Cool place to grab a burger or brunch on wknds. They definitely have THE BEST yam fries (yam chips that is)...soooo tasty! Understaffed and those that are there cannot handle volume and are not properly trained and immature. Long wait for service, flat beer, nachos looked like an autopsy and had to send cold food back. A friend was selling a gift certificate as part of a fund-raiser. I paid $45 for a $75 gift certificate. My fiancee and I decided to have a dinner date night out. We ordered a pitcher of shipwrecked - 5 ounces? It tasted like Koolaid and I doubt there was even an ounce in there. My fiancee ordered the tuna tacos - the tuna was awful. I ordered the cheeseburger poutine - that was actually pretty good. Overpriced, weak drinks and why is the walk-in fridge in the woman's washroom? I am never going back. I don't know what has changed here but my recents visits here have been horrible. I ordered a fish burger and they forgot to add the key ingredient which was a pineapple slice. When I told the waitress about it she came back with a slice of pineapple. I am not a chef and I was not planning on preparing my own food. They should have taken it back to the kitchen and the trained chef should have fixed the situation. I put the pineapple in myself and made a very unorganized burger. My meal ended up being messy and not very good. When I spoke to the manager about this he offered me a gift card...... for $5. My meal cost $20+. I have been to this place so many times in the past and I wrote a 5 star review about it. I have brought in significant business for this restaurant. I have introduced so many friends to Raglans and brought tons of out of town friends here as well. I was really surprised by this horrible customer experience but I concluded that it was a one off and they are probably still awesome. I went to their food truck at the Lonsdale Quay Farm Market and got a burrito. The meat was overcooked and the beans were undercooked. This place has changed and I am no longer a fan. Raglan's Bistro is a relaxed hangout with a surfer sensibility at the bottom of Lonsdale Street in North Vancouver. It's named for the village of Raglan in New Zealand, a well known surf spot. I wanted to write a sonnet to their Republican Burger but the English language is not adequately equipped to describe the confluence of taste, texture, beauty and art that is Raglan's Bistro's signature delicacy. Trying to describe the emotion and flavour would be like trying to describe the colour blue without making a comparison to the sky or the eyes of a newborn. Instead, I will give you a simple description and my undying endorsement. The Republican is a hamburger that has no equal. A tender and fresh ciabatta bun cradles a succulent and savoury hand made beef patty topped with Cambozola cheese, thick juicy bacon, crispy shredded onion, sauteed mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, and garlic mayo. The light "blue" flavour of the Cambozola cheese is perfectly matched with the garlic mayo. The crispy shredded onion and the soft ciabatta create a texture that will make your mouth yearn. The Republican comes with fresh cut fries or for an extra charge, yummy sweet yam fries. Oh yeah, one more thing...it's really, really big! I bought a few rounds of shots for a large party, was about $300.00 worth of booze, so the waitress cut me off as I hadn't eaten. I'd had one shot and one beer and so I asked if I could order some food. Waitress then just said "yes" and stood there staring at me, I had not seen or even been offered a menu. I asked if I could see a menu and she went and got one and threw it down on the table. I would have left but it was a friends birthday party. Headed here with a couple (of friends) last Saturday and what a quirky, fun surprise! I'm sure this little place does a lot of business in light of their proximity to Burgoo and Anatoli's. We had indeed been intending to head to one of those places but what with the wait times and pricer options we decided to head the way of the burger shack instead. We were greeted by our friendly server immediately upon entering and offered a spot at the bar. Within minutes a booth had come available and we were shuttled over. My blackberry mojito was deliciousness personified, I have to say! I ordered the burger with guac, mushrooms and sharp cheddar along with fries. So delicious my tummy is grumbling at the memory! Too big to finish in fact. My dinner companions munched on the massive helping of nachos they ordered as well as quasadilla's. The quas' only received so-so ratings but the nachos seemed to compensate. Loved the funky decor as well. Bright blue walls add a sort of tiki feel and random bikes placed in the rafters make for lots of visual appeal. I'll definitely head back to Raglans, that's a for sure! read more

I enjoyed Raglans! With a surfer/reggae thing going on, It's one of the few places in North Van with a fun and/or themed decor. I had a Burrito which was NOT skimping on the filling (hurrah!) and my mister had the biggest, most badass poutine I've seen on the North shore. And that man loves poutine! While I want to believe the food is great, my experience was just below average. I still think this place can be great based on other reviews and the vibe there, however. I ordered the 'Double Cheeseburger in Paradise' and it was a pretty poor mess. Bun to Burger ratio was wayyy off, with the bun being much smaller than the massive patties. Just couldn't support the weight. I don't mind a greasy burger, but felt like extra grease made the buns so soggy by the time the burger got to me. Burger basket was small so it was hard to even get a good grip on the thing as it was falling apart. Worse part was that I imagined the double cheeseburger would have nicely melted cheese on each patty. But what I got were two cold hard slices placed in the middle, which just didn't work. I'm open to trying other burgers, since they're supposed to be a favourite. Just not this one. read more

Although I am tempted to put that down to Raglans being a regular sit-down restaurant as opposed to Red Burrito's more fast-food, that rationale does not explain the great burritos I get at Qdoba or even Chipotle. Service was fast and efficient. The beer list was modest but they had a few from local breweries, which always gets a place higher marks in my book. I was with several people and they all seemed to enjoy their meals. The burger was especially memorable for being huge, with the diner giving it a good review. I've dined at Raglans a number of times now. Usually its with a group of friends or just me and my wife. As a surf enthusiast, I really love the surf theme and the videos. Kind of harkens back to a 60's-70's feel with big cocktails with colourful umbrellas and a really laid back motif. My favorite dish is the Republican burger. Big generous portion with an equally generous serving of fries. Wife loves the poutine (Monster serving) The only drawback is the limited seating. It's small and, really, these guys have enough of a following that they should have a larger place. However, its Lolo and, I'm sure that that's part of the attraction. Great 'go to" spot for a casual burger and beer with buds, wife, girlfriend (make sure they're not together at the same time - haha) or small group of friends. read more

Raglan's is a spot that reminded me a lot of some of my favourite places in California. It's a tiki joint where ordering fruity drinks is sort of expected; they have tropical bevvies in sizes from normal to fishbowl. Which of course I liked! They reminded us of koala springs in flavour... We had the cajun chicken sandwich and the bacon poutine. The sandwich was hefty and tasty, but the poutine was the better choice. I've been to Raglan's twice - once for breakfast, once for dinner. Both times were "meh". The atmosphere is really neat, which is why I really wanted to like this place. Service is typical, nothing over-the-top. The menu is extensive, and everything sounds delicious. Unfortunately, nothing I've tried lives up to how it's described on the menu. When I was there for dinner, I had some kind of sandwich. It was so unremarkable, I can't even remember what was in it. After hearing about their generous selection of eggs benedict (or, "ragga muffins", as they call it), we went in to try breakfast. We shared the "Coaster" ragga muffin with salmon lox and capers (a breakfast favourite of mine), and the "smokin' ham", which is the closest they have to traditional eggs benny. We were disappointed by both :( Neither one had much flavour, oddly enough. The hollandaise was quite bland, and there wasn't much of it. Independently, we both added salt to the "smokin' ham" due to lack of flavour. This is the first time I've EVER had to add salt to eggs benedict. All that said, the panfries were fantastic, a home run! Nothing seemed to be terribly clean - salt shaker was sticky, and there was so much "old salt" inside it was starting to clump up. Table was a little dirty and sticky, etc. Oh, and also, I suggest they label their hot sauce bottles! As of now, the hot sauce is kept in a type of red squirt bottle that is commonly used for ketchup. I went straight for the red bottle, and doused my panfries with it, not seeing the actual Heinz ketchup bottle hidden in the basket on the table. Good thing I like hot sauce anyway.... Overall, two mediocre experiences means I won't be back. Too bad, since their menu *sounds* amazing, and the vibe is awesome. read more

I walked in and after waiting over 5 minutes to place our orders (the place was empty) I was told I wouldn't be served because of who I was with. I don't think this is fair at all. I have such a soft spot for this place. I love the atmosphere, the chill, friendly service, the totally unpretentious menu and all it's choices, the generous plates and drinks, and the accessible prices. It truly does feel like a beach shack and has this unchanging, 1990s, west-coast feel in the best way possible (aka in a way that is neither try-hard, or passé.) Raglans is a great place to go with friends, for a relaxed date (share one of those gi-nourmous margaritas) or with your family. They offer decent burgers, burritos, lots of poutine options and awesome fish tacos. They are vegetarian and vegan friendly and have a more-than acceptable beer list and a good patio. They are definitely not upscale, gourmet, or inventive, but this is in and of itself rather inventive. read more

I came here with 5 friends for brunch on a Saturday. It was fairly full when we arrived, so we had to squish into one booth. Luckily a table opened up outside on the patio. The waitress was very nice and offered to turn on the outdoor heater. Although it was a rare day with windstorms and toppling trees, it was quite comfortable sitting outside (much quieter than inside). Their menu has a selection of brunch items based on sides of hash browns or pan fries. I ordered a Hippie Hash - hashbrowns, two poached eggs, sharp cheese, roasted mushrooms, tomato, spinach, pepper and carmalized onion. Came here with my bf for breakfast. It looked like a miniature version of the Shameful Tiki Room on Main Street! My bf had their jerk spice chicken burger with their home fries potatoes which was apparently good but it was kinda expensive. I, on the other hand, had their basic breakfast which consisted of 2 poached eggs, home fries potatoes, choice of meat (bacon, sausage or ham) and toast. Their home fries potatoes were so delicious because they were so crispy on the outside and so fluffy on the inside even the really crispy ones were! Also, they added this red seasoning on top which made it very addicting. I also really like how they poached my eggs because they were shaped like mini half domes which were so cute and they weren't that wet so they tasted a lot better than regular poached eggs. Their bacon wasn't shaped like their typically slices of bacon. They were more circular in shape. I didn't like their bacon because it wasn't crispy (I'm thinking the way they cut effected their texture) and it was way too salty. Overall, my bf enjoyed his burger and we both really liked their home fries. I would definitely come back to try their drinks because they serve crazy alcohols! read more

Funky and great. I was all ready to dis the place because it's a bit expensive for what you get, but then the food came and it's lovely. Deliciously tangy miso gravy on the veggie Poutine, and the sprinkle of smoked paprika on top is inspired. The falafel patty was a little greasy, a little soft in the middle -- and a lot delicious. I've been to Raglans few times and food is awesome despite of price, but this last time was kind of disappointing. My dish had 2 poached eggs that instead of soft were undercooked in a way that you could see albumen runny like the yolk. The hollandaise sauce was kinda cold in which considering my dish also came with salsa and guacamole, it made my dish even colder and not that tasty. The black beans were not even warm either. Well, not even close of the other dishes I had on earlier visits to Raglans. My husband dish was also out of standards. His dish came with saltyyyy pulled pork, sausage and ham, which I don't know why, as those processed meat come already salted. This had been my 3rd pr 4th time at Raglans but don't know id would be a 5th. The only nice thing about this last visit and earlier ones was the service! Great one!! The girls that served was are really nice and care about if you're having a good time eating there. read more

5-Stars is only based off the beer pints, as that is all I had while on the patio, and they are HUGE. Great little place with good service. They don't look down their nose if you just want to relax on the patio and enjoy a pint without ordering food. That's a big PLUS in my books. This place sucks. Don't bother wasting your money. Felt like I wasted a day's worth of wages eating here. Food was meh; got a burger with fries and my boyfriend got the poutine, most of the fries were dried up little crisps that we didn't eat. The service, however, is the cause for the 1 star review. Took forever for the waitress to come back, sat with empty drinks for a while before she even checked in. Someone else eventually brought us our food, didn't give us cutlery, napkins, ketchup, etc. I ended up grabbing it myself from a bucket we found nearby. Waitress never asked if the food was okay or checked in with us for more drinks until we were halfway done our food. Still took a while for our next drinks. Drinks were terribly disappointing. First we had a margarita, no straws and impossible to drink out of glasses. Tasted like sadness and limes. Next, I had a Shipwrecked cocktail. Ordered the 3 oz size, expecting a tall glass (which this amount of alcohol usually comes in), but the glass was the size of my head! And I'm not exaggerating!! It wouldn't be a problem except it was still only 3 shots (vodka and peach schnapps together) so it just tasted like I was drinking a gallon of juice. No thank you! Finished as much of that monstrosity as I cared to and were still waiting for the bill. Finally flagged down our waitress and she sent someone else to the table. Raglans has been our go-to place for dinner for just over 7 years now. And now it is the go-to place for brunch on the weekends - delicious! I only feel sad that I waited so long to go for brunch. The food is always good and the rotating selection of beers is a nice little treat.
