We went to Mr. Banh Mi, which is mostly a takeout spot, but they do have some seating, four seats facing the window inside, and a small outdoor table for two. You can order from a kiosk or at the counter. There's also a restroom in the back that was clean. The Mr. Banh Mi sandwich was pretty good and huge. I got full just from eating half! The Fish & Chips surprised us with how large it was. The fish was tasty, but I fell in love with the fries--they were incredibly crispy, and I don't know how they made them that good. We also got the Vietnamese coffee and Thai milk tea--both were solid and enjoyable.
It's tough to find a really good Banh Mi spot in Brooklyn, especially since there's a smaller Vietnamese community here. As a Vietnamese person who's had my fair share of Banh Mi, I had a serious craving and decided to check this place out. If I could give a 3.5-star rating, that's where I'd land. I tried two Banh Mi, and while the bread was excellent--crispy on the outside, soft inside--and the ingredients were fresh, something was missing for me. There was no Vietnamese mayo and pâté, which to me are essential components that give Banh Mi its signature richness and depth of flavor. The egg rolls, on the other hand, were hot, fresh, and satisfying. I appreciated that they came with lettuce--nice touch. I also tried the Vietnamese coffee. It definitely packed a punch, but they were a bit light on the condensed milk, so it leaned more bitter than I prefer. Overall, it's a solid spot with potential, especially if you're in the neighborhood and craving something close to home.
Ah, finally a Vietnamese restaurant that places emphasis on bahn mis on 86th Street. It leans on the more modern side of this dish (and cuisine). However, I'm wondering if being modern = $12+. My favorite banh mi place on 8th ave (Thanh da) is only $9 and that's already with the price hike. In comparison, the Mr. Banh Mi I tried here is not as good as some very well-known, longstanding banh mi shops in Brooklyn and Chinatown. However, it's a decent banh mi that I wouldn't mind eating whenever I'm craving banh mis and don't want to go any farther than 86th Street. I have yet to try the shop's other menu items.
Ambiance - A clean and very decent shop. Have a few tall stool to sit facing the street enjoying the meal. Overall it gives off a relaxing vibes. Service - very friendly and fast. The cashier/owner? were pretty attentive, making sure if customers wanted any jalapeños or spiciness in the meal. pretty attentive. Food - they have some more options to try beside the traditional Vietnamese sandwiches and drinks. - Portion is a bit different from the pictures. The bread is very soft and crispy. The Salted Cream Top Coffee was very interesting. The sauce that comes with the rice is very good and very spicy. The Lemongrass chicken was a must try. I will go back and try the Lemongrass Pork.
Love this place! This is a small place - window counter seating and a single service counter with self ordering. Food is affordable and amazing. I highly recommend the fish and chips for the crispy fries!
Was in the area and came back again. Good service and the banh mi was okay. I wish they made it more spicy. The bread texture is crunchy. I like crunchy but with the white part of the bread soft.
The bread here is amazing! So incredibly fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Not stale at all and tasted very fresh. Usually banh mi breads cut the roof of my mouth or I just get tired of chewing but man the bread here is great. I read that they make the bread in house fresh daily. I ordered the Mr Banh Mi since it is their signature and the Lemongrass Pork Banh mi. Both were very tasty. I will definitely come back again because of their bread!
Came here twice, once to try the banh mi and the second time for the rice box/vermicelli salad. There is limited seating with like two seats facing the window. Tried the Mr. Banh M $12 and bulgogi beef $15. The Mr. Banh Mi had BBQ pork and the bulgogi beef was a korean-style thinly sliced rib-eye steak. Both were served with mayo, cucumbers, pickled daikon & carrots, and cilantro served on a toasted French baguette. Both were pretty good. Liked the bulgogi one since it's not your typical vietnamese sandwhich. Tried the vermicelli noodles with thinly sliced rib-eye steak $17 and the meat lover's rice box that was lemongrass pork & chicken, bulgogi beef $18. Both came with lettuce, pickled red onions, cucumbers, and pickled daikon & carrots. Both were pretty big portions but that was because there was way more vermicelli noodles and rice underneath the box. There was a lot of meat though and the flavors were alright. It was a bit disappointing though as the meat was rough compared to when we had the banh mis. I think I would stick to the sandwiches if I decide to come again.
BLUF: Better bulgogi beef bánh mì (Vietnamese sandwiches) than the Joju chain. Mr. Banh Mi ("MBM") is a tiny shop with four counter-style seats that offers regular and fusion-style Vietnamese bánh mì. MBM is most directly comparable for me with Joju, a small chain in Elmhurst, Queens that set the standard in the 2010's for fusion-style bánh mì. Mr. Banh Mi does some things better than Joju. Bulgogi Beef Sandwich: Mr. Banh Mi's version is hands-down better than Joju's version. MBM's version costs $14 ($15.24 with tax), while Joju's sandwich is slightly less at $12.99 ($14.14 with tax). MBM uses bulgogi beef pieces, compared to Joju's greasy, over-salted beef mince. Mr. Banh Mi's bread is soft, airy, with a slightly crispy crust. I've never liked Joju's bread, and it's even worse these days. Mr. Banh Mi has a respectable protein to carrot slaw ratio, while Joju's sandwiches have a lower-then-ever protein to carrot slaw ratio. Some Joju sandwiches have included kim chi in recent years, which further waters down their flavor. Lemongrass Chicken Sandwich: $10 ($10.89 with tax) I liked this sandwich less than the Bulgogi Beef version, because the chicken didn't have much lemongrass flavor. Quail Egg Crispies: $5 ($5.44 with tax) A hard-boiled quail egg inside a deep-fried wonton wrapper, a Thai sweet chili dipping sauce. Cute, but skippable.
Very small place, but they make great food. Almost looks like a small cafe. The banhmis were good. We did a traditional and a chicken banhmi. Side of Watertown. The food came out pretty quick, I enjoyed the both, I usually got halfsies with my wife. I will probably go back if I'm in the area. If you're looking for something good and quick this is definitely an option. Viet coffee was super strong like omg but it def woke me up on my ride home.
Ordered lunch from here-the lemongrass pork salad. The noodles were delicious and I loved the fried scallion but the pork was extremely overcooked (see picture) and dry. Also I asked for spicy nuoc and it was definitely not spicy at all.
Really good banh mi sandwiches! We got 2 Mr Banh Mi (one spicy, one non-spicy) and my husband, who's a stickler about his banh mi sandwiches, couldn't stop talking about the flavors and texture of the bread. We also took our 2 year old along and got him the crunchy fries and an order of their 4pc fried spring rolls. Both were very good, crispy and flavorful. My kiddo actually loved the dipping sauce that came with the spring rolls and dipped his fries in it. The lettuce came packaged separately and I appreciated the way they packaged everything into individual boxes. Pretty small spot with only 4 barstools and tables lined against the window but clean, minimalistic and modern. The menu on the wall is easy to read and straight to the point. We went in around 11:30am on a Friday. The woman who took our order was kind, patient and our all our food came out very quickly. Definitely recommend and definitely coming back.
This shop replaced Little Saigon Pearl. I purchased two sandwiches. The total cost was $22. The ones I brought were Mr. Bahn Mi and Lemongrass Chicken. Bread was delicious. They didn't went stingy with the meat. I didn't know if I wanted it to be spicy. The cashier gave me a little container of sliced jalapeños. He told me the Mr. Bahn Mi is the popular choice. The shop is extremely clean. It has this modern interior design.
What's for dinner? Breakfast! There are times when I crave a Banh mi, classic symptoms: wooziness, daikon flashes, mayo running into the baguette and eggs... crave eggs.. something different for dinner that includes eggs!!!!!! Then I see the delivery bag stamped Mr. Banh Mi in my daydream and remember the Breakfast Banh Mi! I love their two breakfast options so much that I alternate my order when I'm in that Banh mi state of mind. BREAKFAST Two fried runny eggs, spam, mayo ucumbers, pickled daikon & carrots and cilantro served on a toasted French Baguette. OR EGGCELLENT Two fried runny eggs, BBQ pork, mayo, cucumbers, pickled daikon & carrots, and cilantro served on a toasted French baguette. Today there was a discount on the Eggcellent Banh mi and I ordered it. My dreams turned into reality. That first bite: toasted French Baguette crunch, BBQ pork with mayo and the shredded carrots. The best part, the runny eggs that I can dip my baguette ends on. Total perfection! I cannot emphasize that these are one of the top places for me to order Banh mi's from. Consistently fresh and delicious! I want to dine IRL so I can feed my wooziness in their restaurant. Check out the menu for all of their delicious options. **review for delivery only read more
I've forgotten how good a classic banh mi could be until trying Mr. Banh Mi. I tried their signature Mr. Banh Mi which was a perfect bite of BBQ pork, Vietnamese ham, pork pate, mayo, cucumbers, pickled daikon & carrots and cilantro on a toasted French baguette - crunchy but not too hard. My husband raved about the Eggcellent banh mi which included two fried runny eggs and BBQ pork. Our kid enjoyed the Lemongrass Chicken rice box. Service was nice. Would definitely return again. read more
Not too shabby. Fresh-baked bread onsite and a loaded sandwich? Sign me up. This is definitely a takeout spot, although they do have two chairs for you to sit and quickly eat, or wait for your order. They also serve the Banh Mi in a bowl format, a variety of Vietnamese drinks, and a few fried appetizers such as fries and fried chicken. My go-to spots for Banh Mi's in Brooklyn are generally in Vietnamese restaurants, as the choices are very limited around here. I am glad there is an attempt to capture the Banh Mi market here. The traditional Banh Mi tasted authentic, and the vegetables were generous. The freshness of the bread is evident, and they toasted just the right amount so that it does not painstakingly scrape the roof of my mouth with each bite. Overall, a positive experience and will come back! read more

Mr Bahn Mi is super close by and I'm happy a really sweet family opened up here! There's definitely a lack of bahn mis on 86th St. I personally always get the Mr. Bahn Mi. The bread is great- not hard, still soft but crunchy exterior. I love how the sandwiches are stuffed with the right proportions. Nothing is overpowering each other. My family loves the lemon grass chicken and it's very flavorful. Definitely a close second. My aunt and I also come here for our Vietnamese Iced Coffees! They make it perfectly every time- not too sweet as she says. read more
Accidental discovery! Went to have breakfast at our usual spot on 86th St and while waiting 20 mins (IYKYK there's always a queue at this HK style cafe), my kids walked pass this new storefront and told me about it. Such a cute boutique storefront - hope their Banh Mi is just as good. After breakfast, we decided to look up to see if they deliver - and they do! So we ordered lunch the next day from here. Their baguette was delicious! Crispy yet soft inside and while their filling is not over stuffed, for me it was the quality (the pate was on point! BBQ pork bits - delish) in their filling. We were very happy with our banh mi... however on a 2nd occasion, we may have ordered a tad late (4pm ish) - we notice the bread was not as crispy and was slightly burnt. Also tried their bowl... it was ok, the pork was a bit dry and overpowered by lemongrass. We ordered spring rolls and got a mixed up "fried shrimp rolls"... didn't love it. So we think this is a solid lunch spot and not a late afternoon spot. Packaging was good, no leaks or spills with out viet coffee (really strong!) but skip the Thai ice tea if you preferred the sweeter kind. Overall - a good option for Banh Mi! read more
Definitely my go to banh mi spot when I have this craving now! The recent visit where I ordered the lemongrass pork and a Mr. Banh Mi had me gushing over this place. I was still salivating over the taste hours after consumption omg. I especially loved the lemongrass pork one - on the salty side, but so darn flavorful. They packed the sandwich with sooo much pork too, and while some of the pork pieces were quite fatty, I didn't mind at all because it was just bursting with juices. I immediately wanted a second one! Mr Banh Mi is the bbq pork one with the ham and pate, and their bbq pork is just as good. Another packed sandwich! The pickled veggies aren't too pungent for me, which I personally enjoyed, but I think some might prefer a more pickled flavor. The bread was fluffy and on the spot side - my partner prefers a crispy bread, but I hate when it cuts my mouth so I'm happy in this front too :D read more
I've been getting food from Mr. Banh Mi since their first week of opening. It replaced Little Saigon Pearl which was in the neighborhood for many years. I was skeptical at first about another Vietnamese food being in this tiny spot, but I'm so glad Mr. Banh Mi didn't disappoint. Of course, I had to try all their banh mi first (hence the restaurant name). I read that they make their own banh mi bread, which is a smaller-ish, soft baguette compared to the usual hard ones you might have gotten from other Vietnamese restaurants. The version here is a modernized spin, which truly elevated this sandwich by using fresh bread and freshly pickled vegetables. The protein offered in the banh mi/bowls are delicious as well, but beware that the pork or chicken chop here doesn't come in a whole chop: It's chopped chops in your food (in case you're not used to that). Only the bulgogi-style beef is piping hot, other meats are usually at room temperature or lukewarm. I also tried their vermicelli salad and they are super refreshing especially during the heat. Wings are soooo delicious! Perfectly sauced and crunchy, think Korean-style wings. Viet coffee is pretty good, too and I'm not usually a coffee drinker. Lastly, service has been friendly overall (card-friendly). I've been serviced by different staff and so far still great experience. So happy Mr. Banh Mi is here to provide higher quality Vietnamese food that truly stands out in the neighborhood. read more

What a hidden gem this place is. Chic beautiful decor when you walk in, newly renovated, friendly staffs. Love the options on their menu - banh mi, rice bowls, and vermicelli bowls. Appetizers and drinks . We ordered the cracked wings which was amazing , crispy on the outside with its signature sweet and spicy sauce. This one was so worth it as the wing pieces were supersized . The lemongrass pork was humongous . Do they even make a profit by giving so much meat ? It was like a supersize bowl . Service was quick and in less than 10 minutes got my order despite a line of people waiting for their order. Highly recommend and finally 86th street has a banh mi place. Would come back all day every day . read more

Welcome addition to the neighborhood! The closed banh mi spot before this one was on 8th Ave. I had the Mr. Banh Mi which had bbq pork along with the traditional fillings. Very good size and great tasting. The chicken wings were huge and well worth the price. Give this place a try. Support small business! read more

Been wanting to try this highly rated Banh Mi shop and finally had a chance to pick up a Mr. Banh Mi and a Vietnamese iced coffee to go. Gentleman handling our order was polite and friendly. Glad to see it's a small locally owned family business. The banh mi was fresh and well prepared overall. The bread is made in house from my understanding which is impressive. In terms of texture and taste of the bread it's about average and I've had better at a couple of other Brooklyn Banh Mi spots. The veggies are finely shredded which is different than other spots however I did find it lacking a bit of zest. The minced BBQ pork filling is a take from the OG Banh Mi spot that's been around 40 years in Chinatown. Speaking about filling/cold cuts - it's your usual except banh mi filling just a tad less amount wise compared to others. The traditional mayo and pate was definitely on the light side or lacking. On to the iced Vietnamese coffee pretty decent taste as some decent spots. Overall I give them kudos for baking their own bread and for prep/presentation but price is a factor comparing other banh mi spots in Asian areas as $13 for a banh mi in Bensonhurst vs $8 to $9.50 in Bensonhurst/Sunset Park/Bay Ridge is a tough bite to digest unless possibly yours is significantly better/bigger than the others. But I still wish their shop to prosper. read more

Really yummy! Ordered the chicken Bahn mi and fries. The sandwich was great. Bread was fresh, chicken and veggies were delish, and the sandwich was overstuffed! Had the pleasure of meeting Ken the owner of Mr. Banh Mi and learned a bit about this local small business. Because this small shop is located on the side corner off the busy 86th Street- many of the time it's being overlooked. Ordered the popular Original Banh Mi Sandwich ($10) with their home-made bread, and a hot Vietnamese coffee- great meal combo. Ken also gave an order of complimentary spring rolls with their delicious fish sauce- accompanies the spring rolls perfectly. This little small Viet bakery packs a very big and flavorful punch in this neighborhood. Hopeful this small business can thrive read more

In the beginning (when they first opened), depending on the day, the baguettes for the Banh Mi's were a hit or miss. It was either stale or perfect, no in between but ever since the revamp/expansion of their menu, it has always been a hit! The customer service is great and the establishment is clean but they do have limited seating. My go-to now is the Eggcellent Banh Mi because the perfectly fried runny eggs on each half is such a game changer! Before the revamp, it was the Mr. Banh Mi as it was loaded and so flavorful. I recommend getting a Vietnamese Coffee or Thai Milk Tea to go along with your food. It's not too sweet, strong in flavor, and you can always ask to adjust the sweetness level. I wish they didn't take off the Nuoc Nam flavor crack fried wings off their menu. Now they only have sweet & spicy or soy garlic. read more
