Absolutely loved this Portuguese restaurant, the food was perfection! It's a great spot for large groups. We came with 10 adults and 8 kids and were all able to sit together comfortably. We ordered the Mini Rodizio, which is $26 for five different cuts of meat from the churrasco, served with rice, beans, and kale, you really can't beat that deal, and everything was so good! We also tried their sangria and wow!! Delicious! I honestly can't stop raving about this place. Just a heads-up: the food did take about an hour to come out, so if you're in a rush, this might not be the best spot for you. We were hesitant to eat here after reading some mixed reviews, but I'm so glad we decided to give it a try. I started with the grilled octopus, which was absolutely phenomenal, and followed with the churrasco skirt steak that was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. My favorite drinks currently is the new "Summer Fun" drink with vodka, strawberry and basil. And my classic favorite is their Rosé Sangria, which is a perfect refreshing drink that hasnt failed me yet! Jana, the bartender/waitress has been my waitress since day 1 and I have to say her positive energy and attention to catering to your dietary needs and suggestions is amazing! I cant have dairy so she made sure she could provide other options to make sure I still had an awesome experience! I hate when people say "I would give no stars if I could" but in reality this food was absolutely disgusting. Started out with the yuca fries which we're amazing. Salad came out first and the dressing was good. My party ordered the all you can eat, Rodizio Portuguese Style and all the meat tasted old and when it came out it smelled disgusting. Nothing was good once the meat started coming out. They say how disgusted we were so we asked for the check and they started hassling me when I wanted to pay and leave. Informed the waiter who happens to be the manager according to him. Asked him to stop cooking the meat as no one is enjoying it. Zero customer service he did not even ask what was wrong I informed him that the meat had a smell and taste like it was old/frozen meat. The ambiance of this place is gorgeous! I love it. This review is for "All You Can Eat" Rodizio which it was $28 per person. We went last June for my father's birthday and he wanted Rodizio style near Staten Island where we live. He did not want to travel to New Jersey or Queens. I enjoyed their Portuguese pineapple soda, the bartender offered me a shot of vodka and I accepted his offer. The drink was so good. It was 4 of us. Only 3 opted for Rodizio style and my aunt wanted to eat seafood. We started off with warm bread and salads. Then each of us got a own plate of ride and beans, sautéed kale and fries. They offered mashed potato. We took the fries instead. They started to come around with meats, it was slow but they came around each time with different meats. It's almost like they did not want to serve us. Meats: Chicken leg, some sort of pork, two different kinds of beef, lamb, pork loin with bacon, turkey loin and chorizo. Let me tell you, all the meats we got, they were over cooked. I was disappointed. My whole family was disappointed. We love meats and we previously experienced Rodizio in different locations, the experiences were great. After the first round of meats were done, the waitress came back and asked if we were satisfied and want to move on to the desserts. We were like um we want more meats and she was like oh ok. It was such a weird experience. My father was not happy with his birthday dinner. After we finished with the Rodizio style. My aunt ordered crab cakes, shrimp, and broccoli. She did not get to enjoy her dinner also. She said it was missing seasoning, tasted bland and not fresh. We want to get desserts and celebrate birthday for dad. We got coconut flan which it was really good, apple pie and one more I can't remember at the moment. If you are looking for a Portuguese restaurant in BK, be sure to check this one out. Seriously, it's the only restaurant that pops up if you search for Portuguese food in Brooklyn. It just happens to be pretty good too (thankfully). We came in on a Monday night at around 8:15pm without a reservation and were seated immediately. Lucky for us, the place actually didn't fill up until about an hour after we got there (dinners past 9pm on a Monday, people? Hats off to you for staying out past my usual bedtime). HH specials were available past 8 on a Monday which I thought was pretty good as well - $5 house wine and well drinks, $6 draft beers, and some other cocktail specials. For my first time trying Portuguese fare, we decided to get all the grilled meats. We split the Mini Rodizio.....a little bit of all the meats like bacon-wrapped turkey, steak, chicken, and sausage served up w/ kale and rice & beans. This was really good. All of the different meats and cuts were cooked up nicely and simply seasoned. I also really loved the turkey, and this speaks volumes for me since I really never order that. We also split the 1/2 Chicken w/ Ribs which was good, but not necessarily "Portuguese" - more like sweet, orange-y barbecue. The ambiance is really cool. Unfortunately for the first time I have to give a bad review for bad service, rather than bad food. We ordered brunch here and when our plates came out one person's food was missing. She insisted the 3 others of us eat, and so we did. 10 minutes later, we ask about the meal and the waiter says it's coming. 10 more minutes pass and we are almost finished with our food. We call over the waiter again and he says "the waffle machine isn't working" and just sort of pauses. We look aghast. Then he says "so do you want to order something else?" Um yes? And no apology? There was only one other table seated in the restaurant so it is not like they were too busy to promptly tell us. The husband of the woman who did not get her meal went up to the waiter and asked for some sort of discount given that they told us the machine was broken so late that we had already fully finished by the time her food went out. (And if we hadn't asked would we have just not known?) When they brought out the bill they said the manager said they could give no discount. I had a high hopes for this place, unfortunately it was a big disappointment. Aftet reading some good reviews I decided to give it a try. Hostess showed us to our table, some bikers were passing by and making a lot of noise so she says " fuc%$!ing bikers, they're averywhere" hmm, thanks for that- my 7 year old enjoyed that. After placing out order we waited over 40 minutes, I guess that's why the food was cold when it came out. - we ordered hot antipasto (clams, shrimps, grilled calamari in sauce). The sauce was bitter, shrimps were very dry and hard, calamari chewy. My mom enjoyed the clams. I had mini rodizio- pork chop was so undercooked I could taste the blood. The steak was one of the worst I had- quality of meat was bad, so hard I couldn't cut it with my knife. I bit off a piece and it was not season at all and dry, like it was cooked twice before. I didn't try chorizo because after steak and porkchop I was afraid to. This place is called Churrascaria but they have no idea how to cook good steak. - we also ordered cheese fries- mozzarella cheese melted all over fries. Mozzarella is probably one of the last cheeses you should put on fries. - my son ordered churrasco chicken drums- he took 1 bite and that was it. He said it was dry and sweet. My brother's scallops were over cooked but had good flavor. The whole grilled red snapper was good. My skirt steak was delicious. Perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The fries were under seasoned but with a little salt they were good. I struggled with deciding if I should give 3 or 4 stars to this review. It was good, not amazing but not terrible. What tipped it over to 4 stars was the service. Everyone was great, friendly and accommodating. This review is only for the "All You Can Eat" Rodizio. We went to green point yesterday to hit up our favorite donut shops, Peter Pan and Moe's (check them out!). While we were out and about, I had a hankering for some grilled food and we found Raizes. The review were hit or miss and we decided let's give them a try. We opted for the All You Can Eat Rodizio for $28. The server explained that we would get a salad & bread to start. Then we get a plate of rice, beans, sautéed kale, and either fries/mash potato. We both opted for the fries. The salad was excellent came tossed already in their dressing. The bread was warm served with olives & hummus (I think). I am all about the meat and only ate a small portion of the salad. After about 15 minutes they brought us a plate of rice and fries etc... waited another 10 minutes for the meat. The first thing they drop off was one drumstick, then back with one piece of pork, one piece of beef, one small chunk of lamb, one turkey loin wrapped in bacon and that was it. The lamb and beef was under cook for me and the meat was starting to go bad and we pushed it to the side. The only great thing was the drumstick and the turkey loin. Then our server had the nerve to asked us if we want anything else. IT was supposed to be an all you can eat but its full of disappointment, we spent $70 rodizio for two and a beer. I would have been happier if I stop at a halal truck and get a platter for $6. Our water was not refilled until we asked for the check. I am a food lover and this was a huge disappointment. If you are looking for a good rodizio go somewhere else. I left feeling hungry and in need of something else, good thing we were getting donuts. read more

My boyfriend and I were invited to a friend's 30th birthday dinner here. It was my first time eating at Greenpoint and eating real Portuguese cuisine. The restaurant is located directly across a funeral home ( a bit of an eye sore). If you're not uncomfortable with a funeral home across the street, then the restaurant can be cozy and comfortable. It's very spacious and definitely a good pot to come for food and drinks with family or friends. I like that Raizes Churrascaria has an extensive menu of wine and beverages. I ordered the White Sangria since it was the perfect weather for it, plus I've never had one before. The White Sangria was actually very light, refreshing, and didn't have strong aromas like a red sangria does. There was about 15-18 of us so it was a little difficult to share appetizers. Our friend ordered three appetizers for us all to share: grilled oysters, shrimp mozambique, and cod fish croquettes. I only tried the cod fish croquettes which turned out to be mediocre, nothing too over the top. My boyfriend and I ordered the Pot O'Mussels with Port Wine Lobster Sauce which turned out to be mediocre as well. We've definitely had better mussels at other restaurants before. My boyfriend ordered the Grilled NY Strip Steak with a side of fries. He asked for the steak to be medium well, but it turned out to be medium rare which he wasn't too happy about it since he can't eat meat that's too read, but at least the fries were delicious! I ordered the Broiled Seafood Combo with a side of sauteed kale. The broiled seafood combo included: stuffed clams, sea scallops, filet and shrimp. Everything was cooked just right. I tried to eat a sea scallop, but I just spat it back out. I've been afraid of eating scallops ever since having food poisoning back in December. I don't like the taste nor the smell of it anymore. I never had sauteed kale before, but I liked it. Overall, I thought the food was alright, but I feel there wasn't enough flavor. It was nice to eat in a different setting and part of Brooklyn compared to where we usually eat. The space, decor, and ambiance was definitely nice. Will my boyfriend and I be back? The chances are 50/50 because when we saw there was a funeral home across the street, we were shaking our heads and the food could be better. Ordered appetizer crab cakes, chicken wings and then they only sell a full rack of barbecued ribs, with sweet potatoes fries. The Crabcakes had no taste and you basically needed to have the tarter dipping sauce to add any taste to the crab cakes. They were tasteless. The chicken wings with their own specially made barbecue sauce, were dried out and basically burnt. I informed management of this , and it didn't matter oh well was their attitude! Then came the full rack of barbecued ribs. Again these ribs were dried out and crunchy. They weren't pre-boiled and then cooked like they should've been. I asked for additional barbecue sauce which helped ease down the dried ribs. Upon the bill I was charged an extra two dollars for that sauce. I must say that the sweet potato french fries were very good. The atmosphere is very industrial , however youcan't eat that!! read more

Last night attended a Christmas party here, what a great venue for a party, part of the restaurant was closed off for the party of around 50+ guests. Liquor was flowing and unlimited drinks galore, the beauty was the bar tenders didn't water down the drinks, these were all made with a heavy pour. The surroundings was very festive and the seafood, beef, lamb, and appetizers all were very good. There was even a live band playing in the other end of the restaurant and they sounded great. All around great party, great drinks, good food , and great company what more could you ask for. read more

I love the steakhouse decor and open kitchen grill. It certainly creates a homey feel and has great service to match the welcoming environment. I came here for Sunday late afternoon brunch with my husband, sister and her family. It is a great place for the kids with a special menu just for them. My two year old niece had the chocolate chip pancakes. She certainly enjoyed sticking her fingers in the buttermilk pancakes to find the melted chocolate. I loved seeing her chocolatey face! My seven year old nephew had the kiddie sliders which come in mini English muffin buns. He devoured them! My sister had the grilled chicken sandwich which she stated was certainly spicy so if you're not into that perhaps not a good choice. She however loved it! The boys, my husband and the brother in law got a taste of their beloved red meat with steak and eggs and burgers, both finished every bite. There was a mix up with my meal, however the staff was very forgiving and accommodating and worked hard to serve the delightful egg white spinach and feta omelet. I loved how the eggs felt like the crispy part of a fried egg that I love so much. The hash brown wasn't as crispy as I like it but still was seasoned nicely with salt and pepper. I will be coming back for a private event my sister will be hosting for my nephew's communion party in May. Also there was a large chunk hanging at the right end; it was basically fat that went uneaten. At $27 this was a ripoff. This restaurant is supposed to specialize in MEAT, so what's the excuse for this nonsense. In addition, my buddy ordered the same thing (but with sweet potato fries instead, which added $2). We came here on a Saturday afternoon for a communion party. The restaurant/bar was pretty empty besides the 2 parties in the back including us. The service was great, the servers kept making sure our glasses were filled with whatever we were drinking. I was skeptical at first given how dead the place was. When the food started coming, it was great. The clams were FANTASTIC, ask for extra bread to dip in the sauce! The mussels and shrimp was good but good have used a little more flavoring. They are a Portuguese Restaurant that serves the meat like a Brazilian steakhouse. The meats were all good, the steaks were the star! The sausages were very good and well flavored, the other meats such as chicken, pork, and turkey were all good just a little dry due to being overcooked. The desserts were good. We were in NYC for a combination vacation and assist to help my daughter move from one area to another. Along the way we added three of her friends to our numbers, and it came time to select a place for dinner.I had a urge for meat, and after zipping through most of the high-rated (and priced) steakhouses on the island, we decided to try a place called Raizes, in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn. Taking separate taxis, we arrived just before our reservation, to find that the kids not only beat us there, but had cracked a bottle of red wine, suggested by the waiter. The decor is on the dark side, with many nods to the navigational heritage of the Portuguese owners, including ship's hull ribs adorning the ceiling. Raizes has several interesting menu options, but they highlight their Rodizio - a style of service where you are presented with an almost never-ending procession of skewered meats, with the idea that you eat until you can eat no longer. Four of us opted for this choice, while one had a chicken breast stuffed with mushrooms, tomato and kale - looked fabulous - and the other selected a Portuguese fish-pot called Mariscos Na Cataplana, which uttered an unbelievable aroma as the pot was opened at tableside. My daughter and i shared a half-dozen Bluepoint oysters on the halfshell, which were as fresh a could possibly be. After an average tossed salad, the show began. Among the choices were marinated chicken drumsticks, pork loin, bacon-wrapped pork, marinated steak, broiled top round, lamb, and chorizo sausage. To be honest, the pork loin was on the dry side, as was the chorizo, but everything else was cooked quite well, and came blistering hot, since the grill was in the same room. The lamb, broiled top round and bacon-wrapped pork was especially memorable. Our sides were black beans, sauteed kale, rice, and mashed potatoes. All were acceptable. We appeared to be the first group to come in and order rodizio, so they turned on the spit for us. It looked as if most of the other patrons were either watching soccer in their lounge, or ordering smaller items. I chalked this up to them being neighborhood regulars. Our waiter volunteered the fact that on holiday weekends, they don't usually have as big a crowd. By the time we had had our fill, we noticed a few other parties enjoying the rodizio. Too full for dessert, we asked that our bill be split in 4 ways, and our waiter was happy to comply. We left feeling happy, appreciated, and stuffed. Raizes rates four stars...three for the food, which while there was an issue or two, was solid, and five for the impeccable, professional and friendly service, that made us feel like we were part of their family. Very good for dinner. My spouse and I met with my high school classmate and her husband and we had fun eating. We started with the flaming chorizo and it's not just sizzling hot but actually in flames. Very delicious. Then with a vey tasty sardines and large creamy mussels with a "to die for sauce" where you dip your panini bread. We had this 4 lbs lobster as part of our main course and so much food. I love this place! I came on a Tuesday when they have $20 Rodizio and $20 bottles of wine. The Rodizio was delicious. They had lamb, chicken, beef, pork (it was amazing & I NEVER eat pork, I thought it was turkey!) Service was excellent, and the restaurant was empty.
