The best of the Brooklyn old school Chinese spots. I have wanted to come for years & now I've come twice. Firstly, it's inaccessible by public transportation but parking is plentiful. It's big and renovated & there's booths! The noodles are still housemade and it's not inexpensive but its quality is unsurpassed with Hunan Cottage right up there. The egg foo young had quality shrimp, and the General Tso's chicken was well made with just the right amount of breading. The wonton and hot and sour soups were both tasty, and dessert was delicious. This is my favorite place to eat Chinese food without having to go into the city or to Flushing. This is definitely a neighborhood gem for Mill Basin area. They survived COVID big time and I think they got more customers based on how they handled COVID practices. They never disappoint in food quality nor service. Definitely a restaurant to recommend. Service was fast and our server was very pleasant. Came here to celebrate a small birthday and we all left with a happy belly. Portions are great to share. The fried noodles were a great starter and the wonton paired perfectly with the cool weather outside. I ordered the General Tao's Chicken that was very savory, plus I added some additional sauce to my dish that gave a nice base to have alongside the rice with fresh broccoli. This was close to my office for 2 jobs for many years. Attended an outing for an organization I'm part of and the food is still as good as before. We ordered from a party menu which is great. Everyone gets a choice of soup, a little appetizer dish is boneless ribs, eggroll and dumpling then choose your main course. I went with sesame chicken and white rice. They brought me fried rice by accident but quickly Brought me a dish of white rice. The plates were huge. Many didn't finish their dinners and took home. The chicken was nice big chunks of white meat chicken. The ribs had that perfect bbq sauce. And of course some chocolate ice cream to end the night read more

This is the only old school Chinese restaurant left in Brooklyn. Deep fried noodles hot mustard and duck sauce placed on the real table clothed tables with a hot pot of Chinese tea to start. Lobster Cantonese cannot be found anywhere else. The service is like being in a movie from a time forgotten when class and elegance meant something. The food always tastes good except this time . I ordered for pick up beef and broccoli and general tso combination plates one with white rice ones with fried. White rice due to an egg allergy. Someone was kind enough to pick it up for me . Unfortunately both were with fried rice with egg in it. I was unable to eat my meal. Due to the egg. This is the second time this has happened to me . Best eggrolls in Brooklyn but why change the duck sauce? Hoping the new choice is temporary.

I finally decided to try this place out after several friends recommended it. I came today for dinner with my daughter and we noticed that the restaurant was big very old school like Chinese restaurant. As we entered, the Hostess greeted us promptly and we were asked if we wanted a booth or a table we elected to get the booth. As we sat, we noticed that they had table cloths, and the table was set very nicely. Soon after we sat down, the server came over. He brought us the crispy noodles with the house made duck sauce as well as the house made hot mustard. The crispy noodles with the duck sauce was delicious. I'm not a big fan of mustard and general so I didn't try that. We were also given a complementary pot of Chinese tea. after looking at the menu, we decided to order the boneless spare ribs, the accessory chicken, and the chicken lo mein and we wanted to split it up like Family style. First thing we tried was the boneless spareribs they were meaty and juicy, and tender the sauce was not too overbearing. The only thing I would change is perhaps cutting them into smaller slices. then we decided to try the sesame chicken and we added some chicken lo mein to it. The sesame chicken was white meat. It was fresh. It had a light fluffy taste to it and it wasn't too salty the chicken lo mein. We also enjoyed perhaps maybe needing more chicken and the lo mein but other than that no complaints here. The service was prompt and very attentive and like other reviewers it wasn't overbearing. I would say all in all my daughter and I really enjoyed our dinner and we will come back and maybe try some of their other menu items. read more

Show a new store has some really really good American style, Chinese food they're chicken, wings, pork, fried rice, general tsao's chicken, and their shrimp loin is absolutely incredible. The service itself is really spectacular. The weight staff are super nice and quick to come to your table. They truly have made the restaurant an upscale Chinese American takeout/dine in Place. I've come here personally and eaten at the restaurant multiple times already in the last couple of months The prices are a little bit on the higher side but you are paying for quality as well as freshness every single dish that you order will be made fresh to order and it comes out piping hot and delicious. I have ordered multiple times here to the house as well as eaten, and every single time we ordered the food is made perfectly and fresh. I have zero complaints about this place. They made me pay for a whole platter even though I ordered by the dish. The second time I went I was told if I wanted a lunch special I had to order it off the Togo menu When I looked at the dining in menu the dishes were referred to as chef specials, at the same prices. When I asked for veggie fried rice instead of pork he told me there was a charge. Is it worth a dollar to do that to customers? I got white without a charge Serving was big The food wasn't as good as it used to be. The service was inconsistent The ambiance was ok (cloth table cloths, napkins). We have eaten at China New Star on many occasions and done take out as well. We had take out on Christmas and again today and the food was quite second rate. We had previously enjoyed the egg rolls , which had always been crispy and not greasy. This week in both instances the egg rolls were mushy and greasy. Tonight we had chicken with cashew nuts, pork with pea pods, and chicken lo mein. Each dish had no spices whatsoever and were very very bland. This is a winner. They accommodated us after celebrating the life of my son father. And it was last minute too. We had a crowd of close to 25 people. The food here us really good and I am not a big fan of Chinese food like I use to. I had the shrimp lo mein with extra broccoli and a Pineapple Passion drink which came in a cute cup. Our plates were very healthy and packed with enough to take home. I was looking at the other plates and wanted what they had too. My first time here and it won't be my last. I have been eating and taking food out from China New Star for over 20 years. My most recent take out I spent $138.00 for a large selection of food which included an order of Shrimp toast. The Shrimp toast was sour and not edible. I called to notify them since I do not live close and they refused to give me credit. Bad move. I have been a loyal customer and have spent literally thousands of dollars there. Well no more. They have lost a customer for their disrespect and the ridiculous way they handled my complaint. Clean restaurant with a robust menu and pretty good food. Staff was not friendly, but service was at least prompt. Also, it was not possible to make any alterations or substitutions, which makes it especially difficult to eat here with younger kids. We ended up having to order a few full menu items (that went to waste) just to find a combination that worked for our kids. All in all, I'd eat here again and just set the bar a bit lower. read more

We figured we would order a few menu items and just split everything. The items we went with were orange chicken, chicken and shrimp, and beef and shrimp. Everything was delicious. Tomato egg drop soup, wonton egg drop soup, shrimp egg rolls, chow mein (chop suey for the west coasters), tofu veggie stir fry, garlic chicken and shrimp stir fry, scallion pancake, mei fan noodles, veggie dumplings and vegetable chow mein. It came with two portions of rice, flavor profiles were on point. I was a smidgen disappointed with the shrimp egg rolls, only a couple pieces of small shrimp and the rest of the filling was cabbage, good but we'll skip those next time.
