Had dinner here with family and was able to reserve a private room (minimum $380 table charge) located on the upper floor. This is a Chinese seafood restaurant in Dyker Heights, catering mainly to local customers from the area. Private rooms have better, brighter lighting than the lower level. Food wise- The standout dish was the satay black pepper lamb-chops: which was perfectly seasoned and tendered. Oddly enough, the night of the visit; restaurant ran out of Chicken-Hmm. Sweet and sour pork was good as well-sauce was tangy and pork meat was fried well. Overall, dishes ordered were good; a bit on the pricey side, though it did went way over the minimum table charge.

Read the review on this restaurant. So decided to give it a try for a birthday dinner. This restaurant is not that big, but we could sit comfortable and very spacious. We did the preorder the crab claw, it was just ok. Nothing special, I though it could be a wow. Overall all the dishes that we order, is ok. There's one dish that we all like. I would say overall the taste is ok, but little on the salty side, and there's lots of MSG on all the dishes. Cuz when we got home we all very thirsty. Since it was a birthday dinner, they did provide us the 'Birthday bao', as the standard dessert & fruits. Service wise is ok, could be more attentive. Overall, I would recommend this place. I would come back again, hopefully next time the food is not too salty.

Had dinner on a Wednesday night and it was packed! Good thing we made a reservation in advance. Ordered the following dishes: - Crispy Pig Intestine $19 - Salted Baked Chicken $17.95 - Sautéed Prawns $25.95 - Salt & Pepper Pork $16.95 - Short ribs with braised sauce $28.95 - Steamed Fresh Scallop w. Glass Noodle & Fresh Garlic - Special Price - Steamed Fresh Scallop w. Glass Noodle in Black Bean Sauce - Special Price - Crispy Pigeon $20.95 per pigeon - Yellow Eel in Casserole rice (Large) $60 - Salted egg, mushroom, green & sliced pork soup $18.95 Staff was always available to provide us additional utensils or napkins which was good and also timely in removing finished dishes. They also have space upstairs. At the end of the meal, a plate of fruit (watermelon) and dessert (Taro and Sago?) is served. There are a good variety dishes at this restaurant. I would say the flavoring is a bit on the saltier side. Other than that, I wouldn't mind coming back again.

Came here twice, one for family dinner and a special family banquet meal (private party) within 2 weeks. Halloween evening we wanted dinner. We were dressed up for the kids (for trick or treat) and hungry. We ordered 7 dishes (family style) which really impressed us. Quality ingredients and delicious. Chicken, Peking Pork chop, vegetable chow mei & vegetable fried rice, deep fried tofu, beef short ribs with broccoli, and egg tofu with mixed vegetables. We were so impressed that my sister in law wanted to book private party for her son's 1st birthday party in 2 weeks. Private party room- banquet meal. We had the largest room booked on a Sunday night. Pigeon soup, Peking Pork chop, braised lamb with bean curd, mayo shrimp with candied walnuts & broccoli, steamed flat fish, Lobster with stuffed sticky rice (fried rice style), mushroom mixed vegetables, steak with sautéed asparagus, chicken and vegetable chow mein. We also order a side of white rice and bok choy. Overall, love the food. Will definitely come back. Only qualm was that their restrooms needs more attention. Seems like their wait staff is too busy to check on that and too busy to refill water glasses. The ladies room was out of toilet paper on the night of the party and needed cleaning. #ThankYouThursday

This place keeps changing it's name. Go read my old reviews of Flavor or Taro. It's literally all the same - https://www.yelp.com/biz/flavor-brooklyn-2 and https://www.yelp.com/biz/taro-brooklyn Same good quality of food. Place gets slammed, so you might not be able to get a table, and takeout may take forever, even when they tell you it should be ready.

    Pauline C.

Most dishes were really good, the crab was cooked perfectly, most places overcook and the delicate meat can dry out. The sweet and sour pork missed the mark. Chunks of fatty pork, the coating lacked the crispiness of true Hong Kong style using only cornstarch and the flavor was too salty for this dish.

Flavor Restaurant changed owners and is now named Big 5 Seafood Restaurant. The new management and kitchen used to work in Oriental Garden in Chinatown. I'll bring over my reviews that were left in Flavor that were supposed to belong here. To be updated...

    Menu

The menu at the restaurant. No specials for Mother's Day 2023. Will find out if the food is good or not. Service is good at the moment as it was quick to bring the peanuts, tea, and menus very quickly. The place is well spaced out and well lit. There is a second floor that we did not see so not sure if it is well spaced. Family type atmosphere so it might get a bit loud. Just an extra note. We got there before the dinner rush do not sure if it had anything to do with the speed of service. Giving it 3 stars for now as we have not started eating. Will update when we finish.

Some dishes were bigger than others. Both times I came they didn't have abalone so we substitute the dish for garlic scallop (which I prefer). The menu also says it comes with house special dessert but we never gotten any. For any seafood, it's market price plus they add a 30% processing fee, which is strange to me. For a Chinese restaurant which usually does not charge tax if you pay with cash, they charge tax here whether you pay by card or cash. The restaurant is pretty big and spacious. They have pretty large tables, suitable for parties and celebrations. There's a private space upstairs with 3 large tables for parties. The restaurant is pretty slow in the afternoon.

Bar Chuzo offers really nice Brunch selections from ceviche, salchipapas, tuna, steak and apps from delicious fries, calamari, crab, plantain chips, croquettes and so much more. Here's what we ordered: Apps- Plantain chips( dinamita !) with a side of salsa verde. Two different brunch menus, Menu 1 offers apps, sides, entrees, cocktails and desserts. Menu 2: Bottomless Brunch for 90 minutes choice of Margaritas for $35 or Mimosas for $30. Chicken Chuzo: Brasa marinated chicken skewers, Andes Ecuadorian corn, yuca croquettes. There are two skewers with three pieces of chicken on each, scrumptious, loved the taste of the chicken, the croquettes ( yuca again) nice accompaniment and the corn was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend! Dinamita number four. Cocktail: Mango peach sangria hit the spot! Service: Gabriella is a great, professional and accommodating server. Absolutely wonderful and knows her stuff! Dinamita number five. There are delicious desserts as well but too full. The portions are generous and this meal for me was lunch/dinner. The wait staff was equally charming and attentive and we were directed to the QR code for the menu immediately. It was late afternoon so we opened the Happy Hour menu and it was surprisingly comprehensive. There were cocktails and specialty drinks all discounted for happy hour and a surprisingly large happy hour food menu. The cocktails were excellent (be sure to order a Crystal if you enjoy gin, or an espresso martini which my wife said was excellent) and we ordered Guacamole and chips and oysters which were à la carte and very reasonably priced. My wife doesn't care for oysters so I just ordered a couple for myself. They were beautifully presented on a bed of ice with a fresh lemon, a fresh spicy green mixture instead of horse radish and a sweet but spicy hot sauce. They were wonderful. The guacamole came with home made chips that were thick and well done so they held up to the guac very well. The guac was delicious and a bit chunkier than other places but the texture was wonderful with the thicker chips. For an entree, we chose Chuzos, skewered and grilled chunks of meat (chicken for my wife and NY Strip Steak for me) marinated and grilled to perfection. Both entrees came with large kernel corn which I had never tried before and yuca croquettes, also my first time. The corn was delicious but the kernels were a bit more like beans rather than the corn kernels you might be used to. The yuca croquettes were delicious and probably indistinguishable from potato croquettes in case you are worried you may not enjoy yuca. We actually finished neither entree and the kitchen packed our leftovers carefully for today's lunch (there was PLENTY left over). There was a nice dessert menu but we'll save that for another time. I cannot say enough good things about Bar Chuzo. The staff was friendly and attentive but not hovering or rushing. The food and cocktails were excellently prepared, reasonably priced but not cheap and the dining rooms were beautifully decorated. I will DEFINITELY be back to Bar Chuzo and if you haven't been, I urge you to check them out. You will not be disappointed.

Unfortunately that dish was $175! Another disappointment was one of their specials, I think a beef brisket risotto. The beef was a huge chunk of meat, but it was not tender and it was so hard to even cut. The risotto also had a strange metallic flavor to it. We ended up not eating it.
