    Big sushi rolls
    J J.

Taste different. Not as flavorful. Prices went up and portions got smaller. Sad but reality for most places. $5 for one hand roll now.

Crunch don, dynamite maki, and shrimp tempura nigiri all freshly made nice and warm.

My favorite is the crunch don, dynamite maki, and shrimp tempura maki. I gotta say it's the best I've tried and I'll keep coming back for a quick sushi fix. Service is very good. Ambiance is what you'd expect for a small sushi shop.

    Spicy Salmon Maki

I had the Spicy Salmon Maki. Service was great and fast. However, the salmon did not taste super fresh. I paid $19, which is a bit expensive for what it is.

Awesome food and experience. I had the chirashi bowl, matcha drink, miso soup, kaarage, and kimchee. The fish was good quality and I liked the proportion of food to rice . I also tried their banana matcha drink, and I'm ngl I don't really care for matcha but I would 100% go back just to get that. They definitely made that with love. The chicken kaarage was crispy, but warm and juicy on the inside. Delicious. Plus, the food came out quickly and the owners and employees were very friendly and welcoming! Had a smile on my face the whole time I was there. Inviting aura for sure. We will definitely be coming back

Just hiked the Koko Crater and we were craving some sushi. This came up in a search, so we dined in, ordering couple of their rolls and a Katsu bento box. They were made to order and tasted pretty decent. The rolls were a bit on the larger size (per bite), as the there was more rice than should've been.

    Dynamite Maki(8 Pcs)
    Missy U.

Good quick sushi fix! They have lots of different options for rolls. I got the dynamite which is 8 pieces but definitely filled me up. The dynamite maki comes with shrimp tempura and cucumber inside with spicy ahi, spicy mayo, and unagi sauce on top. Everything is better with some unagi sauce!! The spicy ahi is cut in small pieces which makes it easier to eat as well as mixes well with the spicy mayo sauce. I wish the shrimp was bigger, but the tempura was soooo crispy adding a great crunch to the roll. Although i wish there was more shrimp I would order this roll again.

    Spicy Ahi Don

I have been coming to Sushiman for longer than I'd like to admit because it would age me, haha! My friends worked here in high school when we were growing up and it was our go-to on the way to, or home from Sandys. I always get the spicy Ahi don (bowl) and its so so good. Fresh spicy ahi, pickled daikon, edamame, cucumber, ginger, and tobiko. Second go-to is the dynamite maki which is a roll that comes with shrimp tempura and cucumber topped with spicy Ahi. It is super good. Definitely recommend Sushiman the next time you are headed out for a beach day or headed home from a long beach day. It really hits the spot!

    So many to choose from

Nice place when you're craving some sushi after visiting Hanauma Bay Plenty of selection. A bit hard to find since the map pointed us to a hardware store. Get your sushi and eat along the waterfront behind the plaza!

2 crunch dons, 1 mild, 1 regular. Both delicious. Also my matcha latte!

This was my first time at SushiMan and I'm so glad I came and picked up lunch from here. Friendly local family business and I was greeted by Alexa who also gave me recommendations to try! She told me about the Crunch don which they offer in a spicy and mild version which is great for those who can't handle too much spice! I also got a matcha latte with whole milk. The crunch dons had a bed of rice, spicy ahi w/sauce, and topped with crunchy fried onions, edamame, and green onions I believe. The textures made for a satisfying meal and the fish to rice ratio was great. I also thought the portion was big, I was full eating half of it so I was able to save the other half for a second meal! I felt that I got a good amount for what I paid. As for the matcha latte, I can be picky with places especially because lots of places that sell matcha lattes just taste like milk or are clumpy, etc. But I really enjoyed theirs! Plus they have a cream top that makes the drink even better. Overall, if you're a matcha girly and sushi lover, this is your 2 in 1 stop! Definitely coming again!

Bento B fir $11.99. The rice was stale, unflavored (not sushi rice) and the fish tasted like it was frozen.

Such a lovely experience!…read more My friend and I arrived at 6 pm on Saturday, with no reservation, but there were no other customers at the moment so it was all good. However, I noticed everyone else that arrived after us - 3 different groups, all had reservations, because it is in fact a very a small establishment, so I think in the future we would get a reservation! The servers/owners(?) were so nice, food came out relatively quickly, and it was so fresh and delicious, everything cooked to perfection! I ordered the cold soba (though this was kind of silly of me because I was already cold) and tempura plus salmon nigiri. Quite pricey (about $50 after tip) for a meal for one but I'm glad I tried it. My friend ordered the seared mackerel and honestly I was so shocked how delicious it was, just melts in your mouth! I would definitely go back :)

A Cozy Spot for Japanese Brunch Cravings…read more We were craving a Japanese breakfast, and Koko Inaba was a great find. Tucked away in Koko Marina, it is a small, quaint space with a counter where you can watch the chef work and several tables for seating. Soba, udon, sashimi, tempura -- you pick what you are craving. I ordered the udon with assorted tempura, and everything was done well. The tempura had the perfect fry and crunch, and the udon had a satisfying bite to it. A quiet, welcoming spot for a comforting Japanese meal in East O'ahu.

Metered street parking or they have a paid private parking lot. As it was Sunday, we found a parking on Koko Head Avenue and walked there. We were seated right away at 2:30pm and they close at 3:30pm. Then dinner is at 5:00pm. Service was fast and friendly. We ordered right away. Food came out shortly after. It looked good and it tasted good too. The purple potato salad with the 2 sweet potato chips was different and really good! After lunch, we decided to order 2 Kirin beers and a bottle of Iichiko with green tea. We drank 1/3 of the bottle and decided to save the rest for the next time. We will be back again. The peppers might not be everyone's cup of tea but it was certainly unique and interesting. The ochazuke was a favorite! Service was great and ambiance was cozy. Pretty busy on a Friday night. Although I miss their honey toast, I still love their new menu!

Via OpenTable, we made reservations for Saturday evening, September 9, at 9:00 PM. Easy peasy. Booking reservations via the online restaurant reservation service was super convenient. After easily finding parking in the lot, we walked through a finely landscaped front yard and, upon entry through the front door, were welcomed by a serene koi pond at the bottom of the stairs that led us up to the main dining room. The comfortable open kitchen dining room provided panoramic views of Maunalua Bay and Diamond Head. We were seated at a white linen clothed table nearby the bar at the top of the staircase. Roy's offers a culinary journey in fine dining with a menu focused on fresh seafood and some steakhouse dishes, blending Hawaiian and Asian flavours in contemporary style of cooking. Below is what we had for dinner: In lieu of a complimentary basket of bread and butter to kick off our meal, we were served a nice bowl of spicy edamame, which I found to be a fitting prelude to the eclectic blend of Hawaiian, Japanese, and Classic French cuisine that we were about to enjoy. Tempura Shimeji Mushroom ($17) - For a starter from the Vegetarian Menu, we shared this delicious appetizer of golden crispy fried mushrooms that were drizzled with spicy aioli. YUM! Mongolian Style Vegetable Stir-Fry with Crispy Tofu ($20) - Also from the Vegetarian Menu, for his main dish, DJ had this plate of fried cubes of tofu mixed with a small medley of veggies. The mixed vegetables were mostly onion slivers, a few slices of green bell pepper and zucchini, shoestring carrots and very little bean sprouts, topped with a small handful of micro greens and a nicely uniformed mound of white rice. Misoyaki Butterfish ($56) - I ordered this signature, world renowned dish for my entrée - a tender and rich fish dish, marinated in miso and served over forbidden black rice and a sweet ginger wasabi butter sauce. The silky, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth black cod was sophisticated and oh, so ono! Roy's Signature Chocolate Soufflé ($14) - We were served this decadent dessert on the house. This chocolate SWEET TREAT was rich in flavour and airy in texture. Service was exceptional. Right from our arrival, we were greeted with warmth and friendly hospitality. As the night went on, it was becoming apparent that I was not feeling well. Our waiter was so caring that he even brought out a few different bottles of fever reducers to offer medication to me. He was very sweet. An unforgettable dining experience we enjoyed at Roy's Hawaii Kai. The restaurant was a perfect setting for an onolicious meal with stunning views and exceptional service.
