What's not to like about an ethical electronics recycling outift like 3R Technology. I dropped off an old laptop fan there and learned that they take all kinds of old electronics gear as part of the E-cycle Washington program. None of the donated electronics gets shipped off to some other place. All of the materials stay local and recycled the right way. I was greeted by super friendly staff who were just upbeat and happy to answer any questions I had. They have a few aisles of refurbished (they have a repair tech/tester on staff) computer electronics and audio visual electronics for cheap. One of the staff members mentioned that from time to time, they receive some real nuggets of gold as people offload their expensive gaming computer accessories so check back and you might find something cool for a bargain. Can't get easier than that! Took bunch of old and broken electronics over today to recycle them. Never had to step inside the building. Just back up to the loading dock and ring a bell and a couple of guys came out to take my stuff. Had to sign a simple form for recycling a TV, but that took about 30 seconds. They're also a good place to go if you want to buy used computer equipment. They've got a small warehouse of desktops, laptops, servers, routers, switches, printers, hard drives, network cards, cables, power surges, etc. The prices are pretty good. There's a 2 week warranty on computers. I bought an older HP desktop to use as a Linux firewall/router for $70. It came with 1GB of RAM, a 2.6GHz CPU and a 40GB hard drive. I've had it up and running for about 3 weeks with no problems. The inventory just depends on what they can find, so if you're looking for something specific you should probably call ahead. What an amazing place!! It's basically where electronics go to die, and then get reincarnated as someone else's baby. The store is a total treasure trove. If you need something, just show up and ask if they have it. 3R takes parts from all the big guys (Amazon, Microsoft) and refurbishes them so that they can find a good home with you and avoid the landfill. You also get $10 off if you check-in via Yelp, foursquare, Facebook, etc. Best part of the store: the guys that work there are funny, knowledgeable and totally radically geeky, my favourite people. I bought a used monitor and some speakers here for my PS4. The staff were helpful and even checked in the back room for a 4ms connection so my game didn't lag. You should know what you're looking for when you come here and be prepared to sort through older equipment but the prices can't be beat. ~$50 for the 22" monitor and $10 for computer speakers that have pleasantly surprised me. Not your normal computer guys. These guys are not Best Buy computer "experts" and are not your typical snooty computer tech. They are helpful and know their stuff. Low key, not pressured at all they allowed me to walk around and just browse for a long time. I've bought a number of products from 3R, both laptops I've owned and my desktop at home all great products for very cheap. I returned a laptop due to a dim screen and they were able to do a direct exchange with the same model and got it all working while I was there. I work in the networking industry and spend my days designing and building global backbones and large scale datacenters. I'm pretty particular about the gear I deploy for my personal and home networks and generally prefer industrial/commercial/enterprise grade equipment. As you can imagine, that type of gear usually doesn't come cheap. Luckily, tech-refresh cycles can force equipment that once cost tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars while new back into the market at pennies on the dollar in the form of reuse and recycled resale. The unfortunate part is finding them. 3RTechnology is one of the few places I've found where I can source the quality of gear I'm accustomed to working with for my own personal use. I found this place looking for used overhead projectors for art projects on Craigslist. It was a bit hard to find but when I parked and went up to the building there was already a sign telling me that this company was on the other side of the building, and parking was fine (and free!) there. It's very industrial looking and not a welcoming retail store, but it was still easy to get to. Everyone, and I mean everyone I saw was super friendly (in a genuine way) and nice--from the guy loading inventory from a truck to the guys in the warehouse and the guy behind the desk. They had my projector on hold since I had emailed them about it earlier that day (and got very timely replies) and were happy to show me around the rest of the place. There is a ton of stuff (refurbished electronics) all there and it actually seems like a way cool place to just go look around and shop at, whether you have anything in mind or not! Everything was in great condition and some of the stuff didn't seem like it had ever even been used. I have a geeky kid with a slight addiction to Minecraft. For his 12th birthday the idea was floated around the extended family to get him a computer. Instead of getting him a new computer, a friend suggested we should check out 3R Technology and their array of used computers because surely one would meet his needs. And, how! The guys at 3R took some time to figure out which would be the best one for a kid who likes to play games and watch YouTube videos about those games. I was able to get him an extravagant birthday present for a far less than extravagant price. I love the fact that they have a 30 day warranty if something should go wrong. Usually you know within 30 days if something is going to tank or not. 3R has the friendliest staff imaginable. They are nowhere near as intimidating as other computer shops in town where you have to speak geek in order to get good service. More than that, though, I am now sold on the concept of reusing and recycling computer and electronic equipment. We are being spoon-fed the idea that we constantly need to upgrade and buy newer, better, faster while the old products just sit around or, worse, end up in the landfill. I am rejecting that notion. Normally I would search Craigs list for things like keyboard or an old laptop, why this is better is because unlike craigslisters the prices here reflect the true market value of the item. I just bought a (it looked new) replacement Apple keyboard for $10. Its not the latest design but people were asking $20 to $25 for the same design on CL. We live down in Tacoma and only manage to make it to 3R about once every other month. I felt compelled to write this review after seeing William C's 1-star review of 3R. I made a Yelp account just so I could get on here and let the world know how much I love this company. 3R Technology has gone above and beyond my expectations every time I have dealt with them. They are incredibly knowledgeable about the equipment they sell and have always given me great advice. I'm currently running my entire small business off of systems from 3R and I've never had a single issue with their hardware or there service. Who else can you even think of that has a 30-day return window for this kind of stuff? All the places in my town only offer 7-day returns. Some of them are similar to Re-Pc and have no return policy on used equipment at all. In my experiences with 3R everyone there knows their stuff. I've had some obscure hardware needs in the past and 3R has either been able to help me with my needs or point me in the direction of someone who can. Bottom line - I love 3R read more
