I was referred to Dr. Yuan by another optometrist after years of struggling with what I thought was just "bad vision." For most of my life, I was told I had astigmatism and that my eyesight would get worse every year -- something I accepted far too early. No matter how many times I updated my glasses (from places like Walmart or Costco), I could never really see. I always felt like I was looking through a fog, living life with squinted eyes. Reading was hard, driving seemed impossible, and I just thought clear vision wasn't in the cards for me. That all changed when I was finally diagnosed with keratoconus -- a condition I'd unknowingly had for years. From the first phone call, the staff was professional and friendly, and were able to offer me an appointment within a couple of days to have an exam for an issue I was having. The doctor was very friendly, and extremely thorough, and got to the bottom of the problem that I've been having for a while now. The only thing that this place has going against it is the thoroughness of the doctor causes a little more waiting. But I'd gladly wait my turn, even a little longer, to get the kind of one on one care I (and obviously others) received here. The staff greeted me, helped me with my paperwork, and then I played the waiting game. Was taken back for some initial testing and back to the waiting room. I had cell reception in the office so I played Candy Crush and messed around on Facebook. My appointment was for noon and I was seen by 12:45. Actually not too bad. And when I expressed my concern about running late to another appointment Dr. Yuan made sure I was on my way out the door by 1:15, which was when I said I needed to leave. The exam went beautifully. I came in for information about contact lense fittings and ask for help with the headaches and a sandy feeling in my eyes I've had for years. I've asked more than one doctor about it, I've been prescribed allergy meds and given new glasses, nothing worked, but I thought "One more couldn't hurt." I finally feel like someone listened. Not only did she say my glasses are way too strong! But that I have dry eyes and quite possibly rough eyelids from it causing the sandy feeling. Hallelujah! Someone listened and had answers! She said the allergy meds are actually drying out my eyes. Gave me an rx for eye drops and a coupon for a different type. I'll be taking the drops for 7-10 days and coming back for my contact fitting. I'm very much looking forward to my next appointment. read more

Tried this new eye doctor because we moved to the area. 3/4 the way through the exam she stopped me and had me sit in front of her computer and said that I need reading glasses instead after quick couple test. Had no trouble reading small letters books computer screens etc. wasn't listening to what I said I was having a problem with which was seeing things from a far. She tried to tell me my eyes were dirty and then rinse them out so she could sell me $22 eyedrops. Then told me my eyes were tired because I had been using my as needed prescription glasses too much which I told her I had lost about about 4 months after I got them which was about 2 years ago, and haven't used them since. I canceled the rest of my family's appointments and decided to go back to my old Eye Dr. after I asked for the prescription she gave me. And after completing my exam with my old eye doctor he told me That the prescription she had given me wouldn't have done anything for me. read more

Take a hard pass. Even if you arrive on time, you'll wait almost an hour to be seen. After the eye exam, you'll get an overly wordy explanation on why you might need multiple pairs of glasses. You won't get what you want. My prescription was ultimately incorrect. That doctor tried hard to explain why they were "the best for me." They were not the best. They were wrong. I returned them to get the fix. They never were fixed; even though I was told they were. Head over to Costco and save 60% on the cost of glasses. read more

I came in today with my dad because he was experiencing a sudden increase in floaters and flashes, clear signs that there may be a retinal tear or PVD. The optometrist was very nice and welcoming but then she wasn't able to help him at all. Instead of focusing on his chief complaint, she suggested new computer glasses. Way to push products when we don't need them! I had been calling around different offices all day because I was looking for one who could take a fundus photo and who was also Mandarin speaking. My dad even got off work early so that he could make it to his appointment. The optometrist didn't want to dilate him for BIO exam because she complained of a neck strain. She didn't even put him behind the slit lamp! There was no ocular health exam at all! She should have told us this when I made the appointment with the chief complaint of flashes and floaters. It was a waste of time and we could have used that time to go to a different optometrist who could take care of our needs. When we go to a different optometrist tomorrow and something serious is found, this optometrist can be in serious trouble... read more

I would like to preface this review by saying that my vision is problematic to say the least. I have undergone several surgeries that resulted in a significant loss of vision in my left eye. I have seen several optometrists throughout the last couple years and for the most part have accepted the fact that I would need to wear coke bottle glasses in order to achieve substandard level of vision. When I say coke bottle glasses, that is exactly what I mean. With 20/200 vision corrected, my level of self confidence had dropped dramatically. Rainbow Optometry is located near my home and work and in all honesty, I love rainbows so I decided to schedule an appointment and keep my fingers crossed. Dr. Jessica Yuan is hands down the most professional, talented, and caring optometrist I have ever received treatment from. After she obtained my lengthy medical history and listened to my vision woes, she spent time examining my eyes, testing my vision, and thoroughly explaining my all of options. Dr. Yuan has a gift of being an excellent listener and was receptive to all of my questions and concerns. I felt like she genuinely wanted me to see at my fullest capacity without compromising my self confidence. Dr. Yuan was able to find my exact prescription and I am a proud contact lens wearer today. I am seeing more clearly and with better focusing ability then I have since undergoing surgery. I attribute this to extensive time that Dr. Yuan spent understanding my unique condition and trying various solutions until we found one that worked perfectly. It is wonderful when you find a doctor who refuses to give up you as a patient. Very disappointed!!! I went to this place back in 2009, and wondered why I didn't go back.... Now I know why. I had a very through exam, but the whole time I felt I was being sold a used car. The Dr kept up selling me, telling me that I needed 3 pairs of glasses, one of which was prescription sunglasses. She also said I needed prescription eye drops. Whatever, I just went in to update my prescription. When they finished my exam they took me into the waiting room and tried to sell me two pair of glasses and sunglasses for $1300, and that was using my frames that I brought in and my insurance. Wasted my free exam from my insurance on this place! Do not recommend. read more

Warning!! I brought my daughter to this place for 3 years the dr had her prescription at a high +4.00. She failed the eye test at school and when I go down to see why they tell me its because she needs some special $500 lenses...really! So I ask for a referral to an opthamologist and it takes 15 minutes of me arguing with her before she agrees. We get in at the childrens eye institute and find out her prescription should be a +2.25 the optometrist was correcting her for lazy eye when her eyes are completely straight. Imho this place is out to get your money and they are dangerously diagnosing wrong i know someone else who took her kids there and after my experience she went to a different optometrist and both her kids had wrong prescriptions too!!! I do not recommend this place. they WILL SCAM you. I came here multiple times to get my eyeglasses. First, they strongly and repeatedly suggested me to get the "progressive" due to my eye condition that the doctor diagnosed me with and that glasses will cost me $500..... I took their "professional" advice. They called me after 2 weeks to get my glasses pickup. I went feeling excited about a new glasses and to see what's this "highly recommended progressive" glasses is all about..... i came in, i signed in and waited for half an hour( they were only 1 pt in the office),.... so finally the stuff came to talk to me and have me try the glasses first. as soon as I tried the glasses on, I knew it wasn't for me. it was still blurry as f'' and everything wasn't right but the staffs and the doctor INSISTED me to get use to it for 1 week ... this went on for 3 visits, they fix the glasses and still they cannot get my right prescription ...... SO I went back to my old eye doc about an hour away and I told them the whole story..... they doctor in rainbow opt MISSED DIAGNOSED my eye condition and I DIDN'T EVEN NEED PROGRESSIVE glasses..... This is my second time here, I brought my son in for his yearly eye check up. They do great with him he's only 6 and has trouble focusing but they were so understanding! Dr. Yuan and her staff are terrific! I've worn medically necessary contact lenses for years for keratoconus, and the rigid gas permeable lenses that my previous optometrist had prescribed had been getting increasingly uncomfortable and less effective in correcting my vision. I switched to Rainbow Optometry and Dr. Yuan prescribed scleral lenses for me which have made a world of difference. Dr. Yuan is a real perfectionist on getting the prescription right, and my vision is now corrected to 20-20, and the lenses are so comfortable, I've not even aware that they're in. Learning to insert scleral lenses takes some practice, and Dr. Yuan's assistants are very patient and helpful. I strongly recommend Rainbow Optometry. read more

Dr. Yuan is TERRIFIC! She gave me the best, most thorough eye exam I have ever had. The reason I'm knocking one star off is because of my experience buying glasses here, which I'm going to go to the trouble of explaining so you have my experience as a reference point. First of all, the glasses are more expensive than you'd pay at, say, Lens Crafters. Second, the "sell" was a little hard. This is obviously where they make their money. Third, because of a "promotional deal," I ended up buying two pairs -- a regular pair of progressives and a pair of computer/reading glasses. Each set of lenses came with a one year replacement clause (a 2-year deal). In. other words, if the lenses got scratched within the first year, they would be replaced free. Same with the second year. I wasn't sure I needed the computer/reading glasses, so I made sure to ask if I could exchange them for a duplicate pair of regular progressives if I was unhappy and was told yes. The problems began when the transition lenses I got for both pairs were not dark enough. They offered to replace them with darker transitions, which was great. BUT, they didn't tell me that counted as one of my annual exchanges. In the end, I didn't like the computer/reading glasses and asked to exchange them. But, because I had already (unknowingly) used up my first annual lens replacements, they wanted to charge me a couple of hundred dollars for the lens switch from computer/reading to regular. Finally, after some arguing and threats, they agreed to do it for free. So, in the end, it all worked out. But it was more trouble than it should have been. Still, Dr. Yuan and her staff are terrific and both very professional and extremely nice. Just be prepared for a sell job and make sure they explain EVERYTHING to you as you go. My problems could have been avoided if they'd been a little clearer explaining how things were going to work. read more
