If I could give no stars, I would. I don't eat from Chinese Food Restaurants in neighborhoods like this because I always hear horror stories. I had a craving and wanted to get some food and everyone always talks about how good this food is. RUN! I walked in and placed an order, there was an older woman sitting in area where customers sit to eat. She was coughing alot and I was like wow but ignored it she was older woman and you just never know. I turned around and she SPIT ON THE RESTAURANT FLOOR. I told the woman taking my order forget it and let her know the old woman spit on the floor. She addressed the woman as "mama" and said something in her language. If she can spit in the area where people eat, I could imagine what she would do in the kitchen. She was CLEARLY family of the restaurant. I was so sick to my stomach. My fiancé and I ordered from there recently. He ordered Vegetable Lo Mein which was flavorless & heavily salted. Their menu claims that they offer Hunan, Szechuan & Cantonese cuisine. They also advertise on their menu that they are MSG free. Very important! I ordered the Moo Shu chicken which was odd because the accompanying pancakes came with with Hoisin sauce as opposed to the standard Plum sauce. The Hoisin had a strong & salty taste to cover up what can only be described as lifeless Chinese cabbage with no vegetables. When I arrived home I arrived with a Migraine Headache & realized that their overly salty Hoisin sauce was laced through & through with Migraine inducing MSG. I was ill with a horrendous Migraine for over 36 hours & this also caused me to be sick to my stomach. This Chinese takeout restaurant has printed on their menus that they don't use MSG & they'd probably say that their Hoisin Sauce was purchased commercially. However, if they're going to state that they don't use MSG, their Chef should be cooking Plum sauce for any Moo Shu dishes as well as Hoisin for any ribs or other dishes for which it might be called. I recommend avoiding this Chinese takeout until the chef learns to cook sauces & dishes properly or is replaced. read more

Ordered a shrimp Chow Mein but the dish only had vegetables and shrimp. No noodles what so ever. When we called to ask they said this is how it is made. Waste of money and liars. How can a noodle dish NOT have any noodles. My guess is that they are too lazy to redo it because of their mistake. Stay away from this place!!! read more

Great spot, reminds me of some of my favorite places in Bensonhurst. My first meal was a feeling out sampler to see how it stacked up to what i'm used to. My friend who's lived in the neighborhood his whole life highly recommended this place so I tried it out. I ordered general tso's chicken which was perfect in every way! The chicken was pretty good quality, spicy and a nice crunchy outside. Their wonton soup is also great, with a pork filling I had never eaten before that I loved. Also tried the steamed vegetable dumplings and loved that too. They put Chinese vegetable inside instead of mixed veggies but it was still excellent. Finally there was an egg roll that was given complimentary, and I enjoyed it even though it was pretty small. Bottom line: Grand Wok is as good as it gets for a small, mom and pop fast take out place. read more

I come to Brooklyn once a year. The first place I stop by is Grand Wok. Great, authentic, Chinese food. Old school New York style. The only nearby Chinese place I've found that both delivers and takes a card. One tradeoff is an inevitable bit of communication trouble on the phone. Expect to spell out your street name four or five times. Still, cheap; big portions; good, solid stuff. Not much more to say. Your typical mid-Brooklyn Chinese place, with added convenience. We really enjoyed the boneless ribs - they were tender and juicy, not chewy like a lot of places. This is a classic Chinese take-out/delivery joint. What they do, they do very well. That is to say, they produce Very good Chinese food designed for American taste buds. The egg rolls are great, the spare ribs (regular and boneless) are sweet and meaty, and the son and daughter speak English, so don't worry about your order getting messed up; they work the telephone and are very nice and professional. The whole family who runs this place is friendly and it is clean, with a couple of tables if you want to eat in, which I never have. Delivery is quick and they offer free stuff for low $$. Live right up the block so they are my go to Chinese spot. The girl who works the counter is very nice and helpful. She remembered me and my boyfriends usual down to the nitty gritty . Always giving us TWO FORKS and no veggies ! Love that! Also the food is very delicious. I'm addicte to the shrimp Lo mein and shrimp rolls. The dumplings are a little small though. Also be cautious when you buy a large order pf white rice. its a TON of rice !!!!The best thing after the shrimp is the fact they accept credit cards ! so frustrating to fond spots that dont accept plastic. great spot, great prices. This place changed owners around December 2012 and they've definitely improved it. The old Grand Wok was a solid 3 stars, good for what it was, consistant, but you'd never go out of your way to order from there especially woth China New Star so close. Now, their food is more flavorful, there sauces and soups are highly improved and their pork buns are delicious! Now, my friends and I only order here.
