An excellent choice of practice and doctor to entrust your care to. We had seen him over 10 years ago for an odd eye injury involving a Segway crash, caused an eye injury. When reintroduced recently, he and his staff remembered us and the circumstances. That is amazing. Their new office is an example of perfection, professionalism, calm and cleanliness. The office staff presents a great front facing representation of the office. Some practices have aloof, unsmiling receptionists and they do not realize how that behavior sets a sharp and unwelcoming tone for the whole encounter. Not so here. They are gracious, welcoming and put us at ease. Great start. Dr. Shomer is more knowledgeable than most. He not only did medical school, an internship and then a difficult to earn ophthalmology residency. What puts him ahead of others is his added PhD credential. That means that he has been involved in research as well as clinical work. He knows how to examine a patient and diagnose and treat eye conditions but also the science behind it. I mention that because my husband, his patient, has a complicated problem that is not a common finding. It requires additional testing and reflection. Some providers would start a shotgun treatment, throwing everything at it at once, hoping something, anything would work. Instead, he developed a plan of approach to define the specific problem and develop a treatment. We appreciate the care, the wisdom and professionalism of that approach. I'm so glad I found Dr Shomer at Eye MDs of Upland. I had cataracts in both eyes and my left eye was so bad I had to do something sooner rather than later. I went online and did some research on ophthalmologists in the area. I looked at many and read all the reviews and everything pointed to Dr Shomer. I wasn't concerned about the surgery because I knew I found the right Doctor. I had the pre-op visit and a time was set to do the left eye. Eye drops are prescribed for before and after surgery. Everything went fine with no pain or discomfort. About 10 days later surgery was performed on the right eye. Now my eyes matched. Everything was clearer and sharper just some light sensitivity for about 4-5 days. The blurriness was gone and its like my eyes were like they were 45 years ago. I will still need glasses for driving and seeing long distance's but that's fine and I knew that. The doctor does offer different options on types of lenses etc. I just got the basic ones and I'm happy with that. My new glasses will be ready in a few days and that will complete my vision restoration. Its been about 35 days so far and I have forgotten about that surgery. Like I said it went fine and nothing to be afraid of, just find an experienced Doctor and Marc Shomer is the best around. Yes all the reviews were right. I developed a stye on my eye in September 2024, the stye never went away and ended up turning into a cyst on the inside of my eye lid. I came to see Dr. Shomer as I was told I might need to get my cyst drained or removed. I got there the girls in the first were so nice, the nurses were so good and Dr.Shomer was the best. he heard my concerns told me about the procedure he's able to do to drain the pus from the cyst and within an hour I was out, pus drained from the cyst. I was given the medications and steroid for my eye! I just appreciate Dr.Shomer listening and being so quick to act on this! I could not be happier with the outcome of my cataract surgeries. I choose to get the upgraded lenses that is for distance, computer, and reading. Prior to getting cataracts I always wore contacts for distance. I would have to wear readers for computer work and reading. Once I started getting the cataracts, everything was so blurry that the contacts and readers were no longer working. I now have 20/20 vision. Things look so bright and sharp. My Mother in law was over and had to use my readers, I told her to keep them because I no longer needed them. My wife and I had eye exams 8 months ago from the clinic we have used for years. However, our ophthalmologist retired and we were seen by one of the others in the practice. My wife was previously diagnosed with mild cataracts and it was a follow up for her but my first visit with the new doctor. She was told to follow up again in six months and I was diagnosed with what I thought were mild cataracts. When I was checking out, I was asked when I wanted to schedule my cataract surgery. I hadn't talked surgery with the doctor, I was seeing well and had no visual impairment from the cataracts at that point. Based on great Yelp reviews, we recently saw Dr. Shomer for the first time for second opinions on the cataracts and eye exams. He performed our exams and confirmed we both had mild cataracts but no other problems were found, our eyes are healthy, come back in a year for a follow up exam. What most impressed me about Dr. Shomer was when I told him the other doctor wanted to schedule surgery for my cataracts, he said "The doctor doesn't tell you when to have the surgery, you tell the doctor when you want to have surgery based on how they are affecting your vision!" That's exactly the advise my wife was given years ago about knee replacements. Her Ortho doctor said "You'll know when it's time to have the replacement!" We both really trust Dr. Shomer based on his professionalism and honesty in talking with us about the cataracts. He is our new "go to" ophthalmologist! Dr. Marc Shomer provided excellent care and skilled surgery as I navigated my need for cataract surgery. He was thoughtful, caring and took whatever time I needed to make a decision. After Dr. Shomer provided excellent information and answered my questions, I opted for laser surgery and lens replacement. I felt well prepared and followed his carefully prepared and detailed pre-surgery instructions. The surgeries on each eye performed at Mid Valley Surgery Center. I knew what to what to expect and the staff there were kind, professional and efficient. Immediately before the surgery, Dr. Shomer again explained what he was doing and what I could expect which reassured me and eased my nervousness. Post surgery instructions were also detailed and clear. I had surgery on both eyes (at two different times) and after the patches were removed, I was shocked at how good my vision was. In early 2021, my wife was having really big troubles with her vision that seemed to be related to her prescription but a change did not help, we were referred to Dr. Shomer by our doctor and we could not have been more blessed!! Dr Shomer was awesome in figuring out her actual issue and performed the cataract surgery early this year with great results. But most importantly to me was Dr Shomer's, his nurse's and his office staff's care within the office. My wife has very significant PTSD issues so that being in an office waiting room is difficult and having someone that close to examine her is extremely difficult for her. So the doctor and the staff would have her wait in the car until a room was available so that she could walk right in, Dr Shomer and his nurses would constantly talk to her about what they were doing during examinations, talk to her before coming up behind, etc. and that was a ton off of her mind. When it came to the surgery, Dr Shomer literally laid out the room for her, where people would be and when they would be around her so she could always be prepared. He also talked the surgery center's staff ahead of time and got them on the same page. It was as awesome as it could possibly be. And for that (for ALL that) I am forever grateful to Dr Shomer AND we would highly recommend Dr Shomer for you & your family. Have my life back after cataract surgery! I was ready to give up driving, reading books, and crafting due to poor eyesight. Glasses no longer made a difference. Dr. Shomer recommended cataract surgery. I feel the success of surgery came from following the pre and post instructions given when surgery was scheduled at his office. For example; things to avoid, restrictions, and use of prescribed medications. To assist me on taking the prescribed medications accurately as well as my glaucoma drops. I took a blank calendar page and wrote the name of each eye drop required for the day. Then cross off the name as the drops were administrated. I found this to be beneficial both before and after for my prescribed medications. Have to admit I was not too hopeful of the outcome since I also have glaucoma. The next day after surgery the eye patch was removed in Dr. Shomer's office. I was shocked that I could read some of the eye chart and this was with my worst eye. So I went ahead and had cataract surgery on my other eye with even better results. I was in desperate need for help after I had developed an eye infection. I went to two different doctors prior to finding Dr. Shomer. The other 2 doctors prescribed me medicine that was not helping whatsoever and I was in an extreme amount of discomfort and pain. I called Dr. Shomers office after 4-5 days on other eye drop medication, begging for them to see me. I was a brand new patient and called on a Thursday late afternoon, hoping they would take me since it was Labor Day weekend and I knew I couldn't last a long weekend of pain. If you are searching for a qualified Ophthalmologist to perform surgery to remove cataracts with intraocular (IOL) lens placement, STOP right here, look no further and book your appointment now with Dr. Marc Shomer. I have just completed two surgeries (right and left eye) to have cataracts removed and IOLs placed by Dr. Shomer. I would not even consider recommending anyone else other than Dr. Shomer for this surgery. Before going any further, I am compelled to mention that I am a Registered Nurse practicing for years in a hospital environment. My only point here is that I have had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of doctors in a variety of specialties. In the end, I feel confident to tell you that Dr. Shomer is clearly among the best physicians I have seen concerning both technical competence and bedside manner. If you are not aware, cataract surgery is performed on only one eye - with a two-week minimum recovery period before surgery on the other eye is considered. In my case, I was fortunate to arrange the surgery on each eye within this two-week lag between each eye. Dr. Shomer's staff was extremely helpful to arrange scheduling in advance for the numerous preop and postop appointments with his office as well as the surgery center. There was a lot of information to absorb and comprehend in order to reach decisions of the type of IOL lenses to be placed and optional technical equipment to be used during the surgery. Dr. Shomer provided very clear documentation to explain these options. But perhaps most important is his superior bedside manner with a calm and humble ability to clearly answer any questions we had. For a relatively quick surgery, there is a LOT involved to reach the decisions and make arrangements. These surgeries are performed with sedation which left me barely conscious and aware of what is happening during the procedure - this is intentional by the way, as the physician needs to have the patient able to respond to commands during the surgery. The point here, is that I was aware of Dr. Shomer's caring bedside manner during the surgery. He was calm and confident - as a result I was the same. At the preop appointments, he took time to answer all questions. At the postop appointments he was VERY thorough to examine my eyes and ask questions to determine if everything was 'ok'. So if you are considering cataract surgery - go to Dr. Shomer, nobody else. And do it as soon as you can. The results are staggering, nothing short of miraculous. I simply can't explain to you the before/after difference in crisp clarity of vision, brilliance of the light, and amazing variety of colors that I did not realize before the surgeries.
