    Swiss bun

Tasty bakery items such as the Swiss bun! Their coffee also hits the spot in the morning. I haven't tried anything else besides the bakery items, but nice place. Fantastic prices, especially in the time we live in now.

I come here every so often for dimsum although I don't frequent this part of Avenue U as often as the bakeries closer to the train station. Their dimsum are solid, and my typical go-tos are siumai, ha gow (shrimp dumplings), shrimp rice noodle roll and beef rice noodle roll. Definitely no complaints but nothing special but it does the job! Pre-covid, this bakery gets a lot of foot traffic from locals who'd order a cup of coffee and bun to enjoy and talk.

I had no work but had to come out here anyways so I tried to make my commute more palatable by trying to find some good Dim Sum for the ride home. This place is a Chinese Bakery that also serves pretty good Dim Sum at good prices. I ordered the Chicken Feet, Beef Rice Noodles & Steamed Ribs to go. Each dish was very good but I was really impressed with the Chicken Feet. They had the perfect tenderness & packed with flavor. I really enjoyed each dish. Everything is prepackaged & hot. No dish was more than $2.50. Nice variety & the place was hopping with customers. Dining in & take out. This will definitely be my go to place for Good eats! They also had Vietnamese food & drinks which I liked the idea of getting the best of both worlds at once. I'm not a Dim Sum expert. I just know what I like. And this place was pretty good in my book. Try for yourself. 2 thumbs up! 10-16-2017

I like coming here so that I don't have to deal with getting up at 9:30 AM to secure a table at one of the banquet halls in 8th ave/Chinatown, but can still practice my Hoisan Wah which is the lingua franca here. The ladies are still temperamental as ever, but I like that challenge -- jook sing beware, if you try English, they'll gossip behind your back, but try your tongue at Chinese and you'll be rewarded with smiles and warmth at maintaining cultural ties to the motherland. This was probably my 6th visit, and the first in a few years, but the dimsum was still as consistent as ever. The baos are still high quality and the line is still as busy as ever, which I take as a good sign. If you're in the area and don't want the fuss of chasing down dimsum carts, try out Good Family Bakery.

Dimsum wise, siu mai is not bad, sticky rice wrapped in banana leaf is decent, radish cake (law bak go) is very heavy in white pepper taste I think but also decent. Updated review from 10 years ago…read more.. THE GOOD ---------------- + Still the same ol' restaurant it has been for more than a decade. Not much has changed, which is a VERY good thing. + Dim sum is as good as it gets here. You can't go wrong with any of their rice rolls, pork and shrimp dumplings, shrimp dumplings, chive dumplings, sticky rice in lotus leaf, chicken feet, spring rolls, etc. It's ALL good!!!! + The BBQ meats are also as good as they ever have been as well - roast pork, roast pig and roast duck are all super fresh if you get here early enough to buy them. Just ask for the fattier meats and you're golden. + STILL the best pan fried noodles you will get ANYWHERE. Always super fresh, piping hot, crunchiest noodles ever, plenty of supporting ingredients. Go for the shredded chicken pan fried noodle, you won't regret it. THE NOT SO GOOD ---------------------------- - Prices have definitely gone up a bit over the years, but it's common everywhere. They are pretty much on par with other Chinese restaurants in the area. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = Unfortunately, they no longer have dim sum carts going around on weekends during dim sum hours. Like many restaurants, they have converted to having customers order on paper by ticking off what they want to order :( Sadly, the days of the dim sum cart are slowly dying and it got Wing Hing too.

The restaurants was very lively and spacious which I appreciate. We got a large corner table with the turntable in the middle. We started the meal with two chicken feet dim sum and Mah Lai Goh. The dim sum while looked nice did not have much flavor. One of the things you have to watch out for are the dim sum cart ladies would try to put dim sum dishes you didn't even ask for on your table so you have to make sure to protect your stamp card. You will be charged for items you didn't even ask for. The seven dishes we ordered were: Shrimp with Broccoli and Walnut, Seafood Pan Fried Noodles, Roast Pork, Young Chow Fried Rice, Buddha Delight, Ginger Scallion Chicken, Steamed Fish. The waiter was nice enough but he was really trying to upsell and have us order more than what we ask for. He screwed up two of the seven dishes. I ended up getting the Roast Pork Ping Poon which is the dish with Roast Pork and other meats and jelly fish after I specifically made it very clear that I did not want that particular dish. When it arrived, he tried to make an excuse claiming since we have ten people, it was best to have this dish since the roast pork by itself would be too plain. I wrote this one off since he agreed to charge me as if I got a Roast Pork instead of the platter. The other dish they screwed up was the Chicken Dish. They gave me some Chicken with brown sauce. I just wanted a very basic chopped whole chicken. They then claimed they don't have a basic chicken with scallions and ginger so I had to suck it up and take this dish. I would have been disappointed but the Chicken Dish was actually not bad so all was not loss. The dishes to never order: Buddha Delight- This dish reeks of strong MSG and salt. It's not much green veggies in the dish except mushrooms, more mushrooms and mushrooms. I would skip this dish if I were you. You're basically paying for canned mushrooms on a plate. Young Chow Fried Rice- Seems basic enough but no flavor. It does look good though. After not much shrimp. In the entire dish, you get maybe two pieces of shrimp. Not worth the price or the space in your stomach. Roast Pork Platter- The roast pork didn't have much meat on it. It was very fatty and the adjoining meats were no good. They have the pork slices, the jelly fish, the seaweed and the beef. All were sour and not tasty. Never get this dish. You are wasting your money. The best dishes: Shrimp with Broccoli and Walnuts- Even though the walnut was burnt, the shrimp with mayonnaise sauce was awesome! Steamed Red Grouper- They only had three types of fish to choose from so I had to go with this one since my mother did not like the other fishes. It was surprisingly a good choice. It was very fresh. This one is good. The fish was steamed just right and the meat was very succulent Okay Dishes: Seafood Pan Fried Noodle- It was basic enough but they drench the sauce over the noodles so the noodles got soggy fast. Definitely not something you wanna take home if you don't finish it in the restaurant. Chicken with Brown Sauce- The chicken was very large and meaty. The sauce was not bad. It was actually better than the plain chicken they chop up for you. After the banquet, they give you some sliced oranges. I give this place three stars for the service and the food. I would come back here again but not for the dim sum and the bad dishes. If you want the ordinary dishes like the roast duck, roast pork or anything of the likes, this would not be the place for it.

They don't have anything premade so expect a little wait since the cherng fun is made to order. I recommend calling ahead if you want to place a large order. I think the prices are a little more expensive than what I'm use to. When you place your order, you get to choose if you want to add toppings, if you don't add toppings your cherng fun will come plain as a default aside from the meat/flavor you choose. There's the free option of scallion, cilantro, or bean sprouts. You could add either one or all without additional charge which I thought was nice. They also had premium toppings too for an additional charge. I added scallions to all of the following: - Chicken/Beef: Both meats are good options, solid choice if you're looking for a good cherng fun. The meat is lightly seasoned and they give a good amount in the cherng fun too. - Beef with pickled veggies: My favorite out of the mix so far, the beef paired so well with the pickled veggies. The pickled veggies had a nice crunch to it despite being steamed. I also liked the amount of filling that came with it. - Curry fishballs w/ steamed cherng fun: The curry smells so good, you can taste the curry flavor in the fishballs and they actually had a small kick of spice to it. The order came with 8 fishballs. They drizzle a bit of curry sauce on top but I kind of wished they put more curry sauce because it wasn't enough to coat all the noodles. - Dried shrimp: Classic dried shrimp cherng fun, tad bit on the salty side but still good - Shrimp with salted duck yolk egg: Interesting combo, the grittiness from the salted duck yolk was a bit much and it made the texture of the cherng fun seem a little rough. Probably wouldn't get this unless craving. - Mixed mushrooms: A little bitter? didn't mix that well with the cherng fun. Didn't have a strong umami flavor either. Not horrible but would not recommend. Overall I thought the cherng fun was good. The cherng fun is not the dim sum style, it's the hand rolled/scrapped style. They have a lot of options but of the flavors didn't hit for me. Texture wise, it was very thin and smooth with the right amount of bounce to it. You can tell how thin the rolls are when you really look at it. I thought the soy sauce they provided coated all the layers nicely. It wasn't oily and all the rolls had a nice fragrant rice smell to it. Comparable to Joe's or West King rice roll, close to that quality. I just didn't think they were as stretchy as the other places. Worth trying since the quality is there and there's so many options

Of course we ordered their lobster with noodles and for an extra lobster, the dish came out to $33. Not bad. We also ordered a few dim sum dishes and I have to say, all of their dim sum dishes were spot on. I love the chicken feet. It was tender, packed with flavor and I don't think they used color dye to make it red. That was definitely a plus. We also enjoy their tripe. It was tender, not chewy and also full of umami flavor. Their pork ribs was juicy, plump and not fatty either. Additionally, we ordered their fried stuffed tofu/pepper/eggplant dish and that too was so good. There are no carts here; you mark off which dim sum dishes you want on a paper menu and they bring it to you at your table. The dim sum was not steaming hot, which was disappointing. The quality and flavor was not as good as Fortune Palace either. It makes sense why this place didn't have a wait while Fortune Palace was packed and such a long wait for a table.
