk, yellow curry with potatoes and carrots. This is their signature curry and for good reason. The curry was flavorful and I was glad I ordered it medium. Made everything pop even more. The only thing I would change is the to go container ... the curry sauce spilled into the rice compartment so a lot of the sauce was already soaked up. With that said, hey, one container is better for the environment, right? And we still finished the entire dish so that's a win for polar bears around the world. Garlic Mushroom Lover ($11.75 + $2, Grade B): You can order this with any protein, but we selected the vegetarian ground beef. It's a stir fry with garlic and mushrooms. They don't skimp on either garlic or mushroom and would be good on its own without the fake meat. The vegetarian ground beef was probably Impossible or Beyond -- hard to tell. Pad Thai ($12.75 + $2, Grade A): Choose your protein, but I saw this on their Instagram page and ordered it that same night. The grilled vegetarian chicken is probably Gardein, but grilling it really brings out that unique flavor. Pad Thai is the chow mein of Thai. Wok-seared Bangkok style thin rice noodles with egg, beansprouts, and chives. The noodles were perfectly sticky and it was super savory. Bottom line: Super friendly staff, easy online ordering, and fresh, hot, and flavorful food. They have vegetarian options available for all their dishes so this is a great place for carnivores and vegetarians/vegans to get together to break bread or spring rolls. They open late and have a nice appetizer menu that could meet your 5th meal cravings. read more

Absolutely favorite place to get slammed at in college. This place is where half of my best memories have been forgotten. The FML is absolutely disgusting, just how I remembered it after the original trinity, it's so nasty it gives me PTSD even after graduation... 5/5 The new trinity is garbage in comparison to the first one cuz it tastes too good. But at least this Time you can just get slammed in one place instead of walking. I guess that's a little easier. It's still nasty, 5/5 The tables are always kind of greasy, idk if it's the pulled pork fries, or the damn fact that people keep yacking on the tables 5/5 I'll never forget the bathroom, the line is always so damn long cuz there's always a person passed out on the toilet. Been there done that 5/5 - just go to Woodstock next door, there's never any lines there. The outside area is cute, please bring in more heaters that actually work. Alaina is the BEST. He's one of the main reasons we continue to come back here. We LOOOOOVVVVVEEEEE Red 88. We come back as often as possible. The drinks are strong and delicious without being overpowering. It's the perfect balance. I have never and I mean NEVER had a bad meal or dish here. The drunken Birria fries are a MUST with the homemade jalapeño salsa really taking the kick up a notch. Don't hestitate! Eat at Red 88 today! read more

Came on a weekend. Had Yellow Curry, Garlic Rice, Pad Thai with Beef, Spicy Silver Noodle, Thai Iced Tea and Veg Fried Rice. Total for 3 people: 88$ Summary Unlike other reviews, we got proper plated and silverware. The service was fast, food hot and not spicy. All the dishes were evenly seasoned and, Tbh, tasty. Maybe it was a slow day and we were hungry but the overall experience really was good. The icing on the cake: Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango. We got a scoop of ice cream, which you should skip. The mango tasted like the real deal (sorry, alphonso afficianado here) and the sweet sticky rice was sticky, warm and sweet. read more

Was in town on a Friday night and wanted to try the restaurant Japanese ayce across the street but was too late for that. This place was across the street & looked busy with quite a few patrons dining outdoors. Food wasn't bad. It looks like people many college students come for the drinks. Ordered red curry with chicken, mango with sticky rice, Asian style fries & birria fried rice. We ordered to go but decided to eat some there. read more

Did the trinity! Fml is the second best tasting one , but def can taste the alcohol ( dw theres a lot of ice). If u wait at the bar , theyll take your drink order if it isnt super packed. Even on a dead rainy day, people come through to here :). The bathroom magically stays relatively clean too. I just really like their drunken pig fries. If you don't really wanna do the trinity I also highly recommend the sour patch! It taste exactly like the candy and has a yummy gummy at the end. read more

I came with a few friends to celebrate the end of a very long week, and I was really happy with the service we got. Our food and drinks came out very fast and the outdoor seating was so nice with all of the lights, especially on a hot summer night in Davis! If you're looking for a place to dance, this is not the bar for you. This is more of a place to grab a small bite and drink casually to catch up with a few friends. The music, however, is great and adds to the entire vibe of the place. The chicken tenders were just your regular chicken tenders, but the mac and cheese was SO good. The seasoning and the cheesiness was perfect and meshed well with the mint mojito pitcher we all got to share. I also tried the AMF and it was definitely one of those drinks that creep up on you so be careful!! Other than that, I will definitely be coming back here!! This is one of the better bars in Davis and there's not too many of them since a few have closed due to COVID-19. read more
Great place for drinks with friends at the end of the week! They have pitchers of drinks which are great for sharing for friends (or by yourself if you're brave). My favorite thing about this place is 100% the drunken pig fries, they have carnitas, cheese, bacon, salsa verde and the most important part is I request criss-cut fries. They are the perfect fry for this situation because they can fit some of every topping/sauce and they don't get soggy too fast. (Even soggy I'd inhale them) Even though this is a heavy meal the green salsa adds the perfect touch of freshness. The birria fries are good as well, but I'd prefer the birria with consomé in a taco. They have online ordering available to make sure to take advantage of it if you're in a rush! They've always had our food ready at the expected pick up time. read more

The young woman working outside convinced us to try it. It is generally not a good idea to eat at restaurants where you are the only patrons and the restaurants around you in a college town are all packed. We were on a time crunch, so decided to try it. My udon noodles were rice noodles and stead of chicken it was mostly tofu. The veggies were fresh, but it needed some Sirachi or something with a tiny bit of kick !! The flavor of the lamb with rice was good, but the lamb was fatty and full of gristle. Most likely won't go a second time. When most restaurants are serving on China with real cutlery ours was served "take-out". read more
First time coming here for food, we got to choose where we sat which was great! I ordered the shrimp chow mein and it was a 6/10 for me. There wasn't anything special about the dish, it didn't have many memorable flavors. Not bad but not great. Some of the beans also tasted sort of raw? We also ordered the drunken pig fries which were not bad, I would give it a 7/10. Also wasn't anything special, I feel like it could've been elevated a lot more too if it had a special sauce or seasoning on the meat. I would say the food is definitely more of stuff you'd come to get when your drunk. But if your looking for high cuisine meal, it's best to look elsewhere. I came here a couple of times already but recently came for my 22nd birthday! My birthday was on a Sunday, so the place closes at 10:30pm then. Usually, I go late at night, and they ask for your ID so that they can give you a wristband to indicate that you are at least 21 years old. When we went late at night, you could only order drinks at the bar, and food had to be ordered on their website. On Sunday (on my birthday), when we went, there was no wristbands, so we just ordered a pitcher and some food at the bar itself. They obviously still card you, but again, there were no wristbands. If it's your birthday, you should def stop by! They let you spin a wheel for a free drink (or right now, COVID kit). Whatever you land on is what you get for free. They ring a bell as you spin, and it's so much fun! I ended up getting an FML from this spinning wheel experience. As for food, we got the birria fries, drunken pig fries, pad thai, and the birria ramen. After drinking the FML, I was a little disoriented, so some of my food photos ended up really blurry... Sorry, I couldn't include some of them in this review. Pad Thai - 2.5/5 It's alright pad thai. There are better pad thai places in Davis, so honestly, I would not recommend you get this here at Red 88. Birria Fries - 5/5 I love their fries in general! But I really like their birria fries. It's a little spicy (a small kick) and pretty saucy. It's one of my favorites here at Red88! I have gotten it multiple times already... A go-to! Recommend to eat the fries with a fork! Drunken Pig Fries - 5/5 Again, I love their fries. These fries are so dang good. I love the sauce too, and they are not spicy at all (compared to birria fries). I like the shredded pork that's on the fries too. Delicious! Recommend to eat the fries with a fork! **Overall, about the fries, they are not crispy but still really soft and yummy!! Birria Ramen - 3.5/5 The soup was slightly spicy! I enjoyed it, but it is not a go to. The ramen was like instant ramen noodles. Shredded meat, cilantro, and diced onions sprinkled the top. I couldn't finish all the soup... It was alright. As for drinks, I got the FML (got for free from my birthday spin) and one of their pitchers (Orgy on the Beach). FML - 3/5 Taste wise, it's super strong. I would not get this again on my own because the alcohol taste was really strong. If you are looking to get buzzed fast though, this may be the drink for you! There's a cherry on top too, which was interesting. Orgy on The Beach - 5/5 Tastes like juice (which can be dangerous)! It was so sweet and delicious. Shared the pitcher amongst 4 people, and it was sufficient for all of us. I would recommend this pitcher if you are looking for one to order. Overall, great experience and would definitely come back for more fun and birthdays! Also, during special occasions, you can ask the bartender to take a big polaroid picture for you and your friends. You get to write on it and put it on the wall! Great service from the workers/bartenders there too~ read more

How have I not reviewed this place ? It's been a Covid staple for me! I mean I used to go there pre Covid but now they're my favorite Davis take out! Want enough food to be able reheat the rest for lunch tomorrow ? This is the place. Their online ordering system is fantastic. The only awkward thing is you can't drive up to the door right now you have to find parking on neighbouring streets due to 'open air davis' - I don't really understand why the street is still blocked when there's no outdoor dining allowed for the last three weeks but.. it is what it is and it's not Red88s fault - just remember to bring a jacket on a cold / wet night as you'll have to walk! My favorite order here is the Curry fried rice - add tofu and season veggies.. and of course bean sprouts - I have no photos of it looking like a beautiful full portion because I inhale the stuff as soon as I get it home! Their casual bar food pre pandemic was also awesome! Drunken pig fries were a staple! And they're always willing to swap the meat to tofu! Looking forward to hopefully seeing some of their sister business Ketmorees menu items added to the red88 menu after they close down!
