Place checks all the boxes for a high volume and formative tech space. Overhead 4K, display monitors showcasing order progress dashboards ... touchscreen/rotating arm POS systems for intake/registration ...hardware rendered semi-organized on racks for pick-up or advertisement ... consistent brand style. The issue here is -- there is a diagnostic paywall. I went in and expressed I am an application developer working on a CompTIA Security + license (with the pre-requisite review of A+/Network+) -- I told them the diagnostic tools I use on my machine and expressed I ONLY needed a screen replacement which I would order the supplies for and that I could remove the screen/display from the brackets and shell before coming in saving the agent time since I already have a laptop repair kit and use it often but only for minor repairs/maintenance. The attendant Jake -- insisted that I needed to run a diagnostic to determine if there were any alternative problems. Moreover, expressed I needed to pay $179.99 for any of the techs to work on my machine as well as any service costs. Altogether, if I was oblivious, I would have been paying about $250 to $275 for a machine whose YTD retail value is $185 for a service activity that at most takes 45 minutes for 'certified' individual and costs $60 to $125. For this task, I was told it would take about 5 days to complete this task; this indicates that they use block prioritization (availability) RATHER than dynamic scheduling based on task completion estimates. When I pressed him on what certifications the techs had, he did not seem to know what CompTIA was nor did he express which certifications they had. I asked to maybe get an idea how they were justifying their pricing, but got no such detail before he rushed into the next step. Next, it is quite annoying when you are attempting to figure out if a service is worth the expense, but before you get a chance to explain your situation they are asking you all sorts of PII (first name, last name, address, email, phone number). I have since seen that even if they do not get the sale, they will hound you with marketing/promotional material until you unsubscribe. Even so, there is no guarantee they will not share your information with third-parties for a vertical (B2B) sale. Due diligence for a conscious consumer will reveal the cracks in this place. read more

Diagnostics and feedback for simple electromechanical problem (charger plug misfunction) took 2x promised time, after 3 reminders, 10 business days. No communication re ticket status without customer initiative. The requested job was not done, messages about status of repair and replacement were absent and /or controversial. Both reception personnel and owner were not following their promises and statements, owner allowed himself to be passive-aggressive, proposing the Google Translation as a possible shield for lack of answering to customer questions. It was just rude. Absolutely not worth the upfront taken payment (about $60). read more

Useless advice at high prices. I took in an older computer with a noisy cooling fan for inspection. The inspection cost $60.00 and the conclusion was that a replacement would cost $200, as much as the computer was worth: about $100 for the part and another $100 for labor. I took the computer back, found the identical part on eBay for $15.00, and my 12 year old son installed it in 10 minutes. Paying a high fee for an inspection or troubleshooting is only worth it if the advice is good and if they steer the customer to the most cost-effective option. This time, it was a waste of time and money. read more

Firstly, I wish I could give Nerds To Go 10 stars; 5 stars does not begin to convey my appreciation. I have always believed there are two types of people in the world. You know the drill: dog people vs. cat people, football fans vs. baseball fans and finally, there are text people vs. e-mail people. I am firmly in the e-mail camp. In fact, I once lost my phone for a week and did not even miss it. On the other hand, if my e-mail is not working, everyone within 6 counties can hear me whine, complain and generally make everyone in Washington State miserable until Comcast decides to return my 72 support call voicemails. Because I am very attached to my laptop, I am not one of those people who swaps out technology frequently. The laptop I was using was 12 years old and mostly functional. However, on a good day it took my laptop 15 minutes to boot up. Most of the time I was cool with that; multi-tasking is one of my core competencies. I could do a load of laundry, make a fresh pot of coffee, etc., while waiting for my laptop to boot up. But, then, one day, long after the requisite 15 minutes, my precious Dell laptop still had not booted up. Panic set in. Then, in a rare moment of clarity, I remembered Dell has a fabulous sale in late July. The end of this particular drama was I purchased a brand-new laptop which arrived 2 days later. The new laptop sat on my dining room table for almost 2 months. My cats paid more attention to the new laptop than did I. During that time, I stressed about all the times I had taken my laptop in for service only to have it returned with software I did not want or need, lost Contacts, non-functioning e-mail etc. I had no interest in repeating any of those experiences with this new laptop. I knew I did not want to continue doing business with the computer repair business I had previously used. So I signed into Yelp. I looked for the Computer Service with the most 5 stars and Nerds To Go popped up. Not one to rush into anything and especially when it comes to my laptop, I spent weeks and weeks emailing Nerds To Go. I suspect there might have been some amount of eye-rolling when the Nerds To Go team saw yet another email land in their Inbox with my name in the From field. Ultimately, Jake from Nerds To Go came to my home to transfer the data and set up my new laptop. Jake is a brilliant IT professional. And, the very best part was he was able to retrieve my long-lost Contacts! I could not be happier with the service I received from Nerds to Go and Jake in particular. He did all the necessary tasks to get the new laptop fully operational and he also installed a new anti-virus solution and a better/faster back-up service. This review has intentionally been written in a semi-humorous manner. However, I want to underline how truly impressed I was and am with Nerds To Go. NerdsToGo has been an absolute lifesaver several times. Most recently, I took my computer to the GeekSquad at Best Buy and they diagnosed my keyboard issue as a severe malfunction of the entire machine and told me there were no fixes. I took the same computer to NerdsToGo the next day and they were able to replace the keyboard and return my computer to full function for a fraction of the price of a new machine. My desktop PC started acting up so I brought it to NerdsToGo in Bellevue and they confirmed my fears that it was indeed finally time to make an upgrade. Repairing the PC would be more expensive than buying a new model and they offered to credit me the diagnosis fee and do a complimentary data transfer if I bought a new machine with them. I chose to buy a custom built PC that they had out for the floor display, that they had built from scratch. They gave me an amazing price which beat out the competition online so I went for it. I just got the PC home and it is working great so far. It's very fast, the data transfer was perfect and the tower itself is sleek and much more modern looking than my last PC. I am %100 satisfied with my purchase. I would also like to comment on the staff. I was helped by several different individuals and every one of them was knowledgeable and courteous. I never had to wait to be helped and the store was clean and comfortable. I was able to park right in front of the entrance each time and the location is easy to find. We couldn't be happier with the service from NerdsToGo! They solved our very upsetting problems very quickly. My husband and I have been stressed out with a move from our house to a condo. Before the move, we had to transfer all the data from our old desktop computer to a new laptop, convert from Centurylink to Comcast for internet service, change our email address, and then transfer all our existing emails from centurylink.net to outlook.com. And we didn't have much time to get this done before our move! Amazingly, Steven and Austin at Nerds to Go solved all our problems in record time! I had some technical difficulties getting everything working correctly on my new laptop. I had a subscription to Support.com and worked with them on the transfer of everything from my old laptop to my new laptop. However, I learned that they are very limited in their technical capabilities when it comes to challenges beyond the most basic. That led to me try to find technical support that was local (i.e. not based in India) and more capable. I found NerdsToGo on Yelp and thought it would be worth a shot. My first concern was whether they could provide remote support as I didn't want to have to take my 2 (old and new) laptops into a shop to fix what was essentially a data transfer problem. Fortunately, NerdsToGo does offer remote support - and by appointment! Bonus. So Jeana (very nice) set up an appointment with Todd to help me out. Todd called at the appointed time and we spent the next couple hours working on my list of problems. Todd was very knowledgeable, helpful and cool when we ran into glitches. Todd was able to figure out solutions to all but one of my issues - which is a real hairball issue. Walk in's WELCOME or they can do a "drive by shooting" for you at your home--located by the old railroad tracks and under the new Light Rail off 8th Ave NE in Bellevue with free parking up front and next to Rack N Road Car Hitch company. All of my Business is my labtop and my 1 1/2 year old Windows 10 Dell Inspiron labtop touch pad left clicker was sticking--so they took a look (Diagnostic is free) and after 90 minutes (you have to take the whole labtop apart from the backside, to get to the touch pad on the front side) -- So here's the rest of the story--they could not fix it without ordering a part (5 days shipping) However, they checked the warranty and I had brought an extended warranty from Dell that still covered the unit--so how COOL is that?? Nerds to Go is new here in Bellevue so I want everyone to know that there is a great reliable place to take your computer to get serviced. I had a failing hard drive in a one year old HP Paviivion. I know - One Month our of Warranty. Go figure. In any event I decided to convert to an SSD and we had numerous file issues do to the impending failure. The transfer failed several times. I want everyone to know how diligently the tech worked ( Steve ) over several days to recover all of my data even if I did not know what was stored where. Turns out most of it was in the cloud already and I did not know it was not on my hard drive as well.
