    Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen
    Stacy S.

It was a cold and rainy day on Oahu (yes, those days do exist on the island), and I was craving ramen but didn't want to drive to town in the blustery weather. I remember seeing that Noods had opened in Hawaii Kai, so off I went to check it out! I had been to their Kaimuki & Windward Mall locations in the past, and I had thought that their ramen was good, so I already knew what I'd be getting. This location is located in the Safeway shopping center off of Keahole St. near the McDonald's. It's a fairly small restaurant with just 4 tables inside that seat 4 people per table, and additional tables on the outside that overlook the marina. Basically you order and pay at the cashier, take a seat and the employee delivers your food. When finished, you put your dishes, tray & trash in the appropriate plastic bins. I already knew what I wanted, which was the Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen for $17. Since I arrived between 2-5pm, I was able to receive their special, which is free kimchi potstickers. What a deal! It didn't take long for my food to arrive. The ramen was exactly how I remembered it. It was good, but not fabulous. Noodles were chewy in a good way, but broth was a bit too thin for my liking, and it wasn't garlicky enough. Also the kimchi potstickers were tasty but too spicy for my tastebuds. I'm giving them 4 stars since the ramen is above average and I'm happy that there's a decent ramen place in Hawaii Kai now. I will definitely return in the future.

Are you kidding me?! This ramen bar is located inside a little shopping plaza in Hawaii Kai, and the owner is the sweetest! Upon walking in, you'll see seats on the left side and the menu high above the register in the front. I got the spicy curry ramen, my MIL got the spicy tonkatsu ramen, my husband got the regular tonkatsu, and we got snacks of the shrimp, gyoza, and fried rice. WE LOVED ALL OF IT!!! My favorite was definitely the spicy curry ramen and the fried rice. I liked that the curry was spicy and creamy, and that the fried rice had a peppery taste. The gyoza and shrimp were just gyoza and shrimp, nothing that stood out to me, but we LOVED the ramen! All the broths had such a layer of depth in the soup and was so flavorful! The owner was so kind as well, and she was working hard between taking orders and cleaning tables. When you're done eating, take your bowls to the back counter and you can get a refill of your water there too. All in all, we decided we are coming back again when we're in the area and craving ramen.

What a great little place for noods and other sides that is surprisingly decently priced. I wouldn't say it's a huge place to eat at. They had a lot of takeout orders when I was there. The fried rice was very good. Would definitely recommend. Great service

Same great ramen as the other locations. I liked that this was self serve, order at the front and seat yourself. You get to save on the tip! We had the tonkatsu and shio ramen, both delicious.

Noods Ramen Bar's Hawaii Kai location has been open for a few months....I've been to their two other locations in Kaimuki and Windward Mall. Ordered online...menu appears standard for all three locales. Requested Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen for takeaway. You can select an option to have all accoutrements - char siu, ajitama, etc. - separate from the noodles...and that is what I chose. I don't recall ordering the Black Garlic Tonkotsu before and it lived up to expectations. Noods ( do they make their own? ) were al dente...broth was piping hot in it's separate container. Flavorful without being too salty or oily. Prices are reasonable. Hours are 1100a till 900p daily. Plenty of parking in the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center. Noods is situated on the makai side.

Noods in the Neighborhood? Yes, Please! It is always exciting when a new spot opens up and brings another local option for good eats. Noods in Hawaii Kai is a welcomed addition to the area, especially since there was no ramen place nearby until now. Located near Longs/CVS, next to the former Ba-Le, parking is easy and plentiful. You order and pay at the counter, then choose to dine inside or head out back to enjoy the peaceful view from the outdoor seating. Staff brings your food to the table, but guests are expected to bus their own trays and bowls back to the counter. Easy enough. They currently offer a special from 2 PM to 5 PM, where you get a free order of kimchee gyoza with order of ramen. They were divine, crispy, with a flavorful punch. Chili crisp dipping sauce was the perfect touch. The Black Garlic Tonkotsu broth is my go-to, but today I tried the Creamy Garlic Shoyu with Dumplings, and it was delicious. Rich, savory, and exactly what I needed on a rainy day.

Noods, slang for noodles, opened in Kaimuki in April 2020, after it began as a pop-up out of his McCully restaurant/bar called Osoyami Bar & Grill but wanted to give Noods its own permanent space. Noods offered comfort-style and innovative ramen creations with sides. After opening its 2nd location in Windward Mall in Nov. 2022, it expanded to HI Kai Shopping Center in Feb. 2025. This review is for the HI Kai location. The HI Kai location has a condensed menu version of the flagship Kaimuki restaurant. It offers flavors for everyone: * Ramen: shio, shoyu, miso, black garlic, tonkotsu, dumpling soup, shoyu curry katsu, Thai curry, garlic shoyu, tan tan, kim chi, shoyu shitake, tori paitan, truffle shoyu. The ramen bowls are Hakata-style noodles made from Sun Noodles. Its best seller is black garlic tonkotsu. * Vegetarian: shio, shoyu, miso, Thai curry, tan tan. * Sides: gyoza, potstickers, fried rice, chicken katsu, tempura, quail ajitama, takoyaki, hiyayako, edamame, * Drinks: lemonade, canned soda, tea, calpico, bottled water. * Specials: black garlic shoyu ramen from July to Sept. 2025, free kimchi potstickers with purchase of ramen from 2p to 5p. We ordered the black garlic shoyu ramen, shoyu ramen, and char siu fried rice. Both bowls of ramen were presented well and were flavorful with the chewy noodles; however, I was disappointed that they were not served temperature hot. The fried rice could have been more flavorful. While viewing the menus of the Kaimuki and HI Kai locations online, I noticed that the Kaimuki location offered discounted prices on its lunch combo, weekly specials, and happy hour specials; whereas the HI Kai location only offers free kimchi potstickers with a ramen purchase from 2p to 5p. So, if you're looking for discounted specials, the Kaimuki location may be for you. The casual dine-in is a little bit different from the Kaimuki location. You order, pay, and pick up your order at the front counter and then sit at any available table. There is self-serve iced water at a counter on the left side. Once done, you bus your own table and separate your trash next to the iced water. The lone staff worker was very friendly and provided efficient service. There was also a lone cook working in the kitchen. We sat in the indoor air-conditioned dining area which had counters and multi-colored metal chairs. You could also sit outside in the back under a covered umbrella with a beautiful view of the Marina waterfront. There is also covered outdoor seating in the front. The dine-in areas were clean. Hours of operation are daily from 11a to 9p. Located next to Bale Sandwich Shop, free parking is available in this large shopping complex anchored by Safeway and CVS Longs Drugs. Noods is a great addition to the HI Kai community, especially for those of us who love ramen, and hope that their restaurant will be a successful venture for local restaurateur Blaine Nishizawa. Support local!

I love ramen and this place is great. I've been to other Noods locations and they're always on point. At this location, you order and pay at the front with the cashier. When the food is ready they'll call you to pick up your food. It's self serve. When you're done, they have a location for you to return your bowl and cups. We got the Black Garlic Tonkotsu (pork bone broth, green onion, chashu, ajitama, menma, garlic chips, nori, sesame, black garlic oil) $17 and Tori Paitan (chicken broth, green onion, chicken chashu, ajitama, menma, nori, sesame, negi oil) $16. We also got an order of the Ginger Scallion Gyoza $7. The great thing about Noods is that all of their gyoza is made with beef instead of pork. The Black Garlic Tonkotsu was excellent. The Sun noodles were cooked perfectly. The chashu had the right amount of fattiness to it and it was tender. I loved the seasoned ajitama. Too bad they only give you half an egg instead of the whole egg. The Ginger Scallion Gyoza was good. I always mix my soy sauce and vinegar for dipping. Even though the gyoza was already seasoned, the dipping sauce just kicked it up a notch. The cashier was friendly. They do a lot of takeout. They have about five tables to dine in at the front. They also have a backdoor to more seating on the outside.

Finally tried Noods which opened in the old Tokyo Noodle location. We ordered tan tan ramen, sides of takoyaki and ginger onion gyoza. In door seating is limited to 4 tables and a few counter stools. They do have outdoor seats in the back and front for those nice hawaiian days. Service at the counter was quick and friendly. They have self service water and orders are brought to your table. The tan tan was very favorable and good toppings of seaweed, agitame egg, ground pork and bamboo shoots. The takoyaki was hot and crunchy. My fav was the gyoza which was covered with a ginger onion sauce. That really put a nice touch to this side. Prices of ramen range from $15 to $17 and sides around $7.

We tried the tan tan, spicy tonkotsu, and Thai curry ramen and we liked our choices. The boiled egg is prepared just like in Japan, so it's very flavorful. The prices are reasonable too and I was offered a frequent customer card. After you buy 9 ramen, you get the 10th free. We'll definitely be returning customers. Great addition to Hawaii Kai.

I'm not much of a ramen guy, but my friend sure digs her noodles. Noods Ramen Bar was the place of choice after pickin' up some crispy shoyu wings from Vons Chicken. I remembered this location used to be a "Bobo Bao" restaurant, but I guess that business folded up, and Noods took over the space in Hawaii Kai. Upon walking into the restaurant we were greeted by a friendly lady (I think she was the owner). After looking over the menu, my friend proceeded to order a Yuzu Shio Ramen, and I just got some Garlic Fried Rice as I thought the garlic fried rice would go perfect with some wings. A nice clean restaurant with minimum seating inside, but the restaurant also had covered outdoor seating in the front of the restaurant, as well as in the back of the restaurant. After placing our food order, we elected to sit outside behind the restaurant. What can I say about the grub? My garlic fried rice was garlicky good, and it complimented the crispy shoyu wings I bought from Vons. As for my friend who got the Yuzu Shio Ramen, she said it was deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious! Reasonable prices for their grub, and outstanding professional service which makes it an easy 5 star dining experience on Yelp! Wanna get some noodles? Check out Noods Ramen Bar in Hawaii Kai!

Happy National Noodle Month... With that I decided to use my noodle and visit the newest Noods location in Hawaii Kai Shopping Center the one with Safeway but is located right next to McDonald's. This more informal location is like a more private food court setting as you order at the counter and are given a buzzer (for both dine in and take out) and you return to the counter to pick up your order which I did and didn't mind at all though there's just a few tables and some counter seating available along with a couple tables outside as well. Though strange enough this noodle nut had the Dumpling Soup and what's great is that it comes with 10 boiled gyoza along with the broth of your choice which I chose "Truffle Tonkotsu" and it was a nice and light broth with a touch of truffle but wished it had more yummy truffle powder, it's also topped with choy sum making this more simplistic dish a great alternative when you're just craving some soup. The staff are very friendly and helpful to guide you to their system and with self service water and used dishes drop off station when you're done makes this a great spot to get your noods and enjoy it too. Thank you!

Love going to Noods in Kaimuki when they opened during COVID so was excited to see a location open closer to home in Hawaii Kai. Right off the bat it's a little different in the sense that you order first before sitting down and you're given a buzzer to let you know when the foods ready and water is self service as well. Staff were friendly and we wen't early so lots of places to sit inside. Menu is pretty much the same (doesnt have the tsukemen ramen though which is usually my go-to at the Kaimuki location) and we ordered the Black Garlic Tonkatsu, Ginger Scallion Gyoza, Garlic Chili Gyoza, and the Charshu Garlic Fried Rice. Overall the gyozas were my favorite because they had nice flavor but I felt the ramen to be lacking and the noodles were a little soggy. Not sure if I'll be back to this location...might just drive a couple more minutes to the Kaimuki location instead.
