A few weeks ago, I had the situation in which my laptop was not recognizing my charger while I was working. I called Dell & they immediately jumped to me needing to mail my laptop to Texas for a week where the rep was convinced that my "starboard was corrupt" when she did not run any diagnostics on it yet my laptop would "need to be wiped". I didn't trust it & chose to take my laptop in to get it looked at by Renton Computers. I paid for them to run diagnostics to see what the matter was & heard back from them the next day that it was actually the laptop charger. I ordered one via amazon & i was back up & running in no time. Their website mentioned battery replacement of cell phones, so I went there to have my cell phone battery replaced. Oh, no, said the woman who walked out of the back room, we don't replace cell phone batteries. But your website... Yes, she said, we need to have that changed. Buyer beware. This place is a nightmare of incompetence and lack of integrity. Owner Sam would take no responsibility for installing a broken screen on my laptop. Read the positive reviews you can tell they are fake. Standing around in this place for 15 mins will prove that little gets done properly. Misrepresented pricing, shoddy workmanship and poor customer service are what you will get. I went in to fix my pc, they charged me 100$ just to take a look at it and scan. Then they told me if i wanted to fix my pc it would be 400$. And 800$ to recover data. I would definitely not recommend this and i recommend you do it yourself. read more

I've used these folks for two recent drive repairs and they have actually performed well above expectations, recovering data that was vital to our company. They were a last chance try. I had a really good experience with Renton Computers last month. I brought in 3 older laptops that needed new CPU fans installed. Things I liked: (1) Saturday hours - this was a big plus. (2) People answer the phone - When I called the store, they actually answered the phone. (3) Clear communication - email updates, optional text updates, and a web-portal to check on the status of the repairs. (4) Almost on schedule - one laptop was ready on the scheduled completion date, one took one more day because of a part delay. (5) Reasonable prices - one of the PCs I brought in had the same fan repair a year earlier at a competitor for ~20% less money. The fan failed again after 8 months, so that was a waste. I prefer to pay a bit more quality work. Things I didn't like: None Definitely would use them again. read more

I don't know. Charged me $ 280 for a hard drive replacement, problem is, the new drive is almost as noisy as the old one. Plus, data transfer of my old files was an additional $ 150 but I declined to have them do. Almost think they just put an old hard drive they had laying around in my Dell. Shouldn't a new hard drive run close to silently? The last thing I would do now is take it back for them to charge me more to do God knows what else to it. Totally disappointed. read more

My 2009 Macbook pro was diagnosed as needing my hard drive replaced, I brought it in to Renton Computers, Michael helped me to transfer the info from my old hard drive to my new hard drive & made my 11 year old laptop look & work like new! Not happy with the service of my laptop and server. I brought the laptop in due to the display faulty. After $200, still had the same problem and a dead battery. Just the facts. I took my computer in because I dropped it on the charging cable and the charging port was broken. They charged me $45 to diagnose the issue, and explained that I needed a new charging port. They quoted $20 for the part and $200 for labor. They also told me it wouldn't be done for a week. I wasn't happy with this, so I picked up my computer. I opened the back on the laptop, and noticed that the piece that was broken was an extremely simple fix, as in, you unplug the broken piece, and plug in the new piece. It was a fifteen minute fix, and I am by no means an expert, nor did I have the right tools. My opinion: They were going to charge me $200 to plug something in. That's like paying someone to come over and plug your vacuum in for you. Absolutely ridiculous, and almost criminal that they would charge so much. read more

May 2, 2018: Took my Lenovo Yoga 13 laptop in to get it fixed after 2 years of it not working. The issues: Screen would stay black as if I never touched the power button even though it was on. When laptop would turn on, certain keys wouldn't work (about 4 of them), but the others worked fine. You have to pay their diagnostic fee, which identifies whatever is wrong with the laptop, be it a hardware issue (physical problems with it) or a software issue (something wrong with the computer's programming that makes it not function properly). Renton Computers will tell you that the diagnostic is $45, but it's REALLY $50 ($49.50 in total, including tax). So be prepared for that. And you have to pay that upfront after telling them what's wrong with your computer. *Note*: It's a good idea to make a report of all the issues going on with your laptop so they have something to refer back to when checking for issues with your computer so they can fix it. When I made my report, they determined that the reason certain things like the screen not turning wasn't working due to a fried motherboard, which they had to replace. May 15, 2018: Laptop is finally repaired, all the issues fixed. In total, it took 2 weeks for them to fix my Yoga 13. Spent exactly $471.90 on the repairs in total. Like I said, I also paid the diagnostic fee of $49.50 to begin with, so REALLY, I paid $512 for my Yoga 13 to be fixed in all. These guys are expensive, but what do you expect for a computer repair shop? Be sure to save up a decent amount before going to these guys, just to be safe. I saved up $800 to be able to afford to fix my Yoga 13 and spent $512 altogether to get it fixed. WORTH EVERY PENNY. It's great having my laptop back after 2 years of it not working. These guys are worth it if you have the cash for your computer repair. Save up your money if you want to go to these guys...they're worth it. read more

Brought In my laptop to have a program installed they let me know my laptop was finished and picked it up. When I got home tried to get it to work and it would not connect to the internet . Before taking it in, it would connect fast. After they put their hands on it, it was worthless. Took it in again and they wanted to charge me another $200 . They said they needed to do some malware removal on the laptop. No there wasn't! Took it to another computer store and they said whoever installed this program it had malware attached and that it infected my computer. I told them it was Renton Computers who did this and they said that was your first mistake taking it there. I brought my pc for repair since it was not working properly and explain to Mary what was wrong with it. So they got to work on it and when i return to pick it up the bill was $479.32. I asked her why so expensive she said your tower needed this whole list of repairs. I believe they overcharged me but as long as my pc is fixed thats fine. Then couple of month flew by and my pc was out of order so I called mary and she said; sorry out of warranty . I said I spent almost $500.00 dollars at this place and you couldnt even check the pc out and she said she would have to charge me another $75 to check. I became very angry and said I could of dropped my pc elsewhere to repair but I chose your place to support the small business and she said sorry . Of all the place I should of gone I get ripped off at Renton Computer. The PC continued to have the same problems that I spoke to Mary about and now it no longer logs on and cannot do anything other than to take it elsewhere. CUSTOMER BEWARE OF THIS RENTON COMPUTER THEY ARE A RIP OFF AND OVERCHARGES YOU AND LIE TO YOUR FACE SAYING ITS ALL REPAIRED. So much for buying local. My kid had a key on his laptop pop off and I decided to keep my business local and see if local computer shop could make the simple repair. Instead, the salesperson tried to sell my wife a new keyboard and even went so far as to say that HP would not cover the broken key under warranty (which is not the case). The salesperson could easily have ordered the part and installed it for a nominal fee and acquired a new customer and future business. Instead, he did nothing to help. I ordered the part on-line for laptopkeys.com for about $6 with shipping. We won't be going back to this Renton Computers and won't recommend them to family and friends. I took my computer into this shop because it was making a funny noise and I needed help installing some new hardware. I paid for a diagnostic and they identified the problem as an issue with my graphics card fan. Luckily the graphics card was one of the parts I was already planning on replacing anyway. I also asked for help installing a few SSD's. It turns out my system was a pain to work with because it uses a server motherboard. Despite this, they still didn't charge me any extra than their original quote. They also helped me identify the correct adapter mounts I needed for my machine. Overall I was happy with their communication and expertise. They configured my machine exactly how I asked and identified the issue with my graphics card. I would recommend this company to a friend or colleague. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would! By far the WORST customer service I have ever received in my entire life! By the end of dealing with this company I was out $100, still broken laptop and in tears. I brought 2 computers here one after the other and BOTH times they didn't contact me. My laptop sat there for days because they didn't call me to let me know what the estimate was. They tried to say that they emailed me but obviously they did not have the correct email down for me. This happened both times with both computers. And I wasted 100$ for nothing because all they did was waste my time. I wasn't able to register for classes because I didn't have my laptop for so long. I even called them to check up on the status of my computer and they didn't say anything other than that it's being worked on. I don't leave reviews often, unless I was blown away by amazing service, or, in this case, am appalled by the service, or lack of, received. If Google reviews would allow, I would leave zero stars, not one. I went into Renton Computers on Monday, October 28th to see if they may be able to help with my phone screen. I am a single Mom on a tight budget, and my daughter dropped my iphone 7 plus, breaking the screen. When I brought it in, the phone worked perfectly fine, there was just a long crack at the top left portion of the screen of the phone. I dropped it off, and the front desk man took $130.90 payment upfront for the screen replacement, and told me to head back in an hour or so to pick it up. I do as instructed, and head back in a little over an hour to pick up my phone. When I get there, I am told the phone is not fixed. He said, in the process of taking off the broken screen, the camera and speaker were damaged, so now the camera, speaker and the screen would need to be replaced. He said since when I first came in, only the screen was broken, and not these other things, he would "take 50% off the cost" of the replacement speaker/camera, leaving me owing an extra $50 on top of the $130.90 I paid. He also mentioned that the parts need to be ordered for everything but the screen, which he said he had. So for now, he was going to put a new screen on, and call me when the speaker/cam came in. I was irritated, but said fine, and sat and waited an hour in the store for them to finish my screen. An hour later, and just past closing, they bring me out my pone. It not only still has the broken screen I had originally brought in, but the screen was FAR worse now, basically 100% unusable (the whole screen was covered in black spots). He said he made a mistake, and the screen he THOUGHT would fit, actually didn't. Isn't that something you should check PRIOR to taking the screen off, wasting time, and telling me you CAN do the job? I wasted 3 hours of my work day to have my phone broken worse. Instead of just a long scratch at the top, I now had black dots EVERYWHERE on the screen, couldn't make calls because I couldn't hear out of the speaker, and couldn't take photos. I was irritated (to say the least) leaving the shop. I am not one to make a scene though, so I simply expressed my frustration, then he refunded my money, or so he says, back to my card. As I said earlier, I paid $130.90 upfront. He then took my card back, and refunded the $130.90 back to the card (in my opinion he should've done much more to cover the 3 hours time lost at work, and breaking my phone significantly worse than it was). I leave, and cut my losses. I look at my account that night, and see one charge for $130.90, and one credit back for $130.90. Perfect. We're good to go. THEN, 4 days later, i see ANOTHER new charge for $130.90 from Renton Computers. I call them, wondering why I was charged again, and they explained a refund would take a week. "You should see the money returned to your account by Monday November 4th. There's nothing more we can do." Why, when the charge and refund already hit days prior, was a new charge made? Why on earth would it take basically a week to get my money back? None of that makes sense. Now, Wednesday November 6th, I STILL have not received my $130.90 refund. Did I mention I am a single mother? If I had money lying around, I would've simply went and purchased a new phone. This money being out of my account (and during the 1st of the month when all bills are due) has created a hardship for me, and I simply want my money back which I STILL DON'T HAVE! I will NEVER be returning to this company, and plan to steer anyone considering going there FAR away! I will also be contacting the BBB regarding the money owed to me. read more

Tried to upsell me their yearly plan. 159. So I decided to go to a local repair shop and deal in person. Went to RC. Michael and Patrick were friendly direct and helpful. The owner Sam K. Was great at pickup. Took two days. They found some malware blocking ports. Duplicate printer software installed. Sam asked me to test print before I left. Everything worked. Great. The bill was half as much as they quoted. $49 vs 99 or 159 on it online help. Glad to help a small business. Will pass my testimony to my Renton chamber members and insurance agent friends too. Brought my laptop in to Renton Computers. Told them that my battery was dead and I needed a new battery. I was told that they had to run a full diagnostic (for $55) to find out what the REAL problem was. Next, I was asked for my password to unlock my laptop! After my shock wore off, I refused and told them that I don't give out my password to anyone, ever. The repair person seemed ticked off at this for some reason. He told me he could only do the hardware diagnostic and not the software diagnostic without my password. Why I needed a software diagnostic for a dead battery I'll never know. Of course, I was charged $55 even though the software part of it was not done. The diagnostic revealed that I needed a new battery and power cord. Surprise, surprise. 15 days later, my laptop was ready. The customer service is appalling, repairs take forever, and the store is filthy. You're better off going elsewhere. read more

I don't understand why they insist on running diagnostics when we know what the problem is. My laptop was not charging my battery. The sales person insisted that I buy diagnostics for $45 and told that it will diagnose all parts like HDD etc. Who would want to check HDD when the problem is with the charging port. Also, I had run diagnostics from a different place which they don't accept. They want to run it fresh again! read more

It's been a while since I have dealt with this shop. I had a computer hanging up. Their evaluation was that there was a virus on every port ( ??? ) and they wanted ( too much ) to remove it, to clean it all up. And then insisted that I needed the AV from the company which is in Moscow. I took the machine to another shop in Renton which unfortunately is now out of business (couldn't establish enough visibility); that guy fixed the problem and ran a clean for half the cost; it then worked just fine. read more

Have used this company more than once. Been completely satisfied all times. There has been some change in the back room staff and I really approve. The young man who helped me was very good and really knew his stuff. I have a good friend that was actually mad at me for taking it to a computer shop because he says "THEY NEVER KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING."
