A Hong Kong cafe featuring plenty of familiar dishes. I tried here a couple of times and it seems to live up to the standards and never disappoints. The drinks that I tried are the cold Hong Kong milk tea and red bean ice. Both taste really good, the only thing is their red bean ice comes with a short spoon which makes it messy to dig all the red beans out at the end. I tried a lot of their spaghetti with meats and different sauces and they're tasty, but if you like sauce, ask for more. I'm not a big sauce lover, so the sauce is just enough for me; but my family said there's not enough. Their other dishes such as lamb casserole, salted fish fried rice and sizzling plates are all really good too. Pleasantly surprised that their sizzling steak was so good. The salted fish fried rice had enough salted fish in them. The lamb casserole is flavorful and balanced. The service is always friendly and efficient. I really enjoyed the drinks here, more than the food. The red bean slush is reminiscent of my childhood and it was a great mix of sweetened red bean, condensed milk, and ice. The coffee/milk tea has a good strong flavor profile too. Kumquat lime is a very hong Kong drink too. I found the baked beef with rice wasn't very standard. It had less tomato base and more of a five-spice flavor profile. I prefer the style with a more ketchup tomato flavor. The baked fish (tilapia?) was very soft and juicy but the noodles were overcooked. It was a little lack luster in terms of flavor too. The fried salt and pepper chicken wings were very good- juicy and perfectly fried. I would come back and try other dishes, but mainly I would come back for the drinks. read more

Came here on a Saturday afternoon at around 4 as a group of two and the place was around 40% filled. We ordered the salt and pepper squid, baked seafood with rice, and baked pork chop with rice to share. The salt and pepper squid was probably my favorite among everything but the portion was a bit too small. Both of the baked rice also tasted great and I like how they used egg fried rice as the base instead of plain white rice! The portion of the baked rice was very generous and I had enough leftover for two more meals. Overall, great experience! Food came out pretty fast and all the servers were very friendly. I still think their food is yummy but it's really hard to get served. First, the staff is really busy with a lot of people waiting outside. The tables are small because the interior is tight. I saw the staff go as far as sit a party of three around one small round table. The staff served the entrees before the appetizers so there was no space to put the apps and no way the customers could've cleared the entrees quickly to make room. The staff ended up taking the apps back into the kitchen. I was served my food before I even received utensils and drinks. I already asked them a few times for all of those items when I placed my order. It was frustrating having to follow up so many times and not get results. Since my last review, I've tried a few additional items from The Legend Cafe House and did not particularly enjoy them. The minced meat baked spaghetti is just bizarre; it tasted like they put too many additional herbs and spices that just did not work well. We also found star anise which I was not expecting at all. Truly honest review. The place could seriously use an improvement food wise. The baked rice dishes come out with socarrat-esque rice, which I detest. If they used porcelain dishes then this rice problem wouldn't occur. We tried the baked pasta, it was just deplorable in the cha chaan tang world. The sauce in the pork chop with onions over rice was a disaster; I am certain they use flour as a thickening agent because I can still taste and feel it while I ate. It wasn't just me, another person said this item was horrendous after sampling from my lunch. And guess what, the same method of thickening is also in the corn soup aka hard pass no thanks. While on that note, why is there pomelo skins in their borscht soup??? The staff is nice but they really need to fix the food. In a pinch, you can get a quick lunch. However, if it's constantly making a client frown and question why this and why that then they have some reassessing to do. While shopping at JMart across the street, I accidentally locked my car keys in the trunk so while I was waiting for help, I decided to walk around and came across Legend Cafe House. For a Saturday afternoon, the restaurant was quite busy as both outdoor tables were taken and I was given a wait for 20 min for a party of 2. The Legend Cafe House specializes in HK-style cha chaan teng (or diner) dishes and includes specials like baked rice dishes, curry rice dishes, and HK-style French toast. We ordered the baked pork chop with rice ($9.50), the spam & egg soup macaroni ($7.75), a HK-style milk tea ($3.75), and a honey ginger tea ($3.95). The baked pork chop dish came in a lightly creamy tomato sauce, gooey mozzarella cheese, and a ton of rice. You can feed two with this dish alone. The soup macaroni tasted nostalgic and came with an over-easy egg and some crispy, fried Spam. For the price point, I think the portions are fairly huge and a great deal. I would definitely recommend a visit if you're craving HK-diner food or just hungry after shopping. read more

Visited this self proclaimed "Hong Kong style cafe" a couple of times ordering a few HK classic dishes and here is my review. First and foremost at any HK cafe for us is tasting their HK teas. Here we ordered their HK milk tea hot as well as cold plus their cold HK lemon tea. We have had better HK teas in the NYC area but it is not as bland or merely Lipton/Tently tea as some bakeries/restaurants use. The flavor profile is mediocre and not as rich as some of our favorite HK tea spots in NYC. The lemon tea was a bit watered down even upon arrival at our table as well as being loaded with ice. As for food we had ordered their French toast with condensed milk and peanut butter - this was decent, not overly sweet, not overly fried, but a bit less peanut butter than most and using average Chinese bakery white bread. Baked curry beef brisket over rice - done correctly like HK with a fried egg rice base, filled to the top amount of beef and curry that is decently tasty but not exactly authentic HK if this is what you are looking for. Sizzling combo of sirloin steak, borsch soup, fries, spaghetti, and drink - all this for $32. The steak was a large cut abeit not the best cut but considering the price point I cannot complain too much. As well as it being cooked exactly medium plus salted and peppered correctly. The HK borsch soup was average, spaghetti is eh, and fries nice n crispy. Their Supreme soy sauce fried noodles - not how the usual HK soy sauce fried noodle is made and too soggy. I also prefer it with the proper wok hay which this is lacking yet it has some burnt pieces (which I noticed also in the dish the table next to us ordered). However it is filled with all sorts of veggies for those value seekers. So overall speaking of value The Legend Cafe House does offer value and large dishes - we can see this in how busy the place is with families, kids, and the like during peak hours. Impressive is the quality of the waitresses and service they offer - prompt, polite, and they care what they do. My family and friends came for a birthday dinner on Friday night. My husband and my friend ordered the prix fixe T bone steak and asked for it rare, with the Borscht soup, lemon tea. When the borscht soup came, my husband and I noticed right away a hair on the edge of the soup line. We brought it to the waitresse's attention and she took it back. He chose not to get another soup. It was a big turnoff ( We didn't take a picture of that but when it happened a second time on the corn soup, I decided to take a picture.) While we were waiting for the main courses, our appetizers and side dishes came. The chicken wings and calamari portions were small, granted they were appetizers. However, the quality of the food did not match its price point and its small portion. About 5-10 minutes into our waiting, a different waitress comes to the table to ask us if we're sure we want the steaks rare. We thought it was odd, but of course the answer was yes. My son got the oxtail, it was mostly bones ( picture included). The curry sauce was lukewarm. I got the lamb with bean curd, no flavor and microwaved not long enough. It was hot outside and cold inside. Then finally comes the steaks. They were cooked medium well. We immediately brought it to the attention of another waitress who went to the back and never came back. 5 minutes later, we raised our hands to signal another waitress and mentioned to her that the steak wasn't cooked rare. She then went to the back and then 5 minutes later, a manager came to the table. He's a bit standoffish and starts to get flustered about the steak's doneness. He said the kitchen has been busy and the steak was probably cooked rare but during the process of getting it to our table because they are so busy, the steak became medium done because it sat on the warming plate too long. So, we are wondering how is this our problem? Especially, when the waitress made an effort to come out and made sure we had requested something rare ?. The male manager became so frustrated he said, " comp his dish, oh forget it, comp the whole dinner. ) and walked away. 10 minutes later, the male manager comes back. He apologized and said it's slow down now, I can talk to you. He offered another steak but at that time, we were all about to be finished with our food. The waitress who asked about the rare steak came out also and apologized profusely. Once again, their excuse is that they were busy. When we finally got our check, she made it a point to point out that the drinks were on them, all 3 drinks. By the way, most of our drinks were included in the pre fix dinner. In addition, we left 20% tip even though the service was mediocre. Needless to say, my dining experience is now ruined. We are definitely not going back and we don't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Haven't tried too many things on their menu but for the stuff I did try and always keep coming back which is their baked Portuguese chicken over rice is fuego!! Came here for lunch with my sister and we ordered the eggplant with salty fish, squid and preserve veggie with flat noodles (hor fun) and a salt and pepper squid to share. Always been curious about this place as I walked by or drove by it so many times since it sits right across the street from JMart. Usually it's a jam packed place. Today was the day where I finally decided to give this place a try. Upon arrival it was pretty busy but still managed to get a table. We ended up ordering two Hong Kong Milk Teas. A cold one and a hot one. Nothing special but I must warn those who are lactose intolerance that you have been warned hehe. The eggplant and salty fish was decent. Not too spicy overwhelming. Just perfect enough to eat over rice. My favorite though is the curry. I think no matter what protein you get the curry is the same (they cook the meat solo then just pour in the curry gravy). Curry has a little kick to it which is nice. The salt and pepper squid was kinda a disappointment. The picture shown is exactly how much you're getting.
