I really think the owner should rename this place to Ramen-No. This place gave me a similar feeling like the time when I bought an item off of Ebay for a bargain price and expected it to be really good because of it's pretty packaging, only to find out it was a really low quality, copycat item from China. So if you're planning on visiting this place to taste some real Japanese quality (or something close to it), then look elsewhere. The interior is saturated in a traditional Japanese Ramen restaurant theme. They even go so far as to place a traditional Noren flag above the entrance of the business. They also have seating right next to the cook and kitchen counter. It does look pretty nice, and definitely tickled my Japense Ramen feels. The staff provided an expected level of service from a ramen shop. I ordered the Big Bowl Ramen since I was really hungry after not eating all day and working out. It was maybe only $11.50, and thought that was a really good price, and I had no idea how big a "Big Bowl Ramen" was. When they brought it to the table and set it in front of me I quickly noticed that super, over-cooked boiled egg (When I say over-cooked, I mean the yolk was turning dark around the edges and dry. You know what i'm talking about) I felt the bate and switch consumer remorse set it. The feeling intensified when I took my first swill of the broth. That remorseful feeling grew more and more with every new ingredient I tried from that bowl of ramen (if you even want to call it that). I am the least picky eater on the planet, and I only made it maybe through a 3rd of my ramen, which was a surprise considering how hungry I was, but I could not stomach the rest of it. For a business who is trying to copy the artistic theme of other business' culture, I'd advise to make sure you include the most important parts; The sense of pride and attention to detail in the products and ingredients that they present to their customers. There are much better options out there to choose from for maybe a small fraction more. I enjoy particularly ordering the chicken Katsura curry and the Panko-shrimp tempura! I order from Ramenya atleast once a week and I love the Gyoza also! They currently have had inside eating for 2 months it feels like but not sure when dining started. I think it's a decision the buisnesses make following Covid regulations and they do sanitize taking it as seriously as possible. Sadly I have to revise my earlier review. They raised their prices, which is fine, but the quality went down the hill. So while it's pricier, it's definitely not worth it anymore. I always went for a combo, which is soup, gyoza and "small" main dish. The wonton soup is mostly the wonton noodle wrapping in a broth that used to be delicious, has barely any flavor anymore. The gyoza is still tasty, but it's the only good part about the special combo. I ordered mochiko chicken and the best part about the chicken dish was the side of macaroni salad. We got the Jumbo Ramen and the combo that includes a mini shoyu Ramen , beef stew over rice, 4 piece gyoza. Are beef stew had carrots and beef. The beef was soft and very lean. Happened to be at the shopping center for an appointment and needed something to eat and so happened to be right in front of this establishment. I'm not keen on eating soup or ramen on an already hot day but this spot was perfect. The combo was a great deal - gyoza, ramen and a side (which is really more like a mini plate). Here's a quick disclaimer to avoid disappointment when you go into Ramen-Ya: Low prices, huge portions, mediocre taste. After 3 hours of paddling with Hawaiian Surf Adventures, I was on the hunt for some sustenance. I stopped by Ramen-Ya with some fairly low expectations given the ratings at this place and ordered chicken fried rice and their wonton soup combo with chicken katsu. The service was very quick and the food came out even quicker. Immediately upon ordering a side of chicken katsu, it came out piping hot and perfectly crispy. The sauce was not as thick as I would have liked, but the katsu itself tasted fine. The gyoza was crispy at the bottom and had a good amount of meat inside. The wonton soup lacked meat inside the wontons though. It was mostly slippery folds of wonton sheets. The chicken fried rice came out in a huge mound covering the plate. It was Chinese-styled fried rice using long grain rice and had a salty taste. Overall, the average quality food was made up for by quick service and quick preparation. I knew what I was getting coming into this shop, so with that in mind, I feel that the shop met my expectations and even exceeded it with their speed. Came here with some friends for lunch and was craving some ramen out on the east side! Turns out, there's a new ramen shop nearby costco! Also turns out, it's not so great. They have a wide variety of ramen here to my surprise. Even some chinese dishes with noodles, such as stir fry noodles with veggies, etc. To me, there wasnt much flavor to the broth with the ramen. They do give you a big portion, which some may like, but all of it is pretty bland and I couldn't really get through it at all because i got tired of the taste. I had nothing better to do on a Friday night after working out at the 24 Hour Fitness in Koko Marina, so I came here looking for dinner to kick off the weekend in style. I was kind of bored with what Koko Marina had to offer (Teddy's, Starbucks, and Subway pretty much), so I ventured onto the other shopping mall in the thick of Hawaii Kai and came across this place. I was like, a ramen place? Really? I needed to search my soul and needed to see if I really needed to eat at a ramen shop when my heart belong to Pho. After initially reading the reviews on this place, I was not looking forward to coming here, but I saw the this place was kind of packed, so I decided to check things out. I discovered very quickly that this place does take reservations. What?! Reservations? For ramen? You got to be shitting me. But there it was. This place is very simple in its design and they try a bit hard to make it sound like it's an upscale place, but it really isn't. I do like the decor and the restaurant layout, but of course, it is very simple, like the layout of a Vietnamese restaurant, but more pleasing to the eye and interesting. The restaurant itself is quite small, but can hold a good size people. Probably around 50 people at its max, so I am guessing that's why they do the reservations thing. This place reminds me of other ramen places, but this place isn't what it it should be. The redeeming value to this place was that they do give generous portions for a competitive price. I had been to Goma Tei, and yes, that place is somewhat similar, although Goma Tei gave you less noodles than you want. Ramen-ya, however, gave more noodles than I thought, which was pretty good and I was happy. This place sounded good when I was coming into the restaurant and ended up having mixed feelings about this place. Yes, I do liked the fact that this place takes credit card, but on the other hand, the atmosphere reminded me of a crowded lunch room and everything was kind of noisy. While that was ok with most people, I didn't feel as comfortable as I should have been. The service was definitely ok, but not so great. They did refill our water a few times, but that's about it. Quick and friendly, but nothing else than that. I shouldn't expect more from this place, but again, I probably was from the get go, especially noticing the decor of the place. Maybe it's just Hawaii Kai, and you just need to keep the place looking somewhat fancy, because people just expects it to be, and not run down like public housing. But anyway, the location was great, since it's attached to the Hawaii Kai Towne shopping center, so you can get your Starbucks frappuchino if you are feeling something sweet after your meal. I basically had a set menu, which was like a combo meal for Japanese eateries. I had set A, which was the mini fried rice, mini shoyu ramen, and 4 pieces of gyoza. All for $8.95. The taste was average, but decent enough. I even had to ask for the hot sauce to make my rame n give itself some identity and flavor to make it more interesting for my palate. I probably would say that this place wasn't as enjoyable as I thought I would be, but I guess every experience is a learning experience, so I probably won't be back though - especially since you can buy this stuff at the store and make it at home. 5 stars you ask? Oh yah, I'm telling you, Ramen Ya is ONO! My family and I came here for a family dinner and had practically one of everything on the menu. I am actually snacking on some left over friend rice as I type this review. From 2-5 is gyoza happy hour, FREE set of gyoza, how can you beat that?! The gyoza is made with a special machine imported from Japan to make the bottom of the dumpling nice and crispy and the top of the skin nice and tender sealing the meat and vegetable filling. My Order: Seafood Ramen in Soyu: came out PIPING HOT, stacked full of seafood. Plenty of fish, calamari (the thick slices, not rings), shrimp, brocoli, carrots and snap peas. This huge bowl will definitely fill you up. You may not even be able to finish if you order other sides like we did Order for the table: TOFU APPETIZER: traditional dish of chilled tofu slices, with green onions and soy SEAFOOD GINMIN (or crunchy noodles) I love this dish to start with and Ramen Ya did a great job here. What can I say about the place...........well, I would say the menu is fairly simple. Prices are fairly reasonable, food is just okay.......maybe a bit below average, but I must say, the service was very rude!!!! When we got seated, the waitress threw the menus on the table & walked away. Upon coming back to take our order...........I felt like I was on an assembly line. You know...........take order, eat food, pay for food, then foot in the @ss to kick me out the door!!!! I think this place is run by Chinese people............so rude! And don't get me wrong, I'm not being racist, as I'm Chinese!!!! Anyway.........let's get to the grub. I ordered combo set "A" for $8.95. You get a mini Ramen, 4 pieces of Gyoza, & a choice of the following - mini Fried Rice, Chicken Katsu, Spam Katsu, Mochiko Chicken, Beef Curry, or Gyoza Curry. I ended up ordering the Chicken Katsu......but I actually got a Chicken Katsu Curry. My friend ordered a Spicy Seafood Ramen........... Overall I would say the food was just okay.............they give a lot of food for $8.95, and my meal could have fed at least two people. I wasn't crazy about it..........but the hot Ramen satisfied my cravings as yesterday the the perfect day to have this. Texture of the noodles, as well as the Chicken Katsu Curry, were done well. Aside from the rude service, I'd give this place an average rating of "3" for the food, but below average rating of "1" for service.........therefore the overall rating of "2" for this place. We've tried this place many times. Well priced in my opinion. Pretty quick and efficient. Sometimes you can tell the waitresses can be absent minded but all in all they handle their stuff. Most of the tables are for 4 people so if you walk in with two and see a 4 top open they will most likely push 1-3 on the counter. Try not to sit next to the pass line from the kitchen to dining area. It can get busy and the chatter between cooks and wait staff can get a bit loud and irritating. Don't expect authentic ramen here but still a good spot. read more

Ramen-Ya is a Chinese-operated ramen establishment where the menu and format is pretty much a standard template (similar to how L&L barbecue type restaurants are). There are 5 locations on Oahu and 1 location on Maui. Our most recent visit was to the Hawaii Kai restaurant in Hawaii Kai Towne Center for dinner. I went with Combo A - mini ramen, chicken katsu curry and gyoza (pictured below). My mother also chose Combo A with fried rice. My father had a regular char siu ramen. Combo A is a big meal...especially for $9.25. Great job with the chicken katsu curry. It hit the spot. The fried rice exceeded expectations: tasty and very plentiful. Nice. Unfortunately the ramen was very meh, definitely way off the mark from the best ramen in town. We all felt that the broth was well below par and needed a lot of work. We had similar meh feelings about the gyoza. Despite the shortcomings noted above, the positives from our dining experiences at Ramen-Ya really stood out as impressive to us. Service was lightning fast: we sat down, beverages were provided, orders taken and we had our food in front of us all within about 5 minutes. The food portions were very generous. Prices are cheap too so the value is here for sure. Maybe it is because Ramen-Ya has physically newer restaurants, but on the whole I do find all of the locations offer nicer and cleaner interiors compared to the many competing establishments out there. The menu claims the Big Bowl and some of the other ramen are Sapporo style, which is a distinct miso-based broth. There was some miso in the Big Bowl, but it wasn't a stand-out. Big portions for what you pay for. I'm sure we all have eaten at one of their many locations by now, but in case you haven't it's not a legit ramen place. They offer plenty of broths and combos. The ramen isn't amazing, but it's not terrible. I would give the ramen 2 stars, but it gets 3 stars because of the value. Their gyoza is pretty good and the curry is good too. I was so disappointed with their Wan-ton Ramen... I've been passing by this ramen shop several times but didn't believe it would be good so never thought about trying it. After checking the review I gave it a try last night but we really got disappointed... My big baby is a huge fan of Ramen so he got extra noodle to his Wan-ton ramen. He also likes Chuka Ramen which supposed to have Shoyu base soup so he made sure if Wan-ton is Chuka soup and ordered. It was a huge portion and looked really good so he was excited to try but obviously it didn't have ANY flavor at all :( It looked like Miso soup for us cause it was light brown so asked them if it was Miso by some mistake but they said it was Chuka...hmmm. He tried but barely could finish it. I tried but not for me either. My Gomoku ramen soup was okay and had much more flavor compare to his BUT it smelled really weird. When we first got it we both could smell something. Much more weaker but smelled like Clorox. I think it's from Menma on top of it. Usually they don't cook their own Menma but just get a big bag of pre made one which comes with lots of preservatives so it could be that smell. I usually wash when I buy Menma from store and make ramen at home. I didn't want to wast my dinner so I finished mine somehow but it wasn't a pleasant dinner for us. The reason I still give them 2 stars is it's really reasonable. I guess it's kind of hard to get a big portion of Ramen less than $10 and everything on the menu looked pretty reasonable. I would really get upset if it was pricy and this taste but it's cheep so if you are so hungry and want quantity than quality I guess it's the place. Happy hour from 2-5pm. This means you get free gyoza. I ordered the curry ramen $9.75 and it came with 7 free gyoza. I don't eat gyoza but my kid ate it all. She ordered the mochiko chicken combo. It comes with rice, mac salad, side of ramen and more gyoza. She ate all of her ramen, and a bite of chicken (was over cooked and hard she said). I tried the mac salad. Very bland. Nothing beats Zippy's mac salad. It all went home as leftovers for the man. He pretty much ate it all but agreed it was overcooked. The portions are huge and having ate at 2:15pm, was still stuffed til about 9pm. The food was filling and I left feeling bloated. It's similar to Ezogiku. Service was good as we ate at the bar. The waitress came frequently to check on us. I know this place has mixed reviews, but if you want a massive amount of local carbs on the cheap, this is the place. Was worries at first because of the 3 star average review. But it's absolutely more worthy than 3 stars. Ramen size is huge. More than enough to feed a hungry person. Remember to ask for less salt if you prefer lite food. They do have udon option although not on the menu. read more

Came twice with friends, relatives over a 2 week period, once during a Saturday night and another right after it opening for lunch on a Monday. Let's start with the Saturday night...chaos, filled with customers and we had to wait..not too long, but nonetheless. Hardly any greeting to us as customers, they felt rushed and showed it...gave menus and water glasses like robotic figures. Delivered foods and moved things on our table without saying 'excuse me' to make room. Same for the check..like sneaking it under the radar...only time there was some human interaction was when the older waitress saw my wife doing candy crush on her smartphone, and engaged in some short but warm conversation and told my wife what level she was on for that game. Yes, the broth is blah...tastes the same...nothing special, but quantity wise---this place hits it on the spot. As for the luncheon, my sister in law's seafood ramen plate looked like it was a group plate for 3--it was that huge! She liked it..it looked visually ok, human interaction this time was just slightly improved. They really do need to practice on their customer service portion, and improve on their broths' taste...please fix the taste of your soups! read more

Crazy good deals. If you get a combo (under $10) you essentially get a mini plate lunch size portion of food (I got curry katsu), a good sized bowl of ramen, AND 4pc of gyoza!! MADNESS. And if you come between 2-5pm (every day) you've hit happy hour, and they'll give you ANOTHER 4pc of ramen per person!! Ridiculously good deal. Curry katsu was good. Ramen was ok (I'm partial to the places at Shirokiya), and the gyoza were just soso. I'm a fan of coupons... frankly that brings me in to a lot of establishments to give them a try. Well... instead of bringing in a Valpak coupon I got in the mail I thought I'd use the e-coupon through my phone (which I'll add a pic of)... I was told they can't use this and that I had to bring the printed version because the cashier's "boss" said she has to staple it to my receipt. When I asked to complain to the "boss" I was told he wasn't there. I then asked his name and she said she didn't know it!! Wow! I don't know if this is an error on Valpak or Ramen Ya but it's unprofessional to not honor what your advertising. Pros: - large portions - free gyoza's during happy hour (if you like a lot of cabbage) - reasonable prices - new restaurant Cons: - flavor is pretty blah... and coming from me that's pretty bad because I enjoy bland foods - language barrier w/ staff... I had to repeat myself several times that I wanted 2 takeout containers for the leftovers. This cute little place was near our air bnb. What a find!!!! The combo plates were HUGE and you got a lot of selections to choose from. My cousin and I got the combo A: mini ramen, 4 gyoza and mochico chicken. My hubby and cousins got the big bowl ramen. Our family of 14 were split up but all our orders all came out with mistake. Excellent pricing!!! The gyoza was on point. The mochico chicken was a little dry but still good. The ramen was decent but I'm comparing it to my fav ramen place in Houston. We live in the area and frequent this restaurant often. The service is always efficient and straight forward but today the waitress was rude and condescending. She took our order with disdain and when I said "excuse me 3 times" she barely responded the third time. While I cleaned up my child, she handed me the bill as if I was going to leave without paying. I had to tell her I will come up and pay for it when I was done. After paying she came our table and started throwing the dirty dishes around (we didn't even leave the table yet) and making as if my children made a mess (I picked up all the food off the ground and stacked our dishes). I was so upset after I left because I didn't say anything that I actually went back and told her how rude she was and she basically told me "no" and looked away from me. I'm mad at myself for tipping her but I'm not the type of person to not tip. I just won't eat here again and I would recommend takeout for a better experience. read more

Solid, average ramen with local-style plate lunches, but delicious nonetheless. The McDonald's of ramen. Convenient and easy to access location at the Hawaii Kai Towne Center. One of their main draws is their "combo sets." Very reasonable and affordable price gives you a lot of food: a bowl of ramen, an entree, four pieces of gyoza and a drink. I've tried their fried rice, katsu curry and gyoza along with their standard ramen with won ton. Decent food that hits the spot. read more
