    Computer museum (8/14/21)
    Marie B.

I stopped by on a quest with The Homie for computer and stereo gadgets back on 8/14/21. Re-PC is totally much more than that. All electronic tech under the sun, plus they have a mini computer museum off to the side. I like the concept of these vast items not clogging a landfill and a resource for folks who have various electronic project needs. Knowledgeable and helpful staff. This location is Seattle's SoDo industrial district is large. There's also a vast, much bigger location also further south in Tukwila.

    I'm delighted with Re-PC

I must say over the years, I've had WONDERFUL service at Re-PC. I've probably bought 3 computers there. I needed a new mouse and I was treated the same as if I had bought a 2000 buck computer. I could also tell by the interactions that guys there just enjoyed helping people and were to the point, but also fun and light hearted.

One of my favorite places in Seattle. The ultimate for any nerd. Parts for days, cables, monitors, strange gadgets, it's all there.

Love it! Sure, their customer service people are punks; but what do you expect? Just come and get the cheap stuff. Beats CL any day!

At first, we took it to Best Buy Geek Squad, thinking that was our best option: they identified a faulty AIO cooler but ended up damaging other components of my PC even more unfortunately... We were extremely hesitant to trust anyone with this expensive build, but from day one, Dr. PC Fix listened carefully to every issue we had. They were so kind and patient with us while we worked on getting replacement parts, and since their help, my PC has been working PERFECT these past 2-3 years. To this day, I still think about how much they helped and how thorough and professional they were. If you have a build that's precious to you, you can trust Dr. PC Fix completely!

I called Dr PC Fix and explained the issues to Thor and why my dad was unable to bring the computer in and would need an in home repair solution. Thor was able to come that same day after hours and fixed all of the issues that were preventing my dad from using his computer, and he also turned on an accessibility feature already in Windows that my dad can now use for speech to text in programs that he didn't know he could use speech to text. What a relief to get those issues fixed! My dad was so happy, and that makes me happy! Thor was patient and helpful. I went online to get a form and they were all PDFs and wouldn't allow us to make the changes we needed. I'm pretty careful, so looked for conversion software on CNET, which is usually trustworthy. I downloaded it, okd the changes to my computer (which PC Mobile Help had just cleaned on a routine yearly tune-up that I always do), and BAM, I was into Malware land, with pop-ups erupting everywhere. I shut everything down so it wouldn't email my contact list, and tried to knock out the programs with the tools I had on my laptop. Couldn't do it, though I tried everything I knew plus internet searches. My antivirus programs flagged the malware fine, but it just kept coming back and I couldn't fix it. This was 11:30 at night. At 9:00 Am I called PC Mobile Help and they linked to my computer through the program called TeamViewer that I've downloaded and that lets them take command of my computer. They ran tests, ran programs, gave me programs to download and run off-line, walked me through it in every way. It took two hours, but they got rid of the malware and got the computer that I rely on for work and everything else working fine. Dealing with a malfunctioning computer on top of everything else was the last thing I needed at that point, and they found a way to fix it--even though I was in Los Angeles and they were in their Seattle office. I'm just hugely grateful. They're also just really nice people. I've also had them work remotely to tune-up computers of the staff for a project called the Campus Election Engagement Project and that's taken a huge load off of my mind as well. Got them to fix computers for our staff working in Florida, North Carolina and Everett. I love them and recommend them really highly.

The Recycling Depot - Binford vs the recycling depot‍

I Came Here On Purpose...and They Blew It!…read more With gas pushing $6 per gallon, I decided to explore a closer scrap yard option instead of driving all the way to Kent. So I came to The Recycling Depot deliberately -- on purpose -- to compare their prices against other yards in the Seattle area. I left knowing one thing for certain: they don't know what fair pricing looks like. They paid me $0.03/lb for steel. That's right -- three cents. My load was 700 lbs of steel, and they handed me $21.00 for it. That same steel would've been worth around $42 elsewhere (or more depending on the yard). Add in stainless, aluminum, and brass, and my total ticket came to $31.25. Laughable. For comparison, Binford Metal Recycling in Kent would've paid me double on steel alone. That's $21 straight out of my pocket they basically stole -- and that's just one metal. The difference on a full load like mine? Easily $50-$60. Real money. Real loss. And the worst part? No transparency. No explanation. Just: weighed it, printed it, paid you, next. If you don't know scrap prices, you'll get taken. If you do, you'll never return. They failed the test. I came prepared, and they got exposed. I won't be back -- and neither should you!
