Some of the best grilled chicken legs I have ever had. Falling off the bone, juicy, perfectly seasoned. I got the Rodizio, traditionally served in all you can eat fashion. I ate a LOT. The sides that is came with were plentiful and the salad was good. Wine was a little pricey but it was good as well. I would definitely come back, particularly with a group of friends. I came here looking for some good food, a nice atmosphere, and a place to watch the game. This place had all of the above, as well as great service and a friendly wait staff. I had a huge cuban sandwich and fries for just $12, for a sit-down restaurant, it's pretty fairly priced. The only thing I would say isn't fairly priced is the beer, but I wasn't going to eat a cuban sandwich and watch the game without drinking a beer. ( I had a stella for $6) Overall I would definitely come back to try some of the other things on the menu, or if I just wanted to enjoy a beer in a nice looking bar during the game. read more

It was my girlfriends birthday and we wanted to go to a churrascaria, normally I would go to Rainahs on northern blvd queens but she wanted to try something new and we landed here. So we ordered the "Rodizio". We waited for about 15 minutes and they brought us the salad first, not a problem. Until we finished the first corse and waited for about another 45 minutes wondering where our food was. 30 minutes into waiting I noticed that there was some meats being kept warm on some kind of commercial rotisserie grill. So I think to myself, if that's that meat that we're getting for the Rodizio then we're waiting 45 minutes for rice beans and mashed potatoes? This should been a red flag for me to get up and leave but I wasn't exactly sure but. Yes I was right. Soon after they brought us the sides we were brought the first selection of meats, a chicken leg. Though it had no flavor it was probably the freshest of all the meats were brought. Next was the chorizo, the meat was so dry that it would break apart like dry bread. Good luck eating that. Then the steak. Dried and had no flavor. Lastly I had the lamb, dried as well and the flavor almost made my girlfriend throw up. She could not swallow the meat. So there is when I threw in the towel and tried to get out of there as fast as I can. On my plate you can see every single piece of meat that I was served and none was eaten. Some servers would prob ask how everything was or if there is a problem but no. Our servers barley spoke English so communication was tough. I'd rather lose $100 than to give it away to a restaurant that will serve you reheated food. The fact that they will not even respond to any reviews shows that they had no type of customer services that is even a tiny bit interested in your satisfaction. They were rude and not flexible with an accommodation. Was told that we can take a table and but had to be out at 3pm. How bizarre is it that you're re given a time limit to eat and if your not done with your food then what? We get up with our plates and walk out? We asked if there's any other tables that can be used and we're told the same excuse that we needed to be out by 3pm when it was already 1:30. Went there for dinner tonight for the first time. Place was empty. Asked to sit at a booth, and was told we couldn't sit at a booth, and must sit at one of the center aisle high tables. I have back problems, and would be painful and uncomfortable to do so, and again requested a booth or a table. The two hostesses replied, it is not policy to sit parties of two in booths or tables. I can understand if the restaurant is crowded or busy, but the place was EMPTY. And was at 5:00. If your trying to build a reputation, and become a hotspot, that's not the way to do it, and turn away customers. I've lived in Greenpoint for 45 years, and this place is just a joke. They've been only open for a few months! So we turned to them and said "No thanks, we're going to the Amber Steakhouse". And you know what? We were treated like kings, the food was great as always, and had a good time. Went here on opening night and was really impressed! My boyfriend and I both ordered the house specialty (maybe it was called the mini radizio?). It is basically a huge plate of a variety of meats served with rice, beans, and sautéed kale. The meat was cooked to perfection and really tasty. The kale was actually great also. New Years Eve is a particularly special night for my loved one and I. Not only is it an international holiday but it is our anniversary. We wanted to do something special. Boy did we chose the wrong place.... At first everything was completely lovely. We were seated at a nice romantic table in the back, with live jazzy rock music, not too loud, not too soft and ambient light perfect enough to lull anybody into a drunken stuper (however not to read small menu print by candle light). The setting of Raizes is gorgeous with dark wood and trendy modern lightening but like disease ridden whores, sometimes horrible things come in bright, beautiful packages. Throughout the course of the evening we were served by four different waiters, all more inept than the next-including the owner of the restaurant herself. She would have actually been a wonderful server had she not gone completely apeshit when we refused to leave a tip at the end of our dining experience. Here's a quick list of the reasons why; we didn't know who we were tipping (we had three different waiters [if you don't include the owner] and they were all terrible), we asked two of the waiters for cappuccino one of them outright said no because they were" too busy" even though it was on the menu and the tables were not filled- the other simply ignored the request, we had to ask for our other drinks (soda) twice, we never received a full round of rodizio, we had to ask for the desert menu, for the bill, for our food to be wrapped to go and were generally ignored / had to flag down waiters throughout the night.... Even though the owner herself tried to check in on us, she even moved our table because the first one was unsteady. She wasn't enough to pick up the slack of a disorganized restaurant. As we left she asked us why we didn't leave a tip and said she was disgusted. She said she'd pray for us... I'll pray for anyone who goes to eat there. The meat was over cooked and the service was beyond awful... I'm not the type of person who is hard to please. I'm a patient, easy-going woman. But if you want good service and a decent meal with a loved one, avoid Raizes... you're better off at McDonalds. read more

Probably the most expensive lunch I've ever had for 3, but well worth every penny. My first time here and I was already in love as soon as I stepped inside. The sun was shining through the very large and clean windows and gave this place the prettiest ambiance. I need to mention that there was no handicap ramp, but I'm learning that most places in this part of town have roll aways. Benny was our waiter and was extremely friendly as was the entire staff. I loved that you didn't have to sit at the bar to enjoy the happy hour drinks. The menu was endless and I was a bit concerned that the quality of the food would get lost. I was wrong. So very wrong. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection. Crispy calamari, seasoned roasted oysters and a very generous portion of ceviche. That was just to start. I'm full already, but we have to try the bachalau augratin. A bit oily for me, but also delicious. The roasted fish platter was fresh and seasoned very well. The fajitas had all the flavors you would expect and more. The large variety of desserts was a sure sign that no matter how full you are, you'll make room for their bananas foster pudding or coconut flan or strawberries and creme. I will come back at the same time because it felt like I had this jewel all to myself. Thank you Benny for a great experience. Wanted to try something new around the area so a group of us checked in here. I order half a chicken with rice and beans. The chicken was a disappointment. It was dry. The chicken breast was dry and hard to chew on. What's even more disappointing is that the dark meat portion was also dry. The rice and beans was bland too. Our friend ordered baby back ribs and he say those were okay. Another friend order the chicken fajita and the chicken was dry also. Overall, not too happy with our meals. It was pretty empty for a Saturday night. This spot is right off McGuiness Blvd. Lots of car traffic passing by and there is a funeral place right across from the establishment. Like somebody else said I tried really hard to like this place. I also tried to give to them that it is New Year's Eve and therefore crowded. The owner was (initially) a sweetheart and really made up for the fact that when we came in (at the start of the 2nd pre-fixe dinner hour when they were just beginning to get people in) it was really difficult to get service. We waited a very long time just to get to where we could order and it felt like the place was very disorganized given that it was not particularly crowded at the time. We were helped by two or three different waiters and still had to ask repeatedly to get our drinks. And, when my wife tried to order coffee at the start of the night she was rudely told that they were really busy and couldn't make any for her. It's coffee. We didn't ask for anything complicated drink-wise, not even mixed liquors. So that was an uncomfortable start to things because it felt like if they were stressed then how could they possibly handle when all the tables get full up? By the time we left it was much more crowded, so that is a fair point for what happened at the end, but really throughout it didn't feel particularly crowded for a big place. The food was good, although the meat from the rodizio tasted overcooked. There was live music and the atmosphere was very nice. We really wanted to enjoy and like the place and we were actually pretty turned around from our initial impressions by the owner who really we felt was trying very hard to make sure we got service at particularly busy points. It all sort of fell apart though again after the first round from the rodizio. Because, after the first round, there was no other round. They served through the offered meat dishes and then that was it. We waited awhile to see if any more skewers were coming around and eventually flagged down the owner to give up on the main and get desert because it really didn't seem like anymore would come. She brought the desert menu and then that was it until we eventually gave up and just flagged the owner down to ask for the bill. Because, again, no waiter ever showed back up to ask what we wanted from the desert menu. I tried to explain this to the owner and to quietly offer some feedback as to why we were unhappy and I was met with, "well it's New Years, you can't expect instant service." And again, I grant that. But we really had no service at that point. It wasn't until the bill that we actually saw waiters coming up. We were there two hours so it isn't like we're talking about a span of five minutes. At that point I was truly unhappy with the night because the one thing that really made up for it was the owner, who was an absolute sweetheart. I wanted very much to just quietly talk to her and at least get an apology or something. The last thing I expected was the same kind of dismissal from the waiter when I asked for coffee. The whole thing felt tremendously uncomfortable and so I declined to leave a gratuity, which is pretty much the only negative feedback one can give when nobody will listen to you. We were outside waiting for a taxi and the owner came out and got into a fight with me over the tip. An actual fight. She insulted me repeatedly, was incredibly rude, and implied that I should consider it my responsibility to tip them. And then she said, "well I'll just give them a tip myself then." That's called paying them. It's your obligation. It isn't mine as a diner. She kept talking about how they bent over backwards to accommodate us and serve us and take care of us and she kept talking about how she was disgusted by us and would pray for us. I guess when they were bending over backwards they somehow forgot the three or so times I requested coffee for my wife. Or how the meat server just disappeared. Or how nobody ever came to ask what we wanted for desert. Okay, so it's New Years. And I would have tipped regardless of everything else as a thank you for trying. But that doesn't excuse completely dismissing my comments or coming out into the street to verbally attack me and my wife. If they were disgusted I was more so. read more

After reading some of the negative reviews, I was hesitant to eat here, but ended up going with some Greenpoint friends and was pleasantly surprised. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. The wine is good, very drinkable (I think we had the malbec). I ordered the grilled whole fish of the day, which was branzino at the time, and it was fresh, well seasoned and cooked perfectly. 25 bucks for a whole grilled fish with 2 sides is a pretty good deal nowadays in NYC. My friends got some of the meat dishes and were pleased with them. Nice decor. Sports-bar vibe near the entrance, but a more mellow, quieter restaurant in the back. It was only about 40% full when we were there, so I can't speak to noise levels at full capacity, but that night it was peaceful. Overall I really can't find anything to complain about ;-) Based on the warm reception from several staff people, including someone who seemed like the owner and / or manager, I got the sense they're trying really hard. read more

Amazing food , but just a warning! If you are vegan , the food that says its vegan on the menu, is actually vegetarian .. the califlower is made with egg and the vegetable and rice bowl is made with butter ... Personally, I'm not vegan or vegetarian , but a friend of mine is vegan and she orderes a few things which ended up not actually being vegan (even though the menu stated it was). The server was great and took the dish off the check and the chef made a new vegetable and rice dish without butter. For me personally, all of the food was always amazing. I live a 3 blocks away and the anticipation of this place to open up was killing me-- I was excited for a Portuguese restaurant to finally open up in Greenpoint. The first time I went to eat here was with my parents the first week of Jan. 2014. I was hooked. The oysters where amazing and the skirt steak was to die for! I also stole a couple mussels from my father which was also unbelievably amazing. The décor inside was nothing like I have seen in this area. I went back a couple weeks after for since I only had 3 things off the menu and my mission was to try everything. This time around I had the Clams ( not a fan of clams at all-- but I am always willing to try new things at least once-- I did not regret it) and I had the Seafood combo which was delicious. My list of visits can go on and on-- I was never disappointed with the food and the services was amazing. I wasn't rushed but at the same time the waiters/ waitresses where very attentive. I didn't go back for a while-- I had a "bad taste in mouth" as some would say when I heard about a family friend trying to plan a party at the restaurant. I normally don't pay any mind to what others say but since this person was very close to me I believed what they told me. I was informed that the owner Lucia was very distant and lacked information-- when in reality it was the other way around. I know that customers can be very needy and want everything to go there way but I know from my waitressing experience that it cant always be that way and the owners will always try and work with your ideas but it's to a limit. Needless to say I am very glad I didn't pay any mind to the information I heard because a week later I grown up and went on to plan a baby shower. Lucia is an AMAZING person!!!! Not only did I speak with her for close then 2 hours she put my mind to ease that the shower will go as smoothly as possible. Not only did she deliver the best food possible she made the experience for all 25 guest incredible. We had the entire back area to ourselves-- Some guests didn't attend and she had the staff work with rearranging the tables so that we can be closer together. The food came out in unison and not on person complained ( I think the only negative thing one person said was can someone make more room in my stomach so I can eat more.) I wouldn't count that as a negative comment. Overall any time I go to eat at this restaurant I am never disappointed. The food is amazing and the staff is delightful. I recommend this restaurant to everyone-- I took a whole bunch of menus and I also have 2 in my bag. Raizes could do so much better than 2 stars. I would like to give them a higher score. The wait staff is great. Our server was very attentive and friendly. I have gone their for drinks and the bar tender was really fun and welcoming. Unfortunately, I have to give Raizes a 2 because they market themselves as a Portugese Churasscaria. I expect a place whose thing is meat to have good meat. It wasn't good. My girlfriend and I ordered the Fish Tacos, Pork Sliders, Mini Rodizio and the Yucca Fries. The best part about the Mini Rodizio was the sauteed Kale. The sausage was overcooked and hard, the chicken wing was bland, and the steak tasted odd (freezer burn?). The steak was the only meat in the Mini Rodizio that didn't taste like it was overcooked. The Yucca fries were also hard and dry. Of all the things we ordered the Pork Sliders were the best. They were tasty. My girlfriend, who is normally a fiend for fish tacos, only ate 1/2 a taco of the three that come with the plate. Raizes has a lot of potential. Maybe we caught them on a bad night. I like the location and ambience. My only hope is that they stay in business and figure out a way to improve their food. If Raizes were just a bar I would give them a 4 star rating and I would go there for happy hour any time. read more

From the intimate yet refined interior design thru their impressive bar and dinner food menu to their craft beer and unique drink offering custom made by manager Steve this place has impressed us immensely. While it is obvious that interior decor was given appropriate consideration, I wish the same could be said about the food and the service. GF and I were happy to try discover something new and different in close proximity however walked out feeling we wasted time and money. The short of it, food took forever to arrive ( no fault of waitress who kept apologizing profusely ) and when it finally did, what we got was a very dry red snapper which was supposed to be grilled along with some unidentified uncooked piece of meat ( ordered a skirt steak ) which I wouldn't even bring home to my dog. To make matters worse, had to listen to owner praise her skills ( this is her 8th restaurant incredibly ) and compassion - she didn't charge us for a returned cocktail which was nothing more than fruit juice. I did not eat much there my intention was to get some grilled octopus for take out . I did have some croquettes while I was waiting for the take out and they were correct. So I was pretty much sure that octopus will be fine. What a disappointment when I came home and opened up the take out container. Octopus was greasy and soggy and definitely not grilled but deep fried. There was not a smoky char or grill marks on it. Just soft and greasy textured flesh. I called them and tried to find out what's went wrong. But they denied my comments and kept saying it was grilled and did want to talk about fix the mistake. I did spend 15 years in restaurant business and I know what is grilled and what is fried. Stuff over there is cutting corners so when you will eat there or order take out make sure to inspect your order when it arrived to avoid to be cheated. I understand that mistake is a part of operation but if you are professional you are trying to fix it if you are not doing this you disrespectfully treating your customers. Beware of food poisoning!!!!!!! I went there the first time in the summer. The service was decent at the time (we were being served by one of the head managers working) but the food was absolutely disappointing. I ordered the fish tacos and they came out extremely soggy because they were thrown on the plate and I couldn't even pick them up because they were so wet they were falling apart. My boyfriend order the quesadilla. Same thing- came out really soggy. We did not finish the meal but remained kind since I knew they were trying. I work in service too so I know how people can be. After some time, thinking maybe they have improved their menu or cooking, we return since it's extremely close to our house, the only thing open, and I was starving. The guy who started seating us and wrote down our order was nice, but weren't even sure if he was actually our server or not since we had three different people at our table throughout the course of the meal. After some time sitting down/ ordering we noticed that one of the workers there was sick. His nose was extremely red and he was coughing. He was also doing this while polishing the silverware for the entire restaurant. BIG MISTAKE!! I didn't want them to screw up my food or be rude and ask for another pair because they would most likely just give me more of the contaminated silverware. I was just going to try eating with my hands. Again, I ordered the fish tacos ( I'm a pescetarian so there is not a ton I can choose from there) hoping they would be better. I told them I didn't want cilantro on the tacos and he looked confused and told me I should order something completely different. So I repeated myself and said that I wanted the tacos. I added some other items to them as well, he repeated the order back to me so I assumed it would come out correctly. It didn't. They didn't add my extras and I also asked for some items after I received them only got half. I even heard the server ask the other guy for the items. He dropped off one but then completely walked away. ??? The taco presentation wasn't too bad. They come with metal separators now so the juice from the grill may run off of them. They did taste extremely fishing though, a strange perishing fishy, and the fish looked discolored. I noticed this after a few bites. The fish was NOT fresh!!! And also forgetting to not use my silverware, I accidentally used it. Big mistake. I didn't finish the meal. We asked for the check and it got dropped off, but then not picked up at edge of the table for what felt like 20 minutes. The two other men walked by, looked at it, and kept walking. We also sat there forever without waters extremely thirsty and no one refilled us. All of this time too they were NOT even BUSY!!! Finally the server came back and ran it. So after this crappy retry I got EXTREMELY sick!! This is very embarrassing but I don't think I have spent so much time in the bathroom, not to mention bleeding in the bathroom out of my bum. I got a fever as well! So all in all, stay away because of people's carelessness to not send their noticeably sick staff home and also lack in customer service/ food prep that causes food poisoning.
