This was close to my office for 2 jobs for many years. Attended an outing for an organization I'm part of and the food is still as good as before. We ordered from a party menu which is great. Everyone gets a choice of soup, a little appetizer dish is boneless ribs, eggroll and dumpling then choose your main course. I went with sesame chicken and white rice. They brought me fried rice by accident but quickly Brought me a dish of white rice. The plates were huge. Many didn't finish their dinners and took home. The food always tastes good except this time . I ordered for pick up beef and broccoli and general tso combination plates one with white rice ones with fried. White rice due to an egg allergy. I finally decided to try this place out after several friends recommended it. I came today for dinner with my daughter and we noticed that the restaurant was big very old school like Chinese restaurant. As we entered, the Hostess greeted us promptly and we were asked if we wanted a booth or a table we elected to get the booth. As we sat, we noticed that they had table cloths, and the table was set very nicely. Soon after we sat down, the server came over. He brought us the crispy noodles with the house made duck sauce as well as the house made hot mustard. The crispy noodles with the duck sauce was delicious. I'm not a big fan of mustard and general so I didn't try that. We were also given a complementary pot of Chinese tea. after looking at the menu, we decided to order the boneless spare ribs, the accessory chicken, and the chicken lo mein and we wanted to split it up like Family style. First thing we tried was the boneless spareribs they were meaty and juicy, and tender the sauce was not too overbearing. The only thing I would change is perhaps cutting them into smaller slices. then we decided to try the sesame chicken and we added some chicken lo mein to it. The sesame chicken was white meat. It was fresh. It had a light fluffy taste to it and it wasn't too salty the chicken lo mein. We also enjoyed perhaps maybe needing more chicken and the lo mein but other than that no complaints here. The service was prompt and very attentive and like other reviewers it wasn't overbearing. We have eaten at China New Star on many occasions and done take out as well. We had take out on Christmas and again today and the food was quite second rate. We had previously enjoyed the egg rolls , which had always been crispy and not greasy. This week in both instances the egg rolls were mushy and greasy. Tonight we had chicken with cashew nuts, pork with pea pods, and chicken lo mein. Each dish had no spices whatsoever and were very very bland. Show a new store has some really really good American style, Chinese food they're chicken, wings, pork, fried rice, general tsao's chicken, and their shrimp loin is absolutely incredible. The service itself is really spectacular. The weight staff are super nice and quick to come to your table. They truly have made the restaurant an upscale Chinese American takeout/dine in Place. I have been eating and taking food out from China New Star for over 20 years. My most recent take out I spent $138.00 for a large selection of food which included an order of Shrimp toast. The Shrimp toast was sour and not edible. I called to notify them since I do not live close and they refused to give me credit. Bad move. I have been a loyal customer and have spent literally thousands of dollars there. Well no more. They have lost a customer for their disrespect and the ridiculous way they handled my complaint. This is a winner. They accommodated us after celebrating the life of my son father. And it was last minute too. We had a crowd of close to 25 people. The food here us really good and I am not a big fan of Chinese food like I use to. I had the shrimp lo mein with extra broccoli and a Pineapple Passion drink which came in a cute cup. I dined at this beautiful Chinese restaurant just yesterday. The ambiance is lovely. Relaxing and welcoming. Service was excellent. Waiters visited our table several times. The food is outstanding. I had General Tsao's chicken and shrimp which was bathed in a delicious sauce and accompanied by some broccoli. Huge portions. My portion was easily enough for two people. Also, it was not possible to make any alterations or substitutions, which makes it especially difficult to eat here with younger kids. This place has been around since I was a kid, I have so many memories of coming here that it makes eating here even better. My favorite was the boneless ribs and the pepper steak. The egg drop soup was delicious as well. My husband doesn't usually like egg rolls but he said they were really good. Even the pork fried rice was dark, salty and hard. The food was not even hot...more like lukewarm. We were so disgusted that we insisted upon speaking to the owner, who admitted that the sauce was "pre-made"....PRE-MADE????? WTF???? Every dish tasted exactly the same....the spare ribs were dry and hard, and the waitstaff were pushy and rude. TL;DR - tasteless cuisine, no flavor in most of the dishes we ordered i was initially happy to read that China New Star has come under new management and renovated their space. Fellow reviewers noted how clean and well-kept the restaurant is, and of course being picky about cleanliness, that was a relief to hear. We're still in a parallelogram though, so i haven't been dining out and been getting takeout instead. We ordered: - 3 shrimp rolls: Momz complained that hers was too oily; i thought mine was okay - large singapore mei fun with just vegetable: not bad, but while you could see the curry seasoning, the flavor of the dish was just bland - small vegetable in garlic sauce: this was perhaps the only good dish with flavor. The garlic sauce was on point and the veggies weren't soggy. - 2 orders of fried chicken wings: These were done well - my Mum enjoyed them, but for me, they needed more seasoning - large shrimp fried rice: they didn't skimp on the shrimp at all - there were nicely cleaned shrimp in every bite - but again, NO FLAVOR. Even soy sauce and pepper sauce didn't help. Sorry China New Star - i'll not be returning. i NEED my cuisine to be well-seasoned and flavored throughout! read more
